Code of Honor is the first book in the Honor and Danger Team series by Alexa Verde. The story starts off with a bang with suspense, romance, and heart-felt dialogue. I enjoyed the sweet romance, banter, and tenderness that Nieve Valley has with retired military hero Remington Franco. The story weaves a mystery that truly had me guessing up until the end. I may have needed chocolate while reading the story.

The author does a great job bringing in details that made this a great story, and set up the premise for the other stories in the series. I recommend Code of Honor and cannot wait for the other books in the series.

First off, I love that Nieve is full figured and loves to eat chocolate. This book packs a lot for a novella. There is plenty of drama to keep you engaged. I just wish there was more to the backstory along with more details to really round it all out. I was surprised by a few twists I did not see coming. The ending does set it up for the series to continue with a bit of a cliffhanger.

Wow. For a short book, it covered a lot of deep topics and suspense. The plot twists kept the pages turning and I read this book in one afternoon. I can’t believe the characters have gone through everything they’ve been through in their past and current lives and yet they still keep on going. The main theme of this book is the choices we make determine our paths we take through life and sometimes the good choice is the hardest to make. The way Nieve and Remi open up to each other about their pasts builds their relationship quickly. Their romance is very sweet and sprinkled through the book. This is the first book in a new series from Alexa and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Warning, this book will make you crave chocolate! Along with all the delicious treats mentioned in this fast-paced novella, there’s a whole lot of action, romance, faith, & suspense! Code of Honor by Alexa Verde begins with intensity that continues throughout. It definitely pulled me in & kept me eagerly turning the pages.

Programmer Nieve Valle loves chocolates, treats, & ice cream more than just about anything. But, to keep an eye on her best friend Hannah, she’s willing to endure workouts at the gym. When a stranger warns them of a bomb under her car, Nieve has to figure out who would want to harm her & her best friend. The handsome, mysterious stranger seems suspect until he keeps turning up in time to save her. As they work together to discover who the culprit is, these reluctant to fall allies may just get a second chance at love.

Ex-military hero Remington “Remi” Franco made a promise to Hannah’s dead husband to keep an eye on her. He’s also bent on finding out who killed his fiancée. But, when he meets Hannah’s best friend Nieve, he suddenly has a new goal, to get to know her better, & protect Nieve & her friend at all costs.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story! Nieve is a strong, resilient character who survived an abusive relationship & isn’t looking for love. The charming Remi has a way of getting under her skin & I loved the witty banter between them. Their relationship builds as they both share past sorrows & work together to help Hannah. I enjoyed the sweet faith thread woven throughout & how each learned to love again.

The suspense was off the charts! I enjoyed the mystery & was surprised by the villain. I was on pins & needles trying to decipher the clues right along with Remi & Nieve.

Code of Honor is a great introduction to the Honor & Danger Team series. This is my first book by this author & I look forward to reading more. I received an advanced copy from the author but also purchased through Kindle Unlimited. All opinions are completely my own & voluntarily provided.

Wow this story starts out with an almost big bang as someone has put a bomb under a car. Thankfully a stranger they saw in the gym discovered it before these two ladies got in the car. This is the start of a new series and out of that experience a new detective agency to take on hopeless cases will be opened. That's how the Honor and Danger Team was born.

Nieve Valle has been trying to be around her best friend Hannah Hughes, since Ward her husband's unexpected death. Hannah was devastated and doesn't believe he is really dead. Nieve is a computer programmer who hates to exercise but loves to eat especially sweets. Now she will have to try to discover who is trying to kill her friend. She is not very trusting since her former boyfriend became abusive. Getting rescued out of that situation by her Hannah and Ward saved her life. She feels she owes Hannah and she will do whatever she can to protect her. She will need the help of the former military hero, Remington Franco but trusting him may not be easy.

Remington Franco was a friend of Ward's and he had promised to watch after Hannah. Remi has wounds from his past at the death of his fiancee. He is determined to get revenge on the people who murdered her. Remi is drawn to Nieve and really enjoys working with her to protect Hannah as they try to discover who is behind the many threats on her life. Remi never expected that the sweetness of Nieve would work on his hardened heart. Can he take her advice to no longer seek revenge?

This is a wonderful start to this new series and I am looking forward to reading what's coming next.

For a novella, I was genuinely impressed by how much Alexa managed to fit into under 100 pages! Overall, it was a captivating read, blending suspense, mystery, romance, and even exploring backstory, forgiveness, and character growth.

In the story, Nieve's best friend, Hannah, becomes the target of attacks. They meet Remi, who at first Nieve suspects might be involved, but it turns out he’s there to protect them. He plans to stay until he figures out who’s behind the attacks and ensures their safety. As Remi spends more time with Nieve, they grow closer, but Nieve is still healing from a past abusive relationship and isn’t ready to trust. With the danger to Hannah and Nieve escalating and their feelings for each other deepening, this book kept me turning the pages to see what would happen next, and I didn't see it coming!

For me, this book was a solid 4 out of 5. My only critique is that I wasn't a huge fan of how Nieve's struggles with her weight were handled in the story. However, it wasn't significant enough to stop me from enjoying the book. Honestly, I share her love of sweets, maybe even more than she does! So, I might be a bit more sensitive to how it was portrayed, but it definitely wasn’t a dealbreaker for me.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book and can’t wait to see what comes next in the series!
The teaser at the end for the next book in the series really got me excited to read Coach’s story!

This book romance, thrilling suspense and intrigue are expertly interwoven in this book. The fascinating and complex characters effortlessly captured my interest and pulled me into their story. Nieve and Remington (Remi) meet as both are doing their best to look after and protect her best friend Hannah, a recent widow. With the source of the threat unknown, they are wary about each other. Both have guards up around their hearts and love is certainly not on their radar. An abusive ex has caused Nieve’s distrust of men, though there is just something about Remi that makes Nieve feel safe. Remi is fulfilling a promise to his late friend, Hannah’s husband by making sure that she is cared for and safe. He never expected to have to thwart several attempts on her life or deal with her very suspicious, feisty and protective best friend, Nieve. After seeing this situation through, Remi plans to return to searching for and apprehending the person(s) responsible for his fiancée’s death several years ago. He won’t rest until he has done so. He doesn’t see loving anyone else as part of his future.

As they work together to find the source of the threats, the unexpected attraction between Nieve and Remi leads to deeper feelings that both try to deny until they can’t any longer. The pain of the past, fears, doubts and chaotic emotions all come into play, as does his need to find his late fiancée’s killers. Thankfully they have their faith to rely on and guide them. Their story is riveting, twisty and well worth reading.

If so then this is the story for you. Alexa Verde packs a punch with this story and delivers an ending you didn’t see coming. The story moves super fast, but it works if that makes sense. Remi is a swoony hero 😍

But what really made this story for me was Nieve’s character. She’s basically me. Always been chunky, nerdy, and didn’t have boys looking her way. Now let me also say that I am married to a wonderful man so I’m blessed to have my happy ending. But before my husband came on the scene I didn’t have men even glance in my direction unless it was to laugh. And the way Nieve looks at chocolate? Yep I can totally relate. There’s not a lot of plus size heroines in stories and so whenever I read about one I’m internally jumping for joy. I get Nieve and her inability to run. Her love for sweets. And her need to feel like she’s worth being loved.

To all you single girls out there who may be struggling like Nieve or myself (well younger me) - there is a Remi out there who will look at you like you are the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen. Because you are. Size doesn’t make you beautiful. Your heart does.

Sorry to make this review into a Ted talk 😝 but I just think it’s important for girls to hear. Wait for someone who talks to you like Remi talks to Nieve. The scenes where he just was so sweet to her were my favorites.

Author Alexa Verde's Code of Honor proved to be one of those "sit down and read it from start to finish" kind of books. There just wasn't a good place to quit until the end. I had to know what happened. Nieve Valle, loyal friend who survived an abusive relationship, will do anything to try to protect her bestie, Hannah Hughes. Remington Franco is on hand to fulfill a promise made to Hannah's late husband to protect his wife should anything happen to him. There's an instant attraction between Nieve, who avoids men because of her past relationship, and Remi, who once Hannah is safe, plans to return to his hunt to find the men who killed his fiancé several years ago. I thoroughly enjoyed Remi's flirting with Nieve. While there is a lot of action and suspense, there's also a great deal of humor provided by Nieve's inner monologue. The book has a twist that I never saw coming. The mystery of who is trying to kill Hannah is wrapped up, and there's an HEA for Nieve and Remi. I highly recommend this start to the Honor and Danger Team series to readers that like a mix of mystery, suspense, clean romance, and humor.

This was the perfect afternoon read. It was short and easy to read, which was a good thing because once I started it, I did not want to put it down. The author did a great job of providing a lot of detail in a few short pages. There was no rambling, unnecessary dialogue or scenes. I was pulled into the story from the beginning pages.

Nieve has no desire to be the center of attention. Her abusive ex has colored her view of men in general, and a relationship is the last thing on her mind. She is more interested in protecting her best friend, Hannah Hughes. Her world is about to be rocked when she meets Remington Franco also known as Remi.

Remi made a promise to his best friend to protect Hannah. He is ready, willing and able to protect her. However, he has also been on a revenge mission to find the people responsible for his fiancee's death.

This story starts out on a wild note and escalates from that point forward. All three characters are so incredibly different which makes the story even more interesting. Suspense, danger, mystery, a budding romance and a little humor make this an enjoyable read. I look forward to more books in this series.

I really enjoyed this story! Nieve is absolutely a hoot, even after all she's been through. Having been in an abusive relationship, she's pretty gun-shy about any relationship. The humor that shows up regarding her love of pastries, chocolate, etc and anything other than exercising had me cracking up quite a bit. Nieve isn't your average FMC. She's a big larger than most women in the starring role. I also love that Remington doesn't see past her size, but he sees her for her.

Remington has also dealt with trials, like his fiancée being killed and finding her. He is watching over Hannah after the apparent death of her husband, and Nieve is helping her start a business. The story starts off with a car nearly blowing up and the ladies being shot at! From there, they have to figure out who the target is, and then who is doing it!

There's quite a twist and turn in this story, actually a couple! What we learn towards the end will sink like a rock in your gut! If you're like me, you'll want to rail against a character in the story! The suspense definitely ramps up to this point.

It's a very sweet story that was easily read in a couple of days during my spare time!

Right from the start, this story absolutely grabbed my attention... and with a meet-cute like this one, how could it not!? Immediately there was a sense of danger that kept me turning the pages to find out what was going to happen... and what did happen completely took me by surprise... in the very best way possible! Family drama, difficult pasts and an unknown danger keep this one intriguing... all while mixed with a fantastic chemistry filled romance and beautiful messages of faith too. Remi and Nieve might get off to a rather interesting and unusual start, but the chemistry is certainly undeniable between them even then. I loved how his charm and banter added a bit of levity to the story too. Honestly, who could blame Nieve for falling for him, despite her abusive past? This was a fairly quick read, but one that kept me guessing right through to the end. I don't want to give anything away, but if you enjoy Christian suspense, this is definitely one you'll want to check out. I absolutely cannot wait to see what is going to happen next in the series!

I give this 4 1/2 Stars!

I want to start by saying I received an ARC of this book. It is a Christian romantic suspense book. The main characters are Remington and Nieve. Nieve’s friend Hannah is in danger. Remington shows up everytime someone tries to kill Hannah as he promised Hannah’s husband he would keep Hannah safe. Can he prove he is there to protect them? Will they trust him to help figure out who is behind everything? Both Remington and Nieve had rough pasts so my heart broke for them. Nieve was so self conscious about her weight. Can Remington prove to her she is perfect just the way she is? Can he also prove to her not all guys are the same? I loved Remington and Nieve together. They prayed in this book which I loved. I was shocked when I found out who was behind everything. I am usually shocked but never this shocked. This book had the perfect amount of romance and suspense. The epilogue in this book has me ready to read the next book which I already have to ARC of so stay tuned.

This is my first time reading a book by Alexa Verde and I thoroughly enjoyed it! It was an exciting read from the beginning and I truly didn't see the curves coming.
Remi and Nieve are beautiful characters and Hannah is a friend worth having. Remi and Nieve's story is captivating from the beginning and I love the way the author wove the threads of suspense, love, grief and hope into a beautiful picture.
Full of suspense and intrigue, this was a fascinating read with the most unlikely characters bringing the twist to the story.
The budding romance was heartwarming and with both characters complementing and helping each other overcome their past pain. Seeing Nieve blossom from an emotionally traumatized lady to a confident lady is awesome.
A good takeaway lesson from this book - choices have consequences. Thank you Alexa Verde.

Code of Honor

Nieve and Remi have an absolutely wonderful short story. There is mystery and danger with a twist you might not expect. Nieve had been the victim of an abusive relationship from which her friend Hannah had rescued her. She never wanted to take the risk of that happening again so all relationships are off the table for her. Her best friend has lost her husband and there are a lot of questions surrounding his death. When a mysterious man shows up rescuing them continually, she has an immediate attraction to him. Remi has a rough and dangerous background but he has vowed to keep his friend’s wife safe from whatever brought his demise about. He never expected to fall for her sidekick and friend. Read Nieve and Remi’s story to find out if they can solve the case before anyone else disappears.

Love Nieve and Remi's story!! Remi and Nieve meet when Remi shows up to keep an eye on Hannah as her deceased husband asked him to. Wade and Remi have been friends for years, and Remi knows he's got to do as his friend asked, if he can. Remi never planned on falling in love again, but Nieve has gotten under his skin. He's afraid he'll fail her as he did his now deceased fiance. Nieve isn't looking for love, not since her ex-boyfriend used her for his punching bag. Now, Remi is getting under skin, and she really doesn't want to say goodbye to him. Will these two be able to put their pasts behind them and look forward to a shared future? LOVE how things turn out!!

Edge of your seat & FUN

Code of Honor kept me on the edge of my seat, while being a fun-and surprising-book! No spoilers, so I’m not saying another word about WHAT…. Oops! Just not another word! I loved Nieve, well, all of the characters…(AGAIN! No spoilers!) Going back to Nieve, she is an awesome character! Now I just have to try to be patient for the next 2 books in the Honor and Danger Team.

By the way, the length of the book is perfect for a busy summer read. In fact, it’s perfect all the way around. It has enough suspense to keep you glued to the page while having light hearted fun moments so you finish smiling. And then there’s the teaser for the next book that keeps you intrigued until you get to read THAT book!

When Your Instincts tell you something, Listen

Hanna dallied in showing her love to her husband Ward, never realizing as many don't that life is short only to loose him in death possibly months later. Nieve was beaten cruelly by her ex- husband, until she realized no matter what she did or how she did anything he would attack her. A week before he died Ward ask his best friend Remi to look after his wife and her best friend Nieve. Shortly before the two meet, he sees that a bomb has been planted on Hannas car. Now the search begins to find who is trying to kill Hanna. This is one of the most attraction keeping book I've read this year. A definite five stars!

Once again, I thoroughly enjoyed another Alexa Verde book! This novella is SOOOO fun. It’s short and sweet but it’s filled with sweet romance and excellent suspense. I loved the flirtatious moments between the two main characters. Also, the plot twist at the end…WOW! Alexa immerses the reader into her stories, using relatable characters and gripping stakes. The God moments and quotes were simply heartwarming as well.

TW: The FMC is curvy (love the representation!). She personally deals with negative/shameful thoughts about her body type. Also, there are past mentions of domestic violence.

This was such a good novella! I just wish it was longer and had more of the story!

Remi and Nieve have the perfect opposites attract story! Remi, who has a dark history, and makes it his second life mission to keep Nieve and Hannah safe. Nieve, on the other hand, is way more into computers than the gym, and would rather eat chocolate than veggies (same, girl). But somehow they make it work!

And the bad guy!? Wow. I wasn’t expecting that twist!

I thought this story had a good blend of suspense and romance. I liked how the villain was not who I expected it to be and that it was a surprise. I liked how well Remington and Nieve worked together to find out who was trying to kill her friend and why. I liked how Nieve learned to trust Remington and to see that not all men are like her abusive ex. I liked how they fell in love and that they loved each other exactly as they are and didn’t need to change for each other.

Life is about choices. Sometimes with the easiest and the worst choice being not making one at all. Code of Honor is a page turning read filled with mystery, suspense and romance, relatable characters (Nieve, Remington, and Hannah) and though expected a satisfying resolution. This reader identified with Nieve’s choice of flowers – pink carnations. Yes, life is about choices and all choices have consequences. I was not expecting this novella to start with the death of our hero from the last book. Remi appears to help Hannah (our heroine from the last book) and Nieve when danger pops up. In this whirlwind novella, there is plenty of danger and questions. Who is targeting them and why. Nieve immediately trusts Remi and has a bit of an instalove thing. This was a fine story with some crazy quick changes and ideas.

Code of Honor is the first book in Alexa Verde's newest series, Honor and Danger Team. The books in this series are novellas, but action-packed with drama, suspense, mystery, intrigue, and of course, romance with an HEA. These are quick reads, but oh, so satisfying. Code of Honor introduces Remington, Nieve, and her friend, Hannah. This is Remington's and Nieve's romance and how they get to their HEA, despite the secrets in their pasts, and someone trying to kill Nieve and Hannah. This book is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon!

We'd met Hannah before, so it was kind of a shock to read that her husband is dead and she is in denial. The friend she had saved from an abusive situation, Nieve, is at her side, helping as best as she can.

Weird stuff is going on, and they both feel like they are being watched. That's when they meet Remington, an old friend of Hannah's husband.

The story that follows is quite the adventure. Well worth reading.

Wow!!! This first story is amazing of this new series.

Alexa, you did a wonderful job in creating this fantastic story of Remi and Nieve's journey to their happy ever after. They had some hurdles to overcome that it will keep you on your toes to the very in. I just love it. The storyline is fantastic and keeps you engrossed in it all the way to the end along with heartfelt and realistic characters whether they were the heroes or villains.

This was my first book by Alexa Verde. I enjoyed it for the most part, but I wasn’t able to rate it higher. The characters were unique, but I had a bit of trouble relating to them. I was able to read this in one sitting. While I enjoyed it, I won’t be continuing the series.

A fascinating story from an amazing author. Well developed characters and a storyline filled with humor, adventure, mystery, suspense and a chance of a developing romance. Really enjoyed reading Nieve’s point of view about the predicament that she was experiencing with her friend Hannah. A great read!

This was a short novella, however it was jam packed, and didn't feel short. I thoroughly enjoyed and loved Remi and Nieve's story. This was a lovely romantic suspense story with some twists and turns along the way, even some funny and lighthearted moments. They both had a lot of hurt in their pasts, thankfully they rose above it.
