Nash Rhodes I royally fucked up, and now I’m paying the price. Once, I was an adored country singer, but now the crowds have turned against me. I need to restore my image—and fast. Little did I know that a grumpy ranch owner would become the solution. What I didn’t expect was how much more she’d help me beyond that.
Dawn Taylor I inherited my parents’ ranch—their dreams and their debts. Keeping it alive is a constant struggle, and the cash I win from barrel races only stretches so far. That’s when Nash Rhodes, the famously cancelled country singer, stumbled into my world with an offer I couldn’t refuse. I need the money, and he needs a redemption arc. It sounds like a win-win, right?

⋆˚࿔ 𝐦𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 so this was a super quick and easy book to read while i was home sick today (i don't know how i missed school 😭) the whole premise was a fun idea but i didn't particularly feel a connection to the characters. overall it's a fun story, fairly fast paces, and engaging plot. not a snooze-fest 👏
nash was sweet, i just couldn't like fall for him. him and dawn both weren't really giving us anything to like their characters very much. something i did enjoy was the mental health rep. nash was depressed and i liked the way we saw that through his character, he was flawed and did things that weren't always seen in a good light esp with media pouncing on his every move previously.
dawn was the parentified eldest daughter after her parents passed away when she was 20, she takes care of her younger siblings and many others who found their home at their family ranch. she has a huge weight on her shoulders and is scared to let others in, especially someone like nash rhodes.

ᝰ.ᐟ 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐥 this was a cute story, kinda felt like a novella at the end. the epilogue was sweet and i loved the way nash found himself at her ranch. there was a theme through the story of finding your purpose and kind of found family.
thank you to the author for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review
Oxana Lau takes readers on a sweet journey of following what you really want:
Dawn Taylor is struggling, she has inherited her parent's ranch after their sudden deaths, but with the ranch comes the responsibility, and debts associated with it. She is struggling to keep the ranch afloat with the only wat she knows how to make money and that is barrel racing. Nash Rhodes was on a downward spiral and one screw up too many has led him to no longer gracing stadiums but small bars around Canada. He needs to restore his image, and fast if he is to keep a promise to his bandmate Easton. Neither Dawn or Nash could have predicted that after their first meeting they had the means to help each other and maybe rediscover who they are.
This book was exactly what I needed at the time I read it. It is a super sweet small-town book with a side of spice. I loved that Dawn is a barrel racer who is just trying to raise as much money as she can for her ranch to stay afloat and that Nash is a famous but now cancelled Canadian country music star for some of his antic while drunk. Both are looking for something to help set their lives straight or on better paths and it was just a story I felt like I could get behind. This also has the tropes of small town and slow burn, plus some spicy time outside. The tension in this book is really well done and just when you think it is going to happen something seems to get in the way.
While I loved the concept of this book and both the characters I felt like their character development was lacking, as we knew very little of what occurred before. I just wanted more depth from each of their backstory, all they had given up to get to the point they are at now. I think for Nash maybe this could have been reflected in the song lyrics but we get very few of them in the book. I just wanted more the more i reflected on this book. This is probably because i enjoyed both characters and wanted to know them more, make them more real.
Dawn's character is all strength; all she is trying to do to keep the ranch and assisted living open against all odds in commendable. She puts others first all the time, even when all she wants to do is break down. I do question how she tries to raise money by continuing to barrel race as i cannot see that as profitable plus the cost from going to rodeo to rodeo but that is not my world. I also wish there was more shown of Ranch life and the assisted living life, I felt the side characters there were just glazed over at times and they would have been an asset to highlight for what Dawn is wanting to achieve.
I loved Nash the farther into the book that I got, especially when he gets to the ranch and starts interacting with the residents there. This is what I wanted more of in the book, more of him trying to find himself.
On a completely different note, I hope that Lau has the next book feature Easton, as I feel like I want to know his story and more about him, and I hope he was not just a side character to be glazed over and left in this book.
This was a cute read, and I enjoyed it while I was reading it, I just wanted more from that there was a story and characters, as the ideas are there just not fully developed.
⭐️⭐️.75 🌶️🌶️ So grateful to have received an early copy of this book! It was a fun and fluffy read! The vibes were very wholesome and if you are a sucker for cowboy romance then I think you would enjoy this book. The only thing that was missing for me was I felt the characters story lines were a bit under developed. I wish we had more build up of Nash being the “bad boy” of country music so that we could really understand why he wanted to step away from the music scene. As a debut novel I think the author did a great job and I look forward to seeing how her writing grows as she keeps writing more 💕
I had the opportunity to read this book prior to the release date and I absolutely enjoyed reading this book! 💜 This is a small town romance, cowgirl FMC x country singer MMC. This is a slow burn but the spice was *chefs kiss 🤌🏼*🤭 I loved the FMC as i relate to her so much in so many ways. I ate this book up in a day
When I was chosen to read the ARC for 'Chasing Chords' by Oxana Lau, I couldn't contain my excitement. This was not only my first ARC read, but also a book that I instantly fell in love with. How lucky am I to have this amazing book as my first ARC experience!
Dawn and Nash are a perfect match. Their character growth and the evolution of their relationship throughout the book were a joy to witness. The slow burn, a trope I don't usually gravitate towards, was surprisingly enjoyable in this book.
I'm excited to see what Oxana has coming next in this series! <3
I had the chance to read it before it was publish. It’s a good book, of a slow burn love, sexy scenes and piece of comedy. I easily identify to the main caractere. Beautifully written, specially from a writer that english isn’t her first language.
I came across Oxana Lau on Insta while she was promoting Chasing Cords and was immediately intrigued. So when she opened up ARC positions, I jumped on the chance to read this book!
Dawn Taylor, the princess of rodeo, inherited her family’s ranch after her parents passed. Unfortunately she also inherited their debts and is struggling so stay afloat. One night after heading to a bar to celebrate her barrel race win, she dances with Nash Rhodes, cancelled country singer, trying to make his way back into the positive side of the media. When he offers a potential solution that would benefit both of them, Dawn must make the difficult decision to trust someone with her ranch, and possibly her heart.
Overall, this book was quite enjoyable. Nash is an absolute sweetheart. So kind and giving and I loved the way he interacted with the residents of the independent living centre, including Dawn’s brother. Dawn is an amazing woman, stepping up for her family and working her butt off to maintain the ranch. There were times where I struggled with her stubbornness. I get being hesitant but literally everyone was trying to help her and she kept shutting down. While this is technically a slow burn romance, and Nash and Dawn don’t come together until about the 60% mark, that moment was a bit unbelievable in terms of the instantaneous ripping off of the clothes at the only recently vacated bonfire right outside everyone’s bedrooms. Again, some people might be okay with this but I could’ve used a lot more tension and small moments building up to that one. Either way, Nash and Dawn’s relationship and character growth was great to read and I think the story overall was well written.
If you love Elsie Silver or Jessica Peterson’s cowboy romances, I think Chasing Chords is another one to add that I think a lot of people would enjoy.
Chasing Chords is the first book in the Skyline Acres series. It was a very cute, fun and fluffy read that wasn't overly complicated or dramatic, it was nice and refreshing. Oxana’s writing is absolutely beautiful, it drew me in right away, to think that this is her debut novel with the way she writes had me shocked. The storyline was very wholesome and the country/small town vibes were on point. I absolutely adored the ranch's purpose, it was such a beautiful thing to incorporate in a book, something that's so important that our society needs more of. The disability reps were well done and I'm excited to see more of those in the next installments.
The romance between Dawn & Nash is the slowest of slow burns, but it's definitely worth it in the end. They had amazing banter and scorching hot spice. I did wish we had a little more character development regarding both, more relationship growth as well, I believe it would've made the story and authenticity of their relationship shine even more. Also, more backstories on both MC’s would've definitely benefited this book. I am very hopeful we will get to see that in book 2.
Overall, this was a fun and easy romance that I thoroughly enjoyed. It's a good debut and I can only see Oxana going up from here and improving as she writes her next stories.
✨️Thank you to @oxanalau for my gifted ARC in exchange for an honest review.

💐 Received as an eArc in exchange for an honest review 💐
🎤 A cancelled country singer and a rodeo princess—against all odds they come together to save a fleeting way of life, and on the journey, discover what they really need deep down. 🐎
💕 Possibly one of the best written debut novels I have ever read. The story flows so smoothly, and there are some minor plot twists that really pull you into the book. There’s a couple of spicy scenes later in the book, and they are also really well done! The author gets her point across without constantly repeating herself, and I found that I retained a lot even though the story moved quickly. The writing painted a vivid scene of the small town and its people 🩷
✨ Nash and Dawn are such great characters—I feel like I really know them, the author did an amazing job introducing them. The same goes for all of the supporting characters—I feel like I’ve met them now! They are heart warming, full of joy, and love.
✨ Even though this is not quite my type of book I actually thoroughly enjoyed it, and I recommend this to anyone that needs a cute small town romance read!
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of Chasing Chords and I can confidently say I’ve found one of my fav reads of the year so far. It was short and sweet but it was also so so fun! I really enjoyed the characters and always love reading about small, country towns (bonus points that it’s set in Canada😉). If you enjoyed the chestnut springs series or rebel blue ranch, I highly recommend picking this one up!
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of Chasing Chords and wow. A shorter read than most of my choices but still a slow burn and worth the wait. The development between Nash and Dawn is reflective of growth and true found family. The ending was absolutely beautiful and had tears rolling down my cheeks. I wish it was longer for more character depth! Overall a fantastic small town cowboy romance.
⋆ dual pov ⋆ he falls first ⋆ striking a deal ⋆ only one couch ⋆ short and sweet ⋆ small town romance ⋆ country singer x cowgirl _________________
This was such a cute book. It was short, sweet and so easy to read. I literally ate it up and finished it in one day. Chasing Chords is a small town, country romance where we follow our FMC Dawn as she tries to continue her mothers legacy of barrel racing while also trying to keep her parents memory alive through their ranch and our MMC Nash as he struggles to get back to stardom after an incident that caused his bands career to plummet the year before. We follow through their eyes as they learn to let go, to be free. They help each other grow and we watch them slowly fall for each other’s charm.
Oh I loved both Dawn and Nash!! Their dynamic was so so so fun and I loved their banter. Nash was an absolute dream boat and like honestly where the heck is my Nash??? I’m from Alberta and we don’t got men like that anywhere??? but anyways!! I loved how hard working and resilient Dawn was. I have no idea how I would manage the workload and the hardships that were put on her shoulders. I adored the way both of them were able to open up, to let go and to be free whenever they were together. The fact that they were the only ones who could truly breakdown each other’s walls was so perfect.
The writing was perfect for this book. It was simple and easy to understand and had me hooked from the get go. I loved the found family aspect! I think that was written really well and the disability rep was also done well! I was honestly really impressed. The one thing I will say, is that I wished we had more insight to Nash’s character. I feel like we were missing just a bit of backstory to understand his character fully. Other than that I really enjoyed this book!
Overall, this book was such a fun read. I really enjoyed it. I would like to thank Oxana Lau for the ARC and would also like to say congratulations on your debut!!! I can’t wait to read more of your work in the future! 🎸🐎🩷
i was lucky enough to receive an arc of chasing chords by oxana lau, and i can confidently say i’ll be recommending it to absolutely everyone. i’m already so excited for the rest of the skyline acres series to come!!
chasing chords is the first book in the skyline acres series, and it’s everything you’d want in a cozy small town romance. it’s fun, sweet, and full of fluffy vibes—the kind of read that wraps around you like a warm blanket. definitely light and easy, nothing overly complicated, but still so beautifully written. the fact that this is a debut book had me absolutely shocked. oxana lau’s writing is smooth and engaging, with a voice that’s both comforting and quietly powerful.
nash is such a soft, sweet mmc and dawn is a strong, independent fmc who i loved instantly. their chemistry builds slowly—think slow burn that really picks up around the 60% mark—but it’s so worth the wait.
also, it’s canadian (!!) which just made it that much more special for me. i really appreciated the inclusivity too—representation across disabilities, age, status—it felt intentional and grounded in care.
if you’re a fan of the chestnut springs series, this gives very similar vibes, but with its own distinct heart. a great start to what’s shaping up to be a really cute series
Oxana Lau has written an amazing and heartwarming book and I’m at a loss for words.
Dawn and Nash both face struggles that so many of us can relate to and the validation I felt towards my anxiety and struggles while reading chasing chords had me sobbing. Not only did Dawn and Nash make each other feel seen and heard but I felt like they were bringing light back into me that I’d lost along the way.
I am beyond speechless and still wrapping my head around how amazing and heartwarming chasing chords was. The emotional pull I had towards not only Dawn and Nash but every single character in this book was like no other. I loved how strongly Dawn fought for and loved the residents of the ranch and how much she created a home for them. The disability rep in this book had me instantly hooked and I just needed more, I loved being able to see how much the ranch and the work truely meant to them and the life they had created there. Nash was so quick to jump head first into ranch life and help rebuild the home Dawn’s parents had created and to give the residents the safety and security the ranch gave them.
Full disclosure: I am not the target audience for this book.
I am not a horsey/rodeo person, and I hate country music. But you know what? I like a good story, I love some top-notch spice, and if I can get both those things AND some realistic disability representation, I'm a happy book nerd.
I'm very grateful to have been provided an ARC for review. It took me a little while to get invested in Dawn and Nash's story, but once I got there, I was hooked. I like that each of them were on individual journeys to find their place in life, let go of some control, and start trusting their loved ones a little more. It was especially nice to see them find support in each other, even though they fought it every chance they got.
I can't wait to read more about Skyline Acres, and maybe get some more insight into Dawn and Nash's backstories? What led him to becoming the bad boy with a drinking problem that everyone alluded to? Why was barrel racing Dawn's only means of earning money to save her parents' ranch? There are plenty of unanswered questions that I'm dying to put to rest!
Oxana Lau’s Chasing chords is a wonderful, sweet romance. This dual POV follows your female main character Dawn on her journey with her anxiety and trying to keep her inherited ranch afloat with little to no money to do it, and Nash, a cancelled country star who needs a rebrand and proposes a solution that could benefit both of them. Though it’s not a country song, their love sounded like the song “I Know Love" by Tate McRae and The Kid Laroi. I really enjoyed reading this and I want to thank Oxana Lau for being so kind and allowing me to read this copy before its release date. I would definitely recommend this book to any romance lover but especially the lovers of small town, country, golden retriever black cat characters, and a yearning MMC who falls first. Overall I’d rate this book a 4.5/5 stars. I loved how it was written and I was really rooting for these two throughout the whole book.
⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 stars - I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Chasing Chords is a sweet, small-town country romance with a lot of heart. The setup was really fun, and I loved the Southern charm woven throughout. If you’re into slow-burn connection, second chances and country romance this book delivers!
That said, I found myself wanting a bit more from the character development. While I liked both MC, I didn’t feel like I fully knew them, and some emotional beats felt a little rushed. I just wanted a deeper look into their lives, especially with the amount of personal healing both characters were navigating. I think it would’ve built more angst / rooting for these two.
Still, it’s an enjoyable, easy read with a cozy vibe and themes of redemption, second chances, and finding unexpected love. I’ll definitely check out more from Oxana Lau!
🌶️ not overly spicy, but does have some spicy scenes!
Not my usual type of read, but it was a cute & quick one!
- small town romance - dual pov - country girl x country singer - he falls first
If you love a slow burn romance then this is for you!
Cowgirl meets cancelled country singer, they each have their own problems, but they will help each other. He falls first, she falls harder.
Such a cute & slow burn romance with a little bit of spice 🌶️
A huge thank you to Oxana for sending me an ARC read 🥺❤️
“Careful, cowboy. You’re starting to sound like you might have some charm after all”
”She was soft and hot—everything I could ask for. I was quickly becoming addicted to her, like a sailor enchanted by the call of a siren, knowing it could lead to my undoing but unable to turn away”
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!
3🌟 2🌶
I loved that this book had disability rep and anxiety rep in it. Canceled country star x barrel racer had great potential, but I'm not sure it got 100% of the way there.
Nash Rhodes is a big country star who is trying to work on perfecting his image. He ends up helping Dawn at Skyline Acres by planning a benefit concert. This will raise money that's he desperately needs and it will help his image.
Did I miss why he was staying in a very crappy hotel? Where is his actual home? I think the story could've been improved if maybe Dawn and Nash had an existing acquaintance-ship or something.
Lots of angst, lots of banter and tension, but overall it was a 3🌟 read for me.
This books was such a special read! It was my first cowboy romance and I’m hooked. I loved the grumpy x sunshine representation in this book with Dawn being the grump, and Nash being the sunshine! This book also had great disability representation! I loved all of the characters and felt like each one had qualities that I loved! Also loved the mental health representation, and how it was resolved! Overall, if you are looking for a cute, fluffy yet heartwarming read, this is the book for you!!
Big thank you to Oxana for the ARC, it was my first ARC approval (non netgalley “read now”lmao) and I will remember it forever! Can’t wait to see more from you in the future 💗
This gave me all the Canadian, small town, country vibes.
Dawns story with the ranch, her siblings, and Nash’s story of a washed-up country star trying to save his reputation for his best friends sake somehow blended together more perfectly than I could’ve expected.
I enjoyed that it also included representation for autism, anxiety, etc., with some of the characters on the ranch. I feel as though this was a detail that made a fairly big impact, and was very nice to see.
I’m looking forward to reading more from the author!
I did have the opportunity to receive this is an arc. This does not affect my review, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
I read this book as an ARC reviewer and I really enjoyed it. I like books about ranches, horses, cowboys, and music, so I knew I’d enjoy reading this novel.
This is Oxana Lau’s debut novel. Set in Alberta, it tells the story of Dawn, a rodeo star struggling to maintain her family’s ranch, and Nash, a struggling country music singer. The writing is great. I particularly loved the scenes that took place in the barrel racing arena - those were really well written. I hope Oxana Lau continues to write, because I’d love to read more of her books.
What a ride. From broken to whole. The journey that we went on with Nash and Dawn was a roller coaster. From the unexpected post rodeo dance to the benefit concert they were written in the stars together. What caught me off guard was the ease of which the residents characters were wrote in. They were effortlessly real, funny, and fit in with the ranch so well. The way in which Nash was integrated to the ranch and found his way into Dawns well guarded family but heart as well. Such a great debut novel, I’m looking forward to what’s next!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ARC Review I ATE this one up in 1 day! I had a soft spot for small-town romance books, but add I'm a country singer, and damn, you got me. I loved loved loved stories, with the family, and how the characters with disabilities were written in 🩷 my heart is so happy after this one!
But also, holy cow, does Nash have a filthy mouth 😳 👀 let me tell ya , when you get to the spicy part, it's SPICY! In the best ways possible 😌 It's a slow burn romance that will have you yelling at Dawn the whole way through to just GIVE IN!😆
Love love love. A beautiful debut novel. Small town romance between the beloved rodeo princess and country music star. What started out as an agreement to help each other out, his career and her ranch, turned into healing for both to open up and find what truly mattered in life.
I loved watching this very slow burn come together. Dawn is carrying a ton a responsibility and has closed herself off. Nash is in desperate need of a reputation bounce back to the stage. But in each other they really grow into their own. It’s such a sweet story with heartfelt moments and yummy spice ♥️🥰🥰
First and foremost, thank you to the author for the opportunity to ARC read this and congratulations on your debut. I can not wait to read more of your books. I absolutely enjoyed this book so much. I don't know what it about small town romance that are music related. The slow burn in this was "chef's kiss".
Our FMC, Dawn Taylor is the princess rodeo who inherits her family's ranch after her parents pass away. Along with the ranch, she also inherits their debts and struggles to make ends meet. She's a strong and an amazing woman who's also extremely stubborn. She has people who offer her help yet, she declines them pretty often.
Nash Rhodes is our MMC and a cancelled country singer. He is trying to fix his destroyed image when he meets Dawn and has a potential solution that can benefit both of them. Nash is just a sweetheart. I fell in love with him so quickly.
I love them together. They were fun and the banter was perfection. All in all, this was such a cute and fun story. If you're a fan of Chestnut Springs, you'll enjoy this as much as I did.
🎶 Small town romance 🎵 Forced proximity 🎶 Slow burn 🎵 Second chance 🎶 Down syndrome rep 🎵 Autism rep 🎶 Found family 🎵 He falls first 🎶 Tension & banter
Chasing Chords is the first in the Skyline Acres Series and it was a short and cute read. Dawn and Nash are full of banter, spice and second chances. I love how they both grow as characters but I wish we saw more. I cannot wait to see what book 2 will bring. Thank you Oxana Lau for the opportunity to read this book.
I knew I was going to love this book as soon as I saw the playlist 🥹👢Chasing Chords has officially started my country/cowboy romance obsession! A beautifully written slow burn that made me gasp, cry, and get shivers!!! I especially loved the representation of autism, Down syndrome, and anxiety. Oxana Lau definitely how to write an amazing country romance!
I had the pleasure to read this before the release and fell in love! I love being able to support fellow Canadians and will definitely be getting the physical copy on release day!
as someone who has to carry everything on their shoulders I really resonated with Dawn and her growth to actually let someone in and allow the help from others.
