Sixteen-year-old Callon wants to be a writer, and when his parents leave him alone near the end of the school year and move to a new city , he gets his chance. He moves into a small cabin and begins an independent life. He drops out of school to pursue his writing. Eventually runs out of food and money but refuses to get a job in the town. He must learn hunt, and forage on his own. Will he survive?
