“Every world is a chess game, child. Only this one is more obvious.”
Shipwrecked Florence Hightower finds herself a prisoner on a mysterious island where two kingdoms—Light and Dark—are waging a bloody war to kill each other’s kings.
As the lives of a kind peasant boy, a sultry queen, and a vengeful knight intertwine amid the horrors of war, Florence realizes the only way to save herself and the human “chess pieces” from their impending deaths is to assassinate the “Masters,” the unseen sorcerers manipulating the island from a supernatural chessboard.
But the Masters are always one move ahead of her.
If Florence doesn’t play her greatest game yet, the death toll will rise, and she’ll learn the true meaning of “sacrifice.”
The concept for this book was definitely a unique one, but it absolutely worked! The story is full of adventure, friendship, challenges...etc. This was a fun read and I would definitely recommend it.
