This is a stand alone novella that is part of The Washington Triplet Novellas:
The Quiet One
Mikaela Washington, the middle Triplet, has always been labeled the quiet one. Her parents claim her as the introvert or just shy. Of course she was, what other role could she take? All the others had been fulfilled.
Going away to college with her sisters was always the plan until unforeseen circumstances push Mikaela into a dark corner she can’t get out of. Her sisters think she’s just being more unusual than normal and her dad barely notices. The only person she can trust and confide in is her mom.
She stays back and lives at home with her parents. These years are difficult, but she manages to find a career and go to therapy. During this time she learns her family home is not what it seems. She sees and hears things that her sisters know nothing about. Then when her mom suddenly dies she’s left to deal with not only her tragedy, but also the secrets of her family. Finally Mikaela realizes it’s time… time to move on, live on her own like her sisters and try to start new. When she moves to California she finds the job of her dreams and the man of her dreams attached to it… Ryan Chambers.

Melissa Rolka grew up in the Chicagoland area all of her childhood and has always had a love of writing. She started by keeping a journal at a young age and then in high school she started writing poetry. A couple poems were published anonymously. Then in college she majored in Philosophy, which required lots and lots of writing. After graduating from Marquette University she traveled west to Los Angeles. There she worked for the Writers Guild of America and found herself submerged in the writers world. She worked on small writings, but never pursued them. On the side she became involved with a small theater group. Eventually she made her way back to the Midwest, where her heart belongs, and worked in business for several years. She found love, got married and has two beautiful children. Being at home has allowed her to keep following her love of reading and writing.
The Perfect Distraction is her first full length novel. A second continuation of this story is in the works with hopes for a third. When Melissa is not writing she is caring for, playing with and loving her two kids. In between taking care of her family and writing she almost always has her nose buried in her Kindle.
Love Found in California is so much packed into a small, novella sized package. In Mikaela’s story, you get to know the middle triplet, the one they call the quiet one.
Mikaela (or Mik) is going through an internal struggle and the way Melissa writes it, you can feel Mikaela’s pain. The pain she is harboring from her past threatens to ruin the wonderful relationship she has with the dreamy Ryan. Mikaela wants to be happy. But in order to be happy, she’ll have to deal with her past. And that’s easier said than done.
Love Found in California is intriguing. It has all of the elements of a great story. It’s a story of love, growth, strength and real-life. The Washington Triplets are so completely different and so completely GOOD! Loved it! 5 STARS!!
Melissa ended this series beautifully!! This is the last book in The Washington Triplets Series and I loved the first 2 books. But, I must say they def saved the best for last!! Mikaela AKA Mik has had the hardest most painful life out of the 3 Washington triplets. But, I feel like she's also the strongest. And, Melissa did a fantastic job.
Mik is the youngest sister and was the quiet one. But, right after she graduates high school she experiences something tragic. But, there's nobody she feels she can talk too. Instead, Mik doesn't go away to college with her sisters, she stays locked in her room for months.
Just like the other 2 books her mother knows her daughters. She convinces Mik to see a therapist. Finally, Mik decides it's time to live her life. She ends up running to California. Where she meets Ryan.
Now, Ryan is my favorite guy of this whole series!! And, I mean by a landslide. Mik met Ryan at her job and he also is her boss. But, Ryan does not care about that. It was always his job, his business, his career that was #1 to him. Until Mikaela walked into his office. Now, Mik is his #1 for everything. But, he knows there is something big she's keeping from him. Ryan is at a loss. He doesn't know what to do to get Mik to trust him 100% to tell him what is going on. But, he also knows not to push her. That she will tell him when she's ready.
Mik can not seem to get her mind clear. And, ever since her mom passed away it's even worse. She was the only person who understood her. Add her dad getting married 6 months after she lost her mom. After an accident her and Ryan decide she'll go back to therapy. With the goal she will tell Ryan the truth 100% of the truth.
No matter what was thrown at these 2, they always came out on top. And, stronger then before. Between issues at work. Ryan's family making their lives miserable. Mik dad getting married. Her and her sisters not speaking. To Mik's past coming out. Wow!! When Ryan breaks I broke out crying with him. But, they always came out of top together stronger before. **Sigh**
Melissa really did an excellent job with this one. Even though it was a novella. From the first page to the last I think for more then 1/2 the book I was holding my breath the other 1/2 I was tearing. I honestly don't think anybody else could of written Mik & Ryan story as good as Melissa did. From the flashbacks of Mik when she was younger, to her relationship with Ryan and then the worst day in her life. It was done beautifully!! Thanks Melissa. Now, if I could get a full length book of these 2, I'd be stoked!!
I received the book from the touring host for an honest review.
Love found in California was in my opinion the best in the Washington Series. The story was original, the characters realistic and believable and the book well written. I just connected with the character better; her role of the shy, quiet triplet showed more depth than the others did. Maybe it has to do with the manner in which the author wrote this particular book. Whatever the reason Maleika was a woman I really admired. I have never read Melissa Rolka's books but her sensitivity to the issue of rape was heart warming, she helped you understand the damage it can have on a young woman and the time of acceptance it took to heal. Without the proper supporting system it is just impossible. All three books was unique in the way it was written but book 3 gave more answers; especially between the relationship of the mother and father figures within the book. The thread that was kept throughout the books. The loss of a mother and the immediate marriage of the father was to all three the sisters a touchy subject. Each experiencing it differently but yet in many ways the same. The fact that they never talked with each other about it while struggling to get over the betrayal was the common bond that kept the stories interesting. The father's struggle to reach out to his daughters trying to repair the damage that was caused. Again you see that to assume before you react can cause havoc in relationships. Each sister going her own way to get rid of the pain. Maleika's character had more to deal with and her newly married hubby...my word where can we find an older version of him? I am definitely in love. Ryan was just the best ever, okay that sounded much like a teenager, but my word, he is perfection. *smile* All kidding aside he was really the pillar that protected her, never wavering. Not even when he had no idea of her pain and suffering did he back down. He stood by her, helped her and like a knight of old he guarded her, love her and protected her at all times. This was truly a great story that I enjoyed. I would have loved for the series to continue, reading from the father's point of view. I think it would make a huge difference in the closing of the story and what happened next.
I received this book from the author for an honest opinion.
If you haven't read Melissa you are missing out. The way she crafts her story with her hints and forshadowing makes you tune in and drown out the outside world. She writes intense books that defo make the tummy nervous and the heart beat a bit faster.
This is the third triplet story in the Washington Triplets series. Each book can be read as a stand alone but elements of the side triplet sisters does appear in the stories. However, you will not be lost if you dont read the stories in release order or seperately.
Mik is very shy and withdrawn. We don't know why but Melissa makes sure we want to know why. Her description of the colors Mik uses to tell us the reader about her state of mind is brilliant. It is something all readers can understand.
Mik is fighting alot of internal demons while trying to keep her delicious man Ryan happy. He knows there is something but being the awesome man he is, doesnt push. Mik is forced to open up to him when her secrets cause an accident. However, delicious Ryan is there for his girl. He is really the most amazing man. The two battle the demons she is keeping, his families dilike of her and their working relationship.
When Mik finally opens up, heart break is all I can say. The way Mik is and the anxiety she has we KINDA can guess the issues she has but.......When Mik finally spills, hese revelation make our alpha hottie Ryan go nuts because he wasnt there for his girl. Again, I fell so in love with Ryan this book.
I am really keeping this review "general" becasue I dont want to ruin any element of this story. I think it was written really well and the way Melissa flashes back and forth in time to help us understand Mik's life and choices is great.
Love Found in California was a beautiful story and nothing that I expected. I read the other two Washington Triplet books beforehand, so I thought this would go a similar direction. I was very wrong and so happy to be wrong. Though there is much heartbreak in Mikaela's past and so much for her to work through in her present, her love with Ryan, her life in California, her renewed hope for her future, all provided such a well developed and touching story. The use of flashbacks with the present was really well written, and while I'm not always a fan of this style, I thought it was perfect for this story. There is some sensitive material to deal with here, and I thought the author did a wonderful job with it. Mikaela was a beautifully developed character, and the story truly centers around her. She has much to deal with, and I felt like the author really helped me to understand her and where she was coming from and see her grow stronger page by page. Ryan, the sensitive and unconditionally loving man in Mikaela's life, is so integral to everything and was the perfect addition. I loved his character and loved their story together. This one wrapped up beautifully. I could read about Ryan and Mikaela all day long. They were truly lovely
Series Review: I enjoyed this series as a whole. I love that each story is a piece of a triple companion series, but each also feels complete all on its own. There was a glimpse of the other sisters in each book, but only enough to grab my interest without spoiling their stories and not enough to overpower the beautiful individual stories of each sister. Plus, I love the idea that each sister is written by a different author, truly making the characters' voices their own. Each story was unique and truly enjoyable. I also liked the reading order of New York, then Alaska, then California. I liked them all, and they seemed to get better and better. The California book was my favorite, but honestly I liked them all.
Of the three excellent books in the Washington Triplets series, Love Found in California was the one that touched me the most – and the one that made me well up…just a little.
Mikaela Washington has always been the “quiet one”. After losing her mother, the one person she could open up to – at least partially – about her pain, Mik knows it’s time for her to move on.
Starting over in California, she find her perfect match in Ryan Chambers and with his help, attempts to deal with her pain, her secrets, and the rift in her family that her father’s upcoming marriage threatens to deepen.
Ryan. Wow, he’s just….wow. I loved him from the moment he appeared in this book, and I love him still. Of all the men in this stellar series, he was hands-down my favorite – as was this stirring installment. The love between Ryan and Mikaela was tangible and real, and leapt from the pages of the book. I ached for Mikaela’s hurt and hoped for her to open up and let her love in fully, because Ryan deserved it.
Despite being novella length, I felt that this was a complete and full story – and while I would have happily read on and on and on, I never once felt rushed by it, nor do I feel like anything was missing. The focus remained solely on Mik and Ryan and for that, I am grateful. It was such a beautiful, heart-breaking and heart-warming story, that to be distracted by other characters would have been a crime.
In Love Found in California, Melissa Rolka has created the perfect conclusion to a unique and enjoyable series. There is something in these books for everyone. I can only hope that maybe, just maybe, there might be more from these girls and their friends again someday.
Love Found in California is the third and final book in the Washington Triplets series and can be read standalone. ~ Beth, 5 stars.
I loved this book and I'm sad to end my journey with the Washington triplet but this was a great way to end the series.
Loved found in California by Melissa Rolka is the third and final novella of the Washington Triplets series. We met Mikaela (aka Mik) the middle triplet have always been labeled the quiet one. But something tragic happens to her in high school that left her alienating herself from her sisters and becoming distant from her family.
Melissa had a wonderful way of writing Mik story. In a series of flashbacks, we are able to see how she meets Ryan but also how she deals with the horrible thing that has happened to her, dealing with the loss her her mother, as well as the hurt she feels from her father. Ryan, was by far my favorite guy in the Washington triplet series. He was the rock that Mik need to face her demons and he loved her unconditionally, even when he didn't know the full extent of what she was dealing with. When Mik was finally ready to open herself up, not only did she heal herself but she was able to bring her sisters together.
This was such a great series. To get three different authors to write these novellas about these three sisters and get a different feel from each story, was a wonderful change. Absolutely loved it and would definitely recommend it.
This was a really good book. Mikaela Washington is the middle triplet. Her sisters - Mya and Marisa are her sisters. Marisa was the oldest and she was the "good girl." While Mya was the youngest and the rebel. Mikaela was the quiet one and she didn't know how to react in social situations. Right after her high school graduation something tragic happens to her and she goes further into herself. She won't tell anyone and then she stays home when her sisters go off to college. Finally, she moves to California from Chicago to try to find her own place. She gets a job in an animation company and falls in love with the boss. Ryan Chambers knows from the moment he meets Mik that there is something about her and he's never felt anything like it.
Mikaela has had to deal with alot but she's done her best to get over it. She still has panic attacks and has problems talking. It takes alot for her to open up even to her new husband.
Ryan loves Mik and will do anything for her. He supports her and does everything he can to make her feel loved. He holds her hand and protects her.
What a wonderful finish to this series. Melissa couldn't have done a better job wrapping it up.
Mikaela is such a great character. You want her to be more boisterous but that's just not Mikaela, she is so strong yet meek at the same time. Having so much hiding in her past she is left keeping those secrets and her very self in the past. I loved Mikaela because she fought with her demons but wouldn't let them win. I really loved watching her transform..
Ryan is OMG wonderful. You fall for him from the beginning of the book and just keep falling. He is such a great independent man. He's also loving, understanding, caring and sooooo romantic. I absolutely loved his character and how wonderful he was with Mikaela. Never pushing her too hard or making her feel guilty for not sharing her past makes him a ten in my book!!
The way this book unfolds is just pure beauty. There was so much that had to be revealed in this one and Melissa did such a great job doing so. Five beautiful, sparkly, Washington stars have been granted :)
I already kind of knew what Mikaela's issue was from the hints in Love Discovered In New York. I was just needing confirmation from Mikaela.
This book was different from the other two because Mikaela is already married, where as the other two books were meet & fall in love.
This difference was refreshing and gave this book another facet to make it unique. We still got the meet & fall in love in the form of flashbacks, but I think the major "Love Found In California" was the love Mikaela found for herself.
Mikaela's soul was just destroyed and it was heartbreaking. I can't imagine carrying the weight of what happened all those years on her own.
I am so glad that *someone* got the shit beat out of him towards the end of this book.
Truly enjoyed this immensely. The is the first thing I've read by Melissa Rolka, but I know now, I'll be reading more of her stuff.
First I want to say I loved all three books so much getting into the heads of these sisters was amazing. That being said this book out of all three was my favorite. I am not sure if you are familiar with Melissa Rolka work but she has this ability to tell a story that breaks and heals your heart all at one time. Mik was so emotionally destroyed by the things she went through. I had an idea that it was leading up to what I found out. But non the less it was heartbreaking to see her work through the horrible emotions of her past to be with Ryan. And oh wow Ryan he is my hero I can't say enough about this character he was phenomenal in every way. I loved the past and present that this story brought. And slowly building up to the day everything comes to a blow. Ryans parents treat her awful I have felt that way before too so can totally understand they way it makes you feel as if you are not good enough. Melissa you my friend are so talented I am truly blown away. I know you have family but I need more books from you like today
This books was a little more sadder than the rest. I had a feeling it would be. I was also hoping for more of a reunion with the sisters at the end of the series.
Mikaela is finally trying to move on with her life. She got away from her family and her home town. She is with a wonderful man, but none of her family knows about him. He doesn't even know her secrets yet. She knows she needs to come clean to him, but she is scared she will lose him. Can she find the strength to confess her secrets? Or will she lose the only man she has loved?
Ryan loves Mik and he knows their relationship has moved fast. He would give anything to have all of Mik. He knows she is hiding things from him and he hopes that she will open up to him. It is hard for him to know that she doesn't trust him with them. Can he help her open up? Can he show that he will be there no matter what?
This is the third installment to the Washington triplets and I really enjoyed this series!!! I really liked getting to know the triplets and would love to read more about them!!
Mikaela Washington is the shy triplet. She was always more reserved than her two sisters, but that label really became true the summer before college. Suddenly Mikaela didn’t want to leave her room or talk to anyone. Her mom knew something bad had happened, but Mikaela wouldn’t talk to anyone except for her therapist. After her mother’s death, Mikaela needed to go someplace where no one knew her and try to start over. Ryan Chambers helped her do that.
Ryan is nothing like the men Mya and Marissa fell in love with. He’s not dominant or alpha. He is a man and doesn’t koutou to Mikaela, he’s patient and loving with her. Deep down he knows she’s wounded, although she’s never told him why. I enjoyed this story. It is different from the other two stories in this series, a bit darker, but a tender story. Melissa Rolka hints at the sex scenes, but doesn’t get into details, making this book less erotic, but still just as good in its own right. I give this book 4 stars.
Mikaela Washington is the quiet triplet. The mysterious one that even her sisters don’t fully understand. She keeps to herself, shelters her emotions inwardly, and trusts no one. Melissa Rolka did a fabulous job of growing a character through a story filled with acceptance of not only one self, but others. She completes this all while adding an emotionally and loving relationship between two people who are still discovering new things about the other. I loved this story for showing how people can perceiver against horrible things and can gradually overcome obstacles that keep them in a dark place for too long. Mix in a dreamy leading man and Melissa truly knocked it out of the park on this one!!
I loved this story so much! Mikaela had a traumatic event happen in her life during her high school years and was afraid to express her issues with her family. Mikaela's mom saw something was wrong but was taken from her life before she could find out what happened and help her.
Mikaela moved to California and pursued her career, she landed her dream job and also met an amazing man, Ryan. They have an immediate attraction, Ryan helps Mikaela face her past and move past it. This story is a novella and I wish so badly that it was a full length novel! I fell in love with Mikaela and Ryan, I can't wait to read the other two novellas in the collection.
This was a fantastic way to end the Washington Triplet series! Mikaela is the quiet triplet or as she refers to herself as the wallflower. She has a traumatic experience in her past that make her even more withdrawn and struggles with braking out of her shell. Melissa Rolka does what she does best and thats making us fall in love with her characters. By the end of the story your rooting and celebrating for Mikaela as she heals old wounds and falling head over heals in love with Ryan. If you haven't read any of Miss Rolka's books by now what are you waiting for???
I received this for an honest review. I have to say that i love it when a book surprises me. That is what this one did for me. I read the first two and thought I knew how things would go but no. I thought this a very enjoyable book. I am so happy that I was able to read it along with the others. With this one you could just feel the love between Mikayla and Ryan pouring off the pages. Such an enjoyable read.
Great short romance novella. True to the author's style she makes you fall in love with the characters and wraps you up in the story. She gives you just enough to make you want a little more. I haven't read the other two novellas in this series, but as a stand alone book this definitely leaves you satisfied. Looking for a character to fall in love with? Give Ryan a chance!
The ending is such sweet sorrow. I enjoyed Mik story and was happy that my aasumption was right and as the author said, I got a WTF surprise. I could choke the mess out of Eric ol' arrogant S.O.B. I truly enjoyed Ryan and am happy he is taking away the red blue and purple.
I will once again say, I need MORE from the Washington Triplets.
Mikaela Washington is the shy, introverted sister who has a big dark secret she has kept hidden from everyone including her sisters and her amazingly supportive husband Ryan. Another great story in The Washington Triplets Series. A lovely read that I would recommend.
oh wow what a read this is the third book in the series and i absolutely loved it Melissa hits some hard topics in this book and i think she dealt with it brilliantly.I connected to characters straight away and couldn't put the book down.I recommend this book to everyone.
Love Found in California started off with Mikela already in a relationship with Ryan Chambers. As the story progresses, we get the back story by way of many, many flashbacks and daydreams on Mikela's part. I didn't find it romantic or feel that Mik and Ryan had a strong connection with each other - they were just together. Mik is dealing with a traumatic past which has caused her to isolate herself from everyone including her sisters. She's somehow let Ryan in but only on the surface.
I dived right into this book after reading Mya's story. I just found it very boring and after repeatedly skimming pages, I gave up 👎🏼
Rating: Title: Love Found in California Series: The Washington Triplets Author: Melissa Rolka Genre: Contemporary Romance Heat: 3 stars Source: ARC provided by Book Plug Promotions
***This is a trilogy, with each book about one of the triplets. Each triplet's book is written by a different author, which give each of the girls their own distinct voice and personality, but the authors have meshed data and information really well, that it never feels disconnected.***
This is the perfect ending for this series. Out of the three books from this trilogy, this one has touched me deeper.
Mikaela and Ryan's love story is really beautiful. She seems ready to let go of her pains and he is the perfect person to cure her sorrows. Their story seems complete from the beginning until the end of the book. I feel they are as real as any of my friends and I have lived a cathartic experience with them.
I'm not going to say much about the story, because I don't want to spoil the experience, but by being the quiet one, Mikaela has held some bad experiences closed inside of her, without ever sharing with anyone. That are moments that I've felt her silence cutting through my emotions, and it seemed like I was living them with her.
I have enjoy this whole trilogy and Love Found in California has perfectly meshed this three sisters together. Even though I know their stories has been told to it's fullest, I still believe there is more into their world the authors could explore. I would love to know more about them, and what the future has given these sisters.
I will be definitely be adding all three authors to my must-read list, and I will be on the look out for their work.
This series is a journey of love, of connections, of family and of pain. I would recommend it to all romantic souls out there!

WOW! After reading the first two books I was shocked at Mikaela's relationship status. I was even more shocked to hear about her relationship past. The poor girl had so much to overcome in this book. Her past and present were causing her trouble. I was so happy to see how supportive that Ryan was. I absoulutely love Ryan. He was just amazing. I love he made Mik his whole world. The love at first sight concept has been in each book and this one I really felt it. These three books are all beautiful and full of growth but, I do believe this one tops them all. This book is full of a beautiful love that grows strong and heals the heart. I love when Ryan confronts Eric! It is just perfect and I loved him so much more for it. I just wanted so much more from each book. I am so loving their HEA moments and how we get a little hint into each sisters future at the end of the book. I am in love with this series and you will be too!!! ~Lisa
Mik and Ryan were a ok story. I liked them together and how much they truly loved each other but I think their actually story of becoming married was lacking. It wasn't bad it was just ok. I felt bad that Ryan's family was so unaccepting of Mik. I'm not sure why I wasn't as into this book as the others. I just felt bad for Mik she was so broken and sad. Which is understandable I just wish this book was a bit more. That's all I can really say. I liked both characters etc. it just was an ok book. As stupid as this sounds in all three books it's never disclosed exactly how their mother dies btw I find that very odd.
Love this series! Mikaela's story is so different than Mya's and Marisa's. In Mikaela's book, her story is more emotional! She has a dark secret that she's kept from everyone for so many years. Ryan is her loving husband, who just does everything for her to make her happy! He shows her no matter what he loves her and will stand by her thru it all. A real testament to their relationship. He's a supporting husband and it's realistic!
I love this series and sad that it ends in this book!! I would LOVE to see more of these triplets!
Okay authors, seriously. I know you don't like to give too much away in a synopsis but a trigger warning is really always appropriate. Having a panic attack in the middle of a book meant to be used as an escape from everyday life isn't cool. I did manage to finish this book and I am giving it 4 stars because I thought it was well written and handled the content well. However, unfortunately we live in a world where one in four women will be sexually assaulted in their life time. Try to be a little more sensitive to their plight when writing sensitive material.
This series was great to read I loved each book but was more emotional with the last if you've read the other books which I recommend you know Makaela (probably spelling that wrong) had distanced herself from the other two triplets. I kind of had a few clues in the other books and am sad it was confirmed. But I'm glad her husband helped her heal although I think she should have told her sisters, it could get awkward without it. I hate that this book ended I truly got involved with the girls and their spouses and wanted more on how their future is.
