Charlie is back and struggling to reclaim who she was before she was recruited to join a secret spy network arm of the Airforce. All she wants is to fly planes again and forget the pain of her past.
Eight years after being duped by a charming "farmer" who turned out to be a billionaire in disguise, Charlie discovers that the same smooth-talking jerk is now soaring through the skies as a pilot. Not just any pilot, but the captain who has to approve her hours to reclaim her place in the sky. To make matters worse, the billionaire pilot is now engaged to Charlie's bitter rival.
"Take a page out of his book," Cyn, Charlie's FBI agent best friend, advises. "Just fly with him once to get your hours approved; he is not going to know who you are; he hasn't seen you in over eight years. You've completed plenty of missions... Let's call this one Operation Fool the Fool."
Charlie sets out to get the hours of approval she desperately needs, but will the mighty Justin Forge recognize her, and will she discover that he has been frantically searching for her all these years?
A lot can happen to a person in eight years; experiences can change who we are. As a spy embedded within an elite military unit, I was trained to fortify my mind against the surrounding chaos.
The lesson we were taught was it’s not about what you leave behind, but rather what you take with you. However, I struggled to learn that lesson. Instead, I brought back memories inflicted by the marks of miserable men. These memories have haunted me daily since I was reunited with the one man I secretly longed to see again.
I know being with him is impossible, but in those fleeting moments when our eyes connect, he can make me forget my past and all the things I must leave behind.
It has been eight years, six months, and five days since she vanished from my world - a world where I was crowned a king. I warrant no kingdom without her by my side. Joy, purpose, and hope have all eluded me in her absence. One miraculous day, she walks back into my world and pretends like she does not know who I am. Even though I can see she is not the same woman I once knew, she is more than I could ever imagine.
The passage of time left its mark, yet my feelings and promises remain as strong as ever. No dark secrets from my family will stand in the way of our reunion, and no man alive can keep me from standing by her side.
I truly enjoyed the heroine in this story. In this second book, Charliz is retired from her dangerous and traumatic work as a spy. She only wants to fly commercial planes and live a quiet, normal life at this point. That's when her old love from 13 years before finds her after years of searching. Im relieved that the book wasn't just about Justin's relatives objecting to his girlfriend while he's being blackmailed. Honestly, he still gets on my nerves from time to time in this story. A lot happened in this book to where it is inevitable that we will be seeing the supporting characters in other books by this author. I also wonder if Charliz and Justin will see their mutual boogeyman and his cult in one of those books, because I feel like he is still waiting in the wings for them.
Book number two was more powerful than book number one. Charlie and Justin‘s love story had me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. I love how Cyn and Fate stood by their sister and stood up for her and would go against any man for her. I love the fact that Justin would go against everyone in his family to show Darling how much he truly loved her and I loved how much she would fight all her demons to be there with and for her man. This is an exceptional book and I hope that there is a book 3 to finalize everything.
While I greatly enjoyed this author's work, I felt let down with the ending. There was a great build up to a satisfying conclusion, it didn't happen. Will there be another book to fulfill the promise of retribution? If so, I'm in.
Book 2 comes around full circle of all the mysteries of book 1. Lovers are connected more than they thought and I love a fated love story. I look forward to side couple stories Bart and Cynthia and maybe Ace and Fate
I am in such awe of this story... Chomping at bits for book 3..amazing writer.. The weaving of plots and characters is so entertaining.. Five stars and more🎇🎇✨✨✨✨✨
I love the life lessons written by Charlez's Dad. Henry/Justin never gave up on looking for his Darling. Hoping that there is another book to take down the threat that still exists for them.
