What is Overeating and Compulsive Eating?

Overeating means excessive eating. Compulsive eating is uncontrolled overeating based on "emotional hunger," not physical hunger. It often comes with a seemingly irresistible urge to eat.
What are the warning signs of compulsive overeating?

People who compulsively overeat are often trying to find comfort, escape from a problem, or calm their anxiety with food. Emotional eaters are trapped in a vicious cycle: eating to feel better, feeling worse instead, and then turning back to food for comfort and relief.
What are some of the effects and symptoms of overeating?

Physical symptoms of overeating: Chronic neck and joint pain, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, kidney disorder, shortness of breath after mild exertion

Relational symptoms of overeating: Feeling embarrassed, feeling inhibited, feeling isolated, and feeling rejected.

Emotional Symptoms of overeating: anger, anxiety, depression, guilt, hopelessness, etc

Spiritual Symptoms of overeating: disobedience (gluttony), shame, guilt, self-condemnation

Short, to the point, helpful.

June Hunt beautifully walks the line of motivation and confrontation. She cites clearly and concisely the root causes, dangers, and solutions for overeating. She attacks the problem, the symptoms, and sources without coming across as unloving or failing to understand.

My only grip might be some of the Bible verses she site are a little out of place, but overall it's a great message made better by the Christian influence.

Good read, would recommend to anyone, especially someone who will not sit to read a longer book on the topic.

This really helped me. I would have given five stars, but there were portions of the book devoted to purging and laxatives, which I didn't need and that shortened an already short book.

Starting Point

Not bad. It's a good starting point. I was hoping it would go a bit deeper. The Bible verses at the end will be helpful
