When Germany's leading tank ace meets the Steppe Fox it's a fight to the death. Faced with overwhelming odds Kampfgruppe von Schroif needs a better tank and fast; but the new Tiger tank is still on the drawing board and von Schroif must overcome bureaucracy, espionage and relentless Allied bombing to get the Tiger into battle in time to meet the ultimate challenge.Based on a true story of combat on the Russian Front, this powerful new novel is written by Emmy Award winning writer Bob Carruthers and newcomer Sinclair McLay. It tells the gripping saga of how the Tiger tank was born and a legend forged in the heat of combat. Gritty, intense and breath taking in its detail, this sprawling epic captures the reality of the lives and deaths of the tank crews fighting for survival on the Eastern Front, a remarkable novel worthy of comparison with 'Das Boot'.

Tiger Command! was an easy book to read, but a far less one to believe. The elements surrounding the crewing and training of the tanks' personnel, plus some of the action sequences, were feasible. But the general story line was, I felt, grossly flawed.
Anyway, as a background to the life, times and relationship of a Nazi tank crew it scores well; having been written by a former Tiger tank commander (Ritter von Klaus).

(Reposted from Amazon) There were a few complaints in other reviews about the editing of this book, and, taken out of context, I can understand from where they might arise. I suspect that those reviewers did not bother to read the afterword, nor do they take into consideration the difficulties with translating a novel written by a soldier whose turns of phrase and overall language is just that, the language of soldiers. I personally would have preferred the book to be edited a bit more, as there are a few passages that may not flow as well as they could, but on the other hand, this is a historical manuscript that happens to be written in novel form. How much is factual and how much is fiction is up to the reader to determine. I recommend this book if you enjoy reading about soldiers working as a unit, about a commander who cares about his troups, and about how a unit such as a tank crew is greater than the sum of its parts.

A very good fictional based on facts story.

I am always torn when reading these eastern front battle stories. On the one hand I identify with the German soldier and people who are now friends and whom I am friends with several in real life. Knowing at the same time they must and did lose the war. I respect the Russian soldier but have extreme contempt for the officers and leaders who so callously sent so many red army soldiers to be slaughtered needlessly.

a very good account of war on the eastern front during world war 2. it is very technical in parts when explaining the workings of a Tiger tank but not to the extent of spoiling the action which is fast and furious at times. if you enjoy books on world war 2 then give it a try as it is pretty cheap to purchase on kindle.

A decent read...provides a nice factionalized account of the historical development of the Tiger tank and its first combat use.

Great read

Great story, and technical insight. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book from cover to cover. A great look inside the Tiger
