Kinsley Fallon is a drug — intoxicating, forbidden and utterly addictive.
You Are The Reason is a steamy romantic suspense with subtle darker themes. When I was eight, my father disappeared. Two years later, my brother died in an accident; one that has left me with many unanswered questions. Now years later and haunted by a childhood I can’t piece together, I’m determined to uncover the truth.
That is until my alluring landlord — Tanner, forced his way into my life. He sees past the mask I have spent most of my life perfecting, and unlocks a deep, emotional craving I can’t deny.
Just as I find contentment in this new direction, a choice stirs. Can I take off my mask and show him the real me? Or will I run; leaving him and the chance for love to heal my trauma behind?
Wow, this made me feel all sorts of emotions and had my eyes leaking!
From the 1st chapter I was hooked. The relationship between Kinsley and Jesse is absolutely beautiful. To have someone in your life that you have that connection with is phenomenal! And Jesse is just a dream man, one who will be anything she needs and protect her with his life.
Then we have bad boy, biker Tanner. But is he really the bad boy he portrays? He will burn the world down for Kinsley and I adore his nickname for her 'Pip'.
This book I couldn't put down and read it in just over a day. Cannot wait for book two. 5 star read for me.
Loved this story! I mean, who doesn't love a possessive tattooed biker with a heart of gold?? Not to mention the guy who's been there since your childhood and will drop everything to help you. There's lots of mental health representation in this book and it was heart warming seeing how much everyone cared about Kinsley. I was a bit worried about the potential love triangle at first but there was no need. Be warned, bring tissues!
You are the reason changed my life. T Straatman wrote a story that gives any other a run for its money in terms of how emotionally invested I became with the characters. Unrequited love, suspense and mental health rep - you’ll be sucked in from the dedication, and devour every page after.
Plus the spice, the curvy heroine, the loyalty. I still think about it weeks after reading it.
Ok so I kindly need books 2, 3 and the rest now please and thanks!
So much going on in this world at the end of book 1, I simply cannot wait to see new relationships forming with characters in this world and to see where the plot goes.
All the questions, all the tension building and past trauma, present trauma and a lot that hits closer to home than I initially realised was ravelled up in this story that was so easy to just devour.
This was a fantastic and relatable debut novel. Thank you so much to the author for the opportunity to ARC read this book! I’ll be not so patiently waiting for book 2
Wow for a first book that was so good, it was my first ARC and now I want the second one too. Love how it’s based in Australia, I don’t read many books that are.
It had a bit of everything and it makes you feel all the emotions, you get spicy, plots twists, happiness, sadness.
Love the different types of characters in there, you get a mix of them all. I want a Tanner in my life aha. I do wish it was a little longer but for her first book it is still so good. Can’t wait for the second book in the series!! 🌶️🌶️.5/5 Thank you so much for the ARC copy T. Straatman, and congratulations on your first novel!!
Honestly, it took me a second to get it, but once I figured out the dynamic between the three MCs I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It was giving love triangle without the drama and mess, but I loved it.
Was not expecting the big sad with Jesse, but it fit the story so well. Seeing the loyalty of their friendship right through until the end was great and seeing Tanner step up and be there was just as good.
Wow what an emotional roller coaster. I was hooked from the very beginning. Childhood friends, unrequited love, metal health rep and a bad boy tattooed biker. The connections that Jesse and Tanner both have with Kinsley are beautiful and the way they understand her is rare and incredible. Be prepared, you definitely need tissues.
100% hooked on this book. I can’t wait for the next one in the series! Such a great plot and story line that kept me on my toes. Still reeling from the plot twist at the end!
I am speechless! I haven’t got the words to describe the emotional response I had to this story. I couldn’t put it down and it was worth the tired eyes the next day!
I have had sufficient time to contemplate the words I want to use for this book because I came into this story with my heart in love with one character and then HAD MY HEART BRUTUALLY RIPPED OUT AND TORN INTO PIECES and then was reminded "this is a dark romance" and I went ..... true.
Tiarne's debut novel will have you sitting there like 👁👄👁 As you fall in love with the good, the bad and the messy. She depicts them so well that you almost feel like you're there. She will elicit joy, major sadness, concern and confusion for you (in all good ways) and have you sit there thinking WHY TIARNE? WHY?! (ifyky).
highly recommend to those who love dark romance, girls who had a mafia Wattpad romance affair and practically anyone who wants their heart strings pulled at.
If a book can make you feel all kinds of emotions and even bring a stream of tears to your eyes, can it ever be less than a 5 start read! Instantly, I fell in love with Kinsley, Tanner, and Jesse, and when Sophie was introduced, I rated her too. There was so much going on towards the end of this book that I just couldn't put it down. Let me tell you I need book 2 already! Wow, what a great debut!
I have sat for a while on how i wrote this review - as a debut novel, it always a nerve wracking time for an author to put themselves out there.
As someone who doesn’t always put a lot of effort into reviews. I think it says a lot that this book resonated with me so much that i wanted to write something that does it justice. This is the first book i have ever gone back and re-read several portions. In some warped way i think to try gaslight myself 🤣 - FYI it didn’t work. But i did cry EVERY time so that should tell you something.
This first instalment gave me everything i love in books: 📖 An absolute banger of a start - that literally grabs you in a choke hold and thats it you sold your soul to the devil and all life ceases till you finish reading this. By this we mean a health dose of emotional whiplash, the introduction of not 1 but 2 men you will fall in love with, some juicy spice just right out that gate. Look listen, put your seat belt on and hold on okayyy. 📖 A FMC who is so relatable that you honestly feel that you are the FMC. She lives through some important life issues and reminds you your feelings are valid, normal and you are NOT alone. 📖 2 MMCs that are both just chefs kiss! 📖 Plot twists, through some thrilling journey’s! Leading your heart racing and tears pouring *bloody dust in the air- girl i know*. 📖 An ending that leaves you wanting more. 📖 Emotion, Spice, Realistic Plotting, Captivating Writing.
I honestly could sit here and talk about this book for so long. But i don’t want to spoil it for anyone. If there is 1 book i will be yapping about to all my friends this year - it will be this. For a debut novel, this has far exceeded my expectations. You can feel everything that the author has put into this!
It wouldn’t be an honest review without some ‘negative’. Are there places where i would have loved more, be it context or discussion/scene building - yes. Do i think thats a fault of the book - no. Thats 💯 my need for full information immediately 😂 Are there unanswered questions in the book - yes, but i imagine though the next book follows another MMC it will circle back and address these. So i am not convinced these are really ‘plot holes’.
Releasing May 18! Do yourself a favour- pre order now! ESPECIALLY if you need some emotional damage to get out a fantasy slump - that will put you in a romance slump 😅 YOUR WELCOME!
Tiarne, you did an amazing job and you should be so damn proud of yourself. Thank you, for allowing your journey to produce this book.
Slightly awkward and shy FMC who’s had a tough life, “golden-retriever” type best friend and the broody, mysterious landlord who doesn’t knock before entering her house?! Throw in a cold case and some crazy good tension and you’ve got a winner.
Oh my GOD!!! You Are The Reason will live in my mind rent free until we get the next Darcel House book. Everything about this was perfect, the characters? Stunning. The suspense? I can’t deal. The plot? 10/10. Multiple POV’s? Gorggggg. The SPICE? Don’t even 🥵
Even with the extenuating circumstances of Kinsley’s life she is so relatable! Struggles to make friends, prefers to have her nose in a book and is independent to a fault. The relationship with her best friend Jesse is beautiful, I loved that we got to understand the way both of them feel about one another and it never got weird between them. There was no choosing or situation that happens and ruins their friendship like you see so often in other books. Jesse’s protective nature is beautiful, the way he comes to terms with Kinsley’s choices yet still knows what she needs most is perfect. But TANNER?! Ohh boy hold onto your Kindle cause that man is everything. A little bit mysterious, totally obsessed and fiercely protective of what is his. I loved the small glimpse into his past, but this was totally Kinsley’s book and it’s left the door wide open for the future Darcel House books. I cannot wait to see where T Straatman takes this series, if YATR is only the beginning this is gonna be such a rollercoaster and I’m here for it!

4.5 stars 3 spice This story hit me in a way I wasn't expecting. I thought it would be a nice little romance with the love triangle between the caring best friend and the sexy bad boy and an obvious but satisfying ending. Until I read the authors note at the beginning.... There are elements of the love triangle as we meet our FMC Kinsley who is out on her won and finally feeling like shes getting herself together after a series of traumatic events. Her best friend Jesse who started as her brothers best friend but became hers due to reasons (no spoilers) is loving and kind and the kind of guy we dream our daughters will end up with. Then theres Tanner, the hot landlord we all imagine for ourselves. What I didn't expect is the relationship between the three. The interconnected relationships and dynamics as Kinsley explores her feelings is gripping and i found myself drawn to all of them. This isn't a why choose but the bromance is real. There is a female friendship that all the book girlies will recognise that just feels so authentic and lovely to me. As the book goes on and the plot thickens I could feel my chest tightening as I waited to find out how it would turn out. The emotional climax had me crying so much I couldn't see the words and its been a while since a book hit me that hard. It was a story about closing a cycle but oh boy the feels. I highly recommend this book with the caveat that it may break your heart but you will enjoy. Its the start of an interconnected series so Im excited to see what comes next.
4.5 stars! My heart broke at multiple points whilst reading this book and I'm still thinking about everything that happened. I cannot believe this is a debut novel because Wow.
Our FMC Kinsley has had a life filled with loss, grief, loneliness and depression. My heart went out to this poor girl because she has been left alone and as a result her coping mechanism is to shut everyone else out to keep herself safe. She has impossibly high walls, she keeps things casual and the only person who really knows her is her best friend Jesse who was also friends with her older brother. Kinsley is investigating her families deaths and lets just say it's a lot more dangerous than she could have anticipated.
Tanner is the son of Kinsley's landlord and has also become her way of blowing off steam. He gives off bad boy vibes with all the tattoos, the motorbike and of course the face that is constantly set in a scowl. When things start to get more serious with Kinsley he finds himself joining the investigation into her family and tears down all her carefully constructed walls even when she tries to shut him out.
The secrets, the plot twists and the ending had me hooked to the point where I couldn't put this book down. I will just say the end of the book almost had me in tears because once again it was an emotional rollercoaster that I was not prepared for. I will definitely be continuing with this series!!
This debut novel by T. Straatman will have you wanting more. The first in the Boys of Darcel House series, it is the perfect mix of love, suspense and mystery with a little bit of open door spice sprinkled throughout and will have you guessing right to the very end.
The FMC, Kinsley, is so relatable and real that she feels like a best friend. The 2 MMC’s - Tanner and Jesse - are both equally desirable and will both do anything for Kinsley.
There are some trigger warnings for this novel that you will need to be aware of but it is definitely worth the plunge
I felt a wave of emotions reading this and cannot wait for book 2!!

You Are The Reason by T. Straatman is a captivating blend of romantic suspense and emotional depth. The story follows Kinsley Fallon, a woman haunted by a traumatic past, as she embarks on a journey of self-discovery and healing. Her path intertwines with Tanner, a compelling and protective figure who challenges her to confront her fears and embrace love.
Straatman's writing is both evocative and engaging, drawing readers into a world where vulnerability and strength coexist. The chemistry between Kinsley and Tanner is palpable, making their evolving relationship both heartwarming and intense. The narrative expertly balances moments of tenderness with suspense, keeping readers on the edge of their seats.
This novel is a testament to the power of love and the resilience of the human spirit. It's a must-read for fans of romantic suspense who appreciate well-developed characters and an emotionally charged storyline.
The skeletons are well and truly out of this debut authors wardrobe! We the readers are all the better for it.
As a traumance this read delivers an intense aroma of emotion, as we peel off the layers of past events that have shaped Kinsley 's view of the world and those around her.
This is a particularly poignant read due to the intense relationship bonds between the characters and the lengths they go to protect. Then suddenly without warning you're a wriggling fish on that hook and left dangling!
What was rather cruel was the inclusion of a sweet doggy named Lou Lou who also has trauma of her own to deal with. I'm no crier but a certain scene got my eyes moist and it wasn't smut related..
The story continues with promise of more twists and Tiarne's and I'll be deep diving right into that sweet spot once more 😀
I was very fortunate to be an arc reader for this.
This book had me experiencing emotions I didn’t think were possible after reading a book.
We have two amazing MMCs Tanner and Jesse. Both care for Kinsley like there is no one else in the world. Tanner is your morally grey bad boy, the one you can’t help but want to love. Jesse is the childhood best friend bound by a promise he wants to fulfil.
This book had me up and down like a roller coaster and ready to go outside and contemplate all my life choices. The ending had me crying and wanting to reach for a tub of ice cream to drown my pain.
My stand out quotes from this book:
• “this boy from Darrel House has a few tricks up his sleeve” • “I don’t think Jesse knows it yet but I know he loves her”

I recently finished this captivating read and found it to be quite an enjoyable experience. The story unfolds with simplicity, making it accessible to a wide audience. The language is straightforward yet effective, allowing the narrative to flow smoothly without unnecessary complexity.
One of the standout features of this book is its brilliant ending. It ties together the various plot threads in a way that leaves a lasting impression, providing both closure and a tantalising glimpse into what could come next. I’m already looking forward to the author’s next instalment!
Overall, this book is a delightful read that balances simplicity with depth, making it a worthy addition to any bookshelf. Highly recommended!
You Are The Reason completely blew me away – especially knowing it’s Tiarne’s debut novel. I am so impressed with the writing and her ability to keep the story interesting. The mystery/crime elements added such a great layer of depth to the story and kept me guessing the whole way through.
The characters felt real and their relationships were written so beautifully. I really cared about what happened to them, and there were moments that genuinely broke my heart. It’s one of those books that made me feel everything – and just when I thought I’d recovered, it ended on a cliffhanger! I seriously can’t wait to read more from Tiarne.
This was such a strong debut, and I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for her future books.
Loved this book so much! It made me cry so many times 🥹 This was such an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish, childhood best friends is one of my fav reads! I loved the relationship between kinsley and Jesse and how he’d do absolutely anything to protect her, he looked out for her through thick and thin and it was so sweet watching their relationship unfold. At first I didn’t like tanner but he grew on me with how much he was protective. We love a tattooed up biker 🥹 I also love that this is based in Australia as not many books are. I loved the little suspense and twists and turns regarding her family and the mafia vibes. Overall this was a fantastic read for a debut novel and I can’t wait to see the rest of the series 🫶🏻
Wow! This book actually took me back to my childhood a lot. (Concrete water tanks)
For a debut novel I thought this story was written beautifully, so easy to read. I got so invested in all the characters. It just felt like I was right in there too
We have a 2 MMCs that will do anything for the FMC (not a why choose situation)
A FMC with mental health issues that are so relatable, she is just trying to get answers and won’t rest until she does.
I would just say that I feel like there could have been more said in certain areas of the book to make the scenes a-bit longer and more in depth.. other then that, it was a banger debut novel
T Straatman's debut novel is amazing. Her characters and storyline draw you in, keep you captivated, and totally absorbed in their universe. I loved the complexity of Kinsley and how the author explores her trauma and how she deals with it. I am a bit in love with Tanner and can't wait to learn more about his story. With twists and turns and moments that have you wanting to just reach in and give the characters a big hug or shake them, this book is a great introduction and will leave you wanting to know more. This book is definitely an emotional one and will tug on your emotions. It is addictive. You have been warned
I read this book as an ARC and I was blown away by the writing, plot and swooning of our biker golden retriever MMC who would drop anything to be out our girls side.
as a debut I was so pleasantly surprised by the mental health reps within this story, how smooth the story line was and how in depth the characters were.
I loved relationship between out 2 MCs. who knew the guy that was always there was the one for you. it was such a sweet love story that came with the complications of history and family drama.
this is the type of book I would recommend to anyone and everyone until the day I die! cannot wait for book 2 and 3 and 4 and 100 😂
It took me a little while to fully get into this book, but once I did, I was completely hooked. I’m a sucker for romantic suspense, and this story delivered. My biggest challenge was unraveling the dynamic between the three main characters. It initially felt like a love triangle, which threw me off but once everything clicked, I was all in.
The mental health representation was beautifully done, and it was genuinely heartwarming to see how deeply everyone cared for Kinsley. Jesse and Kinsley’s friendship was one of my favorite aspects. Tanner I’m obsessed with and need more of him.
All in all, this was an impressive debut, and I’m already counting down the days until book two releases!
So when someone warns you that you need something stronger than a wine after reading a book. Believe them!
I started You Are The Reason by @tstraatman.author blind...other than it left Jess in tears. So naturally, I downloaded it.
Well......this book ripped my heart out and stomped on it repeatedly, over and over! 😭
Kinsley was eight, when her father disappeared. Two years later, her brother died in an accident.
There are so many unanswered questions. Now, years later and haunted by her childhood, she can’t piece together. She is determined to find the truth but at a big cost!
OMG, this book was incredible! Such a beautiful story of love, loss and friendship with some suspense. I cannot believe it is a debut novel!
Everything was absolute perfection. The characters, the spice, the plot… I laughed, swooned and cried, all within the same sitting! I could not put it down! Everything about Kinsley, Tanner & Jesse was so relatable and I think I’ll be thinking of them for some time 💕
Very excited to see more of the boys of Darcel house.
Thank you so much the the amazing Tiarne Straatman for an ARC copy of this book 🫶🏼
I could not put this book down. The range of emotions this book took me on was a roller coaster but in those best ways. I laughed, cried, got angry and the suspense of the twists had me on the edge of my seat.
The mental health rep was amazingly written and could be quite raw and honest.
Tanner is an amazing MMC who has that slight dark damaged past but also a touch her and die feels to him.
This was such an amazing first book and I cannot wait for the book 2.
