Dungeon Explorers #2

Dungeon Explorers 2: A Dungeon Academy LitRPG

Rate this book
You know that feeling when everything’s going perfectly, but your gut insists something bad is just around the corner? Yeah, I couldn’t shake it. And I was right.

The Nether infection we thought we destroyed days ago has returned, creeping back into the early floors of the dungeon and catching everyone off guard. The chaos it unleashed didn’t just rattle the Guild—it tore it apart. Old grudges flared, alliances crumbled, and the veterans split into opposing factions.

Unfortunately, I’m stuck right in the middle of it. Now, I have to uncover who’s secretly working with the enemy and figure out where my own alliances truly lie.

Luckily, I’m not facing this alone. My party’s got my back. Together, we’ll get to the bottom of this mess—and maybe even have some fun along the way.

This book was a little bit better written then the first book. The choices of bringing Sophia and Mel to be part of his party was justified and Mel predicament was better explained; why she was with the bandits in the first place and why she had no loyalty to them. In her hometown there was a son of a lord named Leo, who was a sadistic bully and when she refused to marry him he got her basically banished. He also takes an instant dislike to John, the MC. Stormbringer is wanting him to keep a low profile, though I don't know how she even thought that was possible. In the portal room there is a green Portal that you can dial it to take you down to any of the known dungeon levels. There also appears a black portal in the same room that leads to the land that the Nether has infected and is using to infect the dungeon. I don't know how best to explain it, but in order for the Nether to infect this dungeon and this world it has to infect this other realm that is sort of a gateway or barrier to this world. By cleansing this realm causes the Nether to lose influence in the dungeon.
In an earlier dive to the first level of the dungeon it becomes obvious to the group that they will not be able to survive without a healer as a member of the group. They pick up an Druid healer that talks only through her companion crow. The also get offered a fire-mage with healing who is a spoiled noble that they earlier rejected (Sophia is an ice mage and Mel is a rogue). I believe the druid is named Nilan and the mage is named Lina. The group starts to bond together and Sophia goes through a immediate transformation after receiving a letter from her father who is recovering from the elf sickness. Before the letter Sophia was very jealous and gave everyone a dirty look who even look at John as a potential sexual partner. After the letter she does a complete turnaround and wants Mel to share John's bed as well as the other two. Nilan the very spoiled noble seems to easily change her ways as well. This book also starts to utilize the rogue Mel.
For me this book was an enjoyable read, you just need to overlook some features that would make it more complicated. If I could I would give it 4.5 stars as I feel it is not as good as it could be but still a good read.

This book was pretty disappointing. It had a decent concept, but the MC nor any of the harem members resonated with me.

The MC is a blacksmith, and has a woman come into his shop looking to get some sort of black substance off a battle axe. While trying to get rid of it, the MC is given a new class, a Runesmith. And garners the attention of a very famous adventurer. Whisked off to the Guild to learn how to adventure, the MC begins his story.

The MC was pretty boring. Nothing is really explained about his abilities, and not much is explained as far as world building goes. It's like the authors assumed we already knew all of it and just glossed over details that would have made the story more well rounded.

The harem members were bland. There's a lot of behavior that feels like "insta-love" nonsense. The first woman felt drawn to him when she first saw him as she brought the axe in. The second sneaks up as a group that was going to rob them, but she just wanted to warn them. The third never speaks, letting her "familiar" do all the talking. And the fourth comes off as a . The MC has bedded the first two already by the end of the book, with little in the way of romance happening.

I don't see any reason to continue this series.

As usual felt like I read a different book than anyone else who starred it. Barely a 3. The writing is pretty weak, the formatting is wongo, and the sex scenes are more than a little bad. I like the story premise though, and I like that the author doesn't super clutter up the text with stat sheets. It does feel like the needle swung hard the other way from all the stat sheets in the first one though.

It was fine, but it wasn't no 4-5 star book, that's for sure. I think in a couple years this author could be pretty good though.

Also, this book is making 'seed' into my ick word for sex scenes. It's like the author (OP) picked out like five sex words and decided to stick with them. Five of the worst ones. "Member" is the Manchurian trigger word of the day.

Not the strongest thing in the general genre, but not the worst either. There are some elements that don't work very well, specifically the MC not using his special abilities a hell of a lot more than he does. We're possibly looking at a recurring villain situation too, but the next book will show. Reading book 3 will be a day when I've run out of better stuff to read, but I'm not ruling it out.

Harsh and emotionally draining

Really rough path for the main character and his team to follow. I found myself hoping this series would end with this book. However, it did not and I await Book 3. If Book 3 is as painful as the ending to this book, I will not read it to completion.

Fun and full of twists and turns

Fun and engaging story with amazing and colourful characters. An intriguing plot with twists and turns, always keeping you guessing.

It keeps you on the edge of your seat and keeps you guessing who's lying and telling the truth in a dangerous game with the fate of the world on the line.

Definitely looking forward to book 3!
