Avery Waldorf wakes up from a concussion to find a voice inside her head—an adventurous male voice belonging to Marcus, who doesn’t know where he came from, but has an opinion on everything about her life. She just wants to work on her screenplay, go to her writing classes and flirt with the guy of her dreams, Nash, who is finally noticing her. Marcus wants to get up at dawn, run, snowboard, and basically take over her life, and even her body at times. He thinks she’s freaking hot and does not like Nash touching her. Marcus may be smart, talented at snowboarding, drawing and playing the guitar, but he’s not real! When she needs help, she has to call Nash. She can’t tell anyone about Marcus without sounding like she’s crazy. Meanwhile Marcus doesn’t know where he’ll go if he leaves her mind. Maybe she is losing it…

The blurb made this book sound so promising and honestly, the plot was great. But after I finished reading this, it turned out to be a bit of a letdown.

Avery crashed down the mountain while snowboarding. She woke up in a hospital bed, hearing the man's voice in her head. She found that he knew little about himself, only his name was Marcus and he knew what he liked, but didn't know where he came from. As he was stuck in her head, Avery tried to figure out whether she suffered from temporary schizophrenia from her concussion or if Marcus was real. They were both unhappy but they had no choice except to roll with it, until she could find out who he was. It didn't take long for them to get to know each other, and of course, they finally fell in love even though they never actually met in person. Quite strange, but OK, it could happen.

The story wasn't all that bad, for the most part, and I found myself smiling and laughing at times. However, I enjoyed how Avery and Nash developed their love relationship rather than the conversations between Avery and Marcus (in her head).

Overall, this book wasn't great, but wasn't bad either. At least I got it as a freebie.

4 YOU- CAN'T-JUST-END-IT-THERE STARS!!

I was totally engrossed with this book. I finished it in under 3 hours. Those 3 hours are definitely worth it.

The premise has a movie like quality to it. I kinda know what will happen in the end, but I held on because reading it all throughout is satisfying.

Imagine someone being inside your head 24/7. Imagine liking the person and feeling so frustrated because you don't even know whether he's real or not. That's Avery's life here. Marcus enters her head, guns blazing... or should I say sweetness blazing. I swear he's just a total charmer! Ave didn't stand a chance! However, attractions aside, they both had to cope with a lot of things. They go through trials and become sort of together.

I love all of their interactions. They're hilarious! Marcus could be all alpha male and throw punches for Avery, then Avery could be like I-don't-like-you-but-really-i-do-i-do.

Then there are the other characters. I guess I'm not crazy about Avery's friends. Her interactions with them mostly felt forced. I just like Jazz and Jen and Jen wasn't even part of the circle.

Anyway, when the ending came, I was shocked that it felt incomplete. It was too fast! I want to see their first true meeting as a couple. I want to see what they'll do after this magical event. I also want to know what happened to her friends.

On that note, I leave this with my 4 star rating!

I love, love, love this book. I was skeptical on reading it, since it was a kindle freebie and there were so little reviews. Despite there being so little review on both Amazon and Goodreads, everybody seemed to love it. So I had to see what was so great about it.

And it was SPECTACULAR. Marcus, oh my stars! I love him. He was funny, sweet, swoon-worthy, and was a great guy.
I loved Marcus, Avery, Jazz, and Nash. I didn't like Kristen or Kyle. Kyle can go to hell, and Kristen can totally win the award for a terrible friend.

I think the ending was too abrupt and that there were too many loose ends that weren't solved--but overall, I really liked it. I liked the premise/plot of the story. I like how refreshing Avery was as a main character. I liked how hilarious the situations Avery gets herself into because Marcus can be quite bossy at times.

Overall, I would totally recommend this book.

I loved this one!!! It`s hilarious! I laughed from start to finish and could not put it down!
Marcus is a sweetheart and you fall in love with him without knowing who he is or what he looks like.
And it's amazing how erotic a scene can be when two people can`t actually hold or touch each other
Love it!

Oh! and for those who got mad at the abrupt end, apparently Kristen is writing a follow up. There's the first chapter of that on her website and I think next year we'll get book 2..

Now we wait...

I’m sure every girl has dreamed of a guy who could read her mind … well here he is, ladies.

College student Avery Waldorf suffers concussion during a snowboarding accident. When she wakes up, there is someone else inside her head with her. A voice from who knows where, as confused and indignant as she is with the bizarre situation. A voice that turns out to named Marcus, with a strong personality and an appreciative eye for the ladies. The story revolves round Avery’s growing relationship with the disembodied but very vocal visitor and their efforts to firstly get some sort of ‘working relationship’ going, and secondly to discover who he is.

I really enjoyed this book. It is a reasonably unusual premise, and very well carried through. The development of Marcus’s character, the well-timed exposition of the various discoveries Avery makes about her mystery mind guest, their developing friendship, is really engagingly carried through. The story unfolds very naturally and certainly had me hooked very early.

The meeting of minds and the friendship that grows as they get used to each other and become more involved in each other’s thoughts, is very romantic, counterbalanced by a great deal of humour as Avery manages Marcus’s increasingly overt appreciation of her assets. He is a very physical, sporty, footloose kinda guy and she is a bit more of a thinker, and they have to work out compromises that work for both of them.

There is a bit of sensual touchy feely stuff, which is quite an achievement really, as the guy doesn’t have hands – not his own anyway. But in the context it is very romantic, not gratuitous, works well and is part of the story. In fact there is rather a good, healthy tone about girls and first relationships and I liked very much the delicate handling of Avery’s shame over an earlier incident with a former boyfriend. Marcus’s sensitivity to Avery’s reticence about physical intimacy (is modesty too old fashioned a word to use?) despite his ‘jock’ persona is very appealing. He is a very cool dude.

Lovely likeable central characters, with nicely three dimensional, interesting personalities. The dialogue is sparkling when it should be, and other times hits the right emotional notes. Side story threads of the minor characters are well held together and don’t mess with the good pacing. Every aspect is geared towards moving that plot forward to its resolution. It is well written and a good clean edit; altogether a nice piece of work structurally.

My only minor quibble, and it seems to be a quite common one with contemporary romances, is that it ends too suddenly. In the space of a few pages, the mystery is unravelled and resolved. I prefer to float slowly back to earth during the denouement rather than descend with a jolt, and the end felt a bit too rushed. But maybe that’s just because I am a phenomenally fast reader!

I am not one for series, and usually I like an HEA with loose ends nicely tied off. However, I was quite expecting a cliff hanger at the end, and there was justification for a sequel. If you read it you will see why, but if I tell you it would be a spoiler. I would have paid good money for a sequel, too, because I liked this one so much.

I really LOVED this book! I have always enjoyed books and movies about switching bodies (Freaky Friday, It's A Boy Girl Thing, etc.) - this book is kind of similar. Except instead of a switch, it is two minds in one body.
Avery wakes up from an accident with the voice of a guy in her head - he does not know really anything about himself other than his name. Over time, Ave and Marcus talk and get to know one another. Life becomes so awkward for her.
The interactions between Ave and Marcus are just great. The thing about having someone in your head is that you can't really hide anything from them. Things with them are genuine and real.
I also appreciated all the pop culture references (it is actually rare that I get to read a book that has just been released that year).
This story was just FANTASTIC! It will be one I remember and talk about for a long time.

*I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads.

This is another incredible book from Kristen James. It's different from her other books or anything else I've read lately. It's so refreshing to read something so different. The suspense continued through the whole book and I love the dialog between the characters. I highly recommend this book. I anxiously await the next book from this great author.

All in My Head was an interesting idea, but the execution wasn't my favorite. I didn't really see the connections between the characters and it just wasn't as good as I had hoped it would be.

Avery has a snowboarding accident and wakes up from a concussion to find that she is hearing a voice in her head. The voice of Marcus. Marcus who doesn't remember anything about himself. He is quite opinionated right from the start about Avery and her life. Marcus is a doer, an adventure seeker. He is always doing something so being stuck in her head is killing him. Especially when she lazes around.

For her part Avery is not really sure what to think of Marcus. Is he a real person? Is she just crazy? Did she make him up? He doesn't seem to think so, and he knows how to do things she doesn't, can make her do things she doesn't know how to, so eventually she admits that he is not just in her head. Only they don't know where he might be or why he is there.

I really like the idea behind this story, but the execution wasn't my favorite. Marcus was like instantly in love with Avery and I am not sure why. He was instantly jealous of other guys, of Avery wanting to spend time with Nash (finally!), and so he made it hard on her. For as much as he was in her head and could hear her thoughts and everything I never felt like they really got to know each other. Only surface level stuff which...I just expected more. Especially since he is in her head. At some point Avery goes from wanting Marcus out of her head to wanting him to stay. Again not sure why she built this fondness for him. I didn't see it through the interactions they had. It just was alright.

Also Avery's "friends" are wonderful. They leave her at the hospital, then you find that her one friend/roommate is dating her jerk ex. It was just all a mess. They don't seem to really care about each other and are just superficial nice when they are supposed to be bff. It just didn't work that well for me.

The end was alright. I would be curious to read more and see what happens after the ending. I think that has the potential to be better than this in her head story.

Well, thank goodness this isn't really a cliffhanger. There's an HFM and a teaser for a sequel for this year, so let's hope there's an HEA for these two.

I read this under the title "All in My Head" so I hope I'm reviewing the right book.

This has a STRONG mystical, paranormal element to it, and I don't always love that, but it works if you keep reminding yourself that this is FICTION. Avery is in a snowboarding accident, gets a concussion and wakes up with an extra voice in her head. A male voice. So she wrestles with whether or not she's gone crazy, who this voice is, why he sounds like a relatively normal guy and what sounds like a bunch of idiot female roommates, a ex of a boyfriend who's a d-bag, a BFF who's not really a BFF and a guy who has liked her but is guarded.

Remembering that this is a NA book, Avery makes a lot of really sad choices. She's an awful liar and feels the need to talk to him out loud and can't really cover it up well. She's confused since she starts to fall for the voice but has no idea who he is. She just seems stuck.

I think I would have preferred a chapter between Avery and her friends and their relationship before the accident. I think she tries too hard to fit in and I can't tell if that's really her, in defiance of Marcus or what. Then again, it's hard to explain college student behavior under the best of circumstances.

Spoiler: The ending is quite emotional, as we learn who the voice in her head is (he's real! and cute!) and whether or not he's alive or dead (coma! but with wishes to pull the plug! oh no!) and how she might have to live with someone else she loves dying. Possibly.

This held my interest enough to want a sequel -- and soon!

I received an ARC from the author for an honest review!!
Wow!! This book blew me away, it gripped me from the start... With such lovable characters....
We meet Avery, after an accident on the slopes, she ends up with concussion and starts to her a voice in her head... His name is Marcus... Not sure of what's happening to her, she tries to ignore it... But soon enough, it's apparent she can't ignore the beautiful voice.... Kristen James takes you on a journey, I will warn you, you need tissues...
This story is written beautifully, bringing out all sorts of emotions.... I laughed, cried and at a few points was shouting "what the hell you doing"!!! I can't wait to read more from this awesome author!!!

Given To Me For An Honest Review

Kristen James has really done it and it's fantastic! This book is about Avery who has an accident snowboarding and ends up with a concussion. When she wakes up she has Marcus with her ..24/7 and he's in her head. The antics and things that play out between them is something else. There is great dialog between the two and Kristen keeps the suspense going on throughout the entire story until the end. It's a real fun book to read. It's a page turner, a read in one sitting, not a must read but a HAVE TO READ. I gave this book 5 stars but it really needs 10+ .. I look forward to reading more books from Kristen James. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

I really enjoyed this book. Different then anything I was reading at the current time.

Avery and Marcus go through a crazy ride. I love the different experiences that they have together. It kills me at the end but I won't give it away. I would love to see more of Marcus and Avery.

It was definitely not your usual romance. I suggest everyone go and read this book.

It's got laughs it's got cries it's got what the F it's got everything for you. :-)

This was truly one of those cliché “you can’t judge a book by it’s cover” experiences. I absolutely loved the story and found it to be funny. I thought the editors may not have been as consistent as towards the end of the book I started spotting spelling errors and a few repeated words (not enough for me to remove more than 1 star).

Also I thought the ending was a little rushed, I feel there was unnecessary fluff in the middle that could have been replaced with better closure at the end. All in all a very fun read!

Sitting here crying

OMG.. I love this book. Emotional rollercoaster for sure but also so sweet. I was going through my Kindle books and found this book that I had downloaded in 2016. And after reading what is was about, I just had to stop going over books and read this. I read this in one sitting and I loved it so much. I'm not going to tell you the story, just that you need to be open to a little different story than the usual romance. Read it, you will not regret it.

What an interesting read and premise. Flowed well and loved Avery and Marcus, though I would have liked Avery to have more backbone when her jerk of an ex made moves on her. Ah yes, she's only twenty, and was finally growing it by the end. A satisfying read and kept reader attention.

I must listen to my sister when she tells me to read a book

All In My Head gave me all the feels. I loved it completely even when I got mad and wanted to hit someone. This book is funny and sweet and I don't know how is possible but Marcus says "babe" very different than any other book boyfriend. I must accept that I had to fight laughter during class and battle against some tears. So Avery is a college student that got in an accident and somehow after she hears a voice in her head, which wouldn't be too bad if it didn't want to run her life.

I couldn't stop thinking about this story, I tried to read everywhere I could, all I wanted was MORE MORE MORE MORE!!!!! JUST GIVE ME MORE and let me be happy with these characters. I got a little surprised by the end of this book and I enjoyed it a lot, and I know there is so much more I can learn from them. I need to read the sequel, because Marcus and Avery's journey is not over and dare I say that it just started and I want to go along with them.

"You’re my little Tiger Lily."

I didn't like that Avery didn't stand up for herself but by the end I understood why she felt like she couldn't do it.

Surprised at how much I loved it

Ok so Avery wakes up from a concussion with Marcus in her head.

I loved this book so much! I'm actually kind of surprised. I loved watching their relationship develop and how they dealt with it. There were several times when I was super frustrated with Avery, but that's probably because I would have been just as upset and frustrated as she was. Marcus was totally amazing and perfect. I loved him as the hero of the book. I really appreciated the scenes the author included in the book where Marcus lived some of Avery's terrible experiences. It was nice to watch Marcus be protective and horrified by the behavior of the other men in Avery's life. I also liked those scenes because it made Avery very relatable and understandable as a character.

I only gave the book four stars because I felt like it left some issues unresolved. I wish it had a little epilogue or a sequel to see how Avery dealt with some of the issues with her friends. I would also love to see Avery and Marcus together as a real couple and not just conversations inside her head.

There is language in this book, but there is no actual sex. Although they do talk about it quite a bit.

What a fun book and very original.

Avery wakes up with a concussion after a fall. Suddenly she hears a voice, a male voice, in her head. Marcus is the name of the 'voice' and Avery at first thinks there is something really wrong with her. Marcus is with her all the time, comments on her love life, learns to use her hands to draw and play the guitar... and they slowly fall in love.

I read the book in a couple of hours as it was entertaining, well written and also funny sometimes. Having Marcus in her head is mostly very fatal to her budding love life with Nash, as Marcus is very vocal and also jealous.

The thing I did not like was the whole 'Nash-thing actually. I could not understand why Avery would let herself be pressured into some things like going to the beachhouse. But then, I totally liked Marcus's reactions.

The ending was quite emotional. It was not an unexpected twist, I somehow knew beforehand. I will not spoil it. Plus the final ending was really abrupt (no epilogue) so I immediately went to the autor's website to see if she had written something like an extra novella, an epilogue. And YES: she is writing a sequel!

I'm sorry, but someone has to say it!!! THAT'S IT REALLY???? Omg the lead up to them finding each other is great and I couldn't wait until they were reunited and were able to hold each other, kiss, really look into each others eyes and do everything they talked about doing and all I got was a "I don't know who you are" and then a "I love you" the end. Seriously wtf! I need a follow up, a novella something. Threw a girl a bone here. Yes, the story was really good, but it doesn't feel finished and that drives me absolutely insane. What happen with here relationship with Kristina. Does Jazz realize she wasn't bat shit crazy. There is so much left unwritten.
I would still recommend this book, but with a warning that it does feel like there should be more.

It's so rare when you feel a book by your soul. This is one of those. I enjoyed it so much. I liked the communication between Ave and Marcus, they are pure fun. They feel each other, it's so good when you can do this with another person who care. I would like to have such easyness in communication in real life. This book is different, it's something new for me, it's refreshing and it was real pleasure to read it. I would like to thank the author for this wonderful story about love... And I'm waiting for the next book, because this end wasn't enough for me. I was glad to read the epilogue and at the same time the first chapter from the next book "In my Dreams".

This is a really unique story, and I enjoyed it a lot! There is a bit of a triangle for a while - the boy Avery's liked all year finally notices her & is giving out interested signals, and she's got Marcus in her head! The way each character is written is done pretty well. I love the banter between Avery & Marcus!

I did have a couple issues - there are a couple plots that end rather abruptly, as well as the ending to the story itself being really abrupt. If there had been one more chapter extending the ending, giving us a little detail on what happens NEXT, this would have been a 5 star read for me. : )

This is a new adult romance with a twist. Avery wakes up from a concussion with a voice in her head. Marcus doesn't know how he got there but he doesn't want to be there. He has a real life somewhere, he just can't remember it. Avery tries to go on with her life like normal, but having Marcus in her head makes things difficult. Especially dating. Things get particularly complicated when she starts wishing she could date Marcus. They both struggle with the fact that he only exists inside her head. This is different and I really liked it. I wished there was more, though. It seemed to end just a bit too soon. A satisfying read anyway. Apparently there is a sequel in the works. Can't wait!

Really great

Ever wonder what happens in the mind of someone who has a concussion or is in a coma? Ever wonder if they hear everything? In this story Avery has a skiing accident and ends up in the hospital with a concussion. Marcus is a famous snowboarder who is in a coma but when Avery awakes from her concussion, the voice of Marcus is in her head, which leads her to believe she's gone crazy. There's great banter between the two, they share personal experiences and are drawn to each other but how can Avery be falling for a guy who's only in her head? Awesome story!!

Loved it!

There are times you read a book and you don't want it to end, because you know you will have a hard time finding something like it again. This is how I felt with this book, thus is the first book from this author and it will not be the last. Drama, romance, some mystery, throw in voices in your head and you have an amazing book. The relationship between Marcus and Avery was funny, sweet and sometimes you wanted to scream at both of them to hurry up and get it right. A thrilling ride that will stay with me for quite some time.

Just wow

I just devoured this book. It's 2am, I'm exhausted (more emotionally than physically) and I can't stop stalking Kristen James and finding out everything I can about the next book. Because OMG, I'm so in love. This genre tends to recycle the same storyline again and again, and All In My Head was just the breath of fresh air I was looking for. I'm not going to rehash the storyline, because the blurb gives you enough. Just read it. One click RIGHT NOW and read this book immediately. I absolutely cannot wait to see what comes next for these two.
