This is exactly what the title says it is: a book review. If you are expecting some level of intelligent criticism, though, prepare to be disappointed. This has more in common with a high school book review than any literary review. Chapter summaries and rather elemental statements such as 'family and love are the most important thing' (paraphrase), fill the pages of this slim book. Not worth the time to read it, and I'm not sure why the author bothered to write it.

I loved it, of course, but tell me there is going to be another book forthcoming! Gabaldon can't leave us hanging. There are too many unanswered questions! And please don't wait so long!

I think this is the best of the more recent books.

I’ve admired Diana Gabaldon’s ability to create characters that you care about from book to book... this is the eighth book in the “Outlander” series. However, the story of Jamie and Claire Fraser is losing some of its allure. There was far too much detail regarding Claire’s medical practice; so much so that the book read at times like a medical journal, with the description of surgical procedures serving as filler more than advancing the narrative. Additionally, their involvement in the American Revolution lacks the magnetism of events in Scotland which first drew readers into the series, while time travel itself is becoming repetitive. Diana Gabaldon has enjoyed great success with this saga, but she needs to wrap it up.

I can't get enough of Diana's Outlander series. When I'm not reading, I want to know what's going on in Claire and Jamie's lives. This book had twists and turns at every turn. The loyalists and rebels clash throughout the book. Brianna and Roger have their hands full in the present. The allure of gold in the past presents problems for their family. I can't wait for Book # 9!

I purchased this book over a year ago, and it sat on my shelf. I was unable to read it because I'm not sure I was ready to read the last book of the series. The time was finally right, and I was entirely captured after the first paragraph. Because of my angst, I have to admit that I did read the last page first, so I knew the family was reunited, but not how. This book is wonderful, and it answers a lot of questions, or at least makes many conclusions from previous books and events. It unites events and characters from the past, and answers questions, or gives back good memories, and just seems to settle events for the reader. I think one of the most startling aspects of this book is that in my estimation, Diana finally shows the human side of her characters. All of the characters have survived what I call super-human events, tragedies, and triumphs. I often wondered how they could go on, and how they survived. I think in this novel, she shows that it was truly difficult and at times, nearly impossible for them. There is great emotion in all of her books, but this novel had the best. I really enjoyed the switch from Jamie and Claire to Roger and Brianna, too. That really keeps you turning pages. My one and only disappointment was that Diana didn't return to Roger and Brianna and describe how or when they chose to return to the 1770's. Is this the last book? Only Diana knows. I know that is was a wonderful story, one that will last my lifetime, and one that could go on.

If you are an Outlander fan, you should enjoy this book. It takes place in Philadelphia, Savannah, and the upcountry of NC during the Revolutionary War. The only issue I have with the book is that it leaves so many conflicts unresolved, which of course means there will be another book. That I am happy about. The fact that I was left hanging with so many unresolved issues at the end of this one was somewhat disconcerting, however.

I checked out this book in audio form from my library. Unfortunately, I only got to (chapter 78-audio chapters) before it had to be returned. Now it is on my "hold" list to recheck it out. Can't wait to resume!

This has taken ages to read because it is so big - too heavy to carry around!

It is the latest Outlander, and helped keep the story/ies going; however, I could not see one of the deaths was needed.

It will not stop me watching for any more, though.

An enjoyable read as always; perhaps a bit too much battle history for me. Is this the end of the series?
