In the latest Sugarland Blue novel, Detective Tonio Salvatore always puts his job first—until a beautiful piece of trouble has him questioning the rules he’s sworn to live by…
Tonio knows that loneliness is the price he has to pay to avoid being hurt again. But the strictly by-the-book cop never expected to be blindsided by a woman who pulls him right out of his self-imposed isolation.
Angel Silva isn’t just from the wrong side of the tracks—she’s on the wrong side of the law. She’s desperate to break free from her dangerous brother and his gang, but when a sexy new recruit joins them, Angel is more trapped than ever—because the ruthless Tonio Reyes isn’t what he seems. When she discovers the man she’s falling for is one of Sugarland’s finest, she’s forced to go on the run.
Instead of taking Angel into custody, Tonio finds himself risking his career to keep her safe. And as the beautiful woman tears down all his defenses, Tonio realizes he’ll risk his very life to set her free.

REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: On the Run: A Sugarland Blue Novel by Jo Davis http://wp.me/p3d0RZ-2hT Publication Date: April 7, 2015 Reviewed by: Reading in Pajamas/ Donna Rated: 4.5 Stars
REVIEW: Wow! What a roller-coaster ride! There were times I found myself chewing my fingernails at the rapid paced action. Thankfully that was tempered by the hot romance going on between Angel and Tonio or I would have gone up in flames. This was a well written gritty romantic suspense novel with the perfect bad guy and the perfect couple. Of course the Sugarland Blue crew is there and once again convey the feeling that they have worked and cared about each other for years. Those are the kind of ensemble based novels I love the best. Well done except that now I have to wait for the next installment.

Like the books before it, On the Run is so good! I really loved it. I love the way Davis creates characters that are so flawed, yet hero's or heroine's at the same time. They feel real!
I was so looking forward to Tonio's story. He's the type of characters that draws you to him, you want to know more about him and oh boy did we learn a ton. He's such a good, sweet person. He'd need someone really special to be his match!
At first I was sure if Angel was going to be that person but quickly figured out that they are perfect together. Even with her crap childhood she's really a good person herself.
Together they have to fight for what's right, and they do just that with so many bumps in their roads. From the first page you'll be hooked and not want to put it down. You also get a brief visit from Howard which for you guys might not mean anything but for me means a lot.
Love Howard!
You also get a glimpse to what's going on with Clay. Some good news, and some not so good. We still have to worry some about him.
Typical Davis fare, but I did enjoy Tonio and Angel's story. Her brother, Rab, was seriously messed up, resulting in some disturbing scenes.
Davis showed great attention to detail when an undercover Tonio, who is originally from San Antonio, was about to steal from a Nashville star. Or as Tonio put it, the biggest country singer since George Strait.
Jo Davis knows how to write suspense and she has a knack for getting into the heads of the guys and gals in blue. The Sugarland Blue series continues with Davis' latest book, On the Run. Readers who are looking for a great romantic suspense series, featuring the police will love this one. You get the gritty, raw stories from the street, but you also get the loyalty and unity of the squad. This book is a great combination of love and war, as Tonio goes undercover and finds that he might have gone from the frying pan to the fire when he falls for the bad guys, sister! Explosive...
On the Run continues the story of Sugarland's finest and Jo Davis is at her best when she lets the story lead her. My one peeve about this whole book happens on the very first page. The prologue is really the end instead of the beginning. Then readers go back in time and get the rest of the story. I didn't need to know how it ended. It's a romantic suspense novel, I was already clued in and thought this was unnecessary and it took a little bit of the edge away from the story. It wasn't a deal breaker, but to happen at the very start of the book, made it a little disappointing.
Davis is always a great author though, and the story itself went a long way toward redeeming itself. Having read about Tonio in previous books in the series, I knew his story would be intense. He is just the sort of guy who would find the good in just about any situation and he finds the good beneath the harsh demeanor and circumstances surrounding Angel. He's undercover, and he doesn't need to get too close, but he just can't help himself. Tonio was a great character and I thought Davis did a great job of making this story about him believable. Not many cops would fall for the enemy and I liked that take on the situation.
Angel was not in a good place, but as a reader and in real life, I know that sometimes it takes the love of a good man or woman to turn someone around and Davis obviously knew this too. You put one hard nosed cop up against a hard nosed perp and you get a really intense relationship, inside and outside the bedroom. Angel was just what Tonio needed. But she was in trouble and he was bound and determined to protect her. He took protect and serve seriously and it really worked in this book.
Jo Davis is always great at making her books flow naturally. I didn't get the feeling that anything she wrote in this book was just for show or filler. Everything had a purpose. Every scene was well thought out, even the romance scenes which were really hot, by the way. I liked the fact that previous characters were important in this one and that the Sugarland crew was once again there for each other and for Angel. Great storytelling.
Bottom Line:
A lot of action, a lot of intensity and plenty of hot loving! This book is a very good addition to the series, but I did not like the prologue. The end was literally at the beginning. I don't like the back tracking thing. It's a romantic suspense book, we know what is going to happen in a sense, but we don't need it spelled out for us. Beyond that pet peeve it was a good book.
After being left at the altar, and his intended running off with his best friend, Sugarland police officer, Tonio Salvatore, doesn’t get involved in sticky romances. It’s the only way to protect his heart. But he has nothing against random hookups!
One of those hookups gets him right into the inner circle of Rab Silva and his gang that all the nearby police departments have been trying to lock up. Now he’s going undercover to find something on Rab that he can’t slither out of! But he never expected Rab to have such a stunning sister!
But when Tonio’s cover is blown will he get himself and Angel out alive?
This was an enjoyable read that was able to maintain my interest throughout. You can’t help, but feel for Tonio and the way he was betrayed by his best friend and ex-fiancé. But yet he still feels the guilt of what happened to them.
Angel was a strong female lead, the perfect match for her brave sexy cop! I enjoyed watching her fall for Tonio, even when she thought he was another thug. But of course, it was even better when she discovered the truth!
There were a few things I found to be a bit unbelievable. Like both Tonio and Rab pocketing their used condoms at one point. Can you saw ewww? I also found it hard to accept that the police captain needed someone to call 911 for him … wouldn’t he have his own radio to call it in? To say nothing of a law-abiding police officer having sex in public!
But overall this was a decent addition to the series and I look forward to seeing what’s up next in Sugarland!

Jo Davis’s Sugarland Blue series continues with another scorcher in On the Run starring the elusive Tonio Salvatore and Angel Silva. Tonio is an undercover cop trying to bust up a ring of criminals and Angel is the girl caught up in the middle of the ring Tonio is trying to break up.
Jo Davis writes a great romantic suspense, and this was no different. I enjoyed getting to know Tonio in this story, and was amazed by his strength and dedication to his job and the people he loved. Angel is a girl caught up in her brother’s messes, and one the one hand I felt bad for her, but on the other hand I felt like she made her own bed by allowing her brother to manipulate her. Despite that, I enjoyed how she tried to get herself out the situation after she met Tonio, and their chemistry was amazing. In true Jo Davis fashion there is plenty of action, suspense, and heat so I would highly recommend it!
NUMBER OF HEARTS: 3 1/2 REVIEW: As always Ms. Davis takes us on a wild journey of ups and downs. But there was something off on this story for me. I can’t say the story was not good because it was. I just personally felt a little discounted to the characters. I have loved Tonio in the prior stories was really excited to read his story. So I can’t really put my finger on the discount, but I do believe it was all me. I plan on re-reading On the Run when I personally am in a better mind frame.

This one was a bit different form others in the series, mostly because the other characters weren't around a lot. I think part of this is because Tonio was undercover and had to be careful who he was around.
I did find it funny how Tonio stumbled into the undercover and the woman he spent time with. I expected later there to be trouble for Tonio for the time he spent with the woman, but it didn't happen. Instead Tonio moved forward with Angel right from the start. The only trouble came from Rab. It seemed like things were going well there, that Rab was going to be easily caught. But at the last minute Rab proved how horrible he was. I was glad that he was finally caught and that it was due to someone close to him.
I enjoyed it, even though I personally dislike books that start at the end and then the next chapter is "three weeks earlier..." You spend the whole book trying to catch-up to what you read in the prologue. In this case, it was something bad, so I read the entire book with a black cloud hanging over my head.
I have read Jo Davis before, but not this series. Technically I'd give this a 3 1/2, though it was good, it wasn't great. I don't mind a little angst in my heroes, but sometimes, Tonio seemed a little too angsty. So, he teetered back and forth between alpha bad ass to angsty guy. It was a little jarring at times. But, a steamy good read, nonetheless.
In order to bring down the leader of a crime ring, Tonio has to go undercover. He's fully prepared to do whatever it takes to crack this case, what he doesn't plan for is falling for the boss' sister Angel. He knows he's playing with fire, but getting burned is well worth the risk.
Excellent book! I highly recommend the entire Sugarland Blues series and if you haven't read the Firefighters of Station Five series, also by Jo Davis, you definitely should.
