Two people wanting to change... one, a stock car racer...the other, an everyday person who has been told she is too predictable and safe...

He is being manipulated by sponsors to pretend to clean up his act through a bogus retirement...settle down... be the clean cut driver for a change...

She had a realization she was living in fear and actually boring... she was being passed over at work because she cared too much always doing the right thing... She decided to make a change; be adventurous... try out blogging and use her talent as a photojournalist...and she is off to see the country.

He is at his farm, counting the days till he can get back into racing... but nothing seems to be going the way he wants... until an old friend from his Daytona time comes by... Our gal...who has decided to see if her ole racing buddy would help her with interviews and photos for her blog...

Circumstances happen causing them to do a fake-real marriage... it will help him and he will show her how not to be boring...and with the natural chemistry happening anyway... what could go wrong...

What happens is both of them learn a thing or two about risking, loving and being brave. This had sweetness and charm... and the reminder .... in life you just need to go for it sometimes....

The days of living fast and free are costing Stock car driver Brody Palmer the patience of his advisors, the endorsements that used to fall in his lap and an even greater coup for his career. The days of being a playboy have come back to haunt him. Brody is in need of an image overhaul. Hmm, how to accomplish this….how about faking his retirement, as well as his settling down to monogamous bliss? Ahh, those tricky Image Spinners.

At the same time, Hannah Morgan has hidden behind her precious camera, living vicariously through the pictures she takes, but even her photos are losing their soul. Even the perfect photo ops are flawed. She decides it’s time to get in front of the cameras of life and actually live it, in full living color, with flare and style, who knows, maybe she can capture the right angle on Brody. What better way to do that than to fake a relationship with Mr. Hotness on Wheels? A no, strings attached, “we-are -not-friends-but-we-have-all-of-the- benefits-of-lovers” kind of deal to benefit them both. By day they are the perfect couple, but when the lights go out, the sirens come out to play!

Like your sizzle with a side of sweet? Samantha Hunter steams up the pages with Rock Solid and makes it fun, fantastic and flammable at the same time. Two well-drawn characters, one deviously mischievous plot, and the sexual tension is bursting out in flames as these two ignore the caution flag pointing to love.

My Review:
I was in the mood for a sports romance book and was searching my tbr pile at home when I remembered I had this book in my review pile. This one definitely fit the bill for what I was hoping for.

Brody is a stock car driver. Yes, he has quite a bad-boy reputation because he plays hard, but he has a good heart. It was his good heart that landed him in this current problem...and now his sponsor is ready to completely drop him. He has a year of "retirement" to get his act together or else he will be REALLY retired.

Hannah has had her own change-of-life moment. She's always been a boring accountant, but in a moment of madness, quit her job. Now she's out on the road trying to make a life and find herself through her adventure blog.

Brody and Hannah were hot and heavy for an amazing month a year ago. It was good, but both of them knew it was a temporary thing. But they are both still best friends with another racing couple who help to bring the two back together...because Brody isn't dealing well with retirement. He's hurt and depressed, so they push Hannah to go check on him. The two fall into a relationship which quickly morphs into a fake engagement...that turns out to not be quite so fake.

I really, really liked this book. Brody is a thrill-seeker and Hannah is one too...she's just a worrier too. Brody is teaching her to override that instinct. Following their adventures was like a roller coaster ride and I loved every minute of it. I loved the horse farm setting. I liked the twist of Hannah's adventure blog and her photojournalism. I enjoyed the story line with Brody's nephew and the street races. Every single little thing in this book worked for me and it worked for me well. I'm definitely looking forward to reading more from Samantha Hunter because this one was great!

This charming story is about Brody Palmer, a race car driver who is trying to improve his image. He’s a successful driver but bad publicity from his wild playboy lifestyle, keeps getting him into trouble. After Brody’s latest escapade, his sponsor asks him to retire for a year and find a nice girl to help restore his public image. Brody likes living life on the edge. He likes fast cars and women and he’s upset his sponsor is forcing him to change his lifestyle.

Hannah Morgan is an accountant and risk averse. Even her former boss told her she was too cautious. When Hannah wasn’t given a promotion she felt she deserved, she quit her job and is now driving around the country writing a blog about her trip. For the first time in her life, Hannah is taking a chance and while she finds it exhilarating, she’s also feeling nervous and scared by her bold move.

A year ago, Brody and Hannah dated for a short time and then amicably parted ways. Even though they haven’t seen each other in a year, on a whim, Hannah decides to visit Brody. When they see each other again there’s still a strong attraction simmering between them and Hannah decides to pretend to be Brody’s girlfriend to help his career.

I enjoyed reading this heartwarming story. While trying to convince everyone they are a couple, Brody and Hannah discovers one lie only leads to another. They are both dealing with different issues and trying to make constructive changes in their lives and evolve into better people. They help each other along the way. Brody’s a good guy. He’s never been interested in settling down, but the more time he spends with Hannah, he wonders if should change his ways.

This novel was a joy to read. Hunter portrayed the world of fame & the tabloids in a manner that really makes you stop and think about it. At the same time she tells an at times comical romantic story that kept me coming back for more. Her upbeat writing style combined with this unique & catchy plot to create a whole that definitely appealed to me. She not only captured my imagination with her romance but also hooked my emotions. Her characters put it all on the line, drawing me in.

The characters in this novel were quite intriguing. I enjoyed seeing them overcome their preconceived notions to come to grips with the realities that they were facing. I enjoyed how they stood up to each other, their personalities sparking off of one another, all the while their affection and joy in each other shone through. The natural & in depth dialogue between the characters really enhances the story. Hunter doesn’t simply rely on narrative to tell her story, but on actual conversations between the characters where their deepest secrets & desires are revealed.

This was a captivating, enjoyable novel that was a joy to read. It is definitely one that should make its way into the libraries of all romance lovers.

I found this book very intriguing Brody thought he had everything. Always looking out for others because his reputation could take it. Only this last time it didn't matter sponsors wanted him to change or they were out. Cause the media ran with the story even though he was inosent. That didn't matter because he had to change his image. Bring in Hanna who was a beautiful well put together woman who Brody was with briefly. But this girl stood out more than the rest and she always carried a special place in her heart for him. But she is trying to change her image also. She shows up to find herself literally in the arms of this man again and what do think happens. Well for one I am not telling but this story to me had two people trying to find out who they are. This author did a great job can't wait to read more from them. Thank you for letting me review netgally and author also publisher. This is the story of a charming bad boy who races cars for a living. When he pulls another stunt in a long line of them his sponsor tells him he’s going to take a break from the limelight and race cars, something Brody is loath to do.
Then Brody meets a former girlfriend Hannah. As they try to put Brody’s life back on track both of them realize that Brody is really a good guy and just needs to change how he is perceived in public.
This was such fun to read. I always like seeing a bad boy redeemed and to have him fall in love with someone who has his back is icing on the cake. Highly recommended.

ROCK SOLID

Opposites ignite…
Champion stock car driver Brody Palmer's bad-boy reputation has forced him into early retirement. What no one knows is that his "retirement" is actually a publicity stunt. All Brody has to do is clean up his act and settle down. Unfortunately, every single woman with a pulse is now gunning to become the new Mrs. Palmer.
Hannah Morgan needs to shake things up, and Brody is the best way to do just that. So they strike a deal—a fake relationship…with all of the sexy strings included! Brody gets his improved image, and Hannah gets a whole lot more of Brody's unpredictable wildness. Hot days, hotter nights—it's the perfect plan! Provided, of course, they don't do something to wreck it, like fall for each other…

----- ----- ----- ----- ------

Brody's latest good deed lands him in a media shitstorm and his sponsors are threatening to pull out. It's been proposed that he take a one-year retirement, during which time he's expected to clean up his act and builder a more respectable image. But he's ordered to keep it to himself, he cannot tell even his friends or family that the retirement is staged. Hannah quit her accounting job when she was once again passed up for a promotion, citing that she was "too safe" and needed to be more of a risk-taker. On that advise, she opts to travel the country and blog about the journey to finding a new job that better suited her. The two met a while back and had a month-long affair. When Hannah sees Brody on TV one night, she decides he may be the story she needs to break into photojounalism. He doesn't want to lie to Hannah, but he needs a cover "girl" to keep the other women away. Because this story read like a "book 2", my OCD demanded that I rerearch why it felt like I should already have read and known the mutual friends of Brody and Hannah. Reece and Abby were featured in I'LL BE YOURS FOR CHRISTMAS (Dec.1. 2010).
The characters are well-written, even if Brody comes off as being rather dick-ish at first. Luckily that is squashed rather quickly. The plot is a little used, but it's written in a way where it's not old and tired. There's a smooth flow. The conflicts were plentiful and most were resolved with not too much predictability. The conclusion was satisfying, however I feel this book could have greatly benefitted from an epilogue.

3 stars! I enjoyed seeing these two fall in love.

Why did I want to read this book?

I enjoy reading fake-relationship romance stories because so many shenanigans and situations can crop up and it’s always fun watching the characters try to stick to their story and ride out all the problems.

What worked for me?

I actually really liked that Brody and Hannah already knew each other and they did have a past together. It adds that extra layer to the whole fake-relationship thing they had to keep up. I love the glimpses every now and then of these two have been feeling with each other towards that gradual realization of their emotions. The last thing they think they need is to be in a real relationship, for Brody because his come back from his early retirement is at the forefront of his concerns, for Hannah because she’s vowed to take more of life’s adventures instead of staying in the sidelines of her own life. Their solution: strike a deal for a fake relationship to reach their ultimate goals. And although we all know how this was going to end, first with the revelations of the secrets and yes, the revelations and realization of their feelings for each other, I still enjoyed the journey that these two took to get there. They had chemistry and they really do seem to get each other in a way that there would be no need for explanations.

What did not work for me?

But while I really liked this one, I felt like there was something missing in terms of the depths of the relationship. I’m not saying that it was shallow because it wasn’t that at all. For me, I just wanted more because I didn’t connect with them as deeply as I would have liked; and I always want to connect deeply with the characters that I read.

My over-all take on it?

If you’re looking for a breezy but still emotionally present fake-relationship type of story, you could definitely try this book. You have sizzling chemistry and two characters who clearly care deeply for each other but because of all the things going on in each of their lives, it took a while for them to really open their eyes to what’s already in front of them. Plus, it’s always great reading about those oh-there’s-an-audience-so-we-have-to-appear-sweet-now-let’s-give-them-a-show-kiss-me types of scenes, right?

My rating:

3 stars

Rock Solid is a charming story about taking chances and finding love at the least expected time.

Brody Palmer is a race car driver who lights up the track with a fast and fiery reputation to match. But his sponsors are tired of the bad publicity he's been garnering lately and give him an ultimatum; retire for a season and clean up his image or loose his sponsorship. So Brody quietly retires to his family ranch. When the one woman who Brody ever found a connection with shows up at his door looking for adventure, he seizes the opportunity Hannah Morgan brings to give him a clean and wholesome image for his sponsors. But when their fake engagement becomes a little too real will Brody take the chance on something outside of the track?

Neither Brody and Hannah are looking for a relationship when they meet again after six months apart. Brody is trying to get his life and career back on track, and stock car racing is the only thing he has ever wanted to do. While Hannah is determined to reinvent her life from the boring one she was leading before with a new career and a new, take-chances attitude. But they have a past relationship and their is no denying the chemistry they still share. They restarted their relationship as a ruse to placate Brody's sponsors and ignite Hannah's photography blog traffic but it gradually turns into far more. There is lust and attraction from the start and Brody and Hannah quickly rekindle the flames between them but as feelings start to develop they each begin fight that connection for their own reasons. Hannah doesn't think that Brody wants a relationship or that she could ever hold his attention for long while Brody, in typical guy fashion, doesn't realize what is right in front of him until it is almost too late. There are many ups and downs in the plot, some that are Bordy and Hannah's own making, and others outside of their control like nosy media personas, pompous publicists, and family drama.

While somewhat predictable, Rock Solid was a sweet story. The story-line did tend to drag in areas though and towards the end I found myself more interested in a secondary couple's story. Abby and Reece are best friends of Brody and Hannah and they have their own story in I'll Be Yours for Christmas which I will be checking out at a later date. All in all though, Rock Solid was a well-written, nice read without all of the angst that is common in today's romance world and some sizzling scenes that kept this reader happy.

This was a cute read about a race car driver who is a bad boy. Usually I love these types of stories but this one just didn’t do it for me. It wasn’t a bad read, the author just lost my attention early on and just never got it. I thought it moved a little slow for the type of story it was. I did enjoy the read it just wasn’t as good as I had thought it would be.

Brody was force into early retirement because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. This is one time that he is innocent but cannot tell them that. He is doing his best to help a friend who would lose his family if the truth came out. In this case it is just one of too many times of being the bad boy. They tell him he must clean up his act, maybe settle down or at least have one girlfriend for a period of longer than 24 hours. In a year he can come back to race with a clean slate. If not then he will be moved to retirement, no one must know about this deal or it is off.

Hannah is bored, she isn’t getting anywhere in her job. They pass her over for promotions because she plays it to safe. She is going to show them how unsafe she can be, and just what a bad girl is will be. She sees a picture of an old friend, he is just what she needs to put her plan in action. She leaves town and goes to his place where she finds a women. Brody is trying to get the women out and he uses Hannah to make that happen. That was cute and a little on the humorous side.

Brody and Hannah had an affair for a month a year ago. It was just temporary, both knew it wasn’t going anywhere. She comes back and things get hot and heavy when they fall into a relationship which quickly moves into a fake engagement which turns out to not fake. Both are thrill seeks Hannah just likes playing things safe. There are twists and turns in the plot which are interesting. The author just could not keep me interested, it was a good read but not one I had any trouble putting down. I am sure there will be tons that will enjoy this read and love it. For me it was a cute read but just didn’t do it for me.

Samantha Hunter is another new author for me. The cover caught my eye and then the blurb. I think a good cover is the best way to get a reader to take a look at what's on the inside. Racer Brody Palmer is a bad boy caught one to many times in naughty situations. Now he's out of racing for at least a year as he works on improving his image. His biggest sponsor is making him clean up his act and find someone to settle down with if possible. Hannah Morgan is tired of feeling like she is boring. After she is passed over for yet another promotion at work she throws caution out the window and quits. Now she is traveling and trying to work on a photo blog and work on her writing skills in hopes of putting a little excitement in her life and hopefully some money. When she sees Brody on the news she decides he could probably help her. They had a quick month long fling before and it was the only time she ever felt a little wreckless. Even though Brody tries to shake her off at first when he finds out she needs help he's all in and maybe they can help each other. Loved this one. Brody and Hannah are both in the middle of some big life changes and watching them try to sort through them was fun and exciting. If your looking for a fun evening of reading this is a great book to do that.

I know it is hard to read around he holidays and the fact that it is a romantic HEA helps. Brody finds himself in a rock between a hard spot kind of place. Brody has been such a ladies man and his people need to let him know that he needs to come off as serious and dependable and maybe even married. Faking a retirement was Brody's version of hell. Along comes sweet and controlled Hannah and she barges into his life and turns it upside down. They both go into this agreement with eyes wide opened and hearts protected. I was emotional when they were and I felt for Brody and Hannah. I enjoyed this authors writing. I would like to have seen a bit more of the ending. It felt a little abrupt to me. I liked Brody's softer side and how he was with her. Fun and Fast!

This was an interesting book dealing with second chances and racing cars. The first I really like, I mean everybody deserves a second chance with the one that got away, right?! The car racing I'm not a fan of but thought that it sounded interesting. I ended up liking the book even though I didn't understand why he needed to clean up his image. I would think being a bad boy would bring more exposure to the sport and possibly more fans. But I don't know I only watch hockey which kinda thrives on the bad boy thing. That being said, the romance was sweet even if it was rushed. I know they knew each other before, but I still would've liked a little more build up. This was also the first time I read this author and I'm pretty sure I'll be reading her again.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

MY THOUGHTS~

I was provided with a Review Copy/ARC for review.

This story blew me away! I loved every single minute of it! Admittedly, I'm a sucker for all things sports romance, but this was excellent! It was fun reading about racing, for sure! This was my first time reading anything by author Samantha Hunter, but definitely won't be my last!

Rock Solid was extremely well written. The storyline wasn't exactly what I would call original, but I will say that the author took a not-so-original story, added her own twist to it, and made it unique in her own way. I just loved it! It was light, fun, and heartfelt.

I will for sure keep an eye out for other books from this author!

I really enjoyed reading this story. The characters were great and you didnt want to put it down till you knew the outcome for both characters. Throughout the story you felt like you were getting to know Brody and Hannah. This was the perfect length for a story. It was drawn out like most books these days that are fluffed up for a longer book. I would recommend to all my friends and fellow reviewers.

This was an enjoyable quick read. Despite being a sports-themed novel - focusing on racecar driving, as someone who doesn't follow sports closely, I didn't feel lost as those aspects were described. The transition of Brody's "retirement" from driver to cowboy felt natural. Brody and Hannah's relationship felt genuine, even as they came up with their ruse. The sexual scenes were a bit heavy quantity wise but the quality was great with each one; the balance between plot-driven story and sexual encounters seemed to balance out more as the book progressed. Overall, I'm glad I took the chance to read this romance novel and can see myself recommending it to others looking for suggestions in the genre.

Rock Solid

This story was gifted to me in exchange for an honest review.

Hannah Morgan has been content in her job in finance until she is passed by for a promotion because she is to calm, not adventurous enough, afraid to take risks. On the spur of the moment she quits this job and sets out to see the world, be adventurous and take some risks. She has started her own blog and she is going to get some action stories. When she sees a news story about her old friend race car driver Brody Palmer she decides he is just the person to help her.

However, Brody has gotten himself into one bad publicity stunt too many and his promoters are really upset with him. The suggestion is that he go into fake retirement for one year until everything calms down and then try to re-enter the racing world. This is not sitting well for Brody, he hates sitting around the ranch doing nothing.

Out of the blue Hannah shows up, now he has someone to talk to. So they come to an agreement, she sticks around for awhile and he helps her with her blog. But alas, the nosey reporter comes calling one day and Hannah lets it slip that they are really engaged. Ooops, that is a little closer than the plan originally intended for.

Things start to get kinda cute right about here. Hannah and Brody quickly renew their physical relationship and then some. Things have always been hot between the sheets for them and time and distance has certainly not dampened those feelings. The sex scenes are hot and frequent, just how I like them.

I thought the author did a great job on this story. It is a perfect read for an evening spent snuggling on the couch or lounging in a lawn chair. The story moved quickly and kept me entertained from the first page. I love Hannah and Brody as well as the characters of their friends and family. I would rate this story a 5/5.
