Free or not, life beneath the sea in the republic of Itlantis is less idyllic than Aemi might have imagined when she'd been just a surfacer slave. She's been accused of spying for the enemy thanks to her connections with the traitorous Nautilus family, not to mention her own tangled and mysterious family history. Her mother has arrived, and is determined to take over her life. Oh, and someone is trying to kill her. Again.

When Aemi receives word that her best friend might still be alive in a village on the surface, she and a crew of friends set out to find him, regardless of the danger from Nautilus's men patrolling the open sea and the mysterious threats on her life. But the sea is not the only thing that holds secrets.

I've been making up stories since I was five years old, and now I'm thrilled to be able to do it as a full-time job. I have an obsession with dark fantasy, dystopian futures, and Pride and Prejudice-style love stories full of witty banter and sizzling, unspoken feelings. When I'm not writing, I'm creating digital art, reading funny blogs, or watching my favorite shows (which include TVD and BSG). I live with my geeky husband and our two bad cats in Atlanta, GA.

Aemi is still struggling to adapt to life in Itlantis, with people believing she is part of the Nautilus plot, someone is trying to kill her again and her mother and sister have returned home to Primus. Still trying to find out information about her father and the Azure Institute, Aemi talks to Valus, the son of Arik Nautilus, the person who destroyed Celestrus. When Aemi receives word that her best friend Kit might be alive on the surface, she and some of her friends set out to find him but will they be able to avoid Nautilus’s men who petrol the waters?

With Tide and Tempest is the really enjoyable third book in the Secrets of Itlantis series. It is addictive, just like the other books in the series, and has action, twists and romance. However, I did find it a bit similar to By Sun and Saltwater, with them going off to investigate things.

Aemi is still as good as she was in the first two books as she was clever and strong but has learn to think things through more than she did before. My favourite newish character in this book is Valus because he is not what I was expecting.

I am really enjoying this series and am really looking forward to reading the next book For Wreak and Remnant as this book ends on a bit of a cliff-hanger. I would recommend With Tide and Tempest to fans of the first two books in the Secrets of Itlantis series.

This is probably closer to a 3.5 stars

I liked this a bit less than the previous 2. A bit slower overall. Aemi (or whatever one wants to call her in this book-everyone has their own name/nickname) is obsessed with two things. Learning about Perilous and finding her friend Kit. I find it interesting how much she kept going to her former betrothed for information. I really wonder what he thinks of her. Nol is back is a cryptic way. I don't understand how she deals with him in this. While the first 3/4 of the book goes slow it does pick up in the end. Things finally happen which is what salvaged this from being a 3 star.

I think I'd rank this one either tied with the first as my favorite, or in between the first and the second. There was solid character development in this one and loose threads from the first installment tied up. The one thing I don't like about this book, and about this whole series, is Nol. I just can't stand him. I hate him. It helps that he's in this book minimally, and I like the rest of the characters enough to make up for it, but I really can't stand him. He ruins everything.

This whole series is fantastic!!! Kate Ellison is a new to me author and I haven't been able to put her books down!!! The Itlantis series is well-written and truly intriguing with the various twists, turns, and cliffhangers that leave you impatient for more.

Another good one. Couldn't put it down. The plot thickens and things keep happening. Lives hang in the balance as the story ends. Now for the next one

So short

I feel like more information needs to be explained. Maybe if the books were longer we would get more information.

Circles

I feel like I just ran in a big circle. No secrets were revealed. No direction gained. Everyone running around in circles with no conclusions again.

With Tide and Tempest marks the third instalment in Kate Avery Ellison’s delectable Secrets of Itlantis series and is another beguiling undersea adventure that continues to follow a brave young heroine and keeps you on your toes with the turn of every page!

Life living beneath the sea is not smooth sailing for Aemi. Despite discovering she is the heir to the powerful Greywater family, Aemi is continuing to deal with threats on her life and accusations of treason against the people of Itlantis. Living under her father’s history and the shadow from his execution for treason, Aemi is determined to discover who is behind the attempts on her life as well as the ongoing threats to the people who live above the sea; Aemi’s old home. With the tyrant Nautilus still appearing to have plans for Itlantis, Aemi must manage to outsmart his men and those who would like to silence her…..forever.

Trudging along with this series, I continue to find myself entranced by Aemi’s tale with each new instalment. Our strapping heroine continues to grow with each novel; becoming stronger and stronger with each situation she finds herself in and building on the great individual she was from the very beginning.

Kate Avery Ellison continues to detail a rich, enigmatic and exciting storyline that blends different elements of friendship, romance and politics with plenty of mystery and adventure. I feel like the series is shaping up wonderfully with overall developments taking place, but each instalment still manages to convey its own minor plot arc; something that keeps you as the reader reading on as little revelations are revealed regarding Aemi’s history and the overall plans Nautilus seems to have for the people of Itlantis.

I’m still very much happy with the characters and enjoy reading about them all. Ellison introduces new individuals in the form of Aemi’s biological mother and her sister; properly put together individuals who clearly live up to the Greywater name, but who also hint at having softer sides and potentially caring for Aemi throughout the story. I really look forward to getting to know them in further novels and discovering what they really feel.

I must admit, I was very surprised to find myself questioning the possibility of Valus as a love interest for Aemi in With Tide and Tempest. My heart has always strictly supported Nol and Aemi’s relationship, but there were times throughout the story as Valus and Aemi got to know each other where I found myself wondering…..and I’m not sure how I feel about that exactly. I love Nol, but Valus….I don’t know, he and Aemi really seemed to connect in such a sweet and endearing way. We never really saw him in the last two books as more than a traitor’s son, but in With Tide and Tempest we see a different side to Valus, and you know what….it was a side I really liked. Cocky and guarded and cheeky, but also very kind—I’m intrigued!

Rich and thrilling, With Tide and Tempest concludes in a surprising manner and leaves me raring for more. Aemi’s journey never fails to be exciting and I’m more than ready to discover what is in store for her next!

In this third book, Aemi gets acquainted with life as a Graywater while the elite distrust her, some unknown group tries to assassinate her, Nautilus continues gaining power, and news reaches her that her surface friends may still be alive.

This book has a lot going for it. Aemi finally meets her mother and sister, and must deal with all the politics as her mother tries to do damage control, repair the family reputation, and for a suitor for Aemi. Meanwhile, Aemi tries to learn more about her father, find her surface friends, and try to figure out who is trying to kill her. And of course Nol is not absent in this novel, nor are a few other really important people from Aemi's past.

The only things I didn't like were that Nol is just a bit too stiff in this novel, the senate is useless, Aemi's sister didn't have a big enough role, and Aemi continues to be too harsh with Myo. Also the ending was a bit too abrupt and convenient to setup book 4.

Overall, this was a quick page turner and a fun read. The writing is top notch and several of the characters are well humanized. There is still a lot of mystery about her father, the Dron, the assassins, and more. It flows great from book 2 and continues the story nicely. Looking forward to reading book 4.

There is something about this series that I enjoy, however it's hard to put my finger on why I continue to read when these characters make themselves so unlikable. Aemi actually claims status and rank as the justification for making a decision that affects her friends; where is the consistency when this series starts out with her as a thrall and lamenting slavery and status? Established character behavior, consistency and logic are thrown out the window to serve "the plot" which pretty much puts the main character at odds with her prior story. In this third book there is too much exposition. I do not enjoy reading dialogue such as "You are a Graywater. You are brave and resourceful." Unfortunately Itlantis is melting into a formless puddle.

Political intrigue with a point is the dominant theme of this book. It's a nice change. I enjoy Aemi as nobility more in this book. The ending is a bit more frustrating than it has been for the previous two books, but I suppose that sometimes cliffhangers are unavoidable. I hope certain people don't die. I also hope that we see more of her sister, I would like for her to have family ties for a change.

Great second third book. Aemi is continually in search of information about her father but constantly on the watch for the person who is trying to kill her. Onto book 4! I love this series.
