This is volume 6 of 22 volumes of the complete ascetical works of Saint Alphonsus de Liguori. Each volume is complete in itself and any volume can be sold separately. This volume contains various writings by Saint Alphonsus de Liguori pertaining to the Holy Eucharist. The writings have been translated from Italian to English. This volume was edited by Rev. Eugene Grimm.
Saint Alfonso María de Liguori, CSsR (1696–1787), was an Italian Catholic bishop, spiritual writer, composer, musician, artist, poet, lawyer, scholastic philosopher, and theologian.
He founded the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (the Redemptorists). In 1762 he was appointed Bishop of Sant'Agata dei Goti. A prolific writer, he published nine editions of his "Moral Theology" in his lifetime, in addition to other devotional and ascetic works and letters. Among his best known works are "The Glories of Mary" and "The Way of the Cross", the latter still used in parishes during Lenten devotions.
He was canonized in 1839 by Pope Gregory XVI and proclaimed a Doctor of the Church by Pope Pius IX in 1871. One of the most widely read Catholic authors, he is the patron saint of confessors.
----------------------------------------- Brilliant!!! Several writings joined together. It's taken me a few years to finish this book. Really wonderful. 1.) "The Sacrifice of Jesus Christ" -- an incredible explanation of the Mass -- as deep as St. Leonard, but in a more accessible style. 2.) "Visits to the Blessed Sacrament and to the Blessed Virgin Mary". Like the booklet, just with the traditional wording. Super duper!! 3.) "Meditations for the Octave of Corpus Christi". More excellent meditations on the Holy Eucharist. 4.) "Novena to the Sacred Heart". Again, excellent meditations. 5.) "The Practice of the Love of Jesus Christ". One of his famous treatises. Super advice for living the Christian virtues out of love for Our Lord.
Another work deserving of more than just "5 Stars". These saints with Doctorates from the Blessed Trinity are truly special. St. Alphonsus is no exception. My only recommendation, try to get an "UNabridged Version". This is more of a devotional, prayer book in many regards, though it does include some exceptional treatises on Charity and other aspects of the spiritual life as well. This is more like several "books" or "essays" in one volume - at least in some editions. Masterpiece!
This book is so much more than just a book about the Eucharist. It is a book that speaks about all aspects of the Christian life. Its a theological book, its a hymnal, its a prayer book, its inspirational, its devotional. This must be one of the most beautiful Christian books ever written.
