Life is a constant repeat of classes, missions, and ensuring my brothers-in-arms don’t get blood on their clothes and bring it home for me to clean up. For the past few years, I’ve been part of a crew that takes from the bad guys and returns it to the good. It’s an unknown, thankless job, though. But when I catch sight of a dazed, platinum blond twink during one almost-blown-to-shreds mission, life takes an instant turn. Reid might not know it yet, but he’s mine, and I’ll do whatever it takes to keep him.
Reid
If I chase danger enough, maybe danger will do me in. That’s been the motto since my parent’s death a few years ago. Drugs. Alcohol. Random men in clubs. Until a tall drink of water named Dante enters my life and tries to call all the shots. Fat chance I’ll let him. But for some reason, I can’t help but fall to pieces for Dante. Hopefully, he’ll put me back together. Well, if he doesn’t get me killed first.
Call It Desire is the first in a trilogy about a crew of college boys who are trying their best to right so many wrongs. This story features black cat x black cat, an epic meet ugly, stalking as a love language, a brat who likes to be told what to do, two possessive MCs, and so much avoidable danger. Please check the TWs before diving in.
Maya spends most of her time imagining happily ever afters for the characters that live in her head. If she's not plotting how to heal broken hearts for her characters then she’s spending time with her precocious daughter. She loves baking competitions, listening to the same song on repeat for months, and discussing the latest pop culture event in a group chat with her best friends.
Dante + Reid 🖤 Brat | Arguing as foreplay | Size difference | Possessiveness

"Sweetheart, if I fuck you I'm not letting anyone else touch you ever again."
"Two broken boys, hurt by the world, finding an odd comfort with each other. If soulmates exist, I think Reid would be mine."
"Do I fight or do I give in? What's the easiest way to avoid murder? Instincts say for me to bite their balls off, but that's probably not the best way to go about this."
"I love you too, you fucking asshole."

This book is Charlie’s Angels — but gay 😅😅😅 No one knows who the “Boss” is or anything. It’s full of clichés, nothing really new or groundbreaking, but Maya (and a huge congratulations to her for stepping out of cozy romance 👏) gives it a special touch. It’s OTT and a bit unrealistic, but somehow fun, engaging… and HOOOOOOOOOOOOOT 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Dante and Reid are basically stupidly Fast & Furious — all those we’re not dating while totally dating vibes. And yet, they’re super sweet in their own twisted, kinky way. The possessive MC spoils and takes care of his sassy twink brat, who’s deep in denial. So yeah, nothing new… but I still couldn’t put it down! The Dom/sub dynamic is a learning curve for both — neither is experienced, but they somehow navigate it with calm, communication, and aftercare.
The rest of the boys are super engaging too — I’m dying to know more about everyone. The tension between Jacob and Hayden? 🫦 Yes, please.
And it looks like Mason (Reid’s brother) and Parker are next?? 👀👀👀👀👀
I do think the book needed more pages and context. I know we’ll get more of the Robins in future books, but I felt a bit lost. They’ve been a team for four years, and we basically know nothing about that time — it made understanding their dynamic a little hard. Also… what is that cover? I appreciate the lack of random male nudity and the attempt at a more aesthetic design, but it has to make sense, no? And maybe Reid accepect the Hood's a bit to fast? I get the vibe, but it didn’t fully land for me.
By the end, I had more questions than answers — but I’m definitely curious (and excited) for the next couple and to learn more about these Robins 😊
I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest opinion
➤ Quick Thoughts: I loved this new direction Maya took with this series. Fresh vibes, badass characters, and the found family energy? So good. I was hooked from the start and constantly dying to know what would happen next. The spice? Look… we were headed somewhere really steamy and then took an unexpected detour to almost. Still, I had so much fun with this story, and I’m already impatient for the next book!
➤ Favorite Quotes: ✨In Dante’s arms there is danger, but there’s also an odd sense of freedom that I can’t really explain.
✨Reid snuggles somehow closer into me, like he wishes he could blend his small body with mine. I’d take him into my body if I could, to protect him, keep him safe. Something about Reid just feels like… mine.
✨“I’ve never been like this with someone before… you bring it out in me. We’re both learning new things.” “Don’t learn too much and then think the grass is greener somewhere else.” Dante frowns. “You’re the only grass I want.”
✨Two hurt people in a broken world finding one another at the exact right time. Maybe life is more than a string of happy accidents, maybe it’s purposeful.
➤ The Good Stuff: ☑️ GRUMPY/PROTECTIVE X BRATTY CHAOS ☑️ FOUND FAMILY ☑️ VIGILANTE CREW ☑️ HURT/COMFORT ☑️ STALKING AS A LOVE LANGUAGE ☑️ FIRST LOVE VIBES ☑️ INSTANT CHEMISTRY ☑️ DARK ROMANCE WITH HUMOR/LIGHTHEARTED BALANCE
➤ Final Thought: Does he really love you if he hasn’t made it his full-time job to tear down every wall you’ve ever built with aftercare and murder? 🥰😏 #Dante’s5StepPlan: Disarm, Dom, Destroy, Devour, Devote
Call It Desire is book one in the One For All series. This MM college romance story is about Dante and Reid.
This book was so different than the Sweet Southern series I have read by Maya Jean, and let me tell you I was here for it. Dante is part of a vigilante group that is like a modern day Robin Hood. He meets Reid when he is on a mission, and decides then that Reid is his. There was stalking on both their parts, and I just ate up their dynamic. Reid was just so incredibly bratty, and I loved how sassy he was with Dante. The chemistry between these two was smoking hot and I couldn’t get enough of their possessiveness. Dante and Reid are two broken boys and I loved that they found comfort in each other. I was so invested in their story, and I absolutely loved it.
I thought the characters in this story were so interesting. I enjoyed getting to know the guys in Dante’s crew as well as Reid’s brother Mason. It definitely left me wanting more from this group and has me looking forward to the rest this series.
I received an advanced copy of this book, and this is my honest review.
This was such a fun little romp. Dante and Reid’s dynamic was actually so good. I loved the mutual stalking, instant “you’re mine” vibes. And their chemistry?! 🔥 The sex scenes and dirty talk?! Yes please.
Pretty insta-love, a bit twisted, bonding over being broken, and two main characters who really found their complimentary partner. Reid needed someone to take care of him and Dante fit in every way (kinky AND sweet).
I think my favorite part of this book was the setup of this found family group of vigilante college kids. I was a goner for all of the scenes of the boys all together. I loved their banter soooo much. I am SAT for both of the next books.
“Mortification threatens to overtake me. Jesus. I meet the hottest guy on earth, puke on him at the club, and then he doesn’t even fuck me. Where is the reset button?”
Okay! It was a quick and fun read. I enjoyed the fast-paced story, but I feel like it was a tad too short.
Again, I feel like elaborating on a few things, like the prologue; how the boys got into this business, how they trained, etc. This whole vigilante gig was a bit too vague. There was barely any context, and I felt like the prologue was just a recap of what happened in earlier books, despite this book being the first in the series. It also made it feel like a bit over the top and unrealistic without the details.
After putting this fact aside and focusing more on the romance and the plot, - after-all it’s fiction - I found myself enjoying it.
The plot turned out to be a bit cliche, and predictable, and I would have loved to see some more deep dive on the past traumas of both Dante and Reid. It would have made the story so much better, and could have helped with the relationship dynamics as well.
This unorthodox kindergarten / early stage dom/sub dynamics worked well imo. It was kinda cute to see how they come to accept what they need and figure it out together.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ The way I am feral for the next book!! I need so many answers! But in the best way. This book is very different than Maya’s previous stories. But her writing is consistently good!
We have one mmc that seeks danger but in a way that’s careless with his own life. Enter our other mmc- the danger. What I love most about them is how they ended up taking care of each other. Both mentally and physically. And we love a consent king.
“Dante is danger. But he’s also safety.”
I love the whole dynamic with the roommates. Parker and Jacob with their twin vibes. Hayden, the evil genius. I just know I’m going to love their books. Reid’s relationship with his brother, Mason. And Dante with his past. We were given the perfect about of tidbits to want more!
So many of my favorite things in this book! Found family, twin brother roommates, a bratty brat (and also his brother) a possessive king. And a very good boy.
MJ has done it again. Reid & Dante had me internally screaming. They were fire, snark & unexpected tenderness. Dante is like the orange cat of black cats. No thoughts, just Reid but will claw anyone that comes at him or has anything negative to say about him. Dante literally exists for Reid and Reid only. If you've read The Remarkable Lover, Dante gives Jackson a run for his money for the biggest simp.
The found family Dante, Parker, Jacob & Hayden have formed is really beautiful. They take care of each other seamlessly. They took in Reid like he was always meant to be there just because he was Dante’s. Of course, the snark & banter between them was hilarious but it was all meant with love.
This book was so different from the other books MJ has written, which just proves how versatile a writer she truly is. I absolutely cannot wait to read the rest of the series. I have a feeling Parker & Mason might be a bit heartbreaking. Either way I can’t wait for them. 🖤
WHAT TO EXPECT • Black Cat x Black Cat • Hurt/Comfort • Brat x Brat Tamer • Size Difference • Stalking as a love language • Possessive MCs • The most epic meet ugly (cute imo) of all time • Found Family • HEA
Cheating: Third-act breakup: POV: Dual POV (First Person POV)
This was such a cute story with a found family I already adore. Brats are my favourite kind of characters and I’ll never say no to a codependent, possessive relationship, so of course I loved Reid and Dante’s story. I can already tell I’m going to love this whole series and I seriously can’t wait to dive into Parker and Mason’s book next.
College guys who are exploring how BD$M can play into their relationship and how to channel their toxic and self-destructive behaviours into sex. I’m sold.
Imagine your favourite Maya Jean book and then triple the spice rating. The spice in this book packed an absolute punch, from breath play to exhibitionism - these boys had a lot of fun in this book. It explored their foray into BD$M and how they learned their boundaries and desires together. Maya Jean has written such a good book, I didn’t expect to love dark romance from her this much. As always the writing was so poetic and beautiful.
Add Dante to my list of toxic, possessive book boyfriends please!
5 stars New series from Maya Jean and this time we have dark themes, dangerous situations and unhinged characters. Dante, Parker, Jacob and Hayden are college students but they also live a double life as modern Robin Hoods. During a mission, Dante meets Reid who immediately shows his "brattytude". Dante's possessive and protective side arises immediately and they start a kind of relationship where they can't stay away from each other. Dante has the deep need of cherishing Reid and helping him to feel better, while Reid craves Dante's care and attention. Dante acts like the tough vigilante, but he melts in front of Reid (his breeding kink fits perfectly with the fondness and the strong attraction he feels for Reid) and Reid likes to push all Dante's button but deep down he's so sweet and he adores being loved by him.
The story is the perfect amount of mysterious missions, dark scenes, humorous banter and hot sex explorations. I normally don't enjoy very much books that involve dark themes, but here I wasn't bothered by them because I found everything very well balanced and Reid and Dante's relationship was always at the center of the story.
i also loved that the mystery around their boss and all their activities are not completely revealed, but I suspect we'll know a little bit more with every book. The side characters are all great: I'm very much intrigued by Mason and Parker and I can't wait to read their story. We know a few things about mason through his brother Reid, but the author didn't reveal almost anything about Parker, and that only made me more curious.
Hopefully, we won't have to wait too long for the second book, 'cause I'm already craving it!
I was provided with an ARC by GRR in exchange for an honest review. These are my real sentiments about the story and everything written here is respectful, without meaning to harm anyone, but to offer my opinion as constructive criticism.
⭐️⭐️.75 (rounded up to ⭐️⭐️⭐️)
The plot of this story is extremely interesting. The whole concept of what Dante and his friends work with, as well as the mystery around it, were so enticing. I hadn't read anything like it yet. The problem was exactly that: it was so interesting, I just wanted more. More details, more development, more explanations. This book could easily be longer as long as the info presented were relevant to building more into the story and solidifying it. Not only their job, which was so randomly presented at the beginning and could've showed us in such a depth important aspects of the characters, but also their found-family dynamics. I missed seeing more of it instead of Dante just narrating who he'd closer with and what each of the guys had been summoned for.
About the couple. While I did like the superficial aspects I saw of Dante and Reid, they also could've been so much more interesting had we had more info about them and had their traumas explored better. The whole I didn't really buy all the love they felt for each other, to be completely honest, but that's just because I think there wasn't time to build it to the readers considering how short a story it is for its high complexity.
I think Maya has a great mind, and her writing is not bad at all. For me, it was more about the execution of the plot and its details, which were more told than shown to us. If this story was re-written with more of those details and exploring the sensitive topics regarding the characters' backstories and traumas, it would have the potential to be absolutely great.
All in all, I'm very curious about the other two potential couples that were presented to us, and I'm definitely gonna read the next one. I really liked the little I saw of Parker and Mason.
"He seems sweet. You puked on him, broke his nose, and he brought you home to tuck you in. You could do much worse, Reid."
Listen. I may or may not have imprinted on Reid a little bit. Okay, a lot a bit. Majority of my thoughts while reading this was "wow reid is perfect, i hope reid is happy, reid is so cute, my little feral pookie, uh oh ok yeah dante cools too i guess but mostly because reid likes him".
This series definitely was less sunshine and rainbows than the authors Sweet Southern series, but it had a few things that were the same: characters you can't help but root for, and found family. Two things that Maya Jean excels at writing.
I loved the meet ugly, and how Dante and Reid have this instant connection. There is some reluctance on Reid's part to succumb to his feelings; he's spent a long time punishing himself for things that are not his fault so the thought of someone taking care of him is not something he thinks he deserves. (spoiler: he does deserve to be taken care of. SO MUCH.). I liked how Dante met Reid where he was at- he understood that Reid needed something to make him not feel as bad anymore but found a way to give that to Reid in a safer way. Still getting an outlet of the bad feelings, but isn't it nicer when its a tall, sexy man taking control in the bedroom???
These two definitely have an unconventional love story, but it's evident that that's what this is: love. I loved the chaos that reigned when they were together, I liked Dante's protectiveness of Reid, I liked Reid's unwillingness to behave but also how pliant he became once he trusted Dante to give him what he needed.
also Parker/Mason is sooo galaxy brain, can't wait!!
if you’re used to mushy gushy maya jean - you are in for a TREAT with this one.
as i finished my arc just now, i had a thought pop into my brain: “it’s giving onley james.” !!!! i was absolutely obsessed with the mulvaneys so i mean this as the highest compliment.
we have a modern-day telling of robin hood happening & let me tell you i am simply obsessed with the concept. i would’ve loved a little more development on robin themself but i’m thinking this will come with time. we did learn a little more towards the end of CID re: robin’s boys that had me going “oh shit?” 👀
maya floored me with how HOT this one was. the sweet southern series is just chock full of the feel good stuff so dante and reid’s dynamic was a surprisingly fun twist that i am so here for. we’ve got “i want to make you cry”, use of good boy, edging, some dom/sub-esque vibes playing into their bedroom dynamic, and even a fun little dash of breeding kink. 🤪 reid was the sweetest little brat to dante’s slightly unhinged self.
honestly massive props to maya because i know this was likely out of her comfort zone & i had an absolute blast reading. very much looking forward to book 2 as well as other installments!
"If something happens to Reid.... I'll burn this city to the ground if a single hair on his head is hurt." Call it Desire by Maya Jean
Maya is BACK and she’s taking us to the dark side and I’m loving it!! This is the first book in a brand new, darker series from Maya, and let me tell you, it delivers. If you’ve read her previous sweet southern romances, you already know she can write swoon-worthy men. But now? Now she’s giving us swoon worthy vigilantes who would burn the world down to protect the one they love. And yes, I swooned hard.
The moment Dante and Reid meet, there’s an immediate spark, but it’s full-blown obsession for Dante. Reid? He takes a little convincing. A dangerous game of cat and mouse pulls them closer, but Reid has no idea that while he’s watching Dante… someone else is watching him.
I had so much fun falling into this story. Dante is strong, intense, fiercely protective, and absolutely focused. Between school, a mysterious "side job," and taking care of his sister, he has zero time for distractions, until Reid crashes into his life. From that moment, Dante’s instincts kick in and his need to protect Reid becomes all, consuming. That same protective nature ends up putting Reid directly in danger, and yes, Dante goes full on war mode to keep him safe.
Then there’s Reid, sweet, brilliant, and a little reckless ok, very reckless. Haunted by the loss of his parents and burdened by guilt, he pushes everyone away, including his concerned brother. But when he wakes up after a wild night to find out who brought him home, he can’t resist the mystery that is Dante. Game on.
Maya’s shift from soft and tender to gritty and intense is so fun to read. She doesn’t hold back, these characters go through hell, but along the way, they find strength, love, and each other. It’s a phenomenal start to a new series.
AND OMG, Reid’s brother is next! And he’s paired with one of Dante’s crew? You need to read this book just to meet them. I’m counting down the days!
i will never fail to read a maya jean book, she always manages to write the most gripping stories whether it is a heart throb hurt-comfort with swoony moments and angst or, a mysterious group of boys, working for an undisclosed benefactor righting the wrongs of criminals and getting their own back? yeah i was totally here for that.
dante and reid were so good — i really loved everything about them, their ugly ass meet cute, their dynamic, their push/pull and delicious tension.
i can quite happily say, anything that comes from this series, i will eat up, maya has an incredible way of introducing the most endearing and wholesome characters, i really really really can’t wait to meet more of these boys separately in their own books. especially you parker and mason, sweet babies!! and jacob and hayden oop delish.
honestly loved this book, istg it was also giving charlies angels but make it gay????? I’m such a fan of those movies and that’s all i could think of while reading.
love love love this direction for your writing maya
Insta-obsession at its finest, this book was fast-paced and full of vibes. Really enjoyed Dante and Reid together, two black-cat MCs with good smutty sex is something I love 🥰 Can't wait for Parker and Mason next!
I wanted to like this SO BADLY! It had so many things I love, but I just didn’t feel they were executed well, and I found myself bored and annoyed while reading. Damn. And the cover is so pretty too 😭
I love this book so much of Reid & Dante. I like the whole college/vigilante aspect and I love how they protect each other. I can’t wait to see Masons and Parker story. But man these are really good books so far.
“I’m rotten to the core. Maybe Dante can replace everything decaying inside me with something good, something worthy of desire.”
….
Modern day Robin Hood’s. Shattered souls fixing each other becoming one. Two mirrors, one reflection. A mix of fireworks turning into one beautiful chaos.
What’s next? … counting down the days.
Ps. Forehead kisses.
….
“I’ve found his trigger and I’m the bullet.” // “Yeah, for a little while. I’ll be your fix…” // “Grip the headboard bars…” // “Yeah, he has a thing for danger. But when he says that, he means me.” // “I’ll tear the world apart to find him…” // “Find me, asshole…” …
….
*I reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.
{Call it Desire} Release date July 18 Arc review by Jessie Melka ___________•___________
NEW SERIE BY MAYA JEAN
Call it desire is the first book to Maya Jean’s new series One For All this new series revolve around the four boys Hayden, Dante, Parker and Jacob the boys was all recruited by a secret benefactor to go on missions steal from the rich and give back to who they really belong to along with a little bit of innocent murder along the way
This being the first book I didn’t expect to get as much information as I wanted, especially when we talking about the vigilante, stuff all the Robin Hood stuff why don’t they question who they are working for? Why is everything just how it is and who are they working for? I simply don’t understand why they go along working for people they don’t know who are. I would have also like to see a bit more about the mission they are going on, but I hope we get to see a bit more further along in the series
Call it desire is about Dante and Reid Dante is one of our modern day Robin Hood vigilantes his big and brooding and has a neck for cleaning blood out of jeans Reid it’s a little brat seeking danger where he goes so he can feel something other than nothing
We first meet Dante being his old grumpy self even though inside his secretly a marshmallow, especially when its Reid that’s involved when he goes to the club for one of their missions he runs into a stupid hot blond twink who is drugged out of his mind a protective search when a stranger tries to take the guy with him comes over Dante and he takes the guy home himself so he’s safe. That’s the start of their love story puke, drugs, and stalking
I have to cut this review short here because I’m currently having a major writers/readers block and I’m so sorry I will return with some updated reviews later on
This is a very high heat fast burn can book with a twist of a little darkness so if that’s something that interests you, I would go ahead and recommend this for you but remember to form your own opinions and not just listen to me Until next time, my loves…
Rating: 3/5 Spice: 3/5 Angst: 1/5 Would I read again: don’t know
(I received an advance copy for free and I’m leaving this review voluntarily)

Here's Maya Jean's "Call It Desire." It's the first novel in her new One For All U series.

I did not necessarily see Maya Jean as a dark romance writer...and yet, I'm here for it. Especially these two, this dynamic. They were hot like oil and fire, and their chemistry was just as hot. It was electric. They completed each other in some many ways, their traumas and their desires meshing into a perfect relationship (somehow).
I canNOT wait for the rest of these men to find their HEA. We, for the most part (unless there’s a twist or two), know how the future couples will be, but we have to wait for them. Plus the overall plot tying the men and the series together. I always say this, but it’s giving slightly Mulvaney vibes (in the vigilante avengers vibe—and the obsessive as hell, imprinting on others way).
Trigger Warnings: on-page murder, kidnapping, torture, past drug-use & self-harm, past death of parents, mutual stalking, survivor's guilt, vomiting, panic attack, claustrophobia, and more.
📚BOOK♡REVIEW📚 *ARC READ* Maya Jean introduces us to The Brotherhood—a covert group of young men operating as modern-day Robin Hoods, stealing from the corrupt to give back to those who deserve it… with a bit more murder on the side. It’s a fascinating premise that blends vigilante justice with deep personal bonds and dangerous lifestyles.
I’m especially intrigued by the dynamic between Dante, Parker, Jacob, and Hayden. After working together for four years, it’s clear there’s a strong history there, but in this book, we’re only scratching the surface of that connection. I’m eager to dive deeper into their world in future installments with all the questions this book left me with.
Now let’s talk about that meet-ugly (RIP Skull Chuck Taylors) between Reid and Dante—equal parts chaotic, intense, and heated. What starts as instant attraction (or obsession, in Dante’s case) quickly spirals into a full-blown fixation. Dante becomes captivated by Reid’s sass, spark, and underlying pain—while Reid, carrying the weight of survivor’s guilt and self-destructive tendencies, unintentionally triggers every one of Dante’s protective instincts. “Dante is danger. But he’s also safety.” That line captures him perfectly.
Though their relationship follows an insta-love trajectory, it never feels boring. The stakes are high, the pace quick, and the chemistry electric, all woven into the adrenaline-filled lifestyle the Brotherhood lives.
We’re introduced to an intriguing cast—from brothers Mason and Reid to the rest of the Brotherhood—and I loved getting glimpses into all the unique dynamics at play. I can’t wait for Parker and Mason’s story next!
This wasn't what I hoped for and it makes me feel disappointed since it's the first book I read from this author. Everything about it felt very half-baked, I was hoping for something fun since this was a short book and it had some elements I enjoy. Sadly, the execution lost me right from the beginning.
So this starts with a prologue that explains some of the background plot and it didn't convince me at all. Everything just fell into place very easily and it made me not take any of the vigilante thing seriously onwards. It also didn't help that later on many scenes had a juvenile tone, despite most of the themes surrounding the story having a more mature feeling and could've been presented differently.
After that, things happen really fast and at times it does more of telling than showing. The idea of having a big guy feel protective and obsessive over a smaller one after an encounter at a club seems perfect for me. I just didn't understand the progression of the couple.
While I liked the aspect of their d/s dynamic at the beginning and some of the push and pull, it wasn't enough to get me fully invested into them. I was basically bored when it came to everything. If the book doesn't grab me during the first chapters, it's over, and it's what happened here. I tried to stick to it and see if it got better but it was a lost battle.
I am giving this two starts because I believe there was potential and I didn't dislike every single thing, I actually found some moments where I was slowly getting into it but then got pulled back due to the execution and wonky progression.
I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.
Maya’s debut in her latest series proves that while she may have mastered the art of slow-burn romance, she’s just as formidable when diving into the gritty, dark, and lip-bitingly spicy side of love. This book is a bold new direction, and Maya navigates it with confidence, heat, and emotional depth.
One of Maya’s undeniable strengths is character development, and our leading duo—Dante and Reid—are prime examples. Dante exudes the magnetic intensity of a possessive black cat, a brooding presence that only becomes more intoxicating behind closed doors. Reid, on the other hand, is all sass and challenge—a brat through and through—until Dante brings him to heel in scenes that had me melting. Their dynamic is electric, a delicious blend of power play and raw vulnerability.
The plot doesn’t take a backseat to the spice. From the very first chapter, Maya hooks the reader with a solid narrative that balances character tension with intrigue. I’m particularly eager to unravel more about the boys’ mysterious employer as the series continues.
Supporting characters are also introduced with finesse. Maya gives us just enough to be intrigued without overshadowing the main storyline, weaving them in naturally and setting the stage for future installments.
As for the spice—it’s very spicy. The dirty talk is on point, and Maya doesn’t hold back. Still, it’s important to note the presence of TWs, which are handled with care. The scenes that may require sensitivity are written with respect and intentionality, never gratuitous
I enjoyed this book. It was a nice, short and easy read whilst also keeping me hooked. Reid and Dante were so good together, both very protective of one another and very cute from the beginning. Reading about how Dante would take care of Reid was the sweetest and seeing how obsessed they both got with each other was everything.
I also really loved the dynamics with them and the side characters. All of Robin’s boys (Dante, Parker, Jacob and Hayden) were hilarious and I’m glad they accepted Reid and Mason, it’s obvious how much they care about each other even if they don’t say it much.
I didn’t really like how we got the prologue of how they got into these jobs and then it being a few years later where the book actually starts. We didn’t understand the dynamics of the characters straight away and how they actually were over those years.
I do wish we got more background about their family. Like we were told how Reid and Masons parents died in a plane and how Dante’s sister Ama became disabled but I wish we still got more on a deeper level. Dante said towards the end he was ready to take Reid to see his parents and sister but we never actually got to read about it and I think that would’ve been cute.
I will say that the writing could do with some work as sometimes things didn’t read well and it fell flat.
I’m excited for the next books though! It’ll be interesting to see Parker and Mason’s dynamic but I am more excited for Jacob and Hayden (Dante saying Jacob must be oblivious but I don’t think that’s true and I think both Jacob and Hayden are keeping a secret but let’s wait to find out what’s actually going on).
✎ I saw the beautiful flowers with splashes of of blood as the cover and didn’t know what to expect but yeah after reading the book everything makes sense because there are sweet moments and beautiful moments like the flowers, and difficult moments that taints the flowers but still doesn’t take away the beauty of the flowers and that’s exactly what this book was about. Two boys recovering from loss, finding themselves and discovering their purpose and loving each other.
✎ Dante and Reid had amazing chemistry,it was like they were made for each other,Reid wanted danger and Dante was offering it but in a way that it pleasurable and safe.In a way they both needed each other.I love the way Dante cared for Reid, showed him he was worth love, broke down his walls and loved him like there was no tomorrow.Reid was a brat with the softest heart ever and exactly what Dante needs.Him being himself is the best thing he’s ever done for Dante. The way he respects and cares for Dante was beautiful.
✎ I loved the found Family aspect of this book,I love when a friendship is so beautiful and strong that it just feels like family.Hayden,Parker,Jacob,Mason,Reid and Dante will literally go to war for each other. The way they bicker among themselves but wouldn’t think twice to protect each other is such a beautiful thing to read.
✎ I really can’t wait to Read about Mason and Parker and hopefully 🤞🏽Jacob and Hayden.😊
