Milly Grove, home of Kenneth ‘Uno’ Mills, has been exclusively ran by his family for over a century. Commissioner by day and gangsta by night, he's the man in his city. Although he may hold a position in office don’t be fooled by the expensive tailored suits. Disrespecting him will cost you your life.
When the current mayor is exposed for misconduct, Uno steps in to make sure the position continues to be held by the Mills bloodline. His decision to run for Mayor leaves the family at odds. Once he receives the keys to the city, blood ties will be severed, lives will be lost, and new bonds will be forged on his journey to restoring the community.
Running a city is not for the weak, but there’s not a better man fit for the job. In Milly Grove, nothing moves unless Uno says so.
Baby Uno did not disappoint. Girls and fellas and my other friends y’all need to read this book this series but go read Devereaux series first to see how it all goes down and connects. Uno is one of a kind and that man does what he says he’s going to do. I scream laughing several times at the audacity of some of the statements and actions that this man did throughout this book. He runs the streets and he’s running the political scene. He gives you all the BDE that you could ever need. I can’t wait to see what the other three brothers are giving.
This started out ok I think, honestly I don’t even remember for real. I been ready to stop reading this, I got to 74% and couldn’t make myself read any longer. This just wasn’t good to me. IMO there was NO chemistry btw the 2 main characters, and the MFC’s personality didn’t fit her. The relationship was not built into anything, it was “oh I saw u in the club and BOOM I knew you were the one” so because of that they didn’t have to get to know each other at all they just was in love after a couple nights. It was super cringey, and forced if you ask me. I didn’t get any feels for them together at all. I would like to read about the quiet brother whose name I cannot remember. And maybe even someone taming wild. But this story could’ve been kept honestly.
This is my first time reading this author, as I'm sure you can tell from the heading of this review. This was a decent read, and I would have to say my only pet peeve was the incorrect use of lustrous because I feel as an author you should know the definition of words you're using and if there's any uncertainty a definition should be searched for. Also, the character Jules and his actions in this book make me curious about what I think are books written before this one that may be connected.
World-building is heavy in this one, and while there were moments that felt unnecessary, I get why the author made those choices—it’s setting the stage for the series.
As for Uno & Harley… I kind of liked them, but honestly, I didn’t feel like their relationship fully came alive on the page. I’m always looking for that “how did they fall in love?” moment, and it felt like we didn’t get the full picture here.
I really enjoyed this! I stayed up late enjoying this. Uno isn’t the one and I love that lol. Carlos, you got what you deserved. And overall I love a book that makes me laugh with just the right amount of spice. On to the next book!!
I love how it ties into the other books. Uno is cool but Wild is the funniest. Him and Jules together is hilarious. Like is you cool?!!! Carlos should’ve been dead ugh
Overall, I love this author’s work and appreciate her originality and unique storytelling. While this book’s plot kept me engaged and exemplified the creativity I associate with this author, it definitely fell a bit flat for me because of the writing style, which is something I’ve never experienced from Nek Mills.
At times, the narration was a bit off because there was a lack of description or transitions between scenes. New scenes would began without informing the reader of the setting and descriptors wouldn’t properly narrate the actions of the characters. For the most part, I was able to fill in the blanks and continue reading. However, a few times, I had to reread to make sense of what was happening.
An example of this would be the date scene that took place after Harley and Ava spent the day being pampered. I had no clue that Uno had my girl, Harley, on a boat until I was 3 pages into the scene. Before it was mentioned, they could’ve been literally anywhere else, so I just bridged the gap and assumed a restaurant. This worked fine, until it was stated pages later that Harley was sitting in his lap before leading Uno to a cabin on the boat. Because I was left to fill in the setting and assumed wrong, I definitely went back to see if I missed something and realized that the setting just wasn’t included at all.
Besides this, I love the Mills family and look forward to hearing the rest of their stories. Based on the premises that Ms. Mills have set up, I know I’m going to eat those books up. Wild and Ava definitely give twin flame, while, apparently, Skip had trust issues from a past relationship. I look forward to seeing what else Milly Grove has to offer.
Family doesn’t always mean loyalty. Blood, sweat and tears is what normally builds family history. A good foundation is worth everything. At any moment your person can be right in front of you. Let’s chat!
Though she wanted to be on her own and living life to its fullest, but family meant everything to her- Harley. My girl wears her feelings and emotions on her sleeve but she far from being weak🥹. My girl put her life on hold to help her parents with the family business. We all know how life can take a turn you least expected and for the worst🫣. Listen the way a night out with her best friend and eyes connecting, changed everything for my girl - Kenneth aka “Uno”! I love that it wasn’t immediately but not a lot of cat & mouse🥰! With the threat of losing the family business, ya girl has no clue that her life was about to drastically change and Uno made sure of it 🥰. See what I love about Harley was those she had a lot on her, her respect meant everything to her. She made that know when meeting Uno family and checked Skip 🤣! Then had to check Uno groupies. The way I was in tears laughing especially when she told old girl to move around before she ended up like her man in a body cast 🤣! Stop playing with her🤭! Then the pressure and assurance that Uno was giving🤏🏾🤭!
Kenneth aka Uno, played no games when it came to Milly Grove🫣. He stands 10 toes down on that’s his city and those around him knew this as well. The way he was checking his Uncle had me laughing🤭 like stop playing with him. The flame that was put under him about the mayor position has him like, yeah no. The family way before me worked hard for the Mills name and he was not going to allow his uncle to tarnish it. While doing this and handling business, he didn’t know that he needed that Queen beside him and when he got her, he wasn’t coming up off her- Harley🥰! The way this man loved and protected her🤏🏾! The way he made sure she was able to do her after everything crumbled🤏🏾! When issue occurred ya boy didn’t break a sweat about nothing but handled what needed to be handled with the help of his brothers Wild & Skip! Their relationship was 🔥 and I loved it! Uno was just that 🥷🏽! He put on for his city and mean it.
Skip, definitely has my antenna up wanting to know more. He was the silent beast that I feel everyone underestimated. He just wasn’t a man of many words but was about his business. One thing for sure don’t come for his family especially his brothers! Then there’s Wild! His name fits him very well as he was just that wild. He about that life and gets active when needed. It’s like he was never serious about anything. But one thing for sure, don’t come for his family and again as stated before don’t come for his brothers. The relationship the siblings have is unbreakable! I honestly need to know of he ever get serious with anyone and slow down on the joking. I just know there’s more to him!
Uncle Carlos 🫣! Poor tink tink. He couldn’t win for losing. Everything that happened to him he brought on himself. Greed is a dangerous and he learned the hard way. The fact that he doesn’t recall what happened to him 🤭. Jules did a number on him and the way he did him 🤣🤣! Ya boy was working around smelling like death 🤭🤣!
This read was funny through and through with business being handled. The balance of seriousness and laughter was everything! Nek stories will have you in a chokehold as I’m currently in one. I will be in Nek mills land for a minute and I’m here for it.
Now this is an introduction! Milly Grove was a hot mess with Carlos at the helm. (Why is he still around anyway with his creepy, greedy, ass)!! 🤬 I digress. Anywho, everyone is trying to figure out what is wrong with this 🥷🏿. His erratic behaviors, and that damn smell! 🤢 Well, commissioner Mills to the rescue.
Kenneth "Uno" Mills is the man who runs Milly Grove, title or not. He knows everything that goes on in his city, with eyes and ears everywhere. Along with his brothers Wild and Skip, they keep the city moving. He steps up when it is obvious that his Uncle Carlos don lost his damn mind! 👀 This action pushes Carlos over the top, and well..... Uno has been activated.
While all this chaos is happening in town, Kenneth meets Harley and is awestruck. He is set to make her his. They were adorable together, and Uno would move heaven and earth to make her happy. Now Miss Harley I thought was green and timid, but sis had some fire! Cussing people out and knocking folks upside the head if need be. 🤣 Perfect pair.
I loved that the Boudreaux family made a cameo with an assist to the town. Jules! 🤯 I remembered his capabilities, but damn! Whew.... 😤 Loved this intro, and looking forward to seeing more of the Mills clan. 👍🏿👍🏿
This is my city. I hold the keys to this s##t, and as I often say, don’t nothing move unless I say so in the Grove.
In reading about the Boudreaux family, I got acquainted with Uno, Skip, and Wild...plus their raggedy degenerate uncle Carlos. That man was unscrupulous and got EVERYTHING he deserved. Uno was definitely the man and I love how he stepped to and behind Harley like she was the end all be all. For him, she was. She made it plan, she wasn't going to be an afterthought and if he played with her he'd end up in pieces... She fit right in with this family. Uno/Kenneth did his dirt, but he was all about elevating the city and the people of Milly Grove and he stood on his promises. There were so many times I had to put this down because Wild had me dying laughing. I wonder if he and Ava will ever realize they're for each other? Jules once again proved being around him needs a lot of prayer. I can't wait to read Skip's book because I got a glimpse of what's going on with him in Dre's book. Happy Reading Y'all!💋
Nek Mills writing is supreme and so vivid. I started with her Dreaux Empire Series with Zoo, Jules and Dre. I was so hooked on the author's writing style that I had to read some of her other books. I love when characters are introduced in one book and then becomes the main character in another book....And this is how I found out about the next series to read: Mills Brothers! The first book, Keys to My City had me locked in from page one—quick, drama-packed, and straight addictive. Uno and Harley? Their vibe was smooth and natural, the type of love you can’t help but root for. The chemistry between them felt real, not forced, and it gave the story that extra spark.
But let’s keep it a buck—Wild stole the show for me. That man is unpredictable in the best way, and his name fits him perfectly. Every time he popped up, the energy shifted and kept me entertained. The pacing stayed tight, the drama hit just right, and it never went over the top.
NEK Mills really delivered with this one—fun, gritty, and engaging from start to finish.
Kenneth/Uno is the oldest of three and stepped into the leardshop role when his dad retiree. He is also in a government role in a town founded by his family. Kenneth has to deal with his uncle who is facing a slow karma for his deeds. But this uncle believes thatvhe is untouchable and and owns the city.
Harley is the only child of business owners in this town. She is im college and doing all that she can to help her parents keep their grocery store afloat. She is also a college atudent a few semsters away from graduating. She has a "boyfriend" that doea not help im any way and pops in and out because he "gwtting money".
Uno sees Harley at a club but doesnt approach her until some time later. However, he deemed her his woman the first time he saw her.
Harley doesnt car about the money or material things. She is just tryinf to help jer parents. She doesnt immediately trust Uno in his decleration of wanting her and a relationship.
There is always a lil fires along the way and Uno is very happy to feed the flames or smother it.
For as much as I enjoyed the Boudreaux series I couldn’t wait to eat this up. But unfortunately this was just an ok read to me, and I can’t really put my finger on why. I think my biggest complaint is just feeling a lack of connection to their love story. I’m all for love at first sight but it didn’t feel executed well for me. The progression from “I saw you, and now you’re mine”, just felt abrupt. But I guess that was just them, the story moved very quickly, though the resolution with his uncle at the end felt super rushed through. Uno was a good MMC, he cared about his community, and didn’t play about his Harley. Harley shocked me because I thought she was sweet and naive but sis was a lil mini crash out as well lol. Wild as the comedic relief was probably my favorite part. I’m curious to know the man behind the jokes. Overall, while this wasn’t one of my faves and could have used a bit more editing, I do enjoy Nek Mills as a writer.
This was an ALC for me and the first time reading this author.
The audiobook for Keys to My City was a mixed experience for me. The male narrator was spot on! His delivery fit the character perfectly, and I could easily picture him while listening. His tone, pacing, and emotion really brought his POV to life and kept me engaged.
The female narrator, however, didn’t quite match the character’s age as written in the book. Her voice came across noticeably older, which pulled me out of the story at times and made it harder to fully connect with her character.
I enjoyed the drama and the overall premise, but the chemistry between the main characters felt a bit off. The interactions didn’t always spark the way I expected, especially given the tension the plot was aiming for.
Overall, it’s a solid listen with strong moments, especially on the male narration side, but some mismatches in narration and chemistry kept it from being a higher-rated experience for me.
Uno was a boss in every aspect of the word. He was born to lead and with brothers like Skip and Wild, he was unstoppable. The only thing he was lacking was an anchor and that was Harley. Harley provided a sense of normalcy for Uno as he navigated between the legal and illegal sides of his businesses. I like that their relationship was cute and filled with love despite minor bumps due to lack of communication. Now Carlos and Mal, but especially Carlos, deserved everything that was served to them.
Wild’s character added the comedic relief that we needed, while also giving us a glimpse into what his story will be like. I can say I’m most intrigued by Skip—those quiet ones always have me guessing.
Now Jules and his special appearance had me clutching my pearls right along with Andre. Even Wild’s crazy behind was shook.
Now I didn't know what to expect going into this book. But this was definitely such a fun read. Kenneth might have been the f****** commissioner but that n***** was no joke when it came to he is. He didn't play about his life legacy or his woman. Which made Harley the perfect girl for him because she was a little unhinged herself with her responses. For example Kenneth a get a uno throwing that n***** over the balcony had me cackling for a good 5 minutes. And then hardly threatening to f****** shive that girl For stepping to her man. I love how the characters from other books play into the authors book....rhe people who got smoked deserved that and much more....when I tell you the ex mayor was definition of karma is a fucking bitch when you do dirt. And I loved seeing Jules and his crazy self... revenge is best served cold...🤣🤣
Kenneth aka Uno is the city commissioner by day and a gangsta by night. He, his brothers Skip and Wild have the city on lock. Their Uncle Carlos, the current mayor is living foul. He's a pedophile who thinks he's living his best life. However, unbeknownst to him, he's dying from the spell that Jules cast upon him.
Once Uno and his brothers discover what's going on, Uno decides to become mayor since the bylaws dictate that only a Mills can hold the title. Uncle Carlos is pissed and not having it. He sets out to wreck havoc on the community and shake down business owners. But karma is a big, old mean heifer. Uncle Carlos f's around and finds out who holds the keys to the city.
This is a great read. I can't wait to read the next installment.
If you thought the Boudreaux brothers was something Welcome to Mills Grove where it is ran by the Mills family and most of all Kenneth “Uno” Mills. Him and his brothers Jordan “Skip” Mills and Adrain “Wild” Mills are not to be messed with. Playing the back legally as the Commissioner but up front illegally as the ninja who runs Milly Grove Uno is that ONE!! Fine, about his business (legal and illegal), BDE, and coming hard about his lady Harley, his family, and His city; He steps up and puts on for his city when he becomes Mayor of The Grove. Falling in love with Harley was easy while taking down one of his own relatives at the same time. This book was so good from start to finish. Easily 5 stars. Can’t wait for the next book. Ready to read more about Skip. Please read Dreaux: The Ruthless One before starting this one
I literally forced myself to finish this. Part of me wish I hadn’t.
The beginning had me. It feels like the writing got lazy. The pace of the build up was so good and then BOOM they were in love?? It was too abrupt.
Honestly I feel like so many authors start to just write what they see in other books. The writing was so juvenile. I cringed for most of the book. The characters had no actual chemistry.
I don’t feel like the FMC was consistent. The MMC said the thing that attracted him to her was an innocence and even how we were introduced to her was very innocent but when they got together she became this tough, crash out chick. I understand people evolve but it wasn’t executed well if that was the intention.
I really enjoyed this one. I don't often read mafia romance anymore but I'm so happy I picked this one up. The way that Kenneth L O V E S Harley is so freaking good. And tbh it's fairly mafia light. He's down bad and it's ooey gooey love despite the fact he runs... bad things I can't discuss on the zon. lol
I loved the ending/epilogue. As if I didn't think he could melt my heart more, this man showed up and showed out and gave his Baby the world and I absolutely adored it. I loveeeed Ava and Wild too and I can't wait to see if they get their own story.
The audio was fantastic. Trei Taylor and Midnight Michael did a wonderful job with these characters and I loved this listen. Thank you so much to Podium Audio for the advanced copy!
Nek never misses, and I must say this book demonstrated her creativity on another level. The way the interactions took place in each scenario were exemplary! I love the relationship between Uno and his brothers because they are stepping behind each other against anybody. Now, that's an unbreakable bond! I'm happy to see the Bordeaux's make an appearance, too. Skip's a mysterious character whom I hope we'll get to learn more about in the future. 😍 Though Carlos should've been somewhere soaking his tail in ice, he was still causing trouble. Oh, but he soon learned his dreams and nightmares were one and the same.
I just love Uno! I knew he was goi g to be a force when he was introduced in the Dreaux brother series. He definitely met his equal in a different way in Harley. She is that hardworking go-getter that finds the positive & right when she almost caved her came to rescue her! I love the jokes between the two, the love, the rawness! This book has it all & will definitely have you trapped! Mal & Carlos definitely got what they deserved & I LOVED seeing my Jules ❤️ & Dre is amazing. I’m ready for Wild & Skip! Ava I wanna see what you talking about as well. This was fun!
Yes! Uno is definiteli HIM! He handle things wit finesse and he not wit the nonsense. He wanted harley and shut everythin dwn when they connected! Aww...they go together well, tht wild is hilarious 😂 i love him too lol, skip is laid bck, quiet, i love him too😂 them brothers🥰, anyway, carlos, carlos, carlos lol, i could imagine the rottin stench tht was cmin frm him jules did a number on him, i read the boudreaux series and jules! Nothin to play wit, u hve got to read them b4 u read this one to understand carlos demise! A walkin corpse🤦🏾♀️ anyway! I absoluteli loved readin this book! It was funni, had action allat! Im on to the next one! U did tht?
After reading Roxier, Boko and Dre , I wanted the Mills to have that same fast energetic energy, but Kenneth didn’t quite make the cut. He was and mind you had to be polished because of his position, but I was hoping my first Mills to give me the blueprint, but I have 2 other brothers to get on with. Between Jordan and Adrian, I am hoping to get a top like Roxier and maybe a little bit of Boko, but since I am familiar to this ( my family is Haitian) I am not too inclined to read it, but it was still entertaining. In the meantime, I am going to see about Jordan a surprisingly it’s with Mimi Dreaux, humm🫣 we will see..
