After enduring years of darkness, Lexi now has the happy life she has always dreamed of. Settling into the blissful routine of normalcy, she believes that all of her troubles are finally behind her. Until one fateful morning when a handsome stranger rips her away from everything she holds so dear.
Finding herself inexplicably drawn to her seductive captor, Lexi struggles with the wanton feelings he stirs within her. With the line between right and wrong blurring, can she escape his obsessive grasp and return to the safety of her new life? Or will she cave into his wicked desires, knowing full well that he is the only one who will ever understand who she truly is?
A bit different format than I'm used to, and a bit of trouble clicking with this in the beginning since I'm so used to reading first person POV.
While I got used to it in enough time, some new parts didn't seem to be added as organically as I thought they should've or could've been? However I'm not the writer so I couldn't tell you how I wished the information would've been brought into the story.
However, not a bad lil story to start 2026 off and I'm eventually going to read part two:)
This book is dark and twisted. It sucks you in immediately and you can't stop reading. It is fast paced with so many twists and turns.
Talk about obsessive/possessive MMC- that is Kade. And like, you are rooting for him and Lexi but also, like questioning your morals. But you will keep reading lol.
This book……ohhhhh this book. Mine is a twisted and toxic dark romance with psychological elements that sucks you in from the moment it begins. It’s not a long read but everything in it makes an impact. Kade is the definition of obsessive MMC and I am here for it. Lexi isn’t a pushover though and is a survivor through and through. I genuinely couldn’t guess where the story was going and was hooked until the very end. PLEASE READ THIS BOOK I CANNOT RECOMMEND IT ENOUGH ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
MINE By Summer Riley is a dark, twisted, love/hate romance between Kade (captor) and Lexi (captive) who both manipulate to try to get the upper hand in this toxic relationship. Kade obsesses over Lexi who is battling her feelings for her captor... with what's right and what's wrong? Lexi also has her own secrets that she is trying to keep tucked away and when it all unfolds it takes off with no turning back. This romance will keep you on the edge of your seat until the last page. It will leave you wanting more from this twisted love story.
Get ready for Part two of the Duology. xo sweetheart.
Please note that this content may be explicit. Recommended reading the trigger warnings before proceeding to ensure.
This book is a must-read for anyone seeking a novel that masterfully combines dark romance, psychological twists, and explicit themes, including kidnapping, in a quick yet captivating and complex narrative.
Summer's writing in Mine is phenomenal, drawing you into the plot of two morally ambiguous main characters through a third-person POV, offering insight into their alternative selves, and culminating in a cliffhanger that leaves you with chills and eager for more.
So when does love become obsession? When does obsession become anxiety that leads to compulsions of kidnapping? When do finally we see that love turn into Obsessive Love ? Summer Riley brings all those questions forward with Kade kidnapping his “True Love” because only he can protect and love her because only he understands her.
Kade is as darkly twisted as he is handsome his mind has convinced himself that Lexi is the one , his “true love” but Lexi definitely has an opinion on that. This dark romance definitely does not skimp on Lexi voicing those opinions to Kade or to herself in regards to being kidnapped by a sex on a stick…or her on his stick. A stick Kade is more than happy to let her ride.
Believe me when I say you will not be disappointed by to little spice . Summer drives these two unhinged characters towards each other being it fighting or fulfilling every dark fantasy a dark romance should fill. She brings us through a rollercoaster of thoughts and feelings as she drops us into the minds of two insane individuals who just happen to be wickedly hot as hell.
Take a step into a world of obsession, love , hate, and murder that will make your heart race and body sweating as it edges you to an ending that just may surprise you.
I didn’t particularly like the FMC…I think her name was Lexi? Not sure, but couldn’t be arsed with her. I kinda liked Kade but then realised Lexi was just another girl on his list that he liked a little more…
I hated the way the POV was written… I’m probably being very harsh, but I was hate reading, so yeah…
A note, this book is in 3rd person. I read the book alongside the audiobook which was pretty fantastic. I definitely recommend doing both if you enjoy an immersive experience.
Lexi is living her boring, predictable life with her dull boyfriend Leo when she *meets* (is abducted by 😭) Kade. He is obsessed with Lexi and thinks (knows 🥲) she's "the one". The entirety of her captivity there's only one thing that remains true for Kade: Lexi is his. She belongs to and with him.
Meanwhile Lexi is in the fight of her life not only physically trying to escape her captor, but mentally and emotionally as well because *Stockholm Syndrome*😭. It has her thinking everything from: does she have legitimate feelings for Kade (her captor🙃) or is her body just betraying her mind as she does what she must to survive and escape? Should she escape and go back to Leo and the vanilla life Kade ripped her away from, or is she better off in Kade's psychotic albeit sexy, strong arms??? Is Kade someone who not only brings out but accepts her darkside?? And to top it off, their chemistry is anything but vanilla 😮💨. The whole situation has her internal atmosphere so messy 😭🙃 and I was eating it up. The psychological push and pull had me captivated.
Kade tells Lexi she isn't just a random mark, he's been "watching" (stalking 😥😅) her and he knows everything about her, even the dark secrets she thinks she's hidden 👀... Reading the layers these characters peeled back was entertaining 😅. Just when you think you know what's going on, or how they will react to a situation it's upended.
This is a duet. There is a cliffhanger, and I did scream at my e-reader before getting the next book, Ours, immediately on KU. I'm excited to finish Kade and Lexi's story. Make sure to check the trigger warnings as this is a dark romance.
Well i finished it. Thank goodness it was only 200 pages. Pages and time i struggled through but there you go.
Kade- Serial killer of all and for this story 6 previous women he may or may not have called his. Currently this is is next woman, who from his pov which we see throughout should know she is his, must love him after being kidnapped and drugged and will bend for him of course.
Lexi- FMC taken will not back down, a fighter but has a dark past. Will do whatever she needs to to get free i clouding pretending to love Kade, sleep with him and all that.
Pro- She is a fighter Con- The whole book.
Spoilers ahead- We learn he is in the mob. Is an underboss for this crime family. She k kws about them. She is no innocent vivtim. She has also done some henious stuff and he seen her do some of this as well.
There is a scene in this where the words nighty is used to describe lingerie and negligee so much times, my eyeballs wanted to fall out.
This wasn't dark in the slightest, a bit dubious but hey he waited for consent to lick her pussy. Trying for tropes here a lot but it was bad.
I hated I got the next book in this series because of a recommend on this book. Urghhh will not recommend myself to anyone who wants a good book to read. Its bad and not worth the time.
This is my first book by the author, and I’m honestly amazed! From start to finish, I couldn’t put it down. I saw the promo video for the second book directly from the author, and now I’m even more excited to read it!
The story kept me on edge, especially with curiosity about the abductor, who is so calculated and unpredictable. I didn’t expect the reveal about who they really were. Usually, thrillers give me suspense, but this one made me truly feel what the FMC was going through. The author’s detail is incredible! Even though it’s not written in first-person POV, you still understand all the characters’ thoughts and emotions, including the extras.
Instead of being scared for the abductee, I found myself confused… Should I actually like the sick abductor? 😅 This story had me questioning my own morality! 🤭By the end, I wasn’t scared to see who was with her. I was excited! 😅
Big thanks to my friend Sarah for telling me about this book. I can’t wait to dive into the next one!
I have read a few books by Summer so I knew I had to read this and boy oh boy did this book deliver!!
Right from the start this grabs you and does not let go! Kade starts out abducting our fmc Lexie. She obviously hates him right away because hello he kidnapped her. She learns he has actually been watching her for awhile and he is head over heels for her. She tries several escape attempts but they all fail. Kade is just not having that so he moves them to in the middle of nowhere where she can't be found.
The spicy is FLAMING in this book! Like even I was like WOW! this man knows what he's doing!
Kade soon find out him and Lexie aren't so different and that makes him even more obsessed! And after that ending I immediately started book two! I could not put this down, it's that good! I finished it in two days which is quick for me! I absolutely loved Kade & Lexie's story so so much! I highly recommend to all my dark romance readers! <3
Summer Riley did what she had to do with this book! It is absolutely spectacular. It’s a little more than a novella, but she packed everything into it so well.
This book did not go the way I was expecting it to or trying to predict in my mind and I am not mad about it in the slightest.
Kade is everything you in a dark romance MMC, definitely had me believing they were meant for each other, and that Leo could shove it. Lexi truly embodies the conflicting emotions you’d likely feel in a situation like this. Only a few spicy scenes, but they’ll definitely satisfy.
I’m hoping in the next book that we will get a little more backstory on Nikki and of course the series of events that led up to the ending.
What happens when two unhinged people meet? One as Captor the other as Captive? Secrets and Past Trauma help build the world's Kade and Lexi live in and it makes for one hell of a read
"Mine" is wonderfully written, Kade is deliciously dark and twisted yet also a cutie pie? Lexi is strong as hell, conflicted in her desires and battling her own demons but when they both collide trying to out manipulate each other.. oh boy what a ride we go on!
Possessive and Toxic to the core, swimming in dark fantasies their relationship is definitely a Rollercoaster and this series is not for the faint of heart
3.5 ⭐️ You have to know it’s written in 3rd person which can be take a while to get used to it. For me, it worked out after a few pages.
You’re looking for an overly obsessive/possessive MMC & a FMC that is torn between her feelings for her captor as well as a twisted story where you don’t know where everything will end up? Try Mine & you have to read Ours to answer some questions! 👀
Over all I really enjoyed this but I feel some parts could needed some more context here & there. Some information feels a little thrown in your face. But if you want to read some unhinged MC’s I would recommend trying Mine! 🙌🏻
I’d give this like 3.5 stars. I liked that it was a quick read, but am not a fan of insta love. It’s a duology, we could’ve had the FMC get to know the MMC more before throwing around the word love. I liked the spice, and I also liked how the FMC actually went through with her plans and escaped/fought back. Some other reasons I gave this a low rating: -hate the nickname “sweetheart” -pregnancy trope 😫 -the whole FMC with what I assume is dissociative identity disorder ? came out of nowhere -the use of “svelte form” to describe FMC body was said way too many times -third person POV 🤢

𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐞 is a dark romance novella with TW/CW’s so please check those out. 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐞 captivated me from the very first paragraph. The only reason I didn’t finish sooner was due to life and responsibilities. I love this sick, twisted couple, Lexi and Kade. It’s a whirlwind of angst and fascinating to watch as Lexi succumbs to her darker side. The spice was spicing and the ending was Oh. My. Gods. You have to read it!
Dark, twisted, and dangerously addictive—MINE by Summer Riley is a psychological thriller with a sizzling romance that will leave you questioning everything. Kade and Lexi’s dynamic is an intoxicating mix of obsession, manipulation, and undeniable chemistry. From the moment Kade takes Lexi, their cat-and-mouse game is as thrilling as it is unsettling, blurring the lines between fear and desire.
The writing pulls you in with its intense pacing and mind games, and Kade’s possessiveness walks the razor’s edge between swoon-worthy and completely unhinged. Lexi, on the other hand, is no damsel in distress—she’s smart, strategic, and fighting for her survival. But as the story unfolds, it’s clear there’s more to her than meets the eye.
With plenty of spice, psychological tension, and a gripping push-and-pull dynamic, this book isn’t for the faint of heart. If you love dark romance with morally gray characters and a bit of madness, this one will keep you hooked! And that ending? Chills.
I devoured this book from the beginning to the end! She is Tiny BUT MIGHTY!!! I couldn't put this book down and finished it one day! I can't wait until book #2 comes out! :) Summer you're a genius, and your writing style is a chef's kiss! Thank you for getting this book out there! I loved this journey with Lexi and Kade! <3
Honestly, the story was interesting, but the writing was absolute shit. I hated the POVs and how they were written. It was one thing to hear from the FMC and the MMC, but to hear from other people's perspective like the waitress, the paramedic, and Leo's POV was just awful. Especially how it was switched with simply a paragraph. Absolutely hated it. The story itself is why I gave it 3 stars.

A dark and twisted tale that pulls you in from the start. This was a short and super easy read, perfect for when you need a break after a heavier book. I was fully hooked the whole way through—the plot is gripping, and the spice level is definitely up there! Ideal for a quick, intense escape.
Dark, twisty romance- quick and intense. In this first half of the Possession Duology, “Monsters recognize monsters” is definitely the theme of this tale and what draws our MC’s eye to his ‘love.’ Written in classic third person prose, we get to be the fly on the wall as events take place and enjoy this wicked ride from start to … perfect part two set up. ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
the writing was absolute shit. also i hated the POVs and the way they were written. as the writing was confusing hero stalked and kidnapped the heroine but he had done the same thing previously to other six women and killed them.
If you're looking for a quick dark stalker captor/captive romance with some twists you aren't expecting this is perfect! The ending definitely has me intrigued and wanting to start Part 2
