Marcie Pérez is ready for her next chapter. Fresh out of the pre-law program at Western Michigan University and crumbling under the weight of her longstanding — and at times abusive — relationship, Marcie hits the road for a weekend with her friends.

But her effort to blow off steam takes an unexpected, horrifying turn during the group’s visit to Oaktown Mall in Cedar Rapids. The “dying mall” is decidedly eerie, a victim of its time, and Marcie’s unease turns to outright terror when she opens a door and unknowingly steps into a new world — one with dark-mouthed storefronts, abandoned animatronics, blood-stained floors, monsters waiting in the shadows, and no way out.

As the world she once knew continues to turn without her, Oaktown Mall seems determined to kill — and living in the shadows of reality, Marcie and a small group of strangers learn firsthand what happens when a once-celebrated community hub goes dark.

With time ticking down to the mall’s ultimate demolition and deadly creatures growing bolder, Marcie is running out of time to escape. And a single, unspeakable question continues to gnaw at What happens if they can’t?

I need more like this!

This was better than I expected. A sentient mall with dangerous creatures and likable characters - it has it all. It feels like a much longer book, but you get sucked in immediately and you want answers. It moves swiftly and the discoveries move it along at the perfect pace. This is well done and I would love to see more like this. Nothing like a mall with nostalgia. As our world becomes what it is now, you could almost see certain malls, perhaps one near you, becoming sad about the passage of time with less people walking its halls and bring life to the building. It too wants the joy of yesteryear. Definitely give this one a chance!

I enjoyed Flipped as an engaging thriller/horror novel with strong female characters.
