She was never meant to exist. Now the gods will do anything to erase her.

Vera has spent her life in a quiet town, never questioning the strange mark on her skin or the feeling that she was meant for something more. But when shadowed creatures crawl out of nightmares and into her reality, she learns the terrifying truth—she is being hunted.

Rescued by Aedric Vaelthorne, a battle-hardened hunter sworn to protect humanity from the monsters lurking in the dark, Vera is thrust into a world of forgotten gods, ancient magic, and creatures that should not exist. No one knows why the gods have set their sights on her—but Aedric is certain of one the gods do not hunt without reason.

As they fight for survival, Vera and Aedric are drawn together by something more powerful than fate—but the closer they become, the more dangerous it gets. Because Vera isn’t just being hunted.

She is changing.

The gods whisper her name. The monsters crave her blood. And Aedric is the only thing standing between her and the truth—a truth that could bring the gods to their knees… or destroy her entirely.

📖 A dark and atmospheric fantasy perfect for fans of A Court of Thorns and Roses, Fourth Wing, and The Witcher, Unwritten is the first book in an epic saga of forbidden power, dangerous love, and a war between mortals and gods.

TNN ARC Review

Unwritten is a sharp, emotional, and immersive start to a series that promises as much heartbreak as hope. The world feels alive, the gods are deliciously treacherous and the slow burn romance will leave you breathless for book two.

I really enjoyed this book.

Perfect for readers who crave dark myth, high stakes and romance worth suffering.

The Hollow Gods Series Book One
By Anais Coker

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶

☕️ Emotionally Charged Fantasy
🗡 One Bed
☕️ F0rced Pr0ximity
🗡 Found Family
☕️ Slow Burn
🗡 Enemies to Lovers
☕️ Forgotten Gods
🗡 Touch her 💀
☕️ And so much more!

Unwritten throws you into the action from the get go where Vera (the FMC) is casually living her everyday life working at the Cafe she has owns and has run for years, when these two Hunters walk in and everything changes, not only does she feel a familiarity she can't explain with one of them, but within minutes of them being there chaos breaks loose and there are suddenly these monsters with hollow black eyes that do not belong.

The Hunters (Aedric 😍 and his brother Nerian) help Vera escape to her home where they find a mysterious letter left by her grandmother telling her to find answers of who she is and to go with the hunter (the grandmother nowhere to be found).

So begins their epic adventure of monster sl@ying, secret uncovering, curses, self-discovery and a scorching tension 🔥 because let's be honest a handsome brooding hunter who thinks he doesn't deserve love is just a different kind of attraction right? Right?

Though I do believe his brother may be my pick 😉🤭

But just how far are these monsters willing to go for their master to get to Vera, and just what will Vera learn about herself in the process?

I adore this series so far and absolutely cannot wait to read book two, Anais what an absolute pleasure it has been to read your work 😍

Unwritten is available now on Amazon Na KU 😘🖤

I read this book thanks to the amazing naughty nook book club and cheers to them because this was fabulous!!

If u love romantasy give it a read I lovedddddd it!!

4.5 stars 🌟 I will be buying the physical book ASAP for a reading trophy 🏆

The way the author changed up the writing from the fmc to the mmc you could really feel the masculinity and femininity coming through it was different and I couldn’t get enough…

I really enjoyed that we get straight into the action and story and the author built the world and the characters together as we went along.

The banter between the 2 men is great and the look I love a broody yearning mmc and take no crap fmc so I was hooked and couldn’t put the book down I literally read it in 2 days actually reading on my phone and iPad so I didn’t have to stop reading 😂😂..
The story flowed well and I felt like there wasn’t any slow bits through the entire book, I am 💯 ready for the 2nd book 😱 can not wait ❤️❤️.

The vibes of acotar x Witcher is definitely true and if u loved those stories you will absolutely devour this give it a go you won’t be disappointed .

Fans of Supernatural, The Witcher and basically any fantasy TV series this one's for you.

If you love A Court of Thorns and Roses, Powerless, From Blood and Ash, I genuinely believe you will enjoy this books.

Straight away, you are thrown into action from chapter two and it is great. No time wasting, straight into it. I love it.

Yes the book is not perfect however, a book is never perfect and that is the whole point of reading. It is meant to make you feel frustrated, amused, intense, confused and so many more emotions.

The characters are so well written and let me just say, Nerian is so sassy, I absolutely love it. The world building is amazing and I was lucky to score a collectors edition which came with a printed map which is epic. I love it!

I can't wait to read continue the saga.

Okay, so here’s the thing: Unwritten is not a perfect book. Not even close. The writing is not earth shattering, the editing is shaky, and if Aedric sighs, grunts, or broods “Vera” at me one more time, I might stage an intervention.

But despite all that? I could. not. stop. reading. it.

What it’s about (without spoiling too much)
Vera is a small town girl whose normal life goes up in smoke when dark, shadowy monsters appear, two broody, dark strangers “adopt” her (far too easily I think), her grandma up and disappears and she starts to realise she might be something more than human.

Enter ancient gods, divine mysteries, runes, curses, and the big reveal: she’s at the centre of a prophecy that could literally change the world.

Oh, and of course there’s broody hunter boy Aedric, sunshine snarky brother sidekick Nerian, and a grumpy/sunshine slow burn romance that had me cheering and groaning in equal measure.

What worked for me:
- Vera. She’s not a martyr, she’s not silent, she pushes back. She’s dimensional, deep, and throws out one-liners that had me highlighting like mad. My favourite?
“You’re not just saving me,” she whispered. “You’re making me strong enough to save myself.”

- Nerian. Comedic gold. 10/10 would read his spin-off banter book.

- The lore. It’s a little shakey, but has moments of gold. We meet Vaelith, the Hollow Mother of pain, torment and fallen justice - who’s got a serious vendetta against our sweet FMC. Plus whispers of “forgotten gods” who are worse still. It’s a mythos with teeth and I want more.

- The tension. Look, the slow burn is slow, but there’s payoff and it’s got those moments that hit like a truck: “You are the light in every shadow. The hope in every day. If there’s anything worth fighting for, it’s you.” (page 125, and yes, I swooned.)

The tropes.
* One bed? ✔️
* Grumpy/sunshine? ✔️
* Banter for days? ✔️
* Divine mystery quips? ✔️
* Broody male lead with tragic backstory? ✔️

What didn’t quite land:
- World building wobbliness. If magic died out when the god of power peaced out, why does everyone casually talk about magic, runes, and power like it’s old news? It should feel more shocking, more earth-shattering, and instead it’s just… there.

- Continuity slips. Sometimes the book forgets if they’re walking or riding, camping or staying at an inn - it’s not major, but it does distract from the moment.

- Editing oopsies. Repeated lines, awkward phrasing (the dreaded “she let out a breath she didn’t realise she was holding”), and a general lack of polish. It breaks the flow and pulls you out of the story.

- Aedric. Sorry, but the man’s dialogue could be replaced with a soundboard of sighs, grunts, and broody name-calling. He has his moments but for most of the book he feels flatter than Vera deserves.

The verdict:
I have a love/hate relationship with this book. It frustrated me, it distracted me, but it also hooked me, made me swoon, and left me wanting more. The premise is epic - lost child of gods, hidden fate, curses, a heroine who could change the world and even though the execution stumbles, the vibes carry it.

So yeah. It’s a 4-star read for me. Four for the potential, the mythology, the banter, and Vera herself. Not five because the repetition and editing made me want to throw my Kindle across the room.

Would I recommend it?
Absolutely, if you love a messy-but-promising fantasy with classic tropes and emotional gut-punch lines. Just… go in knowing it’s raw and lacks polish. Think of it like that friend who shows up late to brunch in mismatched socks but makes you laugh so hard you forgive them.

And yes, the ending is a cliffhanger (total Romeo and Juliette vibes). Am I still picking up book two? Duh, of course.

Captivated and action right from the start!!
Unwritten was a great read, i feel there could definitely be character expansions unless thats the aim of the next book?
I really enjoyed the fact it was a bit of romance with a bit of fantasy mixed in.
I found it was a great read from my other books. It wouldnt be something id usually grab for myself but can definitely recommend to young adults into that genre

TNN ARC review - This pulls you straight into a dark, myth-filled world where gods, monsters, and mortals collide. The FMC is a strong yet vulnerable heroine, and the MMCs brooding protector role brings all the tension you’d want in a romantasy. It’s raw in places, but the story is captivating and sets up a really exciting series.

DNF at 90pgs/ch10/17% -

I really wanted to love this book. It was marketed for all the things I like and the special editions coming out soon look gorgeous. Unfortunately this book redefined bad writing for me. I would’ve guessed it didnt have an editor had I not seen posts on IG about the author sending it off to an editor. So they definitely need a new editor.

Anyways to the meat of why I dnfed a book I thought was perfect for me. The writing mood starts of overly dramatic, every sentence feels like it’s trying to stand out and punch you with moody atmosphere except it doesn’t work when every sentence is doing that, nothing stands out anymore. Especially when almost every sentence followed the same structure and length. There was no variety. If it was a satire then sure but it most definitely isn’t.
But that I could’ve endured and ignored as me being in a bad mood. The thing that royally pissed me off was when the character we were in the POV of, knew things they shouldn’t have. The example is thus (paraphrased):

“2 strange men walk into my pub” *proceeds to wax poetic about dreamy eye contact and query why they are so mysteries* “*insert character name they were not introduced to* then proceeds to walk towards the corner”
HOW DID THEY KNOW THEIR NAME? Like how did an editor miss that the character somehow gained knowledge they shouldn’t have had. Unfortunately it didn’t happen just once. She was attacked by a monster and named it (let’s say they said they were attacked by a werewolf, and then says “oh a werewolf attacked me) which didn’t seem weird at first because you never know what’s common knowledge in a fantasy book, but then proceeds to go “what was that [monster]” again making zero sense. And also just straight up grammar mistakes like saying like instead of liked in a sentence that demands the latter (honestly fire whoever the editor is or get a real one if it’s a family friend sorta situation)

There was also some weird word choices that felt out of place like fling, one night stand and snacks (as a verb) they felt too modern and I’ve read plenty of fantasy to easily think of replacement words that don’t sound so out of place.

I do also wish in all the marketing that the author had mentioned that they’d essentially copied the premised of the winchesters from supernatural. I actually have no issue if someone admits it in their marketing that their story is fantasy Dean Winchester but they didn’t so instead the first 10 chapters was me rolling my eyes at all the similarities.

Again all the cringe things I could’ve gotten through (maybe) if it wasn’t so poorly edited purely because I just wanted to like it so bad and I’m too busy right now for a good read anyhow. I did see in ARCs for the SE a question on if we’d read the currently available version which has me holding out hope that maybe just maybe in April when it’s released again it’ll have a major overhaul but sadly I’m not optimistic because in my opinion if someone’s okay letting this quality of work be published they are lacking the skills for better or don’t have sufficient attention to detail.

Sorry but don’t bother with this book.

PS: the book wasn’t a true epub it was similar to a pdf where it was screenshots essentially of a page which was super annoying because I prefer epubs so I can change fonts etc.

Oh gods what a book!

I finished this last night at 3am because I was hooked. This story follows the self-discovery journey of our FMC Vera as she embarks on a quest with two hunters. Aedric is our grumpy, grey, hot MMC and his brother Nerian is both the brains and the comedic relief.

I absolutely adored the banter between the brothers and Nerian is fast becoming my favourite. I loved his ability to bring light to every situation but also the seriousness and sensitivity around Vera and when the situation needed it.

Aedric is our loveable grump who will watch the world burn to protect those he loves, throwing himself into the fire to help fuel it. I really hope between Vera and Nerian they can help him stop feeling like he needs to carry the weight of the world. He’s traumatised as heck and I’m hoping his arc will lead to a path of healing.

Our FMC Vera is everything I love in a heroine. She’s scared, she doesn’t know what she’s doing, but she uses that to fight her way through the world and all the uncertainties around her instead of backing down. She grows so much in this story in so many ways. I don’t want to spoil it so I won’t say too much more!

Overall fantastic story. I can’t wait for book 2!

Meet Vera - a fresh faced cafe owner. She lives with her grandmother and enjoys nothing more than sketching in her journal and serving a great cup of coffee! She is the human embodiment of joy and positivity.

Meet Aedric - a brooding lad with the occupation of Hunter. He is doomed to walk the forgotten paths of the world fighting the puppets of the Gods, along side his brother Nerian. Aedric enjoys dwelling on his legacy driven fated and expecting the worst in life.

Meet Nerian - a man made almost entirely of humour. Never expect Nerian to confront a problem without a witticism to break the tension. If Nerian is stressed, girl you’d best believe you’re fucked! He is perfection.

Meet Eldros - this place didn’t come to play. A world of demons, Gods, hollows, moths that literally suck years from you and that’s just to name a few.

Now let’s throw our three main characters into the mix. How will they fair? You’ll have to read to find out.
Who will win? Bitch, I don’t know it’s only the first book and Anais Coker decided to leave us straight up hanging on that final chapter!!!!

Read if you enjoy the following;
- grumpy/sunshine
- one bed at the inn (they stay at quite a few inns!!)
- a library cast straight from one’s soul
- soul-bound (mates)
- I want to bang you, but I’m ill fated!
- the sexiest funniest side character. Seriously I’m having deja vu to Lucien! Like Aedric is hot and broody, but Nerian is right there! He’s right there Vera! Like, right there!!!!!
- trials of Gods
- monsters spawned right from the gates of hell!!!

Anais has a way with building worlds and plopping you in the middle of their majesty. The only thing I desperately wanted from this book, which I found progressed more as the story unfolded, for the readers to stay longer in a moment and for it to be built upon more. The story is very fast paced and I would love more time just to sit with a place or an emotion.

That would help me to be even more invested in this beautiful world!

You are the light in every shadow, “ he whispered. “The hope in every day. If there’s anything worth fighting for, it’s you. And then- he kissed her.

I’m speechless… no words…. this book (for clarity it’s 4.5 stars) 🥹
Firstly Anais round of a-fricken-plause!!!
Also thank-you so much for trusting me with this ARC. When I tell you support our indie authors this book is one of the many reasons why.

The story follows a young woman by the name of Vera. One day she’s enjoying the simplicity’s of life. Owning a small town cafe and living with her adoring grandmother until the moment that changed EVERYTHING.

Suddenly her world now includes shadows and creatures that should not even exist. The kind of creatures you can only dream about in nightmares. Vera is confused and terrified with nowhere to go or no knowledge of what to do. In comes a hunter by the name of Aedric (also quite handsome and rugged the way we like it 😉)

Together Aedric reveals his past and we see why this hard headed man is the way he is. He sees something in Vera worth protecting even if she has no idea what’s to come of her life. The only thing they know for certain is that this is exactly where they both need be and with who they need to be with.

Also what’s a brooding fantasy without some humour and whit. That’s where Nerian comes in - Aedrics brother. I love his character the light when their world feels almost unbearable. The one to take a serious moment and make an absolute innapropriate joke 🤦🏽‍♀️😂

This has all the tropes you want in a fantasy book.
Mystical world building, slow burn romance, hunters and monsters, strong heroine and so much more!

Highly reccomend and I can’t wait to see where this story goes in book 2.

📖 ~ book review ~

Unwritten - Anais Coker

3 ⭐️
2.5 🌶️

Unwritten follows the journey of Vera our FMC who is suddenly thrust into a life of monsters, hunters and gods all while trying to figure who and what she actually is. Aedric is our overprotective MMC with a tortured soul and a serious god complex. And then you have sweet, witty and sassy Nerian (Aedric’s brother) who honestly just reminds me of Jonathan Bailey with his slutty little glasses. It’s whole monster hunting brother duo is really giving Winchester Brothers (iykyk) and I am so here for it.

The story is unique and interesting and made me want to keep reading to find out what happens next. The spicy scenes were immaculately written. I wish there was a little more attention to detail and more detail/world building in general. At times it was a little choppy between scenes and there were a few holes in the plot, but overall it was a nice, easy, enjoyable read.

There were evidently some editing errors but the thing that really got to me, the thing I could not for the life of me understand, was the inconsistent mention of a god damn car 😂 honestly I thought I was going crazy. I have come to the conclusion that there was an original story written with a car and then it has been changed/rewritten to instead include horses to suit the time period and some of these scenes with the car were missed during this editing?!?!

Anywho, I will be reading the second book in this series as soon as it is released!

Read if you like:
• monster hunters
• hidden identity
• meddling gods
• sacrifice
• slow burn

Unwritten is an epic tale of hunters, demons, gods, and mortals.

We meet Vera, living a relatively ordinary life, until Aedric and Nerian Vaelthorne enter her world. From there, the story unfolds into an incredible journey of demon hunting, divine wars and trials, witches, spells, and ancient magic. Alongside this action is a romance that steadily builds and burns brighter as the narrative continues.

I was absorbed from start to finish, fully immersed in the characters and the world. The ending left me both satisfied and eager for more, and the Epilogue has me especially intrigued to see what comes next. Thank you so much for allowing me the opportunity to read this, what a journey to be part of!

For the author, one gentle note: there are a few inconsistencies in the text (for example, characters talking to other characters in their seat, then suddenly they're walking, or waking and then looking for somewhere to sleep again). Some transitional passages could help flow more smoothly. A professional edit would really help highlight the incredible story you’ve created and polish those minor bumps.

That said, these small issues never detracted from the reading experience. The heart of the story shines through, and I was truly amazed by the world you’ve built.

I received this book as an ARC, and this review reflects my genuine thoughts and opinions, shared voluntarily.

I absolutely love the concept of this story and am keen to see where it leads.

The romance tangled throughout the whole story where the FMC knows what she wants, and has the patience and understanding of the MMC to realise his feelings. But also a FMC who knows the right time to push.
Vera is a strong-willed woman who is also gentle, and perfectly balances Aedric out. Let's him sit into feelings he would normally push down or avoid.

Nerian, Aedrics brother, gives me Milo Thatch vibes but with the ability to fight like its noones buainess. And hes funny as.

The gods, the magic, the monsters, the balance of the world... i can't wait to discover more.

I did however lower the rating a fraction because of some repetitiveness that i felt was unnecessary, and there were some small inconsistencies that made be go back and reread some sentences.
Nothing huge but one sentence would mention the characters walking for hours but a couple sentences later it would reference someone shifting in their seat. So I'm thinking so are they walking or not?
There was also a couple of terms or phrases that gave the air of it being a different time period to the rest of the book (theres no time jumps).

In saying all that, none of it takes away from the story, it just pulled me out of it for a small moment while i wrapped my head around them.

Keen for book 2!!

Review of Advanced Copy received from Publisher.

She was never meant to exist and now she’s hunted by the Gods and has to decide what she will be before the Gods decide for her. Vera is faced with challenges and a world she never knew existed, but she is not alone. Strong friendships are forged along the journey for Vera to learn who she is. The dynamics between the main characters kept drawing me back to reading more of this book, you have Nerian a jokester and super mischievous, Aedric ever serious and fiercely protective and Vera unfaltering and strong, never broken by the revelations of her identity along the way.

In this story you’re introduced to a new world with new monsters and Gods. While there isn’t extensive world building, you can vividly imagine the monsters and Gods that they encounter along their journey. My favourite parts were the quiet moments where you witness the friendships develop and the lifelong bond between Aedric and Nerian. The ending of this book leaves you knowing there is so much more epic romantasy to come.

“She was never meant to exist. Now the gods will do anything to erase her.”

A dark and atmospheric romantasy that completely swept me away. Unwritten is everything I love about the genre, magic, forgotten gods, a slow-burn romance that hurts, and a heroine caught between fate and survival.

I was hooked by this book, I devoured it in a single day because I had to know what happened. The slow-burn tension between Vera and Aedric? Painfully perfect. And Aedric’s brother, Nerian, absolutely stood out with his humour, his banter balanced the heavy, intense moments so well. Total Supernatural hunter “old family business” energy, and I loved every second.

The writing is lush and immersive, and the pacing kept me glued to the pages. Plus, it features one of my all-time favourite tropes — only one bed at the inn!

The ending? it wrecked me (in the best way). If you’re a fan of ACOTAR, Fourth Wing, or The Witcher, this one belongs on your TBR. I cannot wait to read book two.

This one pulled me in straight away- two brothers, Aedric and Nerian, carrying on their parents’ work as hunters after they mysteriously disappeared. Enter Vera, who suddenly finds herself caught up in their dangerous world of monsters and gods. The setup gave me big Supernatural vibes, but with a romantasy twist.

The sibling banter is gold - Nerian’s teasing had me laughing out loud, especially when Vera joined in, and Aedric’s constant “Shut up, Nerian” never got old. The chemistry between Aedric and Vera is 🔥 (their training scenes? perfection), and chapter 27… absolutely worth the wait.

There were a few inconsistencies here and there, but honestly the storyline was amazing - dark, tense, and addictive. I couldn’t stop turning the pages. If you love moody fantasy, sibling dynamics, and sizzling slow-burn romance, this one’s for you.

This was great! A new epic fantasy series that is plot driven with a dash of romance.
Loved the slow burn & tension between Vera and Aedric, so good. Nerian kind of stole the show for me, loved his banter with his brother, Aedric, and Vera. Hoping he gets his time to shine a bit more in the following books.
Plot got a little boggy at some points but quickly picked back up and was overall exciting and gripping.

This is a super compelling dystopian fantasy, with magic, Gods and a slow burn love story that genuinely has you wanting to grab Aedric by the collar and shake some sense into him!!

The worldbuilding is fantastic, and the MMC & MFC are both people that you want to see get their happily ever after!

A special mention for Nerian. That guy straight up needs his own sit com. I would binge every episode.

Really looking forward to the next book and where our characters will be taken next!

Move over Sam and Dean Winchester, there's a new pair of Hunter brothers in town. If you love the Winchesters, you will adore Aedric and Nerian. If you like a strong female main character who knows her own mind, then you will absolutely fall in love with Vera. If you like your stories with a delicious slow burn, a pinch of banter and a side of mystery, then Anais Coker's 'Unwritten', the first book in 'The Hollow God's' series is your next favourite read of 2025. I need book 2 like yesterday!

This fantasy novel hooked me from the start with its storyline and slow-burn plot. While parts of it felt fragmented and the pacing dipped at times, the story always managed to reel me back in. Despite its flaws, it lays a great foundation and is well worth the read. Can’t wait to read what happens next!

This is a dark, emotional romantasy full of forgotten gods, dangerous magic, and a heroine caught between fate and survival. The FMC journey is gripping, and the chemistry with her protector, the MMC, adds a strong romantic pull. The story’s heart, atmosphere, and world-building make it a great read for fans of ACOTAR or The Witcher.

I was hooked from the first page. When I wasn't reading it, I was thinking about when I could read it. Not only was the story beautifully written, the world was all encompassing, and the slow burn was SLOW in the best way. I can't wait to see what comes next, and I can't wait to revisit this world with a re-read. I need everyone to read this so I can discuss, please and thank you.

This was absolutely breathtaking! A stunning new epic fantasy series that ignites your soul with its powerful plot, woven with just the right touch of romance that touches your heart. I was utterly captivated by the slow-burning tension and unspoken chemistry between Vera and Aedric—so intense, so real, it kept me on the edge of my seat. Nerian completely stole my heart; his witty banter with his brother Aedric and Vera added a spark that made the story come alive. Their dynamic honestly gave me serious Dean and Sam vibes from Supernatural—full of sharp jabs, brotherly love, and undeniable camaraderie. I can’t wait for Nerian to shine even brighter in the next books; he deserves his moment! The story pulls you deeper and deeper, gripping your soul with every page. Just when you think you’ve got it all figured out, the narrative twists and turns wildly, leading you down a path you never saw coming. It’s a thrilling, emotional rollercoaster that leaves you craving more with every heartbeat.
