A quiet heart. An unexpected connection. And a love that refuses to fade.

Eve
Life on the Norfolk coast is safe, predictable and small. I have spent years convincing myself I prefer it that way. Then a last-minute hiking trip to St Claire throws me completely off course. Aaron is charming, patient and disarmingly kind. We barely touch on the day we meet, yet he lingers in my thoughts long after I return home. What begins as a gentle friendship over emails soon becomes the brightest part of my days. And the closer we grow, the harder it is to ignore the truth. I want more. But wanting more means letting myself hope, and hope has a way of colliding with reality when you least expect it.

Aaron
I went to St Claire to clear my head, not to find someone I cannot seem to forget. Eve is quiet, clever and unexpectedly funny once she allows herself to breathe. Our emails become the best part of my week and seeing her again starts to feel less like a choice and more like something inevitable. Long-distance was never in my plans. Neither were the feelings that grow every time she trusts me with another piece of herself. And when life shifts without warning, I realise I have far more to lose than I ever imagined.

A tender, emotional slow-burn romance about connection, courage and the kind of love that changes the direction of your life long before you realise it.

This steamy romance is part of a series set in a shared world, but you don’t need to have read the others to enjoy it. Each story stands alone, though you might spot a few familiar faces along the way!

It contains adult content, please read the content warnings. The book is set in England and written in British English.

Dani Elias

46 books223 followers
Dani Elias writes swoony, steamy British romance about women in their forties who are very good at some parts of life and quietly unravelling in others. Her FMCs are relatable, flawed, funny, and fully human. Some are plus size, some are not, but all of them are centred, desired, and allowed to take up space in their own love stories.

Set mostly in small towns, with the occasional city romcom, Dani’s books are written in British English and focus on emotional connection, lived-in chemistry, and intimacy that deepens the relationship rather than dominating it. Her heroes are usually golden retriever cinnamon rolls with a side of nerdy dorkiness, because frankly, that’s the dream.

Based in Carlisle (UK), Dani writes romances for readers who want grown up love, real bodies, real feelings, and proof that happily ever after does not come with an age limit.

The Ramblers of St. Claire series. A walking group in a quaint little town and a farting dog that can clear the meadow. This time it's two outsiders that visit the town.

Eve and Aaron are cute. 2 people trying to get back out there. Their friendship starts via emails while their life moves on. Through their back and forth and their quick get away, their connection grows.

Elias has a way with emotion. You feel what her characters are going through. The ups and downs. The stress. The love. All of it. As always, loved it.

I absolutely loved this book! Eve and Aaron are just the sweetest match. The way that he understands and reads her needs is so selfless and beautiful. Dani always knows how to make you fall in love with the characters quickly. Absolutely in love with Bernard, he’s the best, haha.

I love this series of novellas. Characters in their 40s finding connections amid the beautiful scenery of Yorkshire Dales. Makes me want to book a walking trip asap. I liked how even though this was short, the characters were still given room to breathe and get to know each other in a realistic yet romantic way. And we can never get enough of Bernard.

Fated Paths 🌧️✨

This ARC is the first book I read by Dani Elias, so I want to thank you, Dani, for sending me this and to say that this was the first, but definitely not the last, of your books that I will read.

What an amazing surprise I found while reading Fated Paths. I didn’t read the first book in this series, but I will as soon as I can, because I just know it’s going to be really good.

One of the things I liked the most about this book is how mature both of our characters are. It is different reading a book where both characters are past their thirties. When that normally happens, it usually involves an age gap (which I love), but that’s not the case here.

I’ve said before that I’m not a fan of vacation romance, but oh, this one is so sweet! I loved the theme, how they are in the cold and the rain, and how that made everything cozier.

Eve is a reclusive girl. She is not very comfortable talking to new people, she doesn’t even like talking on the phone because she gets anxious, but for some reason, for her, it is easy to talk to Aaron.

Aaron is such an accommodating, understanding, and lovable guy. The fact that he can see from far away when Eve is uncomfortable, that he is open to her limitations, and that he tries to make her do things she wouldn’t normally do is beautiful.

They weren’t trying to find love; they were just spending time in a beautiful, quiet city. But as the title says, it’s clear to me that their paths were fated to cross. They had to be there at the same time, in the same group, so they could be happy in the future, so they could shake their loneliness aside and be together.

I loved this book. I loved the scenery, I loved the characters, I loved everything about it, and I am sooo thankful that this community gave me the opportunity to read it first. It is, without a doubt, a 5 ⭐ read for me and I would recommend it to everyone.🌧️✨

If you like “older” characters (meaning not 20 or 30 year olds) this one has characters in their 40s!
It’s short but somehow doesn’t feel like novela at all! 132 pages but it’s all well developed and executed and WITHOUT insta-love!!!

I don’t know what it is about Dani’s writing but her latest 3 releases were 5 star reads for me and once again I wasn’t disappointed with this one. From now on I don’t care about title/cover/blurb/tropes, I’m just blindly going to read anything Dani writes!

This is a short book but it doesn’t give novella vibes, somehow the story is well developed, maybe kind of concise, but it doesn’t feel rushed at all!

You have both main characters in their 40s, weekend getaway for both where they meet, British setting, MMC is coming out of the divorce, and the FMC is super shy, the loner type, can’t do small talk and all things like that, and she’s not a virgin but she kind of is (just trust me with this one 🤭).

They have such fun and bantery dialogue! There’s not a lot of lines I DIDN’T highlight.

The story has depth, is funny, but also will make you feel and break your heart a bit (but HEA is guaranteed!).
I loved their truth or dare game and there was email exchange but that was oh just the cutest!

Thank you Dani and HappilyBookedPR for the eARC 💜
I read it in just one evening!

I say this with every book I read by Dani Elias, but I am a fan of all of her books and will read every one that gets published. I devoured this book in the Ramblers of St Claire series.

I loved Aaron and Eve’s story. They started out as strangers and quickly became friends and eventually lovers. It was so beautiful to see their relationship develop and flourish. Aaron was so patient with her and I loved it. It definitely warmed my heart a little.

Also, I can’t write this review without mentioning Bernard. If you’ve read the other books in the series you know all about him and how much of a star he is. I love him so much and will never get tired of reading about him. I honestly think he’s my favorite character.

One thing that I love about Dani Elias’ books is that they always feature a healthy and mature relationship. There’s no toxicity and that’s hard to find in the romance genre sometimes. This will always be my favorite thing about her books.

Thank you so much to the author and Happily Booked PR for an advance copy of this book!

Fated Paths is a cute holiday romance with slow burn. This is Eve and Aaron's story, filled with modern letters and cute meet ups. Eve is shy and to herself, while Aaron is patient and charming. They both wanted a little getaway from their lives and came to St. Claire to breathe, but ended up on the same hike, which brought them closer together as friends. I love the patience Aaron showed Eve when he first met her, which made her feel comfortable opening up to him. I also love the way they started to open up more through the emails they shared. Their story is cute and romantic, but also has some unexpected moments that give you the feels. I love their chemistry and the swoon worthy trips they planned to meet up and get to know each other more. I really enjoyed their story and can't wait to read more.

I voluntarily leave an honest review of this gifted advance reader copy.

I’ve loved this series of novellas, its characters and the setting. Even though I did love Eve and Aaron especially their hot tub date and picnic date and their emails, I had hoped Aaron would be all about giving Eve plenty of pleasure instead of edging her in her second ever sexual encounter but that’s just a preference thing for me. I think most people will be satisfied with that steamy scene. I also enjoyed how they declared their love for each other and quickly moved forward into a life together. Thank you to author Dani Elias and Happily Booked PR for the opportunity to read this early!

***ARC Review***

She wants to get away ans be alone with her thoughts and he just wants to center himself and get his head straight. Our fmc, EVe, is shy and a loner. She prefers to blend into the background and go unnoticed. Our mmc, Aaron, is ex military and trying to get over a divorce. It ended on good terms, but he's still hurting. It's time to clear his mind.

This isn't an insta-love, this is a long distance, email driven, fall for you from a distance. The story has depth that ypu wouldn't expect from a novella. It isn't lacking in detail and the story flows freely and organically. I do wish we would have had a bit more of Eve and Aaron's relationship building, but even without the extra layers, it still worked.

All-in-all, it was a cute quick read and the perfect pallet cleanser between the harsher longer reads.

This was a really heartfelt, honest, and raw read for me. It touches upon a woman who struggles with anxiety/fear and a man who recently is out of a divorce and struggling to find his place in the world. This might be my favorite Rambler's story out of all of them! (and I have read all of them). I really love this author's style of writing and how it just pulls you in and makes you part of their world. I was so happy that Bernard made another appearance and an entrance, as always! I cannot wait to read more of Dani's books!

Fated Paths was a short and quick read.

I felt an immediate connection to the FMC, Eve. As a very introverted person, I saw so much of me in her. That desire to melt into the background, to go unnoticed, and to keep your thoughts and feelings tucked safely inside, I felt like I was looking in a mirror. Reading something that so perfectly captured what I’ve felt my entire life was both refreshing and comforting.

I really loved how Eve’s trip to Yorkshire became a turning point for her. Being in a new place allowed her to slowly open up and step into the person she had always wanted to be but was too afraid to show. To finally find your person, your people, when you are a shy individual, wow, it is like mana from heaven; so rare but so delicious. That aspect of the story was beautifully done and resonated with me.

Aaron was the sweetest MMC. To be able to see and connect with someone immediately, to see the true them that they have been hiding for so long and then to decide that you will be their comfort and their place of solace, wow, how romantic. I swooned. His goal was always to make Eve feel seen, appreciated, and special, and I loved how intentional he was about creating a soft place for her to land. Every shy person deserves an Aaron in their life.

This book was also super fun. What would a 𝐑𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐭. 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐞 book be without old Bernard?! It's always a good day when we get to spend some time with Mrs. Higgins and our favorite beagle. Seeing them again brought a smile to my face.

Overall, this was a good read. I do wish there was a bit more of Eve and Aaron getting to know and really falling for each other. They had great chemistry, but I wish it was a little bit stronger. But, this is a novella, a quick read, so it delivered exactly what it set out to do. I would definitely recommend this book, as well as the entire 𝐑𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐭. 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐞 series for anyone looking for a quick small town read with lots of romance, lots of laugh, and an amazingly funny beagle!

Thank you, @dani_elias_books and @happilybookedpr for the #gifted ARC.

Fated Paths is the third book in Elias' The Ramblers of St. Claire series. This slow-burn, small town, cozy romance features Eve and Aaron.

Eve (43) is a forensic linguist from Norfolk. She's always been shy and reserved, and prefers to be invisible. On instruction from her therapist, she's in Yorkshire for a few days.

Aaron (42) owns and operates a security company with his friend Will. The two have been friends since they were in the army together. Divorced for about 4 months, and needing a break from London, Aaron heads to Sunshine Cottage in Yorkshire. It is there that he meets Eve.

When going to join the Ramblers of St. Claire, Aaron spots Eve speaking with someone and looking uncomfortable so he steps in claiming to be her partner. The two end up walking together, mostly in comfortable silence. Not only does he see her, he finds it easy to talk to her. They spend time together while they're both in Yorkshire and agree to continue their new friendship via email. (Eve hates phone calls.)

Through their ongoing correspondence as well as another trip to Yorkshire, these two finally recognize their feelings for one another. There are promises to continue writing as well as trips to visit, but then Aaron goes radio silent and Eve fears he's just like everyone else.

Have I mentioned lately how much I adore Elias' writing? She is very talented in her character development, regardless of how long or short her book happens to be. This one is one the shorter side, but is equally delightful. She balances the sweet and the spicy, and has you rooting for the characters. I love that the characters in this one are in their 40s, because life continues even as you get older.

I loved Aaron's attentiveness and powers of observation. He took the time to see Eve and appreciate her exactly as she was. He never saw her as not being enough, even though that is how she's felt her whole life. She may be quiet but she is quite bright and clever. He sees that and appreciates it. There are aspects of Eve's persona that I found relatable, and it did my heart good to see her happy.

I have yet to read the other books in this series but I will rectify that as soon as possible. I love that it has a connection to the Ramblers as I recently connected with a local Ramblers group that I knew nothing about a month ago. This has created yet another connection for me to Eve's story.

I would be remiss in mentioning Bernard who certainly had be giggling on more than one occasion.

If you have not yet had the pleasure, pick up one of Elias' books. It doesn't matter which. They're all delightful!

Book 3 in the Ramblers of St Claire series is a quick read, coming in under 200 pages. Dani Elias packed so much into Fated Paths that it left me wanting more and feeling fulfilled all at the same time. This book burrowed into my heart for a few reasons. One, I love a shy character who is able to find themselves through the help of someone who already sees them clearer than anyone ever has. Two, my now husband and I did long distance for some time, so I could relate to everything our MCs go through when apart. Both our MCs are from out of town and have come to St.Claire’s to visit. I loved getting to see the town through new eyes and remembering what I love about this series.

Eve is our shy, quiet FMC who opens up so much as this book progresses. She challenges herself to step outside her comfort zone, but also meets someone who sees who she really is, even though they just met. She’s never felt seen in the way Aaron sees her. On top of that, he is easy to talk to and wakes something up inside her.

Aaron is newly divorced and just needs to get away from everything. When he sees a woman looking uncomfortable towards the person speaking to her, he steps in to “save” her. This starts their friendship. One they agree to keep going through email when they go back to their homes. As they share more and more, the feelings grow deeper, soon becoming more meaningful than either has felt in a long time.

Dani provides a wonderful story with wonderful characters, fun antics, and delicious romance. Not once did I feel as though something was missing in the story, despite its short length. I adored how Aaron met Eve where she was comfortable, never pushing, but also never shying away from what he was feeling. Eve is provided so much encouragement from Aaron and allows her to just be herself. An absolutely adorable read that brings something special to this series.

As always, review any author notes before reading.

Just finished Fated Paths by Dani Elias. It’s a shy FMC slow burn cinnamon roll MMC long distance like a virgin romance. And it is just that. It’s sweet full of patience by the MMC towards the FMC. It follows newly divorced man Aaron who needs a reset so goes on a mini holiday to get out of London so he goes to Yorkshire in the end of January. When it’s cold and miserable but it was perfect for him. He meets a fellow tourist Eve. Eve is very much a wall flower. She prefers being alone versus being in a crowed of people. But due to her therapy homework she has to spend a weekend doing socializing. So she goes to the same town as Aaron. They met on a hike… in the rain.. up hills. 1st who would want to trench in the heavy rain for fun? Anyways back to the summarizing. Aaron sees another person talking to Eve and can see she was uncomfortable and tense. So he played the boyfriend card to help her out. They walked together in silence at the end everyone went to the pub for hot chocolate and apple crumble, Aaron finds a corner outside protected from the rain with heaters so that’s where they sit together enjoying the quiet together. As their visit continues Aaron finds something to do with Eve, whether it’s a private spa evening, or a picnic in the back of his SUV. They talk about keeping in touch when they leave so they opted to emails. This is a novella so it’s a short read but everything flows amazingly. There’s parts where you laugh or smile, there’s parts where you want to yell just kiss already (which my husband thinks I’m crazy I did yell that once or twice lol) but it is so good. This is book 3 of the Remblers of St Claire. But you don’t need to read the other 2 to enjoy this book. I have yet to read the previous books but it made sense to me. I will definitely read the other 2 books in the series soon.

Soft. Soulful. Completely stole my heart.

FATED PATHS is the kind of love story that sneaks up quietly, sits beside you, and then suddenly you realize it has wrapped itself around your entire chest. Dani Elias writes tenderness like it’s a language, and Eve and Aaron speak it fluently.

This is a slow burn in the truest sense. Not flashy. Not loud. Just two people finding each other in the in-between moments. A hiking trip. A glance that lingers. Emails that turn into lifelines. The kind of connection that feels gentle but unshakable, like it was always meant to happen whether they were ready or not.

Eve broke my heart in the best way. She is quiet, careful, and so deeply human. Watching her want more while being terrified of hope felt painfully real. Aaron is patient, kind, and emotionally steady in a way that made me exhale every time he showed up on the page. He doesn’t rush her. He doesn’t demand. He simply stays. And that? That’s everything.

Their emails had me kicking my feet. The way they grow closer through words first makes the emotional intimacy feel intense and earned. When they finally share space again, it’s electric in the softest way. The steam builds slowly, naturally, and when it hits, it feels rooted in trust and longing rather than just heat.

This book is about distance, timing, courage, and choosing love even when it feels risky. Life gets messy. Plans shift. Feelings deepen whether you’re prepared or not. And somehow through all of it, this story remains warm and hopeful.

Eve and Aaron are genuinely cute together. Not loud, not dramatic, just right. The kind of couple you believe in long after the last page.

If you love slow burns, emotional connection, long-distance yearning, and romances that feel like a deep breath and a full heart, this one will stay with you. I adored it. 💙📖✨

This book was a moment of calm wrapped up in a sweet love story. I loved how much both characters bloomed in the quiet pauses other people seem to miss and it made this story all the better.

Dani Elias does a great job with this series of highlighting the untamed beauty that is Yorkshire. Although I’m a Lincolnshire gal I love my neighbouring county and completely understand the appeal. If you want a sweet, warm and touching love story wrapped in drizzly bracing walks, warm pubs and hot puds, then this is for you.

I’m in awe of Dani Elias’s ability to infuse her novellas with so much complexity and warmth in such a short period of time. Aaron is a 42 year old divorcee who escapes London to visit his close friends in Yorkshire, desperate to reset his equilibrium and take a breath. Eve is on a solo retreat from her ordinary, isolated life of work, work, work so she chooses a lovely spa hotel in the same Yorkshire village. Eve is extremely shy and struggles with anxiety, her past bad experiences have left her reluctant to open herself up to love and friendship. Her increasingly small circle is infiltrated but the very friendly locals and of course by the ramblers club. I loved watching her open up to Aaron and especially how he just took the time to see her, hear her and love her just as she is. Eve doesn’t drastically change, she simply finds someone who is perceptive to her needs and makes her comfortable. Aaron is a sweetheart and I loved him straight away.

The email exchanges between the two are so bloomin’ cute you’ll be kicking your feet and giggling.

I laughed, I cried and I swooned.

Loved it!

First and foremost I absolutely love this author this is my third book, I have read from her so far, and I just keep thinking that nothing can be better than the book I just read, and then she goes and knocks it out of the park for me. I have to say this one by far was my favorite, I wish the star rating did not just end at 5, cause this definately deserves more. Her books always manage to capture the flaws that we feel in ourselves, whether it be looks, or anxiety and over thinking, and they always seem to hit me right in the gut, I instantly feel connected to the characters and this read was the same. I connected with Eve a very reserved person who overthinks absolutely everything, who thinks that no one could ever love someone like her, Im that ackward person in social events, so this book had me hooked. The growth in both Eve and Aaron together and seperate was amazing to watch, they both became more of themselves it seemed, as well as kinda of fitting together like a puzzle piece relationship wise. Don't let me make you think that the author doesnt throw some curve balls, cause man I was not expecting what this book had in store for me, I went from laughing to crying and I mean deep crying, to crying happy tears at the end, I tore me apart in the best way, and makes the feelings this book made me feel a permanent place holder in my head. It was absolutely fantastic, and if that didint get you convinced the annoying cute beagle with diabolical gas will! You have to read this book, I can never do it justice.

This book is a sweet and heartwarming story about a shy FMC who prefers to stay out of sight and keep to herself. Wanting a break from her routine, she takes a small vacation to a quiet, beautiful place. There, she meets the MMC, who is also taking time off and staying in a cottage owned by his friends.

They first meet on a hiking day and quickly form a natural connection. Over the next few days, they spend time together, and what stood out the most to me was how easily the MMC understands her and her thoughts, her feelings, and her need for safety and gentleness. He is patient, kind, and thoughtful, always making sure she feels comfortable and secure.

Eventually, they have to return home, but they continue to stay in touch through emails. When the MMC later returns to the village and asks her to meet him there again, she agrees. Despite their growing feelings, the FMC struggles with fear and self-doubt, believing he won’t truly like her for who she is. But he does deeply and they finally get together.

The story takes an emotional turn when the MMC’s job requires him to travel to dangerous places, and something unexpected happens.
I loved and enjoyed this book so much, I found myself smiling throughout. The MMC is cute, gentle, and incredibly adorable, while the FMC is a truly beautiful woman, both inside and out. The ending made me tear up a little, but in the best way.

This book is beautifully written, full of warmth and emotion, and I would definitely recommend it to romance lovers who enjoy cozy, comforting stories with heartfelt connections.

Book Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Spice Rating: 🌶️🌶️/5

Fated Paths is a very quiet, gentle romance that leans fully into soft moments, patience, and emotional connection over plot or spice. This is a true slow burn where not much happens on the surface, but a lot is unfolding internally, especially for Eve. If you love cozy, introspective stories, this will likely hit better than it did for me.

Eve is a shy, reserved FMC in her 40s who prefers invisibility and routine, and I appreciated how grounded and realistic she felt. Her anxiety and discomfort in social settings were handled with care, and I found parts of her journey relatable. Aaron is the definition of a cinnamon roll MMC. He is patient, observant, and emotionally steady, never pushing Eve beyond what she is ready for. Their first connection during a hike and the quiet companionship that follows felt natural and sweet.

The long distance element and email correspondence were a highlight for me. Watching their bond grow through words before physical closeness added depth and emotional intimacy, even if the romance itself stayed very low key. That said, the pacing was slow enough that I occasionally found my attention drifting, and I wanted just a bit more tension or forward momentum.

Overall, this is a soft, comforting read with mature characters, gentle yearning, and a calm, cozy vibe. It did not completely sweep me away, but I can easily see this being a perfect fit for readers who enjoy understated romance, emotional safety, and slow burns that feel like a deep breath rather than a whirlwind.

This is Book 3 of Dani's 'The Ramblers of St. Claire' series and as always ot is beautifully written.

In this story we see some old faces as we read Eve and Aaron's story as they both escape to St Clarire for some R&R.

The entire vibe of this book is a bit different to the previous two books, it is calmer, a slow burn and tackles some historical trauma for both characters, showcasing how they have dealt with it and how they develop through the book.

Eve is a lovely character. She doesn't trust easily and basically lives a more isolated life then many female main characters Dani writes about. My heart broke for her when I learned about her past and I was hoping the slow burn wasn't too slow as these two definitely needed each other!

I loved learning more about Aaron as we only really have seen him in passing and he is exactly how I thought he would be ❤️. He is caring, calm and perceptive - he can read people! Plus we get a little visit from Will!!!!

Now onto the star of the show... Bernard. This plucky Beagle is BACK and causing more chaos with his rear end! There were lots of welcome comedy gold moments in this story to lighten the overall mood, plus who doesn't love seeing Bernard ❤️.

The story is beautiful and shows strength and resilience, two people finding each other on their 40s who didn't realise they needed each other.

A gorgeous story once again from the amazing Dani and I can't wait to see who is next up in the series and of course, who else's nose Bernard's bum damages in future 😆.

Fabulous as always!

I have officially read the whole series. I enjoy the small town vibes that story included and the fact that this is in England. It makes me want to visit the place myself after reading all the books. I love that all the couples in the stories before are in them and living their life happily. I believe Bernard the beagle is the star in all the books. There are always funny scenes about his poop clearing room full of people or a fart that makes people lose their senses. That dog is way too funny. Aaron who had started his life over again after wife cheating on him with another woman. I'm sure the pain of it was hard to get over again. I understand why he shut people out. Eve's reason for being antisocial and for having trust issues is also understandable. If I was humiliated by a guy who I had my first time with, I would probably be a lot like Eve as well. No woman who is a kind soul like that deserves to be treated like that. It shows that Aaron and Eve were meant to come together and help heal each other. They both needed it. I enjoy the email exchange, it was nice seeing that instead of letter writing. As much as I enjoyed letter writing stories, I am happy to see different ways of letter exchange. The ending was adorable after they got together and moved to St. Claire's, Aaron gets a beagle puppy. The name they have him is so cute and silly. The walk group that was formed in St. Claire always ends up being a matchmaker whenever it comes to single people joining the group. If you have read the book series like I have then you will enjoy it. I know I have.

I was given this book specifically to read and review.

This book doesn't disappoint, from the start you meet Aaron who goes on Holiday in St. Claire, needing a getaway and a reset after his divorce especially when she came out as realized she was into women.

Eve also is on holiday in St. Claire, needing to try something bold instead of staying inside of her quiet little home, or so her Therapist recommended.

When she gets there she plans to hide in the background, stay invisible, she wasn't expecting to be invited onto a group of walkers called "The Ramblers" whom just gossip, walk, and go to the pub afterwards.

But Eve is thankful when Aaron intervenes as her "Partner" when he notices how uncomfortable she was with the person talking to her.

And from there the chemistry between them is soft and sweet, they are both in their Forties so they aren't instantly in love/lust. No it's a slow burn type of love, the kind that builds up after he invites her to a sort of hot-tub get together with just the two of them along with taking her out for a picnic.

And it continues to build up even after they are separated, choosing to stay in contact with each other via Email the modern version of writing a letter. And when Eve & Aaron finally do the deed, he makes her feel so seen and heard. Like he isn't rushing and taking her body, no he worships her, helps her stop from hiding beyond her insecurities. And when Eve thinks she almost looses Aaron she has her older sister drive her all the way to London to remain by his side and remains by his side as he heals.

🥵 Spicy Chapters: 16-17
❤️‍🔥 Swoon Factor: 2.5
📚 Tropes/Themes: epistolary, 40s+ MCs, She takes care of him, cinnamon roll MMC, novella, introvert, anxiety rep, slow burn
👀 Dual POV 1st person
💔 Content warnings: mentions of SA and suicide, brief war violence

💬 This is the third act final book in the Ramblers of St. Claire series, and it's seriously cute. It also overlaps with the Aftermath series (although my recommendation would be to read those first since they're so short and technically take place before this book. I've reviewed them all so be sure to check those out too!!)

This one has a different vibe from the first two, and I think I liked it better. It's a bit more of a slow burn given how much of an introvert Eve is, but Aaron is so sweet with her. He's the literal definition of a cinnamon roll MMC and I love it, and I realized I've been reading a lot of "badass" FMCs lately because I was really drawn to how Eve is so "awkward" and unsure.

It also continues to bring me IMMENSE joy that Dani also writes MCs who are in their 40s that aren't divorcees with kids getting their second chance romances. Not that there isn't a place for that, just I'm glad this exists too.

I also loved that this isn't an insta-love story, despite being a novella. Actually this one didn't really feel like a novella to me, there's a lot of emotion and depth packed into a small package.

Really, the whole series is great and I definitely recommend it.

I had the privilege of reading this ARC by Dani Elias. This novella is full of spice while still offering a sweet and charming story. I rated it as “mild-medium” on my spice scale because it is explicit without leaning heavily into kink, and technically, there is only one detailed spicy scene. Set in England and written in British English, it has a cozy feel that adds to its overall appeal. This is the third book in the novella series. Eve is shy, reserved, and introverted. Aaron is the opposite, but he notices Eve even when she attempts to be invisible. This book was so well written and left me wanting to know more about their lives together. One thing I love about Dani Elias’ books are the MCs are in their 40s. This book includes trigger warnings and discusses trauma, but the way these situations are handled is so beautiful. I would have loved it even more if it were longer than a novella. I appreciate, however, a quick and easy read, and this definitely was one!

“I want to tell him. To just say it. That I like him. That he makes me feel seen without ever putting me on the spot. That he’s the first person in a long time who makes me forget to hold my breath. But how do you say that when you have spent half your life hiding behind careful words and polite smiles?"

4.5 STARS! 2.5 pepper spice (Mild - Medium on my scale)

The Norfolk Coast plays host as the awesome book by Dani Elias does start . Eve is a sweetheart, spent years allaying her fear living here in this hideaway small haven. But when a last minute chance does arise to go hike in Saint Clare ,surprising herself she goes there. Encountering Aaron she falls deep. Dreams about him in her sleep . They exchange emails once home . Aaron doesn’t know what hit him with Eve but knows they have a connection and he surely does feel an affection for her. He only went to clear his head but met Eve instead. The yearning and burning that absence does bring has both of them in need of this thing . Aflame and with heat until they can meet once more . …These Ramblers of St. Clair they go there and phew 😮‍💨 This slow burn story ,I’m telling you hits the spot . It shouldn’t work with the two of them . There’s him coming out of a divorce and isn’t keen to get back on that horse . Then there’s Eve ,who is painfully shy especially around a guy. But they click and it’s exquisite. The slow-burn love they got going with the toing and froing of messages and text has them eager to hold tight for what comes next . When things take a turn one way it’s time to change the course not sway and together they must be of course…Hooray! Wonderfully inspired and so sweet and all. A slow moving natural light and this book sure does delight .

Fated Paths is a tender, cozy, emotional slow-burn that leans much more into connection and atmosphere than plot or spice — and while it didn’t fully click for me, it was still a really lovely, heartfelt read.

Eve and Aaron’s relationship builds almost entirely through quiet moments and email correspondence, which gave their bond a very sincere, gentle feel. Aaron in particular was such a charming, patient, genuinely kind hero — a true cinnamon roll MMC that was impossible not to root for. I also really appreciated the way this story explored isolation, anxiety, and starting over later in life with softness and care.

This is very much a true slow burn — and I mean very slow. The pacing is deliberate and understated, focusing more on mood and emotional intimacy than forward momentum. For me, that meant the romance sometimes felt closer to near-instalove emotionally, while the physical side stayed extremely restrained.

That said… the one main intimate scene we do get? Absolutely delightful. Worth the wait. 😌🔥

Overall, this is a solid, cozy romance for readers who love:
• emotional slow burns
• email / long-distance romance
• soft, kind heroes
• low-drama, atmospheric love stories

If you enjoy gentle storytelling and connection-first romances, this one will be a great fit.

Thank you to the author and Happily Booked for the ARC!

If you have read the aftermath series, then you already know Aaron and will love to read a little bit more about will & Jon.

The ramblers of St. Claire series is about people who go participate in a walking group in a quaint little british town (you can read how this group started in book 1), and in this book we'll find two tourists trying to spend some relaxing time in that town and will meet in that walking activity.

Eve has social anxiety so going out of her hotel and walking with a group of strangers is totally out of her comfort zone so when Aaron saves her from a flirting man and walks with her without talking, she starts to wonder about him. That fateful walk is the moment their friendship starts and I loved how Aaron lets her be herself and doesn't pressure about anything.

Their relationship is really cozy and I loved their emails and how they build a relationship little by little.

I couldn't finish this review without writing about Bernard, the only dog who can be known because of his toxic farts and still be proud of himself. I really needed more of him, and I think I'm not the only one because he keeps getting more pages with each book. (I don't know how can the author write better scenes for him in the next book but something tells me that she will do it)

“I think I’d go anywhere for you,”

Eve and Aaron’s story is such a sweet story with a focus on the growth of their friendship leading to stronger feelings. The way Aaron acknowledges and helps Eve right from the beginning is so heartwarming. It was also nice to see Will from Aftermath and more of Jon as well the St. Claire crew. For under 200 pages Aaron and Eve grow a lot through the story and find a true connection, he helps her come out of her shell more and it seems she is healing a hurt he is trying to run from.
Great story fun Bernard times in and out of St. Claire, but that moment that brought us back to Aftermath series had my heart aching. Another great story out of St. Claire.
