When a suitcase containing women's bones is discovered, Detective Billie Ann Wilde is determined to find the person responsible. Shockingly, the suitcase has a label with the name Danni. This is very disturbing to Billie as, not only is Danni a dear friend, Billie's personal secrets about how she really feels about Danni are coming to the surface.
Billie is relieved when she rushes to Danni's house to find her alive and well and in the process of preparing dinner for her twin daughters. Yet, the suitcase did indeed have Dannie's name on it, so Billie is more than concerned.
Meanwhile, Billie's home life is all but in tatters. Her once-happy marriage is dissolving, her children's behavior is a cause for concern for Billie, yet she must focus on her current case. When yet another suitcase is discovered, Billie finds herself in a race against time to find whoever it is that is missing, even at great cost to herself.
Then She's Gone was a fast-paced thrill ride from start to finish. The constant clash when it came to Billie's home life while desperately seeking the identity of the killer was truly thrilling.

I was so glad to read the second book in the Billie Ann Wilde series. Once again, we find Billie investigating crime while going through a rough time in her divorce.
What I always enjoy about these books is how the author does an amazing job of weaving the past and present together. I was trying to figure out how it all went together with this one. At first I was confused by all the different POVs. It all came together in the end. A solid 3.5/5 rounded up to 4 for me!

This is a great crime thriller.
Detective Billie Ann is called to a beach where a suitcase has been found which contains body parts.
This is shocking in itself, but the suitcase has a label on it, with her best friend’s name on it.
Billie Ann races round to Danielle’s house and is relieved to see she is fine.
The remains are identified and Billie Ann and the team need to find her killer.
Things then go from bad to worse when Billie Ann finds out that Danielle has gone missing. She is desperate to find her before it’s too late.
This is a gripping crime thriller and we also get an insight into Billie Ann’s life at home, and the problems she’s having.
I’m looking forward to the next book in the series to see what’s next for Billie Ann.

'Vermist' is het tweede deel met rechercheur Billie Ann Wilde en deze keer is het weer een heerlijk luguber verhaal. Het begint meteen met een zeer interessante inleiding, want er wordt een koffer op het strand gevonden en de inhoud is nogal schokkend...
Er liggen namelijk lichaamsdelen in de koffer, dus het is overduidelijk dat hier sprake is van moord. Rechercheur Billie wordt meteen op de zaak gezet, maar raakt er iets té betrokken bij. Op het bagagelabel van de bewuste koffer staat de naam van haar beste vriendin Danni geschreven...
Je leest in dit verhaal niet alleen over de vondst van de lichaamsdelen, ook het privéleven van Billie komt uitgebreid aan bod. Je leest onder andere over haar vriendschap met Danni en haar liefdesleven. Maar haar werk speelt de allergrootste rol. En dan wordt er een tweede koffer gevonden...
Al vanaf de vondst van de eerste koffer voel je de spanning. Wie is degene in de koffer en wie zit er achter deze lugubere moord? Op de tweede koffer staat de naam van Billie en dit zorgde ervoor dat het verhaal vreemder, mysterieuzer en nóg spannender werd. De details zijn goed op papier gezet en hierdoor zag ik alles helemaal voor mij.
Eigenlijk was dit verhaal tot het eind boeiend en ik heb het dan ook ongeveer in één ruk uitgelezen. Aan spanning dus geen gebrek! Ik kijk enorm uit naar het derde deel en hoop dat deze net zo goed en spannend mag zijn!

Billie is back! We see her investigating new crimes while navigating her difficult personal relationships at the same time. I love that we have a lead character who has finally accepted who she is and what she wants, even though that has some people unhappy with her.
This crime thriller is twisty and fill odd action. I listened to this one in one sitting. It is told from multiple POVs with flashbacks to the past. I was wondering how it all was connected, and I feel that it tied together well in the end. My guesses were all wrong in this one! I definitely recommend reading book 1 for background information, but it’s not necessary.

The sequel to Don't Let Her Go. Like the first book, this one was amazing. I was hooked from the start and I am so so excited to see what's next in this series. It was fast-paced and had me so engrossed that I nearly forgot to get my kid from school.
If you're planning on reading this, definitely make sure you read the first one first as there is a whole lot of backstory that is important.

I really enjoyed the first book in the series, Don’t Let Her Go, but this one seemed overwhelming with the amount of information and characters that were poured into it.
Detective Billy Jean Wilde has no time for sleep, or the time to take care of her family since she leaves her three children home alone often. She’s investigating the disappearance of her best friend, identifying the bodies discovered inside luggage bags, juggling her divorce, and finding out her son is getting into a bad crowd at school.
I feel like if an author brings a big family into a book, there should be more about them in the story; but Billy Jean is more focused on the domino effect of her life choices, her divorce, and sweeping all troubles with her family under the rug to focus more on her career.
Although I had a few struggles with this book, it was a twisty detective investigation that kept me on the edge of my seat and guessing until the very end.

I think this was just a bit too convoluted for me? I didn’t like that I was still struggling to remember characters when I was over halfway through the book. The case was compelling and had all the elements there, and I always love when crime thrillers delve into the personal lives of the detectives which this book certainly does, but it didn’t quite all click for me like the first book did.

Mijn ervaring:
Geweldig! Wat een tof, origineel en mega spannend en pakkend vervolg van de serie. Willow Rose heeft een filmische, vlotte en levendige schrijfstijl die ervoor zorgt dat het verhaal gemakkelijk en erg fijn leest, waardoor je echt in het verhaal op gaat.
We volgen opnieuw rechercheur Billie Ann Wilde, die in het eerste deel al op geweldige wijze is uitgewerkt. Naast dat het een realistisch en sterk personage is, is ze ook nog eens origineel, uniek en allesbehalve doorsnee. Daarbij weet Willow Rose in dit tweede deel de privé verhaallijn van Billie Ann en de gebeurtenissen rondom haar scheiding en privéleven op geweldige wijze in de verhaallijn te verwerken.
We volgen een nieuwe zaak, waarop rechercheur Billie Ann wordt gezet, maar al snel blijkt de zaak connecties te hebben met het privéleven van Billie Ann en gebeurtenissen in het verleden. Het verhaal zit op indrukwekkende en krachtige wijze in elkaar. This is a common review for the two books I read in this series
I read other books by Willow Rose and appreciated the storytelling and well round characters
These are the beginning of a new series and I thoroughly enjoyed these novel as they're fast paced and full of twists.
Billie Ann is a strong MC and I'm curious about her. The tightly knitted and solid plot kept me hooked

In deel twee van de Florida Crime serie volgen we wederom rechercheur Billie Ann. Net als bij deel 1 (Verdwenen) vind ik de opbouw en het verhaal zelf enorm sterk en veelbelovend. Echter valt het de plot tegen wat mijn algehele beoordeling toch wat onderuit haalt. Dat is zonde, want ik ben absoluut erg genoten van Verdwenen. Sterker nog, ik las hem in één zit uit. Ondanks het matige plot, ben ik dus wel geïntrigeerd en wil ik de andere delen uit de serie ook zeker nog lezen! 3.5 sterren.

The book begins with a young boy finding a suicase on the beach, well, we know, no good will come from opening it! The story is told via different voices over several time lines. It's very descriptive and well written. It was great to catch up with Billie Ann. The plot is fast paced, full of twists and turns with a couple of red herrings thrown for good measure! The ending came as a complete shock. Here's hoping there is a book 3!

Heel blij dat ik weer een boek mocht lezen met Billie Ann in de hoofdrol. Haar empathie en passie voor haar vak waren ook hier weer aanwezig. De auteur zet met haar een realistisch en sterk personage neer waarin je als lezer de nodige herkenbaarheid vindt.
Vermist is het tweede deel in de serie 'Florida crime'. Op privévlak bouwt dit boek verder op hetgeen Billie Ann in Verdwenen voor de kiezen kreeg. Haar toekomstige ex-man heeft nog steeds moeite met het accepteren van haar geaardheid en de afhandeling van hun scheiding loopt niet van een leien dakje. Om een volledig beeld te krijgen, zou ik dan ook aanraden om te starten met Verdwenen.
In dit boek wordt een koffer met botten gevonden aan het strand, alsook een tas met bloed op de luchthaven. Billie Ann wordt opgeroepen door haar nieuwe baas. Ter plaatse ziet ze dat de naam van haar beste vriendin op het bagagelabel staat.
Initieel was Billie Ann bezig met de zoektocht naar de recent verdwenen Joanne. Met het nieuwe onderzoek wordt de druk om resultaten te boeken opgevoerd. Dat is des te meer het geval wanneer de identiteit van het slachtoffer bekend raakt en er ook een volgende koffer gevonden wordt met Billie Ann's naam op het label.
De hoge werkdruk en de strubbelingen thuis geven haar de nodige kopzorgen. Ze probeert enorm hard om alle ballen in de lucht te houden, maar dat is natuurlijk niet zo evident. Ik vond dat heel erg herkenbaar en het zorgde ervoor dat ik nog meer sympathie voor haar voelde.
Naast al het onderzoekswerk in het heden zijn er ook transcripties van verschillende verhoren te lezen. Ik was heel erg benieuwd naar het belang daarvan voor het geheel. De ene aanwijzing wijst naar een link tussen de verdwijning van Joanne en de koffers, de volgende ontwikkeling maakt dat alles herzien moet worden. Het plot blijft dus tot de laatste pagina een complete verrassing.
Het is een relatief dunne thriller waarin de vele gebeurtenissen en vorderingen een goede spanningsboog creëeren. Het hoge tempo en de korte hoofdstukken maken dat je doorheen het verhaal vliegt.
Wie afgaat op de flaptekst kan misschien denken dat dit een vrij luguber verhaal wordt, maar dat is het zeker niet. Rose zet zonder gruwelijke details opnieuw een spannend verhaal neer en weet hoe ze haar lezers aan een verhaal en personage kan binden. Het verhaal wordt mooi opgebouwd en het onderzoek komt realistisch over; het team krijgt namelijk niet alles in de schoot geworpen. Het einde doet mij alvast reikhalzend uitkijken naar een vervolg.

Vermist is het tweede deel in de serie 'Florida crime'. Op privévlak bouwt dit boek verder op hetgeen Billie Ann in Verdwenen voor de kiezen kreeg. Haar toekomstige ex-man heeft nog steeds moeite met het accepteren van haar geaardheid en de afhandeling van hun scheiding loopt niet van een leien dakje. Om een volledig beeld te krijgen, zou ik dan ook aanraden om te starten met Verdwenen.
In dit boek wordt een koffer met botten gevonden aan het strand, alsook een tas met bloed op de luchthaven. Billie Ann wordt opgeroepen door haar nieuwe baas. Ter plaatse ziet ze dat de naam van haar beste vriendin op het bagagelabel staat.
Initieel was Billie Ann bezig met de zoektocht naar de recent verdwenen Joanne. Met het nieuwe onderzoek wordt de druk om resultaten te boeken opgevoerd. Dat is des te meer het geval wanneer de identiteit van het slachtoffer bekend raakt en er ook een volgende koffer gevonden wordt met Billie Ann's naam op het label.
De hoge werkdruk en de strubbelingen thuis geven haar de nodige kopzorgen. Ze probeert enorm hard om alle ballen in de lucht te houden, maar dat is natuurlijk niet zo evident. Ik vond dat heel erg herkenbaar en het zorgde ervoor dat ik nog meer sympathie voor haar voelde.
Naast al het onderzoekswerk in het heden zijn er ook transcripties van verschillende verhoren te lezen. Ik was heel erg benieuwd naar het belang daarvan voor het geheel. De ene aanwijzing wijst naar een link tussen de verdwijning van Joanne en de koffers, de volgende ontwikkeling maakt dat alles herzien moet worden. Het plot blijft dus tot de laatste pagina een complete verrassing.
Het is een relatief dunne thriller waarin de vele gebeurtenissen en vorderingen een goede spanningsboog creëeren. Het hoge tempo en de korte hoofdstukken maken dat je doorheen het verhaal vliegt.
Wie afgaat op de flaptekst kan misschien denken dat dit een vrij luguber verhaal wordt, maar dat is het zeker niet. Rose zet zonder gruwelijke details opnieuw een spannend verhaal neer en weet hoe ze haar lezers aan een verhaal en personage kan binden. Het verhaal wordt mooi opgebouwd en het onderzoek komt realistisch over; het team krijgt namelijk niet alles in de schoot geworpen. Het einde doet mij alvast reikhalzend uitkijken naar een vervolg.

📚 MY REVIEW:
Overall, this book was just okay. I recognized many pieces of the storyline from real true crime stories, so it felt a bit unoriginal for that reason. The chapters were told from multiple points of view of different characters and some jumped across decades, so it was often confusing because there were a lot of people to keep track of. This was also the second book of a series and I didn't feel like I had all the pieces since I hadn't yet read the first one.
But my biggest issue with the book was the flowery feel of the writing. Sometimes the words felt a bit cliche... almost cringy. It just didn't have the overall feel of a suspenseful thriller. The main character pined over love while subsequently dealing with turmoil of her pending divorce and woes of her children -- it felt like I was reading a book that was part general fiction/part love story - with a police storyline thrown in simply to add to the plot.
There were good intentions here, but this book just fell flat for me. Thanks to Net Galley for the advanced reader's copy in exchange for my honest review.

Met “Vermist” levert Rose opnieuw een ijzersterke thriller af. Dit tweede deel in de Florida Crime-serie duikt dieper in het leven en verleden van rechercheur Billie Ann Wilde.
Wat begint als een gruwelijke moordzaak—een koffer vol menselijke resten op het strand—verandert al snel in een persoonlijk nachtmerrie als haar beste vriendin Danni’s naam op het bagagelabel blijkt te staan. Wanneer er nóg een koffer opduikt en dit keer Billie’s eigen naam op het label prijkt, wordt het duidelijk: dit is geen toeval.
Wat deze thriller zo sterk maakt, is de manier waarop Rose de spanning opbouwt. Er zijn meerdere verhaallijnen die ogenschijnlijk niets met elkaar te maken hebben, zoals de mysterieuze politieverhoren die steeds terugkomen. Pas tegen het einde vallen alle puzzelstukjes op hun plek, en dan besef je hoe briljant het geheel in elkaar steekt. De dubbele tijdlijn, waarin we zowel het heden als het verleden verkennen, zorgt voor extra diepgang en laat je steeds twijfelen over de ware toedracht van de gebeurtenissen.

Terwijl ze zich volledig vastbijt in de zaak, worstelt ze tegelijkertijd met de gevolgen van haar scheiding en de zorg voor haar kinderen. Dat maakt haar menselijk. Geen stoere heldin, maar iemand met angsten en fouten, wat haar alleen maar boeiender maakt.
De schrijfstijl van Rose is meeslepend en beeldend, zonder overbodige franje. De scènes zijn spannend, de dialogen realistisch en de sfeer beklemmend. De spanning wordt subtiel opgebouwd met onverwachte wendingen, en er zijn momenten waarop je echt niet meer weet wie je nog kunt vertrouwen.

I am late to the game, only recently discovering this talented fellow Floridan author (located north of me in Cocoa Beach). When I read the first book in the Detective Bille Ann Wilder series, Don't Let Her Go, I was HOOKED and blown away by this dynamic crime thriller, cop procedural series, and highly relatable detective. I could not wait to read #2. I love her style.
THEN SHE'S GONE is gritty, intelligent, edgy, twisty, and electrifying!
Set in Florida, THEN SHE'S GONE is the second book in this dazzling new series—I devoured it.
What I enjoy about this author is her excellent writing skills, twisty plots, highly relatable protagonist, vivid settings, fascinating storylines that could be ripped from today's headlines, heart-pounding suspense, and how she openly shares the inspiration behind the book with her readers (a prominent plus-wish more authors would do so).
The author expertly combines three different storylines (all inspired by TRUE stories)— you cannot even imagine how the three will converge—explosive! I would have never guessed. I enjoy stories in my backyard—The two storylines are set in Florida (one here in Palm Beach County— Delray Beach, three suitcases, the Intracoastal waterway), and they are spine-chilling!
I adore the flawed and relatable Detective Billie Ann Wilde (a wife and mother of three), who is dealing with a divorce after recently coming out as gay. The series is stand-out!
If you are a fan of intelligent #crimethrillers #copprocedurals #truecrime #suspense #psycholgoicalthrillers #mystery #detective #femalesleuths and #domesticsuspense, you will devour this series—I highly recommend it!

I enjoy stories in my backyard—The two storylines are set in Florida (one here in Palm Beach County— Delray Beach, three suitcases, the Intracoastal waterway), and they are spine-chilling!
I adore the flawed and relatable Detective Billie Ann Wilde (a wife and mother of three), who is dealing with a divorce after recently coming out as gay. The series is stand-out!
If you are a fan of intelligent #crimethrillers #copprocedurals #truecrime #suspense #psycholgoicalthrillers #mystery #detective #femalesleuths and #domesticsuspense, you will devour this series—I highly recommend it!
I look forward to #3 in the series, In Her Grave: An absolutely gripping mystery and suspense thriller with an incredible twist, coming (June 26, 2024). (a cliffhanger).
This is a must-read series for fans of Lisa Unger, Lisa Gardner, Karin Slaughter, and Christina McDonald. Thriller fans, get this author and series on your TBR list now! It's out March 18th.

This is the second book in this series which features Detective Billie Ann Wilde and after reading the first book, Don't Let Her Go, and absolutely loving it, I just had to grab book 2.
I loved how the storyline plunged us into a case that was closely connected to Billie Ann again this time. Although this case is much more obviously directed at her.
Billie Ann's personal life and issues continue on nicely from the previous book and we hear a lot more about how events from then and now are affecting her - but work consumes her and leaves her with no space to begin to process everything that's going on around her.
We follow this case from a dual timeline aspect again.
I really love this format as we are drip fed information which at first appears to have little to no relevance to our current case - obviously knowing that it will connect eventually! - but struggling to find those connections until much later on - if at all!
Eventually the past and present begin to weave together and new theories start to form - but watch out for the twists that always get me towards the end.
This storyline lets us focus a lot on Billie Ann's relationships , which were touched upon in the first book.
This side of the storyline flows perfectly through the events of this book and although we're not 100% settled, I definitely think we have enough development to make assumptions of how book 3 might present this. ?....
Once again, this is a pretty complex storyline which is well planned and written.
The opening pages introduce us to the case and the tension and excitement don't let up until that final page....even then, leaving us with a nice little hint as to where the next book might take us......and I can't wait!!

Willow Rose weet hoe ze een snelle, flitsende thriller kan schrijven. Het plot mag je echt wel verrassend noemen en de spanning neemt constant toe. Het hoofdpersonage Billie Ann Wilde heeft ze enorm knap neergezet. Complex, doortastend, constant in twijfel. Je krijgt meteen sympathie voor haar.
Dit verhaal bevat de tweede van de Billie Ann Wilde-serie. Hopelijk volgen er veel meer!

Billie is once again investigating an intricate crime whilst trying to sort out her messy divorce. The story is told from multiple perspectives. This is a thrilling, emotional, and suspenseful read. There are lots of twists and red herrings along the way. The story has been descriptively written. We also get a dual timeline that's told in the past and present day format. This is a multilayered read. I would advise reading the first book in the series, Don't Let Her Go, as it lays down a lot of Detective Billie Ann Wilde's backstory.

Never have I EVER read 75 chapters within 24 hours. Or dreamt I could do it. But I did! And that too while parallely working on my office work. I am so proud of myself 😎.
The reason I could read this fast was because of the simplicity of the author's writing style. And the fact that everything was so fast paced. Right from chapter 1 so many things were happening. And there's a past storyline that's revealed to us with the present story side by side. I think I was more riveted by the past story. It seemed so real!
The major twist of the story was good, nothing mind blowing though for a thriller addict like me. But if you are a new thriller reader, you'll definitely be blown away by the twist. And 1 more thing. Why do thriller authors insist on making their MCs drink coffee every other scene?! It's so hard for a caffeine addict like me to not get coffee or tea every hour 😭. Self restraint working at its max 😭😭.
Apart from the murder mystery, there's an emotional side to this story and I am sooo happy that it's an LGBTQ one. It was a really good surprise at the beginning of the book.

Then She’s Gone by Willow Rose is a gripping and twisty crime thriller with good suspense. Then She's Gone is book 2 in the Detective Billie Ann Wilde series.
I loved when Billie Ann was speaking to her husband, who was worried about her coming out as gay and how it would affect his children. As in life, we are all exposed to things no matter what, and we cannot control everything. As Billie Ann said, we can control how we react and how we teach children to react. We teach them to be kind and accepting and to stand up for what’s right. No truer words are spoken and so relevant today.
The only thing that I didn’t like about the book was the ending. I was disappointed with the author bringing in something that should have been left in the past (I don’t want to reveal too much, as it will be a spoiler).
There are lots of different stories happening in the book.
Overall, Then She’s Gone is a good addition to the series. I am looking forward to reading more. I would recommend this book and this series. I also enjoy the author's writing style; it keeps me engaged in the story and flows well.

In one word, Wow. This second book in the Detective Billie Ann Wilde series grabs you from the beginning as you turn page after page from the edge of your seat! When a young boy finds a suitcase on the beach with a the bloody of a woman, Billie is called to the investigation. But when she finds the luggage tag has her best friend's name, Danni on it, she goes crazy, races to Danni's house and finds she's ok. But when another suitcase with the body is found at a mall, the tag has her name on it. What is going on? Now Danni has gone missing. Can she find her and find a murderer? Are her past secrets catching up? Our intrepid heroine is committed to solve this case as soon as possible and hope that she can find Dani all the while her family life is a disaster with her marriage crumbling and her children acting up, she is single focused on finding Danni and bringing a gruesome murderer to justice. This is a roller coaster ride with so many twists and turns and dead ends that you are totally thrown by the ending! I love this series so far. Billie is a great protagonist. I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

"Family" appears to be the theme in this series.

One a missing person and a second case involving body parts left for anyone to find. She's also trying to prove herself to the new Chief after she got the previous one arrested.
There are so many twists and turns in this highly charged suspensful thriller that just as you figure it out, there's another twist that makes you rethink who done it.
This book is difficult to put down and I would recommend it to anyone who loves a good thrilling mystery. I did receive an ARC of this book, and this is my voluntary and honest review. And now, for the third heart-pounding installment in the series, IN HER GRAVE.
