One touch of the legendary blade will change their destinies forever...Thessa's fiery spirit is the scandal of the seven seas! Her dream to use her siren voice for more than luring sailors to their doom provokes Poseidon's legendary wrath, but when her sovereign father falls deathly ill, she'll do anything to save him, even strike a desperate bargain with the sea witch to retrieve Undine's Blade. The dagger must be returned to his trident before the sea swallows the sun in three days, or he'll die... not to mention she just might dissolve into seafoam!
Ah Depths! How has Prince Raggon fallen so far? No one would believe how he's become a notorious pirate captain with a price on his head, and now he's blindsided when the same land witch who destroyed his kingdom wants to force him into a cringe-worthy engagement. Having fled the loving tentacles of her arms, he sets sail toward the legendary Undine's Blade with desperate purpose—to free his brother from a curse slowly transforming him into a monster.
When Raggon fishes a wild-haired, frustratingly captivating woman from his nets, he recognizes the mermaid whose lips drew him in like a bewitching song. Knowing she'll come in handy, he throws her in his cabin... doing everything in his power to keep her from using that siren voice against him... again. As they battle through treacherous waters, heated glances become stolen kisses, but can enemies truly trust each other when ancient curses demand a price?
With two sea witches plotting against them and time running out, Thessa must make an impossible plunge the magical blade into the heart of her enemy—the one that beats for her—or risk condemning both their kingdoms to destruction.

At the tender age of seven, Suzanna's picture book called, "Candy Land" began her career of writing fantasy. She read stories aloud to her classmates about the donut people who solved crimes and Henry the VIII's wives breaking free to explore the red spot on Jupiter. Her imagination hasn't stopped since. She credits her older brother for her love of fantasy and remembers tugging out his dragon fantasy books from a room he'd painted in dragons, Garfield, and Nerds. Her love for romance comes from the box of historical regency romances tucked under her mother's bed. Of course, reading her family's books on the sly had unintended consequences. Her brother had to wipe away her tears and explain cliffhangers and that her favorite character did NOT actually die at the end of a book, and… maybe she should start with book one, instead of book five? And as for the snitched romances? Unfortunately, Suzanna's mother has spent YEARS trying to comfort her overly-hopeful daughter over her romantic ideals.
Nevertheless, Suzanna has a WILD blend of literary tastes. She is thrilled to invite you on her fantasy-writing journey. She has all sorts of ideas in the works with dystopian, plus some Regency romance fantasy with Greek gods, steampunk crime mysteries (because why settle on one genre?), and yes, more and more fairy tale retellings.
Suzanna also writes under the name, Stephanie Fowers. So, if you're into romantic suspense, romantic comedy, inspirational romance, check out those books too!
The latest ARC I received from the new All That Glitters multi-author series of fairy tale retellings is Siren's Treasure by Suzanna Fowers. This action-packed retelling of "The Little Mermaid" comes out tomorrow! Since "The Little Mermaid" is one of my favorite fairy tales, I was particularly excited to read this entry in the series. This is the third book I've read from All That Glitters. Each one has been drastically different in terms of theming, characters, and tone. This story focuses heavily on the lore behind the original fairy tale while packing it with fantasy and Greek mythology elements. Although most people are at least a little familiar with fairy tales when they read adaptations, this book requires readers to know the original story inside and out before diving in. This wasn't a problem for me, but I think new books should explain as much of the story they're telling as possible to help the reader along.
Siren's Treasure is a sequel to the original story of "The Little Mermaid" that focuses on the descendants of the merfolk and humans who were affected by the events of the fairy tale. Thessa is the niece of Undine, the original "little mermaid" heroine, whose father will die if she is unable to obtain the dagger that her aunt was given to kill the human prince she was in love with. To get it, she will need legs. She makes a deal with Scylla, the sea witch, to trade her siren powers for a pair of legs. Upon turning human, she is reunited with Raggon, a pirate prince whom she rescued when she still had her mermaid powers. After spending more time with him, she learns that the history she was told about her aunt is different from what the descendants of the human prince were told.
This book leans very heavily into the lore of the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, but changes it just enough to confuse even readers who are familiar with the original story. Raggon has magical seafoam powers in his bloodline that were granted by Undine after she became a sylph (or daughter of the air). Thessa believes that her aunt sacrificed herself to let the prince be happy with his new lover, while Raggon believes that his ancestor married Undine after her transformation into a sylph, granting powers to all their descendants. However, Undine would not have gotten the knife and sacrificed herself to become a spirit in the first place if the prince had not married another woman. The book did not provide an adequate explanation of these events.
Aside from some complications with the lore, Siren's Treasure is a thrilling adventure with high stakes and tons of magical mayhem. There are two villains in this story, Scylla the sea witch and Circe the land witch. Both protagonists have impressive magical abilities. Thessa is unique as a siren because she can heal with her voice, and Raggon's ancestry allows him to teleport like X-Men's Nightcrawler by morphing into sea foam. Just as Thessa is on a quest to save her father, Raggon seeks to use Undine's blade to save his brother from a curse that is slowly transforming him into a dragon. It seems like there's some kind of new peril happening on every page. The romance between Thessa and Raggon builds momentum pretty quickly out of necessity for the two of them to resolve their mutual conflicts.
Siren's Treasure is a thrilling and action-packed retelling of "The Little Mermaid" that combines fantasy, adventure, and romance. While its heavy reliance on the original fairy tale's lore may pose a challenge for some readers, the book's fast-paced plot, magical mayhem, and complex characters make it a compelling read. Despite some inconsistencies in the storytelling, Suzanna Fowers' vivid world-building and engaging characters shine through, making Siren's Treasure a captivating addition to the All That Glitters series.
I received this book as an ARC and all thoughts are my own.
This book was great! The worldbuilding was fantastic, and the inclusion of Circe, Poseidon, and Scylla definitely reminded me of Epic the Musical! Raggon's gift was so cool, and I loved Tobias! It would be great if he gets his own story! Something i did find slightly annoying was just how much Thessa and Raggon were pining after one another, even stopping to kiss or hold each other when they were pressed for time. Overall though, it was a sweet and exciting book, and I cant wait for the next one! There was no spice beyond holding and passionate kisses.
I stayed up late reading this one! The moment Tessa the-no-longer-mermaid is caught in a literal net by her prince and then he claims he by tying her up had me both laughing and grinning. I knew that each book in the All that Glitters series include a dragon, and I was so curious how that would fit in with a little mermaid retelling. As Fowers started to tease how that would happen (I won’t spoil it!), I was impressed and loved the element that added to the storyline. Also, the relationship developments between mermaid and prince were so much fun to read!
Would definitely recommend. Clean closed door romance No language Just enough swoon!
Best Little Mermaid retelling I’ve ever read! Fresh, imaginative, and beautiful writing! Loved the chemistry between the MCs and the twists at the end🩷🧜♀️
The pirate prince, Raggon, was an amazing concept. I loved the sea foam teleporting ability. It was well utilized in battles and was an interesting way to tie into the original fairy tale. I liked how the ability just felt natural to him.
The plot was a bit convoluted and felt like it could have been streamlined, though it came together in the end to a satisfying enough degree.
The rest of the book... was fairly weak. The inner character voices had so many exclamations! Sometimes over random things! The romance jumped into overdrive pretty quickly. I would have preferred more mature inner voices and romantic development, especially with older characters than I've often seen in these types of series. The pacing was a bit off, so I skimmed parts of the book in the second half. I also found more editorial errors in the back half (kindle). Thessa, I didn't really care for and found a bit annoying to read as she felt the more internally dramatic (so many !!!).
DNF @ 32% Things were going WAY too fast and it was getting a bit much for my comfort. All I have to say is, you can't kiss someone within 5 minutes of meeting them! Plus, obsessing about how sweet they are, or how soft they are when you had only met them once and for 5 minutes is creepy! I can't finish this.
What a tale! I love how the author gives a nod to the original Anderson version via Thessa's aunt and lets Thessa have her own version of the story. Thessa gets to keep her voice, which is one of the major deviations, and adds a new layer of freshness and opens the door for more possibilities that she takes full advantage of. The two characters have good chemistry, though I found it a little hard to care for Raggon's treatment of Thessa at the beginning (which is why I removed .5 of a star). By the end, they were clearly a good match for each other. The side characters were all distinct and intriguing enough that I'd enjoy seeing more of them, especially Tobias.
The plot weaves together wonderfully. Finding the Undine Dagger and learning more about what actually happened to Undine added an extra layer of mystery. The idea of both a sea witch and a land witch fascinated me and kept this book from being predictable. The fast pace matched the thrill of the journey. Stakes were high. Clean in language and content. Romantically, there's a lot of kissing and thinking about kissing. The mercenary pirates (not Raggon or his men) clearly have ill intentions towards Thessa but Raggon protects her from them. There are fights like I expected from a book involving pirates but nothing graphic.
Excellent story. I very much liked the book and would rate it a 4.5. Highly recommend. Siren's Treasure stands out among Little Mermaid retellings.
*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
If you haven’t heard of the version of the Little Mermaid that fell in love with a prince, making a deal to get him to fall in love with her in exchange for human legs, only to have him end up with another. This tale goes that if she is to return to being a mermaid, she must kill the prince. Unfortunately for her, she refuses and ends up becoming sea foam.
This tale is written to be the main character’s ancestor. With Thessa, all she wants to do is use her siren power for good, healing others in need. Her father, Poseidon, doesn’t want her to use her power in that way, even though his health is declining so she decides to try and find a way to save him.
Raggon is a prince that was cast out of his kingdom with his brother, only to have his parents and sister executed by the land witch. Trying his best to make do with the situation that she placed him in, he does his best to be at sea. Not everything goes according to plan though, he enters a battle that almost takes his life if it weren’t for being saved by Thessa.
I loved each and every moment of this book. I enjoyed how it brought back the version of the Little Mermaid that was turned into sea foam, which not many know. It also intertwined that with elements of fantasy and adventure, along with an unexpected twist. I have a feeling it you like fairy tale retellings, you will absolutely love this one!
I'm thankful for the complementary ARC copy I received from the author. This is my honest review.
A thousand years have passed since her aunt fell in love with a king, traded her voice for legs, and turned into sea foam when she didn’t complete her bargain with the witch.
And now she’s bargaining with the same witch to save her father. If she doesn’t retrieve a blade meant to end her people’s enemy for the witch in two days, she’ll lose her voice and her powers, and turn to foam, just like her aunt.
He’s an exiled prince who’s turned to piracy after a witch ended his family and took over his country. His only goal now is to protect his little brother and the Duke who rescued them.
Until the witch catches him, and he’s blackmailed into a journey to retrieve a blade meant for the merfolk, for a chance to save his brother from a deadly curse.
And then their fates collide. A mermaid desperate to save her father, and a pirate prince desperate to save his brother.
Siren’s Treasure by suzannafowers has hints and nods to the original legend, to the mythology behind it, intriguing magic, and entirely new storytelling that keeps you turning the pages to see how it plays out.
I loved the fire and determination that Thessa carried, and the protective love that Raggon had for those he cared about.
The Little Mermaid meets Treasure Island… plus Greek mythology 🔱🧜🏼♀️

*****content ratings at the end*****
You’ll find plenty of bilge-rats and parrots in this unique take on the original little mermaid tale.
tropes— 🐚 enemies to lovers 🐚 insta love 🐚 protective big brother 🐚 magical quest 🐚 star crossed lovers
characters in one sentence each— 👤 Thessa: mermaid-turned-human who will do whatever it takes to save her father (Poseidon) 👤 Raggon: orphaned prince-turned-pirate who isn’t afraid to kill—especially to defend his people—and, when he’s not distracted by Thessa, is actually quite smart (Tobias’ brother) 👤 Tobias: cinnamon roll prince and accidental hero who loves inventing things that don’t often work (Raggon’s brother) 👤 Morris: Captain Shakespeare meets Cogsworth (royal advisor to the princes) 👤 Circe: LAND witch who is openly sarcastic, sadistic, and gruesome 👤 Scylla: SEA witch who tries to hide her witchy-ness under sunken jewelry and fake charm
likes— ❣️ all the twists! ❣️ all the nods to other versions and pop culture ❣️ dragon! ❣️ phosphorescence 🥹
dislikes— 🕳️ insta love + too much internal dialogue about it 🕳️ too much backstory and characters to keep straight 🕳️ all the poor sailor NPCs who die 😢
This is easily the most complex Little Mermaid retelling I’ve ever read. It’s a hard story to retell well—at least in my opinion—so I was happily surprised to find that the author stuck with the original tale, specifically the seafoam arc *ahem*. Loved the tie ins to the OG, Disney version, and even Pirates of the Caribbean?! 🏴☠️
The story itself was very complex and original. There were lots of ties to Greek mythology as well. It made me think the author might’ve been inspired by To Kill A Kingdom—which is THE BEST little mermaid retelling I’ve yet found. The fact that the prince is also a pirate in that book adds to my theory.
Unlike TKAK, however, this book seemed to have a bit too much world building for the length/writing. The plot was gripping, but it took me a long time to actually finish this book because keeping track of everything—especially at the beginning—was hurting my brain 😅
That, and the romance, are what dropped stars for me.
I’m not a huge fan of insta love, but I get it, especially in shorter stories or where the romance maybe isn’t the main focus. However, this book not only has insta love (which fair enough, that’s pretty true to the OG tale), but it also never stops talking about it 😅 Over half of the book is internal dialogue of the MCs thinking about how entranced they are with each other. I honestly think that there could have been an element of insta love here—and build the relationship quickly as I know the story only takes place over a few days—while still illustrating the more genuine and grounded growth of love instead of the full force, over-the-top dramatic love right from the start.
Other than those two aspects, the book was really original and fun to read, with plenty of twists that made me keep turning the pages (and completely zone out my surroundings 🙈). And, ngl, I loved the sneak peek of the Rapunzel retelling at the end!! I was hoping we’d get to hear more about that certain character… 😏
🌊 “Ironic that such beauty would kill him”
Overall, this book is great for someone who wants to read a whole series of really original retellings (once more books come out in the series). If you want to read it as a standalone, just be prepared for a light, fun, romance-heavy retelling… that you may need a character sheet to keep straight at first 😆 (my brief character-in-a-sentence bios above may help with that 💁🏼♀️)
-Spice was quite dramatic and VERY frequent—as in, the MCs are almost constantly thinking about each other and how much they want to kiss/touch each others hair, etc.—however all the banter/longing looks/thoughts etc all only led to mild touches (hair, face, waist) and kissing. A few innuendos from the bad guys, but very vague/open-ended. Not much gory detail, but lots of violence and NPCs dying 🙃. No language, though there are made up swears like, “Ah, depths!” As for the “torture” consideration, that comes from one of the witch’s powers to force humans to slowly transform into beasts/creatures. *****
Thank you to Susannah Fowers for a free copy of this book! The opinions in this review are honest and entirely my own 🫶🏼
I've been on a Little Mermaid kick lately (to no one's surprise), so I was excited to receive an advanced copy of this one from the author (thank you!) The below, of course, are my honest and voluntary thoughts on the story.
I'm a little torn about this one. There are things I definitely enjoyed, and a few I didn't love as much. I think I'd call this one somewhere between a 3 and 4 stars for me.
First, we must acknowledge the cover - it's so pretty! I really love how her dress melts into the sea and the ship on the horizon!
Next, digging into the story itself. The nods to the original Little Mermaid tale were really fun and clever. This retelling manages to stick faithfully to the beloved bits of the story, while simultaneously presenting them in unique new ways. In fact, one of the things I enjoyed post about this retelling was the blend of familiar with the unique new plot elements.
The story sucked me in and kept me turning pages. It was engaging and kept me guessing until the very end. Our characters got tangled up in some wild trouble, caught between not one but two sister witches (one for the sea and one for the land - what a fun idea!) It was fun trying to guess what on earth was going on, and then again trying to figure out how they'd get out of the tangled web.
The world supported the story well, though I did get very confused by all the names, especially in the beginning. Some were similar and hard to keep track of (Morris and Maddox, for example, confused me at multiple points in the story). The world felt large and sound enough for other stories that might possibly have taken place (I've not read any other stories by Fowers; maybe she's already used this world elsewhere).
The princes' magic was intriguing and I wanted to see more of it. I loved how it tied into their culture, their history, and the Little Mermaid legends. We also got a glimpse of the land and sea magic together through an interesting contraption from the land witch. And, of course, a good dose of the power of the sea, which is part of the great fun of any sea story.
I'm conflicted about the characters. On one had, they were good fun. Tobias and Raggon's relationship was one of the most endearing parts of the story. I also really liked Morris; though he did come across as rather one-dimensional, I still hoped to see more of him. Thessa's heart for healing and pace and her determination to save her father made her a character you wanted to root for. It was also interesting to see her perspective on treasure, power, and riches. I had hoped we'd dig a little more into that.
On the other hand, the story was super saturated in Raggon and Thessa mooning for one another. The blurb says enemies-to-lovers, and while there was a small thread of that (mostly from a mermaids vs. humans species way rather than a personal distaste for one another way), I'd put this in the insta-love camp. Practically from the moment they met, there was far more focus on the couple's fixation with their first kiss, the other's appearance, and their growing attraction. The romance was entirely focused on the physical appearance - and often the same elements over and over (soft lips, curve of her cheek, broad shoulders, muscled arms, etc.). Although the constant ogling was rather annoying and repetitive, it still felt plausible that their feelings for one another were genuine by the end of the story.
All in all, it's a fun retelling of the Little Mermaid with an engaging plot, some unique tie-ins to the original, and a whole lot of kissing and yearning for one another. There is much focus on the external beauty of both MCs and some allusion to unsavory characters, but nothing explicit - a clean romance, if not a very saturated one. There's a fair bit of fantasy violence (swashbuckling pirates, swordfights, some mildly-graphic deaths, etc.) and cruelty from the villains. There was no swearing. I'd recommend this one for 16/17+ mostly just due to the romance elements.
Romance ❤️🔥: Kisses only (semi descriptive, he does dress her cuz he has her tied up and check out her legs when she first gets them)
⚠️There is lots of fighting in this book and fantasy violence, The Land witch has a crew that semi reminds me of something out of pirates of the Caribbean, Both the Witches are described in ways and they are creepy! I didn't find anything overly graphic but I could see others could, Loss of family members, death on page semi descriptive ⚠️
• Little mermaid retelling • Funny/annoying parrot • Dual POV • Daughter of Poseidon FMC -24 • Prince turned pirate MMC- 27 • Enemies to lovers • Instant love • Saved him from drowning • Stolen first kiss while half drowned • Prince is a descendant of Undine • She wears his clothes/he dresses here • Protective MMC • Encourage to fake engagment of marriage if needed • One bed • Forded proximity • Touch her and die • Nickname just for her • Tending her wounds • Teaching her how to walk • Possessive and potective of her • He falls first • Fighting together against a boar • He carries her
Siren's Treasure is a unique little mermaid retelling that was very action packed and had wonderful nods to the story we all know in love. In this the story we know and love refers to Thressa's Aunt Undine's who died a tragic death and turned to sea foam when her prince rejected her love. Poseidon is dying and Theressa will do whatever it takes in order to save him even if that means going against his wishes and making a deal with the Sea Witch who he as worn her not to trust or be tricked into making a deal with. She is then set with the task of finding Undine's Blade to help restore her fathers health.
Raggon is a Prince turned pirate who was chased away from his castle and left to live a life on the sea and survive with his younger brother who is an inventor who has a pesky parrot for a companion. When Raggon is thrown off his ship but rescued by Thressa, and steals a kiss that leaves them both unable to forget the encounter, but who unwittingly leaves him in the hands of his enemy the Land Witch, the one who was the one who chased him to sea to begin. When he is told that he is to be her betrothed he'd rather die then that possibility. But when he escapes to find his bother being cursed he must go after the blade in order to save his brother.
Here our two meet again, as he literally catches her in his net. As they work together unsure whether to trust one another and unsettled by how the Land and Sea witches has thrown them together, will the be able to retrieve the blade in time? Will they learn to trust one another or will they tear one another apart?
This story is truly thrilling! It will keep you on the edge of your seat and captivate you with its descriptive and detailed story. It is a wonderful Little Mermaid retelling that is unique and so well done. I recommend reading it when you aren't tired (which I did a few times haha and there's so much going on it is hard to keep track of it all) This was a wonderful story of figuring out how to trust, stolen kisses, adventure, and peril!
Thanks to the Suzanna for the ARC copy! I am excited to see where the next story will lead! All opinions shared here are my own!
– this is part of a series, but meant to be read as a stand-alone
– this is told from Raggon & Thessa’s points of view
-there is some fantasy violence
Review:
This was my first book by Suzanna Fowers and I’m interested in reading more! I enjoyed this book and trying to figure out how both heroes would achieve their separate goals (or if one wouldn’t be able to)! I loved getting to know the land the story takes place in and how it’s powers/magical items worked. I also loved that the story had almost a double little mermaid retelling within it with the different character lineages/histories that were important to the story!
I can’t wait for Suzanna to write more books in this world so I can read them! And I can’t wait to get to the next All That Glitters series book! 😍
Summary:
Prince Raggon has been a royal without a kingdom along with his brother since they were young due to the witch Circe taking control of their kingdom. Instead, Raggon lived the life of a pirate determined to cut the witch down in anyway he could from the sea. But when a battle ends with a mermaid saving him from the depths, Raggon finds himself with bigger problems than keeping his own life. He has to find the legendary Undine’s Blade in order to save his brother from becoming one of Circe’s beasts… or lose him just like he’d lost the rest of his family…
Thessa is a mermaid who longs to use her siren voice for more than bringing humans into the depths. But her father Poseidon forbids it, even if it could save their underwater home from those with sinister purposes. With Poseidon’s failing health and the disruption of the seas, Thessa knows something needs to be done or her father and home could fall. Going against his orders, she makes a deal with the sea witch for legs in order to find and return Undine’s Blade to her father’s trident in three days time. If she fails, not only will everyone back home fall without their ruler, but Thessa may also forfeit her life and turn into seafoam…
Secrets and legends collide when Raggon and Thessa are thrown together on the same search. Each has their desires. Each has their own goals for how it will end. Can either of them put their trust in one another or will they turn against each other when their destination is in their sights?
I received an ARC from the author but was not required to post a review. This is my honest, voluntary impression after reading it.
Suzanne has crafted a wonderful retelling of The Little Mermaid with multiple twists that keep true to the original but at the same time interject new ideas which leave the story fresh and original!
I was captured by Thessa’s love and devotion to her father and the gift she possesses which she uses to heal both sea and land creatures. When her father falls ill, she finds she must see the one person who she thinks can save him but finds it requires a big sacrifice on her part!
Raggon was a prince but is forced into becoming a pirate after his kingdom was overthrown by a land witch forcing this new life. He has had an encounter with Thessa but seems not to remember it and treats her roughly when he finds her. However, things start to change after he realizes she is different than what he originally thought.
Both are given a task which unites them but may result in something far more deadly if it’s achieved.
I really enjoyed this alluring tale and was swept up In Suzanne’s rich creative magical retelling of a fairy tale I have always loved to read and reread!
I wholeheartedly and enthusiastically recommend this book to one and all! Love requires sacrifices and both make the ultimate one but with surprising results!
I know you’ll enjoy this retelling as much as I have and hope you’ll share and tell others of this wonderful book you’ll want them to read as well! It even leads to another book which you get a teaser of at the end to continue the journey though from another completely unrelated yet surprisingly related source!
If you love fairy tales with twists and a great story that will capture your attention and hold you as you devour the pages wanting to know what happens next by all means get and read this book! I guarantee you that you won’t regret the time you invest in reading this beautiful exciting story of love, adventure, betrayal, redemption and wonder as you find yourself immersed in this story that will keep you mesmerized to the very end!
Raggon has been hiding in plain sight from Circe, the evil land witch who usurped the throne from his father. He has been biding his time while sailing the seas as the pirate known as the Shadow of the Tide with his brother. He finds himself springing a trap meant to capture him for Circe wants him and the power from his bloodline. And he is willing to go down fighting. Thessa is determined to use her siren powers to heal and do good, something she is forbidden from doing. Her motivation is her sick father, a father she is willing to risk banishment for just to save him. When the sea witch Scylla comes offering a bargain to save his life, Thessa takes refuge from the storm created from the witch's anger. While hiding she notices ships attacking each other and is determined to fix something. Using her voice she stops the attack but ends up having to save a human. Something about him is different and the pull to save him unstoppable. Just as the instant attraction Raggon has towards the siren. However, the sands the siren dragged him to happen to be where Circe is. And she demands the Undine Blade to save his brother. Thessa rushed back home once she saw humans coming for the man she saved. Upon returning home she finds out what Scylla wanted, her. Determined to find answers, she makes a bargain for legs to obtain the Undine Blade that will save her father. These two find themselves crashing into each other's lives again finding the timing suspicious. Along the way they learn that nothing is quite what it seems and that there is much at stake with the witch sisters using them like pawns.
The instant attraction is strong but them fighting it was fun. I was expecting the treasure to be something else at first until the quest was set for the two MCs. I can appreciate the motives for both parties and how it shaped decisions. Something I enjoyed was the instant NOPE that Raggon does when they meet again. He was not taking any chances with her and her powers. The overall plot was enjoyable and the long game being played was well handled. An enjoyable read.
A different take on 'The Little Mermaid', this was well written. The King of the Sea, Poseidon, is ill and there are two witches trying to kill him off completely. They are actually working together, one in the sea, one on the land. His (youngest) daughter, Thessalaniki, has a healing magic that she would like to use to heal her father with, but her father is adamant that the "siren" power she possesses should only be used to lure sailors to their death. The 'Prince' (Raggon) is masquerading as a pirate, after the land witch (Circe) fought his parents and won. He and his brother, Tobias, are on the lam, along with their mentor, The Duke (Morris) and Tobias' pet parrot (Sterling). But, the prince and his brother have a special magic all their own. When Prince Raggon's ship is attacked and subsequently sunk, he is saved by a mermaid-Thessa-who heals him with her voice/magic. But while she goes back into the water, he is captured by Circe (the land witch) and thrown into prison. His brother and the Duke have also survived and been captured. Circe has a proposition: she wants to marry Prince Raggon, and combine their magic. They are thrown into prison, where Raggon plots a daring escape. Escaping, but finding his brother has been shackled so that he is not able to use his magic sets him on a quest to find a treasure for Circe, so that she will release his brother. Meanwhile, Thessa makes a deal with the sea witch, Scylla, to save her father-but, you know that it doesn't turn out quite as she imagined it would. This time, it is Raggon that pulls Thessa out of the sea, saving her from drowning. Remembering the siren song that she sang when she healed him, he has no reason to trust that she won't use it to control him-not knowing that she had traded that part of her to the sea witch for legs, so that she could go on a quest for the same thing that Raggon is also searching for. He binds and gags her to begin with. As trust builds, both Raggon and Thessa find they are very attracted to one another. Will they be able to find the treasure and both get what they want?
I love how this retelling of The Little Mermaid more closely aligns with Hans Christian Anderson's original tale. Having it told from the perspective of a descendant of the original Little Mermaid was a fun and interesting twist. Thessa was such a great character, who wanted to use her siren powers for healing rather than luring men to their deaths. I really loved seeing how much she cared for her father and was willing to do whatever it took to save her. And then there's Raggon. I really love pirates and "morally gray" heroes, so I really liked Raggon's character. Although he was a prince, his kingdom was taken over by the Land Witch and his parents and sister were killed, and he was forced to take up a life at sea with his younger brother and guardian. Even though Raggon and Thessa got off to a rocky start, each of them not sure which side the other was on, the chemistry between them was undeniable and I loved the enemies-to-lovers trope featured in this book. I love how there was both a Land Witch and a Sea Witch who were sisters. It was an interesting twist, with both of them fighting against each other and trying to manipulate the other using both Raggon and Thessa. I can't wait for Rapunzel's story! From the little excerpt at the end of this book, it looks really interesting and I can't wait for Rapunzel to realise that all the things Circe told her was a lie and reunite with her brothers. This book was awesome, with a great plot that closely aligns with the original fairytale (although both Undine and Thessa got their happy ending), great world-building, and great main characters, side characters, and villains. I would definitely recommend this book to those who love fairy tale retellings, because this is one of the best Little Mermaid retellings I have read.
Disclaimer: I received an ARC copy from the author in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
Before I begin, I would like to thank Suzanna Fowers for allowing me to read a copy of her upcoming book, Siren’s Treasure, which is part of the multi-author All That Glitters series and is available on Amazon starting May 17th, 2025.
Thessa wants to use her siren powers to help others instead of luring sailors into the ocean’s depths, but her father forbids it. When he is gravely ill, she decides to make a deal with the sea witch to retrieve Undine’s Blade within three days. If not, her father will die, and she’ll turn to sea foam. Forced to become a pirate with a bounty on his head, Prince Raggon escapes from the land witch to find Undine’s Blade so he can break the curse that’s turning his younger brother into a monster. When Thessa and Raggon cross paths, their irritated and wary encounters turn into sweet kisses and witty banter as they work together to find the legendary blade. With two sea witches after them and limited time, Thessa has to decide whether she will use the blade on the enemy that captured her heart, or doom both kingdoms to fail.
This book was great. You have Thessa, a fierce, noble, kind, earnest, and beautiful young mermaid that wants to use her powers to help others, including healing her father. You have Raggon, a strong, charismatic, stubborn, brave, and handsome young prince that is dedicated to protecting his younger brother and foiling the sea witch’s plans. I liked how the author wove details of the original Little Mermaid fairytale into the worldbuilding of the story. I admired how the conflicting narratives of both Raggon and Thessa’s people layered the tension, and the truth became clear as the story progressed. Sterling and Tobias were cute, and the interactions between Thessa and Raggon were sweet. Overall, if you like fairytale retellings, great worldbuilding, wonderful characters, and sweet enemies-to-lovers romance with low spice, then I would highly recommend this book.
Well, it turns out I really like pirate books! There aren’t too many options for YA pirate books, and this one was amazing!
The world was incredible- I was immediately drawn in! I especially like Raggon’s, as he is a pirate prince, and that world was just so incredible.
Thessa’s world was also interesting, but not much time is spent there. I did love how the magic and lore of both these worlds came together and were big parts of their history, but the stories got changed by their respective cultures, which caused some strife.
The world was great and the characters were wonderful and I had a blast reading this book, but for me the romance was lacking. Raggon and Thessa were cute together, but it was insta-love, which I am not a fan of. I loved the scenes where they got to know each other (especially the training scene) but the other parts had me scratching my head. I didn’t feel enough time was dedicated to them actually learning about each other. Also there was a massive focus on looks. I think physical atteibutes were too focused on, which is the thing that really left the romance wanting for me.
I did love Raggon’s relationship with his brother, Tobias, and the Duke. I thought it was cute and well done. I hope more books come out in the future about Tobias, because he was such an intriguing character.
This book also had some Greek mythology. Thessa’s father was Poseidon and the bad guys were Circe and Scylla.
I like how this book changed the original tale of the Little Mermaid. Undine’s story closely resembled the original tale, while Thessa’s story is made into her own with Undine’s mirroring Thessa’s in the background.
Siren’s Treasure is a an intense Little Mermaid retelling with a clean romance and open seas adventure!
*I received an ARC copy from the author and all opinions are my own.
I haven't read anything by this author before so was quite interested to read this ARC copy. The whole book turned out to be really riveting and full of action, barely a dull moment! I found the plot slightly complicated with the land witch vs the sea witch, but I guess it did resolve well in the end. I thought Undine's story was the original little mermaid but then Thessa herself also seemed to turn out a little like it too so maybe it was both of them mirroring the same story after all. There was a good plot twist when one found out at the end just what Scylla and Circe had been scheming. There were a few typos which hopefully have been fixed in the final version.
Some plot related thoughts - Scylla seems very manipulative. And Thessa very naive.. ok well she did make some effort to think through the deal, but she was probably too driven by being able to save her father to see the risks. Raggon's powers are pretty cool when it comes to overpowering people. Despite being so determined to distance herself, Thessa seemed to have given in to Raggon rather easily in the end (given how quickly she fell for him). I found it a bit too dramatic when Raggon handed her the pistol and asked her to shoot him cos his heart aches for her. That was really a bit over the top.
I particularly enjoyed all the sea-related references e.g. "barnacle brain" was a good insult; "He'd been as stupid as a moonstruck sea turtle"; "her thoughts tangled like jellyfish tentacles"; "I'm a silly sea sponge". They were quite cleverly done! Raggon nicknamed Thessa "Clam", the name of her pet sea turtle at home - this one tickled me. It was a fun read, quite captivating given all the action and battles.
While I did receive this book as an ARC, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed this retelling of The Little Mermaid. If you are looking for an action-packed romantic suspense retelling of The Little Mermaid this story is for you!
Tessa is a mermaid who longs to use her siren's powers for good. When she discovers that her powers have the ability to help heal, she longs to use them to aid her dying father. When he forbids her from using her powers, she decides to take matters into her own hands and visit Scylla the Sea Witch. Desperate to find healing for her father, Tessa decides to trade her siren's powers for a pair of legs into order to obtain the lost dagger her father had given her aunt Undine long ago to be used to kill her aunt's unworthy prince. Little does Tessa expect to become entailed in the net of the man she had rescued not long before.
Just like Tessa, Raggon is desperate to find Undine's blade to rescue a loved one. Only in his case, he seeks the blade to remove the cursed chocker that the Land Witch had placed on his brother. The cursed chocker is slowly transforming his brother into a beast like those who serve the Land Witch. When Tessa lands in the net of Raggon's ship, he sees it as an opportunity to save his brother as only a descendant of the blade can retrieve it.
Will Raggon and Tessa work together to save those they love. Will they be able to put aside their differences and realize that they could potentially have a future together? Or will one of them end up betraying the other? Find out by reading Siren's Treasure! It is a book you will not want to miss!
This was my first from Ms. Flowers and it was such an exciting and engaging story! I was swept into the world and the magic of it all, with the sweeping romance and nautical setting.
I really enjoyed both of the characters. Thessa and Raggon were such interesting characters. Both had very strong loyalties to their family and a strong sense of their responsibilities, as well as having strong personalities for themselves. I admired both of their dedication and passion. Thessa cared so deeply for her family and was willing to sacrifice for what she believed would save her father. I loved getting to see the world through her eyes as she learned about the kingdoms of the land.
I loved seeing Thessa and Raggon’s romance progress. There was a bit of love at first sight vibes as they had an instant connection. There was a lot of passion and teasing in their relationship, but they quickly established a protective bond. They both had a sacrificial love for those who they chose.
I really enjoyed the side characters in this story. Raggon and Tobias were so fun together and I loved his playfulness. Morris was also super fun, I loved how he tried to take care of the boys. The story was full of twists and turns! I loved the magic of the world and how the fairytale inspiration was tied in. This is a fantasy romance I would probably recommend to older teens. It has fantasy violence, (including non graphic death) a few passionate kisses, and some innuendo.
Siren’s Treasure was such a fun, imaginative take on The Little Mermaid! This no-spice retelling blends mermaid lore, pirate adventure, and just the right amount of romance to keep the pages turning.
I absolutely loved the enemies-to-lovers dynamic between Thessa and Raggon. Their banter, chemistry, and growth felt natural and compelling—I loved watching them slowly fall for each other amid all the high-stakes chaos. The “touch her and die” vibes from Raggon were top-tier, and the emotional payoff was so satisfying.
What really made this retelling stand out was the dual-layered Little Mermaid inspiration: Thessa’s story feels familiar in a nostalgic way, while the tragic seafoam element from the original Hans Christian Andersen tale is cleverly woven into her family’s history. That added a unique twist and depth I wasn’t expecting.
Also, some of the quotes in this book were absolute gems—I definitely highlighted a few! With curses, sea witches, a ticking clock, and an epic quest for a magical dagger, this story had me hooked from the first chapter.
If you’re looking for a clean, adventurous, romantic fantasy with mermaids, pirates, and magical stakes, Siren’s Treasure delivers. It left me smiling and satisfied—and wanting more ocean magic!
Personal rating: 4/5 Content: Spice - 2/5, kisses only Plot - 5/5 the plot just kept on twisting Language - 0/5
This book is a part of the multi author series: all that glitters. It is a retelling of the little mermaid but with a twist. Instead of becoming a mermaid to marry the prince she does it to save her Father but she still marries the prince.
Personal thoughts: This story was absolutely wild but in the best way. The plot just kept on twisting. Sometimes you can predict what will happen next with fairytale retellings but that was not the case with this story, I did not see anything coming and my mind is still blown over this story. This is officially one of my favorite little mermaid retellings ever.
On a side note - I loved the twist in this Little Mermaid retelling and I love how she (Thessaloniki - the little mermaid) could still communicate because the other versions or retellings where she has no voice and cannot communicate break my heart. I know miscommunication is a device that others love but it really frustrates me so I happy our little mermaid could communicate it this story.
Thank you to the author, Suzanna Fowers, for an ARC of Siren’s treasure. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I received an ARC copy for the author but all thoughts and opinions are my own! :)
Fun fact, The Little Mermaid is my favorite Disney movie and I love the original tale despite its sad ending!
Suzanna Fowers did an incredible job with her All That Glitters Little Mermaid retelling!
What I actually loved the most about it besides the swoon worthy romance, was the combination of Disney’s version of the Little Mermaid as well as Hans Christian Anderson’s original tale! Without spoiling too much, our little mermaid, Thessa, in this story is the second little mermaid in the tale! If you want to know exactly what that means, then you need to go get your copy TODAY and find out!
You will love Thessa and her willingness to heal those around her, even at the expense of herself. Raggon, our charming pirate prince, will sweep you off your feet with his charms, wit, and protectiveness (also doesn’t hurt that you can tell he’s absolutely GORGEOUS 😍). Their adventure to save everything they hold dear will enrapture you and make you wish you were in their world!
I had so much fun reading this book and I loved seeing a completely unique twist on my favorite fairy tale and Disney princess movie!
Thank you to the author for sending me an ARC of Siren's Treasure - This is my honest review.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time reading this book. I wanted to go into this book without reading into the plot, so I started with only the knowledge that it is a Little Mermaid retelling and will include a dragon. I was very curious how Suzanna Fowers was going to incorporate a dragon into a Little Mermaid retelling but I was not disappointed. I believe she did an excellent job of writing a dragon into a story that originally had no dragon (and never seemed like a story that would have a dragon!). I am not a fan of retellings that are TOO close to the original story and I think Sirens Treasure is a perfect blend of "it's obviously a Little Mermaid retelling" and "it is it's own story". I rarely come across retellings like this and I LOVED it! This story was also the perfect blend of romance and humour. The relationships between each of the characters was so different and so distinct. Romantic relationships, friendships, love for family members, and love for ones community. The parrot and Tobias were excellent sources of humour, providing the reader with the occasional laugh and giggle. I truly enjoyed this book and I look forward to discovering more of Suzanna Fowers' work.
I received an ARC of this book and am leaving a review voluntarily.
This book is a real treat to sort through, especially if you know your Little Mermaid lore. The author clearly did their homework not just on the original fairytale but events surrounding its creation. You can follow the story just fine without this knowledge but it adds so much extra spice to the tale!
This is in fact a sequel to the Little Mermaid as the doomed Princess has passed on a bit ago and it’s her great-niece (though not sure how removed) who is the center of our story. She has the same break-the-mold spirit as her aunt but hers centers along wanting to use siren magic for more than just enchantment. What if she could heal?
Then we have our handsome love interest. Except this version is a sailor/pirate type who inherited a power courtesy of the original mermaid of the ability to turn into seafoam. With two characters connected by such a tragic past figure, things are definitely not cut and dry for this couple!
I love the little touches like the inclusion of the dagger that never got used and how magic is carried through bloodlines. The world has history and it makes it feel all the more lived in.
Throw in some great platonic relationships and you’re set for a great adventure in this book!
“Whoever said the hearts of men were foolish things was a cruel prophet.”
Siren’s Treasure by Suzanna Fowers (aka Stephanie Fowers - same author but in different genres!) I was an absolutely lovely read! I love fairytale retellings. Fowers struck the balance between familiar elements (both from the Hans Christian Anderson and Disney tales) and unique perfectly for this little mermaid retelling. It’s a very high action, high stakes sort of retelling, with the fates of whole kingdoms hinging on the success of the little mermaid and prince/pirate captain. The romance is full of chemistry while also staying firmly in just kisses territory; it’s no secret that Thessa and Raggon find each other quite attractive! The mix of a unique magic system with elements of recognizable mythology was delightful too. I love that this is a launching off point for a series as well. While I do love a good stand alone, I love the continuation of the story a series can offer.
Definitely recommend to fairytale lovers! And pirate fiction lovers too!
Thanks to the author for the ARC! All opinions are my own.
