During the Nazi Occupation of Poland, Dr. Josef Mengele conducted sadistic experiments on twin children. Nathan Oberst barely survived the torture of the death camp, but had to watch his twin, Noah, die before his eyes. At that moment, Nathan witnessed the ancient evil behind Mengele that fed off the misery and deaths of the children. As the sole remaining survivor, it is up to Nathan to stop it.
Jason Collins and his twin, Jimmy, go on a vacation with their parents to Sau Paulo, Brazil. Their rent house is haunted, scaring all the occupants out within a matter of days. In a panicked frenzy their dad wrecks the car, killing everyone … except for Jason. He is now orphaned and blinded. After returning to the United States, Jason adjusts to living with his Uncle Dan, Aunt Janie, and his cousin. Much harder, though, is adjusting to his blindness. As his hearing intensifies, he can now hear the voice of something supernatural that haunts the family. Meanwhile, an aging Nathan has linked Mengele to an abandoned rent house in Sau Paulo where Jason and Jimmy stayed. He finds their belongings and sees they are twins. Worried, he must find them – knowing Angel of Death is after them. Nathan might have the secret to rid the earth of the demonic entity, but can he find the family in time?

*Do You Hear What I Hear* is haunting, emotional, and deeply powerful. The way the author wove together the horrors of Nazi Germany with a modern-day supernatural twist was unlike anything I’ve read before. I felt every moment—Nathan’s pain, Jason’s loss, and the terrifying presence that connects their stories.
It’s not just a thriller—it’s a story about trauma, survival, and the strength of human spirit. I couldn’t put it down and was honestly thinking about it long after I finished the last page.
If you’re into dark historical fiction with a paranormal edge, you’ll definitely want to pick this up.
This novel delivers a haunting, emotionally charged story that lingers long after the final page. It weaves together two timelines one grounded in real historical terror, the other soaked in modern supernatural dread and the result is a gripping, deeply unsettling read. The Then storyline is especially powerful. Nathan Oberst’s survival of Mengele’s brutal twin experiments is portrayed with sensitivity and gravity, while the introduction of an ancient evil feeding on suffering adds a chilling, mythic layer without ever diminishing the real horrors of the Holocaust. Nathan’s trauma, purpose, and determination give the entire narrative its moral center. The Now timeline is equally compelling but in a different way. Jason Collins’ the car crash that kills his entire family, losing his sight, and being thrust into a new home and a new life—is heartbreaking yet deeply human. His struggle with grief, guilt, and blindness is written with nuance, and the slow realization that his heightened senses are detecting something otherworldly creates constant tension. The supernatural presence that follows him is unsettling, unpredictable, and genuinely frightening.
What truly elevates the story is how these threads connect. Nathan’s lifelong quest to stop the evil he encountered as a child collides with Jason’s haunting in a way that feels purposeful, urgent, and emotionally resonant. The stakes rise as the pieces come together, and the mystery surrounding the Sao Paulo house and the demon gripping the family keeps the pages turning.
Do You Hear What I Hear? is a powerful, emotionally charged supernatural thriller that masterfully blends historical horror, modern suspense, and spiritual warfare into a story that lingers long after the final page. Stephen W. Scott weaves together two timelines, one rooted in humanity’s darkest past, the other in a child’s unimaginable present, into a gripping battle between good and unspeakable evil. This is not just a ghost story. It is a story about survival, faith, destiny, and the terrifying persistence of ancient darkness.
The perfect blend of historical fiction and horror. A must read young adult novel. It will make you laugh, terrify you, and make you cry all within its run. Great attention to detail and masterful atmosphere building. Do you see what I see here? A novel you are sure not to forget!
