The story stays pretty consistent with its constant cliffhanger and action, but I found it disappointing compared to the other volumes/episodes. There was something about Kyun that increasingly irritated me. Thanks to the special daily pass event happening, I was able to read a good chunk of Bastard. I noticed one thing in the episodes I read and that was the state of Kyun's character. Throughout the story, she hasn't grown, in fact, she makes very stupid decisions throughout the story. Kyun feels like the sort of female protagonist's best friend or younger sister character that would show up in a romance story. This is intentional, to make the reality of what she faces (unaware that she is a target) feel more shocking. Still, Kyun denies the truth when laid plainly in front of her, willingly walks right into danger, and chooses to ignore red flags.

She begins to feel a lot like a burden in the story, making it harder and harder for me to understand what Jin likes about her other than her physical appearance. Jin has a lot of inner conflict and speeches that make me feel as if he is actually doing something, but in reality he hasn't actually achieved much. I wanted a deeper exploration of the other serial killer character in the story, but in the end, she was just a character that the readers didn't really get to know much about. The conclusion of her character arc was wrapped up quite quickly and felt more like a filler part of the plot than something relevant.

I still enjoy watching as Jin strengthens his relationship with Manny and opens up to others a bit more. I'm interested to see where this story will go.

this volume felt more like filler content, kinda like it's setting up the scene for something really explosive to come. and i have a feeling it won't disappoint.

i am still so much in awe of the art work, i simply cannot put it into words how much i love it. it's insanely gripping, gritty, raw and makes you wanna dive into it.

i feel like i am watching something in real time rather than reading it.

spoilers ahead:

1. karma served so hard man. what happened to manny, damn.

2. i am not sure what's up with the dad's side of the story. is he haunted by the death of his wife? it was so briefly shown, i couldn't grasp it. and i do not like his manipulative ass, tf. but also, as a neuroscience student i feel pity for him.

3. i read a little ahead!! currently on episode 56 and oh my god he kissed her. cue the giddy dance. they are so cute i cannot, will not deal.

4. i love love love how jin is getting stronger by every episode! i love the varied facets of his personality and i am really intrigued to see how the author untangles it all, if at all.

*these are from episodes 36-56 on webtoon.

I'm honestly really not a huge fan of the female lead — she feels "innocent" and yet very overly judgmental. Still, the male lead and his relationship with his father (who continues to be a GREAT villain), are the best part of the webtoon.

What a webtoon. Incredibly well done, as is everything else from this author. This reading experience is uncomfortable and unsettling, and unquestionably well done. Definitely deserves the psychological horror categorization it is tagged with. Within these pages you will find the entire emotional range represented, a solid story, and plenty of twists and turns. This series somehow strikes a perfect balance between storytelling that is grounded and realistic, yet absurd and unbelievable.

As the blurb here isn’t in English: This story is about

This series is one of the things I read that really drove home the idea that you need to finish a book before judging it. I have not DNF’d anything since finishing this series. For most of the reading experience up until the ending this was “fine”; good enough to keep going but not life-changing. The ending however elevated the entire series to the next level. Once I finished, I had to read the whole thing again, and it was even better the second time around.

The series as a whole is 5-stars, so I’m simply rating each volume that way. I don’t see the purpose to only reading part of the story.

2.5⭐️ this story has turned into something that isn’t exciting. the introduction of the second killer wasn’t the plot twist that made me “ooh” and “ahh” it was irrelevant to me. the storyline with the father has sort of taken a backseat and now the focus on is this random woman who kills out of jealousy and on the lead FMC who acts so ditzy it drives me insane. she’s written like a stereotypical girl you would see in a romance shoujo not a crime-horror thriller.

Jin (the MMC) doesn’t do anything smart. I think the smartest thing he ever did was try to get stronger and put a camera outside of his crushes house, that’s it. He has all these thoughts about how “crazy” he can get and how he needs to “end things” but the story has focused so much on the romance aspect all he does is follow his crush around. it doesn’t even feel like horror or even psychological anymore.

the first volume was amazing, even the first half of the second volume was decent. but this volume was a big let down, I’m honestly just reading to finish and see what happens atp.

4.5⭐
