Oh my goodness, where to start?! 😭 As someone who is so against the Labyrinth property being touched in terms of sequels or anything of the such, this story worked beautifully for me to get that fix of new content from one of my all time favourite movies. The origin story running alongside the movie’s plot worked seamlessly despite the fact that the split timeline trope is one I’m growing tired of in general, and in this case I felt it actually added to the plot and wasn’t just being used as a literary device to serve the author. I deeply appreciate that the author was so perfectly able to capture the humour and artistry of a Jim Henson story, and I absolutely adored every moment (except maybe the sewer). 😂
I'm a huge fan of Labyrinth and this is a great addition to the world. I urge any fan of this movie to read this. even if you've seen the film a million times ( like me) it'll make you want to rewatch it again.
As a lover of the movie Labyrinth (I even have several Labyrinth tattoos), I was extremely worried about this prequel comic and how it would live up to my high expectations and love for the original. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The story feeds nicely into the established Labyrinth lore. If you aren't familiar with the lore or movie, Coronation still works on its own as a standalone story.
