I've always loved books, especially about monsters and magic, so I started writing. I'm working on a prequel and the next few books in the Others of Edenton series, and I have a head full of stories to share.
I'm a stay at home mother with a wonderful husband who lets me write and write to my hearts content.
Can someone please explain to me how I keep ending up choosing the most lame-ass romance novels out there? Talk about shitty luck. All I want to do is puke my guts out. Why do authors create these stupid stories and heroes and heroines that are so bloody unrealistic? The heroine of this novel, who is a high school teacher, is perfect in every way. I mean she's gorgeous, beautiful, smart, intelligent, thin, athletic, multi-orgasmic, a terrific baker, every one she meets loves her, her male peers want to date her, her male students all have a crush on her, she's so amazing at her job that all the failing students now love science, she’s praised wherever she goes, she doesn’t like receiving any attention, she wears unflattering clothes and no makeup but still looks sexy, she’s a terrific mother, and her daughter is just so precious. Can someone please hold back my hair as I puke? When she broke up with her college boyfriend and had a one-night stand that left her knocked up, this heroine thinks she’s a slut. Goodness gracious. Oh me oh my. Good thing she didn’t have two one-night stands. She’d think she was the “whore of Babylon.” The hero is your typical good-looking, well-defined muscular firefighter who wants to take everything slow so not scare his love-interest. He’s so kind and considerate, so totally in love. I wonder if he gets cramps too?? Fuck me. What a fucking lame-ass craptastic book this turned out to be. Next time I’m sticking with my gut-feelings. Another loser and I’ll have the dry-heaves.

My review:
This book was a breath of fresh air! I totally guessed the twist at the VERY beginning of the book, but that was totally okay. I LOVED IT! It was actually a good twist for a change. The prologue totally drew me in!
You have Mila, a single mother of a beautiful 5 year old girl, Cherish. Mila has been burnt in the past by her last serious relationship and Cherish is the result of her one reckless moment. Trying the dating game again after Cherish was born was extremely difficult because let's face it, many guys bail when they find out their woman has a child. That is just live, but that all changes when Mila moves and meets her new sexy FIREFIGHTER neighbor, Kyle. Kyle is just amazing. He knows from the first moment he sees Mila that she and her beautiful daughter are the ones for him. He knows he has to move slow and earn Mila's trust and SHOW her that he wants them BOTH in his life. What follows is a sweet and beautiful love story. This story has very minor drama/angst. There is never any question regarding the hero/heroine's feelings for each other. Kyle does not back down when Mila pushes him away. He understands where she is coming from and never ceases to prove to her that he is worthy of her and she is worthy of him. There is a twist in this story, but it is a WONDERFUL twist!
Series: N/A Category: Contemporary Romance Recommended for: 18+ due to sexual content Received from: Brandy L. Rivers (in exchange for an honest review) Grammar/editing: ungraded – book received as an unedited ARC / errors excused
This is a stand-alone novel / not part of a series.
Mila is going to just have a one-night-stand and forget the man who tried to crush her dreams. She plans to have a night of anonymous lust with no strings and no regrets. She gets more than she bargains…Six years later she has a permanent reminder of her temporary passions, her daughter Cherish. She has no regrets, except that she didn’t get his name. Kyle hears laughter next door and meets the new high school science teacher and her daughter. He quickly loses his heart to both of them, but when her past intrudes, will it tear them apart?
The story is a contemporary romance with just the right balance of turmoil and lust, mixed with family and friends that you have to love. It is very well written with a great plot and well-developed characters. I loved this story!
Who wouldn’t crush on Kyle? He’s a hot hunk of fireman with a romantic heart and just enough imperfections to make him perfect. One of those imperfections is his ex-girlfriend, “ho-bag Barbie.” She is a jealous, spoiled brat without a clue that over means over. Some of the funniest lines in the book are in reference to her. Mila is a sweetheart with a heart of gold and a lovely mixture of tough and gentle. Cherish is a five-year-old whirlwind in pink and I absolutely fell in love with her – especially the pink part! The supporting characters are individualized with distinct personalities.
I have loved every one of Ms. Rivers’ paranormal stories. In this one she has a devil, fae, a phantom…. oh, wait! Those are Halloween costumes (heheheh). This is a contemporary romance – no shifters here - and proof that Ms. Rivers is not ready to be permanently labeled! I sincerely hope she will give us more of her brand of love in this new-for-her genre.
I was given this book to read in turn for an honest review!!!
Mila wanted one last night of freedom to forget her ex boyfriend and embrace her new life. No names, no strings, just one wild night. One night was all it took.
Six years later Mila has a beautiful daughter and great teaching career. Deciding to move away from her mother and closer to her aunt she hopes she has put a stop to her mother’s matchmaking.
Kyle’s the local hot fireman happily living the single life, that's until his new neighbor moves in. He feels a strong attraction to Mila and he’s determined to explore what it is between them. Mila isn’t the only one to have stolen Kyle’s heart; Mila’s beautiful little girl has too.
Mila decides to give the relationship a chance. When an old friend of Mila’s comes for a visit, pieces of her past resurface; will the truth make or break their relationship?
One night changed Mila’s life forever. Can she ever find a man to love her and her daughter? As she decides to take the chance the past catches up revealing everything. Will the revelation end everything before it began?
I read this book in one sitting, I couldn’t put it down. Mila is a kind hearted woman dedicated to her daughter and career. Kyle is the hot fireman with a heart of gold. You will fall in love with the characters in this book except one who you will want to slap!!! Brandy does a great job of keeping you glued to the pages, nothing is revealed quickly or easily.
If you love a contemporary romance full of suspense you will love this story.
Destiny and fate are terms easily thrown at readers to describe the connection that two characters may have. Oftentimes, the connections formed between characters come across more rushed than fated. I – for one – am many times a little skeptical about characters falling in love in a matter of a few dozen pages. I go along with the stories because as a reader I know that that is what is the norm in many novels. But Brandy L Rivers has breathed a breath of fresh air into the concept of fate and destiny – even true love with her standalone novel Heart on Fire.
One moment can change your life – that’s what Mila learns after a night no strings attached fun with a man at a party. Six years later, Mila and her beautiful daughter move to a new town to start a new chapter in their lives. Never did she realize that everything she’s been looking for would find her.
After being burned by past relationships, Kyle Blake is happy alone. When he hears his new neighbors, he can’t help but introduce himself. He finds himself drawn to the beautiful woman and little girl next door.
As their pasts come to surface Mila and Kyle are faced with many questions. Will they be able to handle truths of their pasts?
Mila and Kyle are written so realistically that the reader can easily find that they are slipping into the story themselves. At times you just want to shout the answers to questions at them, but know that they need to figure things out for themselves.
Rivers has delivered a beautiful love story that shows how one choice can change your life, but a series of right choices can direct you to exactly where destiny and fate want you to be. She gives her characters such a deep and meaningful journey to fulfillment that for once, the belief in fate and destiny is not a stretch.
After being in a relationship with Paul for years Mila sees his true colors and calls it quits. With a little encouragement from her best friend Barb she decides to put Paul and their failed relationship behind her and have fun at a Halloween frat party. There she runs into a handsome man dressed as The Phantom of the Opera and he literally sweeps her off her feet. That one night has stuck with Mila for years to come. She got a precious gift that night, her beautiful daughter Cherish. Her only regret is ot getting his name or anything else so that she could let him know. She moves away from home for a fresh start and once again gets more than she bargained for. Kyle is entranced by his new neighbor from the moment he sees her and her little girl planting flowers in the garden. He hasn’t felt that instant attraction since long ago on Halloween night when a sexy Devil captivated him. The relationship is slow going at first since Mila has trust issues and Kyle has a crazy ex who just won’t quit. This book will captivate you and leave you breathless.
Amazing contemporary debut from Brandy L. Rivers! I love her paranormal stuff, but my heart always belongs to contemporary first. This story was amazing, following Mila and Kyle as they fall in love and face so many struggles and revelations. I sincerely hope Rivers decides to write more in the genre.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author for an honest review.
This is the first book in the Combustible contemporary romance series. I loved it!
Mila Day is a wonderful character. I like her but she has a nasty habit of not seeing herself as others see her and constantly belittles herself. Whether this is because of her relationship with her ex-boyfriend, I am not sure. However, after breaking up with him, she decides to live on the wild side for one night and has a one night stand with "The Phantom of the Opera" at a costume party. That one night changes her life forever. Moving to a new town with her daughter six years later, she meets her charming new neighbour, Kyle Blake.
Kyle Blake is also a wonderful character. I liked him a lot. He is kind, considerate and loving. It also doesn't hurt that he's a fireman. Who doesn't love a man in uniform? When he meets his new neighbour and her daughter, he is immediately drawn to them. When Mila's past threatens to tear her family apart, Kyle will do everything he can to keep them together.
Having previously read paranormal romances written by this author, I was eager to read this contemporary romance. I started to read this book and quickly became hooked. The story is told through the eyes of both Mila and Kyle, which allowed me to see what they were both thinking and feeling. I found myself on a roller coaster of emotion from beginning to end. I am a sucker for contemporary romances with sexy firemen, so meeting Kyle's friends and colleagues was a thrill too. I also fell in love with Mila's daughter, Cherish. She is so cute and lovable.
This story felt a little predictable as it followed the traditional romantic theme, but there's a lot of heat between the main protagonists which made up for it. The characters themselves felt lifelike and likable. I love flawed characters like Mila, as they come alive on the page. However, I think Kyle could have had a few more flaws as he felt a little too perfect to me. But, then again, what do I know? Other readers may think he is better without them. I'll leave you to make up your own mind.
I reached the end of the book (which doesn't end in a cliffhanger) and was left with a happy, satisfied feeling. I am now looking forward to reading the next book in the series, Falling Star, as soon as possible.
Brandy L. Rivers has written an entertaining contemporary romance series. I love her fast paced writing style, and the flow is wonderful. Her characters are lifelike and likable. With her ability to write in both the paranormal and contemporary romance genres, she is one of my go to authors when I'm in the mood for a sexy read.
Due to explicit scenes of a sexual nature, as well as use of bad language, I do not recommend this book to readers under the age of 18. However, I do recommend this book if you love hot erotic contemporary romances full of sexy firemen and determined women. - Lynn Worton
I received this book by the Author for an honest review.
I am a huge fan of Brandy L Rivers paranormal series so when she told me she was writing a Contemporary Romance I was supper excited. She did a great job and I loved it.
Mila decided that after a breakup with her boyfriend she wanted a one night stand. She got what she wanted at a Halloween party after meeting “The Phantom” no names, no strings, no regrets, simply one night and well something she wasn’t expecting.
Six years later Mila was a high school teacher and had her six year old daughter, Cherish. She decided it was time for a change she move away from her mom to start a new life. They meet the handsome neighbor, Kyle Blake. Kyle is drawn to Mila and Cherish but Mila keeps him at arms length because of Cherish. Kyle works hard to break down Mila’s walls to let him in. When secrets come out can their fire keep burning or will it burn out?
I loved the connection between Mila and Kyle. Mila has a complicated personality, as any single mother who had been burned in the past and is trying to protect their child from heartache. She had the conflict of wanting to have a relationship but wanting to be cautious and not let her daughter get too attached incase things didn’t work out. Kyle had a way of backing away and giving Mila space to thing about thing and coming around then if needed to give her that little extra nudge. I absolutely adored the relationship and interactions between Kyle and Cherish. There is even just the right amount of drama that comes back from both Mila and Kyle’s past that threaten what they have built.
Thank you Brandy L. Rivers for allowing me to Beta read this book it was an honor. I have enjoyed all of Brandy’s books and I’m thrilled she decided to write a contemporary romance.
Some of my favorites:
Fuck. If Gavin knew what I was thinking, he’d be laughing his ass off at me for chicking out. And I don’t give a damn.
“For the record, I want a hell of a lot more than one night with you, but I don’t want to change you.” His arms wrapped around her waist, hugged her. Against her ear, he told her, ” And the ex sounds like an asshole. No matter what happens, I won’t give you ultimatums. A relationship is suppose to be about give and take, not one side demanding everything.”
“I like that you’re willing to admit you’ll screw up, but I hope you don’t anticipate something major.”
She never felt so deeply for one man, and she knew she was in serious trouble. Mila wasn’t falling – she was in love with Kyle.
I’m the lucky one. I’ve had rotten luck with men, but you’re proving each of my fears wrong. One by one, they’re falling away.” “I’ll give you as much time as you need. I’m not going anywhere, and I trust you completely.
This is a standalone contemporary romance from an author who is most usually associated with paranormal romance . There does seem to be quite a lot of authors recently trying different genres is it's no surprise that Ms Rivers has decided to dip her toe in. This is a story of just how easy it is to overlook what's right in front of you and how sometimes it's worth taking a chance. Have you ever wanted to just step out of your comfort zone and do something wildly crazy? The heroine of this story Mila does just that after ending a disastrous relationship . She goes out to a costume party , spots a sexy hunk and throws caution to the wind to have one night of total unbridled passion! No names , no promises., no exchanging numbers just hot sex! Her one night of rebellion though didn't quite go according to plan and a slight issue with a condom and yes you've guessed it, Mila is left with a permanent reminder! Fast forward about six years and Mila and her daughter Cherish are starting a new life and boy does it feel good. Kyle is a firefighter with unfortunately a very persistent ex girlfriend . Oh he knows just what it's like to coast along and try to please someone else constantly but now he is just happy to get a little peace and enjoy his job and his good friends. What he hadn't expected was to look out his window one morning to see a very sexy new neighbour with an adorable little girl. Kyle is not one to let the grass grow under his feet and promptly introduces himself but his new neighbour seems wary and well frankly a bit skittish. O boy is Kyle in trouble though as he really wants to get to know Mila better but he's a patient man and determined to wear her down . Mila may have put up defences but a smoking hot fireman is about to burn them to the ground! This was a nice easy read and flowed very well. This author writes quite steamy romances and this was no exception with a couple who truly struggle to keep their hands off each other. If honest I did guess part of the story but that did not spoil it for me as I felt I was in the know so to speak and wondered when the characters would catch up! I'm sure some readers might find it too sweet for their taste but not everyone enjoys the recent trend for dark romance and if you just want to become engulfed in a story with a happy ending then this book delivers in spades .
I loved this story. There were so many twists and turns possible, but never the ones I thought would happen did -- Brandy sent us down other paths. I loved that it wasn't predictable. Sometimes people have trouble changing things up, but Brandy wrote this contemporary romance wonderfully. There was intrigue, romance (of course), comedy, tragedy, and even a couple slimy evil villains. In a few short pages she had us hot for the phantom and later we were in love after a chapter. And now a bit about the story...
A few months after dumping her college boyfriend when she wouldn't bend to his will and become his trophy wife, Mila decides to do something wild! She goes to a frat costume party and goes home with the first man she meets, the Phantom of the Opera. She is dressed as the devil, complete with feathered mask to give her the courage to be bold. The devil and phantom keeps their masks on all night and never exchange names. Then Mila wakes early in the morning and sneaks out - not regretting her actions, but only wanting that one night of wild abandon. The story picks back up 6 years later, Mila and Cherish, her 5 year old daughter, have moved to a new town where she will be the high school science teacher. She never gave up on her dreams like her scumbag boyfriend wanted and now she is living them! Her students love her and she loves Cherish, if only she had learned the name of the phantom....
Favorite passages: - If you have a sweet tooth, you can come over and get a bite. "I'm only asking for a chance. You'll never find out if I'm different if you don't at least let me try." - "Do you have cheese? The good cheese, not the yucky kind?" Mila translated, "Good cheese is cheddar. Bad is American."
I received this book from the author in exchange for an hones review.

But once he meets them he know he's hooked on the mother and her daughter. Kyle also gets this strange feeling that he's meet the Mila before but he's not quite sure how or why. Once he realize the truth will he be able to accept everything and forgive?
Like I have already said before Brandy is one of my favorite authors. Every book that I read of her's I can't put down. So hats off to you Brandy. I recommend this author and book to others.
I loved this book. It was sweet, sexy, naughty, suspenseful, full of twist and turns, and has one sexy fireman that will easily become a new book boyfriend! This is not your average romance and has quite fresh spin on the story. I loved the twist even if I did figure it out early on. I also loved the pace of this story. Don't let the length fool you... this book packs a serious punch.
This is Mila and Kyle's story. After a nasty break-up, Mila finds herself wanting to let loose for one night... no names, no faces, no strings. Six years later, she and her daughter are in a new town trying to move on with their lives. But what she doesn't expect is her sexy neighbor and the chemistry she has with him. As these two navigate new waters, secrets will be revealed that could destroy everything they have. Will Mila and Kyle be able to find their happy ending?
Oh sweet Kyle! I loved him. He is was so sweet and determined that I have to give him props. I also admitted Mila and her strength to move on when it was tough for her. I loved how they were together. In the end, I was so happy with how it turned out for them.
I loved this beautiful love story. It was sweet, sexy, suspenseful, and at times naughty, and full of twists and turns. This is a second chance romance and having the characters follow their dreams.
Mila just got out of a bad relationship and just wants one night of no strings attached sex. There are no names exchanged and identities are kept secret by the wearing of masks. Fast forward six years, Mila moves to a new town with her daughter and next door to a sexy Fireman, Kyle. The chemistry is palpable between the two and they try to navigate the waters of their attraction to one another.
Soon secrets are revealed that can destroy everything that they had built between them. Will they get their HEA? Or will the betrayals be too much and obliterate everything they had. The story keeps you engaged of what will happen next, and you find yourself rooting for Mila and Kyle. Mila is a strong woman, who never lets life get her down when it get tough. Kyle has the making to be a great book boyfriend, and he proves himself in the end. This is a story that has a journey of separation, anguish, betrayal, love and forgiveness.
Do not miss out on this book. You will not be disappointed in Hearts on Fire, Brandy L. Rivers first Contemporary romance novel. I hope she writes more books like this in the future, I know I will be one-clicking I she does.
This book is a sweet romance with an HEA ending. I don't usually give away ending in reviews but I just loved this book. The storyline was different than others that I have read and the characters were really great and well developed. I absolutely loved Kyle and I really loved Cherish and Mila. Mila's personality is fantastic and genuinely a sweet person. I love her need and want to put her daughter first. I love the choices she makes so that they are best for her daughter. I love that she did not let anyone influence her actions and throughout the book she stayed true to her character.
Kyle. I loved Kyle. I loved him from the beginning and loved him even more over the course of the book. His character is also genuinely sweet and perfect for Mila. The surprising twist in this book made it so worth the read. You will most likely figure it out early on like I did, but it isn't any less satisfying.
Like most romance there is a little bit of drama and conflict but I love the way the author wrote it so that it did distract from the story or take away from the ultimate ending. I really like the way the characters dealt with the conflict and drama. So, in my opinion this is a sweet, sexy and great 5 star read!
I am going to start of by saying that I am not typically into the contemporary reads because they are too sappy for me. I like heat, I like raw bedroom shenanigans, I like mystery in a book.
We are first introduced to Mila who has decided that the way to get over a broken heart is to have an anonymous one night stand. Mila has built walls to protect herself and those she loves from feeling the pain she has endured. The first chapter delivers a scorcher of a sex scene that pulled me in hook, line and sinker. Brink Kyle into the mix, hot fireman, single and the epitome of a gentleman. Is he too good to be true, is he like most men who will feed you any line to get into your pants?
This book has nice guys, jerks, great girlfriends and total b's. You get pain, heartache, regret, happiness and romance. I read this in one sitting, unable to put it down. While there were a couple minute editing things that were not caught, the story was perfect. 5 fangs
I fell in love with Ms. River’s “Others” series and when I ran out of them to read I decided I’d take a chance on this one as well. I loved it.
Kyle is seriously hot and steamy, he’s the perfect guy next door, normal every day you could meet in your own hometown, with a heart of gold and sexy as hell.
Mila is going for uptight schoolmarm, but she was gifted with a little too much sexy at birth to pull that off. She is however an awesome Mother and Cherish is absolutely adorable.
The build up of the love story between Kyle and Mila is nice and the mystery was great, I’m betting most readers will figure it out before they do and be just like I was waiting to see what was going to happen to reveal everything. This story does have the typical plot element where some evil villain tries to come in and tear them apart, I really liked how Kyle handled himself during that part of the story, if I hadn’t already been half in love with him, he’d have gotten me then for sure.
Kyle is a total flirt, "his hand gently landed on her shoulder, and she nearly jumped out of her skin. "Oh, you star in all my dreams lately, but I didn't want to embarrass you further." Sometimes Kyle and Mila just go at it and forget where they are, "moaning she wrapped herself around him, her hand clutching the back of his head - as if he needed any encouragement. Quick steps down the stairs signaled watching eyes and they took a step apart. "Sorry," she whispered. "Got carried away." Kyle is really sweet on his girl and I loved that, "you look great, and you are covered. And you do make one sexy devil." He pulled her against him, and she grinned." I think Brandy will excel in Contemporary Romance but my favorite genre by her will always be paranormal.
What a beautiful love story. The chemistry between these two was amazing, it was like they were magnets drawn to one another. I really did not like her ex he was a "douche" and his ex was an egotistical snob, let's just say I didn't like either one. I found this story heart warming because they had met, connected, and went their separate ways then nearly 6 years later meet again and the chemistry was still there and they still couldn't fight it. I got a little teary eyed a few times during some of the more dramatic moments and that's when i know it's a really good book, when i feel all the emotions right along with the book characters.
Mila Day had plans. When her lover demands she give up her dreams to become a teacher to be a trophy wife, she leaves. She ends up at a party in the next state, craving one wild night of abandon. But it’s not exactly what she gets. Six years later, she’s a happy high school teacher with a beautiful daughter she will always Cherish. Kyle Blake is a fireman and neighbour. He finds it hard to resist Mila, and her little girl, who steal his heart.
They both have awful exes, he was with Rene for two years. She kept trying to convince him to work with her father. Her brother Gavin has been his best friend for as long as he can remember, their step-father was also a fireman, and a much better dad than her real father.
Rene wants him back in the hopes of transforming him with a career he doesn’t want. She only wants him because he doesn’t want her.
Her ex, Paul was engaged to another woman two weeks after she left him. Her mother is convinced that Paul is the father of her baby and in doing so...also convinces Paul, in her misguided effort to lure Mila home.
“Why didn’t you tell me we have a child?” Anger radiated through the tone. “Who is this?” “Paul, why didn’t you tell me?” She hadn’t heard from him once in six years. “Because she’s not yours. I left you before I got pregnant.” “Your mother says she could be mine. Says she was born a month early according to you, yet was very healthy for being premature.” “Fine, have the test done. I don’t care. She’s not yours.” “I don’t believe you. It’s all too damned convenient.” “Why on Earth would you believe my mother?” “Someone has to. You never listened to her.” “Ha! And why should I? She called you for a month, trying to talk you into coming back to me when that was the last thing I wanted. After all this time, why would you do this now?”
“Look, if you really believe my daughter could be yours, send whatever I need to complete the test, but you’re going to look like an asshole when the results come back.” “Leslie can’t have children. I know I can. Cherish will fix my marital problems.”
“What do you think you’re doing? Telling him he can’t possibly be the father?” “I know who Cherish’s father is. I recently found out. And no, Paul is not him. It’s not even feasible for Paul to be her dad. It was almost two months between the last time I was with Paul and Kyle. It can’t be Paul.”
“Are you making up a story to appease me? I still think Cherish is Paul’s—that you had a moment of weakness and let him in your bed again, winding up pregnant.”
“Mom! He was engaged to another woman two weeks after I left him. That should tell you something. Now he wants to take her away from me because his wife can’t get pregnant. Do you realize what that means? You would let him take away my little girl, and for what?”
“Now honey, it would make things easier on you. He would have to share custody. It won’t be all bad,” her mother cooed. “She. Is. Not. His! I know who the father is. I’m with him now.” “You are? How is that possible? You didn’t know his name. Didn’t even know his face. How can you be so sure?” (Her mother’s denial is unprecedented).
“Actually, he’s my neighbor, but we didn’t figure out our previous connection until Friday. The point is, you didn’t have a right to even bring her up to Paul, who never had a claim to Cherish. It’s not even possible, so thank you for starting a legal battle”.
Paul stood by her car in the high school’s teacher lot. What the hell is he doing there? Vance had filed an order to keep Paul Galloway from seeing her child until the results came in. He was a lawyer, he should know better than to try to intimidate her like this. “I’m happy. Can you say the same? According to the order, you can’t see Cherish until you are proven to be her father. That’s never going to happen”. “Bullsh*t Mila. I can see her if I want.” “No, Paul. The law applies, even to you. Did you think I wouldn’t protect my daughter? Did you think I wouldn’t read the fine print? You cannot see Cherish, and you never will. So get in your car, and leave.”
“There’s no reason to be like this. Cherish is mine, and the more you fight, the easier it will be for me to win full custody.” “Good luck with that. You’re the one trying to violate the order. You’re the one who was engaged to another woman before I ever got pregnant. If you don’t remember, I hadn’t been with you in almost a month before you walked out the door. Cherish was never yours.”
Paul’s voice was fueled with rage. “Congratulations, you’re a slut.” “Whatever I am, I’m happy I never have to deal with you again. You have no tie to me or my daughter. My lawyer put in a no contact order which is already approved. So don’t call again.”
To her Mum::: “I told you she couldn’t be Paul’s, but I’m mainly calling to tell you my amazing news. I found Cherish’s father, like I told you, and we’re together. It’s serious, we love each other.” “Mila, if I could go back, I would never have told Paul about Cherish. I was desperate to have you home.” “I need you to stop interfering with my life. I didn’t need to have a man pushed at me every time I turned around.” There was a note of confusion in her voice. “But you love a man now?” Mila rubbed her temples. “That’s not the point. Kyle and I developed naturally. It wasn’t forced or coerced. It’s real, and yes, I’m in love. Can you be happy for me”?

As anyone who has followed this blog knows, I am a HUGE Brandy Rivers fan. In fact, her Others Series is probably my favorite PNR series of all time. She is vivid with her characters and delves deep to get you attached to them immediately.
Heart on Fire was no different in that regard. I was pretty curious as to how she was going to tackle contemporary romance, after all, this is new ground for her. I have to admit, I really liked the story. It was sweet and it has a HEA, which is all a girl can ask for. Oh and no cliffy, thank you so much Brandy, cliffhangers make me homicidal!
We get to meet a young Mila, who is very angry because the man she had been dating turned out to be an epic jerk, and she is looking for fun. The naughty kind. Enter her Phantom of the Opera. The one night stand that turns out to be her life changer, in more ways than one.
Mila has to learn to live with consequences of that one night with her perfect man and puts together a rather lovely life of being a teacher and mother. But when she moves to a new town and meets her sexy fireman neighbor Kyle, well, things start to get interesting. Kyle is a charmer and a good guy, but it takes more than that to win Mila over.
There are a few fun surprises in this little love tale and the story is very fun to read. Naughty in places and sweet in others. I really recommend this tale of Devil meets Phantom any day!!!
I give this sweet story 4 lipsticks!!! Brandy made the transition beautifully!

Well every now and then you will read a book that will just grab you right from the start and you cant put it down. This is just the book, 2 pages in I found I couldn't put it down. Just like a movie on the big screen I could see this book unfold page by page and loved it.
Mila was new to town and moved next door to Kyle the drop dead gorgeous fireman and from the moment he saw her he was smittened. Mila has a secret in the form of a beautiful 5 year old daughter who kyle just adores.
The chemistry between these two is electrifing and you know there is more to their story than just being neighbours. You cant help but wonder what is deeper. As you read through the pages you know these two are meant for one another and you prey that nothing will try to pull them apart.
With every page you read you will feel the heat and sizzle as the chemistry and love builds.
Mila feels it but is causious due to her past, being hurt has left her with out trust. Kyle doesn't faulter he known from the first day he meet her he wanted her and Cherish in his life, and he truly loves them both.
Brandy has written a beautiful story, it has everyting in it the from the Ex to drama, you will hold on tight as you read. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a true romance and happy ever after. This is a to keep to re read over again because it gives you that true happy feeling
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Heart on Fire was sweet and hot. I loved the romance in the book, it made things just so sighworthy. I enjoy that feeling. It gives you hope and yeah, it's just a great feeling.
The coincidence that goes on in Heart on Fire was really kind of almost eerie. Although very interesting. I don't know how likely that would be to happen in real life but I was really glad that it happened in this book. It made things really interesting especially when Mila's ex comes into the picture.
Brandy L. Rivers also gave you some characters to despise while giving you the characters to love. I enjoyed that and it was marvelous.
The writing was extremely easy to read. The characters were realistic and three dimensional, even those who were not at the center of things. It was great to see the connections form between everyone and while there were moments you got angry it was usually at the circumstances that were happening rather than the characters.
Heart on Fire was a great romantic read that had realistic characters that everyone can get behind.
Mila only wanted to forget about her heartbreak so she ventured out and joined a costume party. All inhibitions aside, her night ended in bed with a complete stranger. Too bad they forgot one rudimentary item in their one-night stand - the condom. Nine months later, Cherish was born and Mila couldn't be happier, even without the father of her child.
Fireman Kyle Blake fought fire, although he himself could start one. When he met his new neighbor, the daughter's laughter and Mila's beauty doused his heart. He knew he couldn't move away from them even if he wanted to. Although Mila heavily guarded her heart and daughter, she couldn't bring herself to ignore Kyle. Their hearts of fire soon ignited a relationship full of love, vulnerability, angst, past painful memories and so much more.
I seriously loved the gentle and wild romance between Kyle and Mila. They're like two pieces of puzzle that fit together. The book is well written and packed with steamy scenes, enough to cause a sizzle on my Kindle device. Oh, and there are some hilarious scenes, too, thanks to an ex-girlfriend who was so full of herself.
Heart on Fire is so good, now I'm asking myself why haven't read a Brandy Rivers book before? I am missing out a lot!
Brandy Rivers is my absolute favorite paranormal author so when she said she was writing a contemporary romance, I was intrigued! She blew this out of the ballpark! Was so excited to help beta this book. Mila Day wanted a wreckless night of abandon. She had been through a breakup and all she wanted was a hot sexy one night stand. No names, no comittment, no guilt. She dresses as a sexy she devil at a masquerade party and meets a sexy Phantom of the Opera. No strings attached and with their masks kept in place, Mila gets her passionate night of no regrets. Six years later, she moves into a new home beside her very hot firefighter neighbor, Kyle. Mila is the high school's new science teacher. Her beautiful daughter Cherish melts Kyle's heart and he knows he must get to know his new neighbors. Can Kyle break through Mila's walls she has so carefully constructed around her and her daughter? Will the betrayal of those close be forgiven when her child's welfare is put at risk? Come experience this incredible journey of separation, anguish, betrayal, love, and forgiving. 5 amazing stars!!!
I was pulled right into this book. Mila is letting loose after a breakup. She attends a party and wants one night without any strings and no names. It’s costume party and she decides that her and the guy will keep the masks on and not even exchange names. The night is everything she ever wanted and she sneaks out before he can ever see her face.
Years later she moves to a new town with her daughter. She has been through some nasty relationships and just wants to raise her daughter. He neighbor Kyle is a Fire fighter and smoking hot. He wants her but will take things slow and treat her great.
Just when everything is working out a secret comes out that could destroy everything they have both worked so hard to create. Can Mila and Kyle work though the mine field of the secret and the interference of both of their exs?
I highly recommend this story. Hope the author writes about some of the side characters it would be great to get to know those characters a little better.
