The Secret DNA Code

Rate this book
Graduate students try to decode the history of the universe they think is encoded in our DNA. Fanatic fundamentalists learn of the project and try to stop them at any cost. The mystery, propelled by a foreign embassy, deepens as the FBI and the NSA become involved in trying to protect the researchers. A hired assassin keeps the action going fast and furious.
Several Archaeologists, Physicists, and Astronomers have theorized that a highly intelligent species came to our planet thousands of years ago, manipulated our genes to jump-start our civilization, and encoded the history of the universe in our DNA.
Recent successes with gene splicing and DNA encoding by research teams around the world have given new credibility to these theories. Graduate students in this novel, having curious minds, set out to decode that history using nano-technology and the help of a super computer at their university.
Islamic fanatics learn of this effort and realize the potential problems this research could create for their political control over millions of followers. They resolve to murder these researchers before they succeed in their ground breaking effort. In spite of the FBI and the NSA, the international alliance assassinates some of the participants in “The Secret DNA Code.”

Is it possible that hidden deep within our DNA code is the history of the universe? Could aliens be responsible for life on Earth? Scientists are rapidly decoding and genetically splicing our DNA. What driven and deeply curious young scientist or grad student could resist the pull to be “THE ONE” to make a stunning theory become a known fact? Think where that would put them! With fame and discovery come danger and espionage of the deadliest kind. Government agencies may know more than they let on. Foreign spies and assassins may be lurking in the shadows. How can two young, brilliant and naïve students expect to do what no other scientist has been able to do without repercussions? What does this mean to countries that use religious beliefs to keep their people together? Will this topple the sanctity of religion everywhere or will it lend credence to some believers’ ideals while quashing centuries of faith for others?

The Secret DNA Code by Michael Don Fess certainly raises some fascinating questions while infusing intrigue and a bit of humor into his sci-fi thriller. At times his main characters take on a decidedly “Absent-minded Professor” vibe, although their genius is clear. Nano technology to explore the past? Great idea, the thing sci-fi is made for. Each page and each scene flow smoothly as each new wrinkle is introduced. Bumbling assassins? Good thing or this tale would have been over long ago! Government agencies allowing anti-American threats into the country? Obviously not a new concept, or fantasy. A mad scramble to be the sole holder of this information? Of course, this is world altering news!

Michal Don Fess has an excellent tale to tell and does a good job with it, keeping it understandable, easy to read and imagine, although sometimes, I think the dialogue was a little too slanted or simple or inflammatory. In a world where political correctness or a lack of brings cries of foul, I was slightly disappointed in some dialogue. The premise of this tale is fabulous, love a thriller with that unknown factor, and DNA is, well, one of the last great frontiers!

I received a review copy from the author in exchange for my honest review.

Interesting Story Involving the NSA, Iranians, Attaches, FBI, and DNA

This book was definitely written based on an interesting concept which is: what if our planet's history was written and stored in our DNA? (cue alien creepy music) Seriously though unique idea, as far as SciFi goes, I had never heard of this concept or theory before reading this book and might go all nerd later and research a bit more on this topic.

As for the book itself, a reader is introduced to a wide array of characters from FBI agents to Saudi Attaches to the Grad Students who are most notably the main characters and everyone else's main objectives. Grad Student Boris 'Bo' Samaritan decides to try and unlock the secrets of worlds past in our very own DNA after hearing about research done in Europe where scientist put info like modern day digital file into DNA strands. Bo simply thinks the reverse is possible and that if there were higher beings out there what better place to put file of great importance than human DNA which will always exist. Bo quickly recruits his friend Ken Himlauger and from then on things begin to roll as they start to try and decode the possible messages left behind in our DNA, that is unless religious extremist can get to them first and their scientific exploration.

Now the way the book is set up is simple, so a reader is easily taken from scene to scene almost as if one were reading a screen play instead of a crime novel or mystery book. In fact the author time and geographically stamps each section, so you know when and were each part you are reading is taking place in the story, in a way it felt like those CSI shows and how they do the time stamps, in order to keep the story line in chronological order. My only issue with the formatting was I never got a Date stamp, so I'm still unclear as to when the story began, when it all happened, how long it all really took place, etc. So it could have all been over a week or a month.

Overall, the book was a good read, I won't say light as the subject matter can be rather lofty, but it wasn't too difficult to follow especially when the author made sure to repeat the books main purpose numerous times. I will say the book overall was a little iffy at times in being politically correct, but hey most books when dealing with religions or extremist usually go one way or the other, so I admire Fess for hitting on extremists from a lot of religions that would have been affected by having a DNA message released. Like said this books concept is unique, the dialogue is more script than novel but the pace is steady and in the end the book makes you think. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a clean light SciFi-ish read that includes a bit of intrigue concerning NSA, death threats and all the U.S. Government Big Brother trappings to help protect the Secret DNA code.

Given To Me For An Honest Review

The Secret DNA Code by Michael Don Fess is a book that will make you really think and wonder if there is a possiblity. Did it happen? Could it have happened? The concept is a very unique one, I have not heard of it before. It is that our planet history was written and stored in our DNA. The author includes a bit of intrige concerning NSA, death threats and all of the US Government Big Brother trappings to help protect the Secret DNA Code. This book is easy to read and imagine keeping it very understandable. As you read, you'll find yourself becoming a part of the story. Will the question of aliens being here many years ago and put things in our DNA ever be answered? If we can prove it, what will happen? This book is written more for those who are 12 through 18 and are in grades 6 through 12. But adults would enjoy it also. If you enjoy reading sci-fi, then this book is for you. It would make a great gift. It would also look good on your bookshelf or any library's bookshelf. I recommend this book to everyone. I look for more from Michael Don Fess.

I am an independent reviewer for Paranormal Romance and Authors that Rock. I'm giving this book 3 1/2 Fangs.

In this book Mr. Fess raises some interesting questions, while introducing mystery and humor sprinkled throughout the book. His characters are well rounded and a bit scatterbrained at times, they are highly intelligent as well.

Michael does a fantastic job explaining NANO technology, can it be used to explore the past? Who doesn't want this technology out. There is the mystery inept assassins, threats against the country, who will be the last one holding the information?

If you are looking for a good young adult mystery, with action and humor thrown in, as well as an understandable description of the technology then The Secret DNA Code should keep you interested. I think if I was a 14 to 18 year old guy, I would be all over this one.

I received this book for a fair review.

Overview: Bo, Ken, and a few of their professor buddies have hit on a different kind of research involving DNA. It turns out that something might be encoded into it. But there are some who don’t want this research to take place, and the reasons are diverse. Will research continue? Or will the researchers meet their end.

Likes: The researchers didn’t let anything get in the way of their search for the truth.

Dislikes: This book held a spirit of disdain for those who believe in God. And that ruined the story for me.

Conclusion: This book will show you the point-of-view of some of the ancient alien believers. It just won’t be for everyone. Be prepared when you read this one.
