I’m not just her grumpy neighbor. I’m the man who will do anything to keep her safe.
I’m a 34-year-old grumpy, billionaire, doctor seeking solitude in Helmswood. But I didn’t count on 22-year-old Jessica Rivers, the fiery, curious, artist next door.
She thinks I have something to hide, and honestly, I do. But I’m not the criminal she thinks I am I find her antics both annoying and amusing.
From her accidental run-ins to spying when I’m not looking, she’s relentless. But her sass and spunk got under my skin somewhere along the way. I’m falling for her and there’s no turning back.
When a storm traps Jessica in her house, I risk everything to find her. As we face the rising waters together, I see beyond her curiosity to the brave, beautiful woman she is.
Now, I have to convince her that we’re worth the risk, No matter the odds stacked against us.
The Doctor Next Door is a heartwarming story filled with great characters, small-town charm, and a lot of emotions. Trace has moved to Helmswood to escape the chaos of his life, find peace, and make a fresh start. He spent months looking for the perfect place and hopes this is it. He left behind a high-profile medical career, due to being pressured to be perfect. He meets Jessica at the community center (he spotted her the day before checking him out as he was getting moved in.) She takes him on a tour of the town, points out all the landmarks, the hidden gems, the best places to get coffee, and fills him in on a few other gems. He stops by the town hall to take care of paperwork for the clinic, the hardware store to pick up supplies for some repairs and makes another acquaintance. Trace feels warmed by the welcome he receives from the people he runs into and is pleased with the move. Jessica feels as if something just is not right about Trace. She is wondering why a neurosurgeon would be interested in running a clinic. You must admit going from brain surgery to sore throats is a dramatic difference. She is wondering what the real reason is for why he’s moved to Helmswood and opened a clinic. The next morning, she sees Trace heading out and catches a ride with him (her car will not start) and discovers some news about him. It seems as if he took a leave of absence from his practice due to the stress of the job. Since there is not much need for a Neurosurgeon in town, she asks what he plans to focus on. His answer of a Cardiologist sits well with her since they have a high population of elderly people in their community. Trace’s first day is busy with patients, and he is feeling even better about his choice of Helmswood. Trace feels the need to try to find out his secret and she will stop at nothing until she uncovers whatever he is hiding. This story is filled with intrigue, the unknown, spying, and more. Will there be a friendship between Jessica and Trace? Will there be more? Why is Jessica so suspicious that Trace is hiding something? What lengths will she go for to find out what he is hiding? You really need to get your copy of The Doctor Next Door and find out the answers to these and oh so many more!
This has been one of the most stress-free reads I've ever had the pleasure to read. It's short, with a fairly simple plot, light romance, but full of amusing antics, especially from the FMC.
Trace Jennings is a newcomer in Helmswood, having transferred to that small town to enjoy a quieter, less stressful life. His neighbor is Jessica Rivers, who's quite taken with her new neighbor but is suspicious as to why he has transferred to their small town. It is that suspicion she has that fuels all of her sneaky investigative antics, trying to unravel Trace's real reasons for having made the move to their small town. Her antics also paved the way for more interactions between them, bringing them closer with each passing day.
In the end, a near-tragedy draws them ever closer to one another. It allows them to truly get to know each other fully, and Jessica's worries about Trace's reasons for being in Helmswood are finally put to rest.
Reading this book was easy and light. If you are used to high-impact and intense stories, you'd either be disappointed at how uncomplicated this story was, or you'd eagerly welcome the change of pace.
I received an advanced review copy of this book for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Small town art store owner and community center volunteer Jessica is curious about her new older neighbor Trace. When she starts investigating why he moved to her town, Trace decides to pull one over on her with the help of a friend. But after all her antics when she’s in trouble will he come to her aid? He walked away from a stressful career as a brain surgeon to be general practitioner. Yes, he was trained to be doctor but with a focus towards specializing not primary care. This was a kisses only romance.
Jessica and Trace come from opposite ends of the stick, so to speak. Treace worked superhero to achieve what he did only to have the demand of perfection forced upon him and to live up to others' expectations. Jessica's family basically disowned her, took her money, and then treated her as a slave for room and board. Because of this, Jessica became suspicious of everyone, including Trace, that she could not find the box in her mind to fit. A truly enjoyable rom-com leaving you feeling good at the end.
The Author pictures growing of attraction of small town new neighbors, Trace and Jessica. Trace moved to Helmswood when looking for peace after chaos and constant scrutiny. Now he is "worlds away' and opens doctor's practice there. Jessica wants to find out his secret and pursue investigation of him. And somehow she manages to take over his life. Nice characters.

This was a cute light hearted afternoon read. Trace is a doctor from New York looking to start over in a small town. He comes to Helmswood to open his new clinic and meets his neighbor Jessica. Jessica has an art store and finds Trace mysterious because he is from a place as exciting as New York but keeps that part of his life a secret. She tries finding out more by spying on him which Trace finds humorous. It is a cute read with some funny light hearted moments. Great for an afternoon read!
