Twenty-seven-year-old Avery White was tired of waiting—waiting to live, waiting to breathe, waiting to finally put herself first. For years, she sacrificed everything to care for her ill mother, and now that chapter had closed. It was time to start living on her own terms. First up? Facing her fear and boarding an airplane for the first time. But when her best friend bails, she’s left to take that step alone… or so she thought. A fleeting, yet oddly intense, encounter with a stranger wasn’t in the plan. Neither was what happened after.
The Enjoy my last days of freedom before duty calls.
For thirty-year-old Maasai McCarter, love had never been a choice—it was an obligation. His entire life was carefully orchestrated, from the way he moved to the way he’d eventually settle down. As the heir to his family’s empire, there was no room for distractions, no room for detours. His fate was sealed. A week of reckless indulgence was supposed to be his final taste of freedom before locking himself into a future he never wanted. But then she happened. A chance meeting. A collision of two souls who weren’t supposed to cross paths.
The One night. No strings attached. No getting attached.
But the mind has a funny way of playing tricks on the heart.
What started as a simple escape—a single night of forgetting their realities—quickly turned into something much more complicated. One night became two. Then three. Then an addiction neither of them could shake. She was his peace, his chaos, his perfect distraction. But was she also his undoing?
Avery never intended to fall, but she also never expected to feel seen—as if Maasai had cracked open the parts of her she kept hidden, the ones even she was afraid to explore. He knew just what to say, just how to push, just how to make her question everything she thought she wanted.
And maybe that was the most dangerous game of all.
In the end, will Maasai choose the life that was carved out for him, or will Avery become the reason he risks it all?
Airplane Mode (An Arranged Marriage) by J. Dominique is a heart-stopping African American romance that delves into the battle between destiny and desire. If you love intoxicating chemistry, emotional mind games, and the kind of passion that makes you question everything, this one’s for you.
J.Dominique always comes through. I really like Mesaai and I hope he gets out of this situation with these snakes. He should have never went there alone. I hope Cruz got his location and comes through in the clutch. I love Avery and her best friend but I don't care for her sister to much. I hope Avery don't be put in harms way now that the opps know who her father. Can't wait till part two.💗💗
First read by this author, and a time was had! Beyond the drama, the laughs were plentiful. Avery finally gets to live her life freely but is scared to do so. Forced to go on the friend trip alone, as Keyani can't make it almost pushes her over the edge. When she meets a handsome stranger on the plane things look up. Well, until she has a panic attack, and he has to assist her. 🤦🏿♀️ Although their interaction was minimal, they both could not get the other off of their mind.
Maasai took a trip to the islands to get his head right before being forced into a sham of a marriage for his rightful place at the top of his father's empire. He was ready to bed as many women as possible, until he met her. He couldn't shake her, so he thinks having her for one night will get it out of his system. Wrong.... 👀 All that did was create a monster. Now Maasai was obsessed with Avery, and did not want to let her go. But again, his hand is forced, making him leave her with no explanation.
Back in the states, Avery is trying to heal her broken heart, while Maasai is trying to find a way out of his dilemma. He is doing everything possible to stay in Avery's good graces, until he can get out of this mess. But Avery is not trying to hear it. She has no time for messy drama. In the meanwhile, the snakes are plotting and planning.
Damn! I never thought that Terrion had it in him to put those two together to undermine Maasai! Now that ending took me out! Maasai! How you get caught slippin'? Ughhh..... Can't wait for the conclusion. Really enjoyed this.
Y'all I keep diving in head first, no questions asked and I get hit with the okie doke...a freaking cliffhanger. As usual, about 97% in I saw it coming. Did it take away from how good and invested I was with the story, nope! Masaai and Avery had me all in with a bowl of popcorn! Really, Masaai is in the Bahamas sowing his royal oats before he has to do this arranged marriage he doesn't want. I mean it was supposed to be nameless, faceless women for the duration, but meeting Avery on the plane has him unable to get her face out of his head...no matter who he's with. Avery is coming off a terrible several years and is finally decompressing with her bestie, except she can't make the trip. Masaai finally approaches Avery with a proposition that leads him to wanting every part of her. Unaware that his future father in law is watching his moves, he has to ghost Avery for her protection. I mean the twists, turns, and revelations was soap opera worthy...like Armand, Armondoo!(just read and see. Masaai was a whole stalker in those Chicago streets.😆Now I'm sitting here, on the edge of this cliff like how long will I be hanging on for part 2? What's going to happen to Masaai? Will Avery take the throne? So many questions!🤔 It's cold in those Chicago streets, and you have to watch ya back even from family because everyone has an agenda. S/N: PLEASE LET KEYANI BREAK CRUZ DOWN BECAUSE HE TALK REAL BIG!!! Happy Reading Y'all!💋
I liked the book. Avery and Maasai meet on a plane and have a week long in the Bahamas together. Maasai is having his "Ho phase" in the Bahamas before he marries the woman he is supposed to marry to take over his families empire. Of course when Maasai returns home he can't stop think about Avery and eventually he gives into all of his desires of seeing her. Avery finds out Maasai is engaged, but he keeps telling her he has to figure it out. Once he figures out how to get out of his marriage, but Avery has to decide after finding out the truth about Maasai if this is really what she wants. Massai also has to figure out if his plan to get out of his engagement will work in his favor or if he will have to continue with the marriage. I liked the book I recommend it. I am ready for book 2!
This book was a first from this author for me and I was immediately sucked in. Maasai gave me the ICK at first because he seemed too free with his private parts, but as I read more I understood the intent behind his trip. Then he met Avery and it was UP from there. We was the epitome of an unhinged crashout and I laughed out loud at several of his antics. Avery recently went through something and while she had her moments, I liked her as a character because she wasn't a pushover. Overall, I liked their banter and the story had a little bit of everything that makes it enjoyable. It does end in a cliffhanger though.
Rich mafia man’s family goes broke, son or daughter has to marry someone to “save” the family insert woman on trip and they have the audacity to throw their money around and make em wait using bullying tactics that in real life scream restraining order. How about no get rid of the girl first and leave me the heck alone until? Yeah the agreed on the bae cation but not him coming around while “engaged” these books are the same why don’t you guys find something more creative to write? I always hope to find a different twist within the same old plot. Didn’t even finish the book already know how it ends.
This was better than I expected. You literally never disappoint. Avery was a bit naive. Everything pointed to his profession. I was honestly expecting her to pop up pregnant but she didn’t. I need her to move a little smarter tho with these men. Her sister… I’m ready for her to go cause she’s annoying.
Maasai got caught slipping in the worst way! Idk why he went alone. I never saw that bomb coming but I should’ve expected considering who it was. I can’t wait to read part 2 and see if Ahmad can help.
Avery just wanted to feel loved and to be ok with losing her mom. Maasai knew what was expected of him but wanted one more hoe phase. They meet and eventually they began a vacation situationship first, but feelings quickly come into play. Now family is turning on him, what will happen now? Maasai has walked into a trap, how will he escape. What about Avery and finding out about her dad. This was a great read, can't wait to see how J. Dominique wraps it up! Gianna wow!!!
I took a star off for it! I don't know how Avery isn't pregnant I swear all the signs point to her being knocked, the headaches, fainting, being super h*rney.....Maasai should have just married Avery instead of telling anyone also just having one shipment isn't going to make someone a king pin to be able to take over a whole operation that sounds crazy to me.
So many secrets are out .i feel for Avery she fell in love with A man maaisy whom have so many secrets went on a trip. Fell in love with Avery. She’s feisty I love her character. He’s in love with her..hope she finally gets a happy ending in spite of her find out who her dad is the game illegally ..maybe her and maaisy will have their happy ending, with Avery getting to know her dad and finding her love with maasya Eventually, he fight to the end ..
It was a so adorable and eye opening. It shows toughie it's nothing like have a great best friend. It hit a lot of real life issues when it comes down to caring for a parent and putting your life on hold. This book had such passion for so many scenarios. It showed how live your life and cover your bucket list lol. Showed how everybody can meet that one that is that one and pull your heartstrings.
OMG I can’t believe that ending and I hope Maasai is okay I knew the LeBlanc’s had something up their sleeves but man I didn’t think it would be this. Titus is so shady it wouldn’t shock me if he had something to do with Maasai’s dad’s death. Avery just finding out about her father. Lawd I need part 2 and can’t wait to find out what happens in the next book.

I knew the moment Avery and Maasai met on the plane. There were going to be a whole more to their story. Avery was finally able to check off thing's on her bucket list after her mother passed away. I knew it was difficult for her being that she was the one who took care of her mother while her jealousy, lazy, smart mouth ass sister Gabriella didn't help with s**t. Meeting Maasai wasn't on that list but a one night stand was. Maasai was on vacation trying to escape the reality of having to go through a arranged marriage he wanted no part's in but knew it had to be done. Avery distracted every part of his mental to the point he had to see why. What Avery and Maasai expected was for feelings to be involved. Avery had no clue who Maasai really was and Maasai knew sooner or later he had to tell her the truth. However Gianna father showing up on his vacation and threatening Avery without her knowledge. Had Maasai ghosting Avery to protect her. Avery feelings were hurt and clueless to what was going on went back home with a broken heart. Gianna was a entitled hoe. I see why Maasai was trying to find way's to back out of getting married. Gianna had no hustle, no substance about her self, no goals, or nothing. Maasai tried his best to stay away from Avery but the heart wants what the heart wants. Avery learning Maasai true identity was beyond pissed. While dealing with her unresolved feelings for him. Avery was still grieving her mother. It wasn't hard to figure out how the man Avery saw at her mother's grave was connected to her. What surprised me was who it was. Cruz is a damn mess. He kept me laughing through the whole book. I think him and Keyani would make a good couple if they got together. The both of them are very blunt and funny. Cruz being Maasai best friend have his back to the fullest. Especially when Maasai learn that his uncle Titus was planning to have Avery kidnapped. It wasn't hard to figure out Titus was on some snake s**t. The questions Cruz ask Maasai about his cousin Aw'sum was legitimate. Aw'sum looking like a snake too. I just shook my head at the way this ended. Avery found out the man she's in love with and her father she just met are Kingpin's. Maasai walked into a trap after going to Terrion and calling off his engagement to Gianna.
Baby I’m over here dancing in my bed when I heard Avery is part of the Armand family so that means they can get married anyway yes but it’s always a bad seed in the family Titus I hope his son ain’t help him cause it’s bout to be some people coming up missing the bout to be painted red I can’t wait to see what happens next see you soon
I just knewwww I was getting a lone vacation, love at first sight type of book, and I was so ready for it. Not only did I get my love at first sight book, I got DRAMA! I literally could not predict anything that was uncovered. All I ask is that the next book contain. Happy ending. I need that next book like I need food! Please!
I was trying to see if I would like this book this is my first read from this author. It definitely drew me in and I was hooked after that. Maasai is crazy he wasn't letting up on Avery. I love Maagic she be driving her brother crazy. I wasn't ready for the end so much happened at once baby I can't wait to see how this play out
I've enjoyed reading this book. From the very beginning, it grabs your attention and holds it throughout. I like how the main characters, Avery and Maasai, meet, starting innocently enough. I like how things progress from there. I can't help but laugh at her. I'm looking forward to reading book two of this series. It was my pleasure reading this book 🥰.
It took me a while to read this book. I could not take the title seriously, so I didn't bother with the book. My sister recommended the book and I was surprised and intrigued. It started off funny, then grew romantic and then got serious as heck! I couldn't put the book down and I'd truly enjoyed it.
Such a good read, can’t wait for part 2. It’s hard to write funny moments in books and this was hilarious especially Maagic meeting Aves. Great Read. J. Dominique is surely becoming a fave!
This is such a good read. From the start the characters started out awesome. Lots of drama, love, and sex. This is not a typical read. it's empowering. I can't wait till the next part of this story. I highly recommend it. It will not disappoint you
I don’t usually leave reviews or want to leave one when the book leaves a cliffhanger unless it’s really good so I must say you had my attention from beginning to end. Can’t wait til part 2!!
I am not happy with the way you ended this book. Oh my goodness where is part two I need it like right now. I’ve been on pens and needles this whole time please and thank you thank you for the adventure. I love your book.
Oh it's about to go down. Let's see how his uncle get his way out of this. Avery is going to have a fit when she knows he is in trouble. Armond is going to have to get his hands dirty in the end.
Maasai supposed to been a kingpin but he lacks wisdom and thinks with the wrong head. I want to see how he gets out of the jam that he got caught slipping in. I don’t understand why he would go to the LaBlancs without Cruz anyway.
The way that Avery and Maasai hooked up and connected seemed destined. I love his alpha male persona and hope he get Avery back. This was a real cliff hanger and so glad I have part 2 in my library ready for me.
This was so refreshing ! Everything was perfect! Characters with so much depth and complexity, the unhinged mafia man, their weeks in the Bahamas! Maasai is not letting up and I love that for our good sis! Can’t wait for the next part!
So her marriage the uncle don't make it work like that but ok. Let me finish this. Mama got some explaining to do....but she dead. This sister is weird. Idk kno if I like this read let me finish good storyline but missing something.
This book is a scandal. And I love it.Honey Avery don't know what to do,one of the things I'm really puzzled about is her mothers actions.Don't want to give it away,so I'm on to the next book!
