Come inside. Shut the door. You’re home now…

Harper Grayson thought she knew fear. As an investigative journalist, she’s faced corruption, lies, and relentless threats. But nothing could prepare her for the real terror. Her husband Adrian Holloway, a charming psychology professor, hides his cruelty behind a mask of care. Their marriage is a battlefield, and Harper is losing ground.

When Adrian proposes a winter retreat at Ravenscreek Lodge, an abandoned mountain estate cloaked in snow and shadows, Harper agrees. It’s their last chance, he says. A place to heal. A place to start over. But the lodge has plans of its own…

The walls seem alive, amplifying their worst fears. As strange figures move in the periphery, Harper begins to doubt her mind and her husband’s intentions.

But the lodge isn’t just a setting; it’s a force, warping reality, and thriving on their unraveling souls.

As the weather closes in, Harper must match Adrian's mind games with her own and navigate a labyrinth of shifting rooms and ghostly whispers to survive. Because in Ravenscreek Lodge, madness is a promise, and escape is not an option…

The Lodge is perfect for fans of masterfully tense psychological horror that dives deep into the human mind’s darkest shadows.

The beginning of the book was promising. However, I lost interest and patience about halfway through. Despite the two main characters being portrayed as a well-known PhD in Psychology and a renowned journalist, their actions often seemed irrational and implausible. Overall, I do not recommend this book, as I found it lacking in depth and coherence.

The plot sounded interesting and had potential to be good. The book needs some more edits. Details kept changing. One second she leaves the journal somewhere, and then the next, it's in her hand again. those details made me confused too often. Maybe some people won't mind it, but I didn't like how it kept changing from first person to 3rd person. I will say that there were some good spooky scenes though.

I had high hopes for this one based on the premise. Who doesn’t love a good haunted house story? The setting, Ravenscreek Lodge, is easily the strongest aspect of the book. There's no doubt that it's a nefarious entity and we see this in great detail through the slow mental decline of the main characters as they fall under the lodge’s control. Even better, is that the lodge is given its own voice, making it feel almost alive and adding a uniquely eerie perspective.

Unfortunately, the book as a whole just didn't keep my attention. The beginning is fast-paced and engaging, which makes you think that the story will maintain its momentum. But once the characters arrive at the lodge, the plot comes to a screeching halt. The suspense and tension is felt at the beginning, but the effect wears off as the psychological mind games between Harper, Michael, and the lodge drag on. It goes on for far too long and quickly becomes repetitive filler.

Neither Harper nor Michael are likeable, but Harper is worse with her constant wildly swinging personalities between a scared, unreliable narrator and a confident, take-charge baddie. The short, titled chapters help break it up into more manageable pieces, but the few bright spots are not enough to make up for the repetitive plot, slow momentum, unlikeable characters and the unsatisfactory ending.

This could’ve been a great psychological horror story, but goes downhill quickly and despite the relatively short length became a chore to finish. I received a free copy of this book and this review reflects my honest opinion.

The Lodge

I really wanted to get into this one, but the FMC (Harper) made that nearly impossible. Her dumb decisions had me walking away from the book multiple times, and not in a good way. I get the whole psychological unraveling angle, but there’s a difference between tension-building and just making a character infuriatingly oblivious. The atmosphere was great—eerie, isolated, and full of creeping dread—but it was hard to stay immersed when I kept rolling my eyes at Harper’s choices.

Michael was a piece of work, but at least he was consistent. Meanwhile, Harper’s back-and-forth between skepticism and full-on paranoia was frustrating to read. The whole “let’s work on our marriage in a secluded lodge” setup was already a red flag, and she just kept ignoring every instinct telling her to get out.

Overall, the writing was solid, and the lodge itself had the makings of a great setting, but the FMC’s decisions were so bad that they ruined the experience for me. If you love atmospheric horror with unreliable narrators, you might still enjoy this one—but for me, it was just too much.

The truth will kill you

This definitely is a paranormal thriller. The more I read, the more I actually reflected on my own past and mind.
The storyline was interesting and very suspenseful with twists and turns on every page.
The two protagonist's entered the decrepit lodge they had rented for a few months as a secluded getaway in hopes of fixing their crumbling marriage.
However, after a short time, strange things started happening, and the couple started arguing more, and the hope of fixing their marriage became a lost cause, creating a bigger rift between them.

The book was definitely more than reading about a haunted house, this storyline left the reader questioning their own life and mind.
The storyline and characters were presented well, and the author had a great imagination in giving a haunted house story a new twist.

The premise of this book had promise - a relationship under strain, trying to repair inside a haunted house. The early pages set up the relationship quite well and quickly, and I especially enjoyed the creative idea of the house having its own POV.

Once inside the lodge, the first several chapters were engaging and fast paced. After that, though, Act 2 lost momentum. Scenes often felt similar to each other and many chapters repeated the same conflicts without raising the stakes.

That said, the unique perspective and early tension may appeal to some readers who enjoy atmospheric, relationship-driven haunted house stories, though it ultimately didn’t work for me.

This is one of the most brilliant things I have ever read. This book is like the haunting of hill house meets the shining, with something extra special mixed in. I couldn't get enough. I am ordering a copy for several people.

After the first few chapters I found myself flicking through the pages to get to the end. A heap of paranormal rubbish. Regretting the time I spent wading through it to find a semblance of the editorial promise.

Middle of the road!

Love creepy, but found this book repetitions and drawn out. Granted, I only got to 54%, and I binned it. So unless I missed the exciting part in the remaining pages, then no. Not for me. Sorry.
