Torn apart and cast to the winds, Mya and her friends have no time to mourn. Their desperate quest calls to them, pushing them forward. Forced to hike across Carne, over the snowy Norricum Mountains and into Kallizaros, their only hope for salvation is finding a single goblin who can repair what was broken. But will they be able to do it before the scourge of the Followers of the Evening Star envelops the entire Protectorate with their lies?
Tarek and his acolytes continue to swell in number. After the destruction of the last remaining remnants of the Protectorate in Triskia, their desires spread to Liliyana. They are joined by the Daughters of the Sun and the Holy Religious Triskian Army. The call for vengeance consumes everything in its path, and they call for the blood of Kamun-Ra to satisfy the scales of justice.
The Mya of Thebes Chronicles continue with the fourth instalment in a highly imaginative fantasy series. Combining classic high fantasy with ancient history, it creates an environment that brings the reader into a world that feels like it is a lost part of our own history. Follow Mya and her remaining friends on a journey to overcome loss and betrayal, all while trying to prevent the destruction of their world as they know it.
The fourth installment of the Mya of Thebes Chronicles doesn't just continue the story--it deepens it. With the group fractured and danger tightening around the Protectorate, this novel hits heavier than the ones before it.
What stands out is how grounded fantasy world feels. It's layered with world building history that makes me want to visit IRL. My favorite in this book is the Goblin city. It had a glorious steampunk feel that felt fresh and yet fit with the rest of the settings encountered thus far.
Mya, as always, is a compelling lead--flawed, fierce, and trying to hold it together while everything around her is falling apart. She has aged, matured, as the series continues, and in book four, we get to see that culmination rise in beautiful ways.
I was lucky enough to receive this book as an ARC copy from the author/publisher. I highly recommend the series--clean teen fantasy, in a fresh world with Egypt feels.
Mya’s story continues as her and her companions all split up on varied journeys and predicaments trying to find a solution to the division of the Protectorate and the anger raging through their world. This novel is full of action, danger, heartache, death defying incidents, and so much more.
What an ending!! I was so excited to pick up this book and continue reading Mya’s adventures as they all have been captivating to read. This one was insane. I loved the fast pace and constant addition of new and often challenging situations for each character along the way. An amazing and well written addition to the Mya of Thebes tales and has me on the edge of my seat for the next book to come!
