Makari I grew up around the outlaw world of motorcycle clubs, distancing myself after losing my brother in a brutal club war. Now thrown back into a world I wanted to leave behind with no option left, I called Dutch—hating that I needed him. He was the kind of man who commanded the room—every glance exuding heat and danger that was impossible to ignore. And I should be afraid of him. But Dutch pulled me in, breaking through my defenses in ways I couldn’t explain. I wanted to resist him. God knows I needed to. Because falling for a man like Dutch? That would destroy me faster than any enemies breathing down my neck.
Dutch Makari drove me crazy. She was stubborn, too reckless for her own good, and walking straight into a fire she didn’t understand. I should walk away. Hell, I wanted to walk away. But I couldn’t. She got under my skin in ways no one else ever could, but love? That wasn’t on the table. It never would be. I had my own demons to wrestle with. My crew challenged me about getting distracted. I was here to protect her—nothing more. At least, that’s what I keep telling myself. Protecting Makari wasn’t just about keeping her safe anymore. It was about not losing the one thing I never thought I’d care enough to fight for.
I don’t know anything about motorcycle clubs, but these men be on each other’s necks for real! Makari, girl…. How you get caught up with two men from rival clubs? 👀
The drama, suspense, mystery, betrayal, and deception was nuts! I kept going back and forth to see who was really on the up and up here. Everyone was a suspect! Makari was strong, but stubborn as hell! I thought for sure she would get herself kidnapped and harmed with those dangerous moves she was making. 😤 However, she had Dutch watching her back and front. This man knew that he had lost her once, and did not plan on losing her again. Ish got sticky a couple times, and I was not sure what would happen, but it all worked out. Enjoyed the chaotic energy in this one.
This book was my least favorite of the whole series. The story kept jumping from one topic to the next. There’s no clear understanding of what’s going on for real with the fmc brother. The back and forth between her and Dutch was exhausting.
This is hard to finish. As someone else stated it’s like you’re jumping into the second part of a story already started. Idk any history of the MCs the male or female. The story just takes off and then you start going around in circles. I’m 55% into the book and I’m still not sure what exactly is going on with the history between the characters. Did she use to be apart of Dutch’s crew or did her and brother use to be apart of a different crew and they split up? Did she use to date Jahlil? Like when are the answers going to start coming? I don’t too much care for the MFC or the MMC, they both act slow asf to me. Every time you think it’s going to get somewhere it doesn’t. I’m not gone finish, this actually could have been a great story but there are sooooo many missing details, esp the history of all the characters including her brother. It’s like watching part 2 to a movie and never seeing part one. So yea they could’ve kept this one out.
What is the connection with this whole collection? There should have been an intro book to start this off, because right now this whole BLP thing is not making sense. I’ve read other collections like this where different authors collaborate but somehow they all connected in some way. There would also be some type of intro. That’s doesn’t mean all the books in the collection was good matter of fact i didn’t even finish it, but i understood the connection.
Dutch and Makari had history. Dutch definitely was THAT MAN! They also had pain, mistrust, and a whole lot of stubbornness. When she called, he came running. The problems surrounding the death of her brother and ghosts from both of their past created havoc and a lot of unnecessary back and forth. There was so much potential for this book, but I felt the plot holes like potholes. How does she just disappear from her shop and nobody is looking for her? What was the extent of her and Jahlil's relationship? Was Malakhi raising her, where were her parents? It wasn't terrible, but it could have been more fleshed out. This is my first read by this author, but I'm going to see what else she has. Happy Reading Y'all!💋
I enjoyed Dutch and Markari’s fast-paced story. It’s a novella set in the world of motorcycle gangs, deception, and family betrayal. I appreciate a multifaceted author. Unlike her previous works, Torryn shifts from sweet contemporary romance to delve into the art of romantic suspense, and she doesn’t disappoint. Dutch is a high-stakes novella packed with enough twists and spice to keep readers on edge until the final scene. The escalating danger and romantic intensity are perfectly balanced as Dutch and Markari race against the clock to uncover a mystery while dodging threats from an unknown enemy. No spoilers, but I will warn you: no one should be trusted.
I love the way Torrance wrote this one! Baby she surprised me with the down right grit of the MC clubs. I love the way two people came back together and finally realized what it was. I like this style because it lets me know that love is what it is and with Dutch and Makari things couldn’t be more right.
The twists and turns in this book had me on edge. I love Torryn’s books anyway but this gave her a whole other world to dominate. Great read Torryn!
The writing in this book was so bad that I just stopped reading after the third chapter! Storyline just not cohesive at all. I rarely give up on a book so quickly, but this one made it very easy.
This book is confusing with a ton of unanswered questions. No chemistry between the main FC and MC. This book starts like this is a continuation or something. Is this book an age gap because the lead female character refers to the main male character as an old man. This entire Motorcycle series is disconnected and really shouldn’t even be linked together as such.
This one wasn’t it. This was supposed to be a second chance romance? There were more questions than answers. Makari is very annoying and it did not feel like the attraction was there between Dutch and Makari.
I liked Dutch and Makari, separately and together. Makari was fiercely independent and headstrong, and Dutch was a fixer and protector. Makari stayed giving Dutch a run for his money with her stubbornness and smart mouth 😂
When we get introduced to them and Jahlil, I thought there was going to be some kind of love triangle going on. I think I would’ve liked that better than the plot we got.
The plot focuses on figuring out what actually happened to Malakai (Makari’s brother), why it happened, and what a ledger has to do with it. There were so many secrets and roundabouts that it felt a little all over the place. I started not to care about what actually happened to Malakai or the why 🤷🏾♀️
The relationship between Dutch and Makari serves as the B-plot and is a second chance trope. There’s a bit of “Will they? Won’t they?” but they eventually get their shit together.
A little later in the book, Deacon from “Deacon” makes an appearance because the Sons of Shadows and the Baxtown Iron are brother clubs. Despite Deacon’s book being after this one in the BLP Motorcycle Club series (number 9), there’s a brief mention of Squeak, the FMC. It doesn’t spoil anything though so if you haven’t read that book yet, you’re good.
🚨 SPOILER ABOUT THE BIG BAD 🚨
Darian isn’t a character we spend time with so his betrayal didn’t really hit the way I think it was supposed to. We only ever hear about Darian through stories and conversations from other characters. We don’t experience Darian firsthand until damn near the end of the book. Now if the betrayal came from Saint or Tiya, I’d feel differently.
I was deep in the BLP Motorcycle Club series when I picked up Dutch, and it was definitely a solid read. The overprotective, alpha energy of the MMC? Loved that. Dutch was giving everything I enjoy in a leading man—strong, capable, and ready to handle business.
But Makari, girl… whew! How are you asking for help but then refusing it at every turn? She called Dutch (even if it was reluctantly), but then kept trying to go off and handle things alone—like, ma’am, let the man do what he does best! There was a lot happening in this story, and I’ll admit, at times I got a little lost in all the moving pieces. But overall, the read was enjoyable, and I found myself invested in how everything played out.
Even with a few moments that had me side-eyeing Makari, I still had a good time with this book. Dutch made enough of an impression that I definitely want to check out more of Torryn Santana’s work!
I’m probably not going to finish this book. I’m literally only 9% in and I can already tell that the way this is written is going to tick me off! How is it that Makari is dialing Dutch’s number and in the next paragraph she’s looking at his contact information being told by her bestie to call him…?? Or how does Dutch get the call, tell her to stay put, go back to playing pool, and then get confronted by his crew for hearing that he’s been talking to Makari and he’s been off…??? This is only 1.5 chapters in… who wrote this?!? No who edited this?? Get your money back please!!! I have been trying to no be so judgmental because authors are human BUT invest in your craft!! This is poor writing.
I’m sorry but this story was all over the place but comes together at the same time. Makari’s life was shaken up and she has to call the one person she knows can help but fights his about it ever chance she gets. She frustrated the hell out of me. Do you want help or not and if you are going to keep putting your self in harms way girl why the hell did you call that man? Dutch loved this woman that’s all there is too it. Their history is a part of what stands in the way and all of what was not said in the past and secrets haunt them now. The ghost of the past is after them both and while they are both making moves no one is talking and getting it all on the table. That’s another thing that frustrated me. Jahlil was playing the fence but I can appreciate he tried to warn Makari the best way he the thought he could. I was hopping that Malachi was still alive.
I loved this MC story!Makari and Dutch went through all kinds of feelings of: trust & loyalty, love, hate, and other turmoil before they got it right. There was doubt & mistrust and secrets surrounding Dutch's life before the MC brothers. Meanwhile, Makari needed protection and demanded the truth and closure about her brother's death (Malakai) from her brother's childhood friend Jahlil and Dutch. I feel I still don't know everything, but I'm satisfied with what I know.
The suspense kept me on the edge and glued to the story. Through all of what they encountered, they were each other's rock. Each other's ride and die for life.
This standalone is lit. My couple was going through some things from their past that wouldn’t stay there. The one I was starting to hate he was still tryna watch over her by the sly. But Dutch was making it known that no harm was going to happen to my girl. She was just so hard headed. I’m glad Darin met his maker. Saint and they guys came around they didn’t want the club to go to war but they was there till the end. U did good on the first book that I read of urs and im looking forward to reading more of them. Sitting here patting my feet while sipping on Pepsi and while eating popcorn while waiting on the next book to read
Not my favorite out of this series so far (I'm about to start Book 6 - Hellraiser). The FMC was exhausting and annoying. How do you ask someone for help but get an attitude because they're protecting you but you're too busy playing "Ms. Independent"? The MMC was sweet but just as confusing as the FMC.
There were a lot of holes in the storyline. What exactly happened to the FMCs brother? What exactly was he involved in? How and why did the "bad" characters play a role in the demise of the brother? What's in the ledger?
It was hard to complete but I did. I won't say this is a reflection of the author's work in totality. I just think this particular body of work was a miss.
I will check out other books in her catalogue and you should too. 😉
Dutch & Makari made me almost pull out my hair lol. She was beyooonnnnddddd stubborn. Like whyyyy, I just want to know whyyyyy. It’s okay to take lead in your life but to keep dangling yourself in front of the lion was what lost me. Dutch holding in the most important parts of him for him to later let it weigh him down could’ve been deadly for everyone. I’m glad he finally chose himself by picking Markari but I do wish he had of stood stern more with her instead of making her play victim. I still feel as tho he was more involved with Malaki but we’ll never know.
Dutch and Makari, When the Past Shows You True Love
Babyyyyy, Dutch had the patience of a saint and I do mean he had some serious patience because Makari stressed nerves I didn’t know I had!!!… I hollered more time than I care to admit for her to sit her busy body tail down Ana let the men do what they said would do to keep her safe!!!… I enjoyed the book and my heart dropped at the reality that her brother was definitely gone!!!…I was so hoping for sure she would see him by the end of the book!!!… The restoration of her brother’s bike was definitely a beautiful gesture!!!!…
interesting underlying story but could use some editing
I really wanted to love this book. The underlying story is good and interesting, has the potential to be action packed. But the writing was pretty choppy. I kept feeling like I was missing details. Conversations between characters seemed incomplete and disjointed. And the transitions from one scene to the next didnt flow. I made it to the end because i was intrigued by the “reveal”. If not I probably would not have finished, unfortunately.
Another good read. Jahill in his own way was trying to keep word by keeping Malaria safe but her wanting answers immediately always seemed to land her in trouble, because Jahill didn't get into full details as to why he needed the ledger he thought he was doing what was best if only he and Dutch joined forces to take down their mural enemy things may not have ended in a negative way for him. After everything was done Dutch was able to put the MC life behind him and keep the woman he had grown to love.
Dutch and Makari were teuly meant for each other. Dutch had so many secrets hindering him, but he refused to get that to stop him from having a second chance with Makari. Makari was strong-willed and independent almost to a fault.
Thankfully, the things that brought them back together again didn't break them. If anything, they were able tobface their fears. Family and friendships were everything to Dutch and Makari!
Dutch and Makari went through so much to be at peace. Jahlil took Makari through some things just to get to the truth about Malaki. Dutch was there no matter how stubborn she wanted to be. Dutch wasn't allowing anyone to harm Makari. Darian wanted to hunt her to get back at Dutch, but he would never allow that! With the help of his MC Crew, he took care of all problems. He and Makari were happy and in love! Awesome read!
At the end of the book, I was left with questions. There was a jump at the end and something was missing. Like the story was rushed and just dropped off. No info about the fight between the MC’s……..nothing about what Makari did after she left…..why no one bothered her after she walked out of the MC with the book……I could go on. Was a good storyline but the storytelling was choppy and inconsistent.
I wanted to like this book, it had potential, the story line was good but I felt like I was left with a lot of unanswered questions. The book felt choppy and rushed to me. A lot of details that should have been in the book were left out. There were times when I felt like I couldnt even follow along with the conversation. I like Dutch and I like Makari but felt like there needed to be more details as to what was actually going on.
This was my first book by this author and it left much to be desired. Often time the book felt like you were missing important background information and when you finally got it, it felt incomplete. There were large plot holes and the timeline jumped around a lot. Also Dutch and Makari kissed or had sex at the most inopportune times. There was no real chemistry and it all felt forced. The first few chapters drew you in but it lacked after the 50% mark.
I liked this book overall, but I'm still left with questions. The author built up so much suspense about what truly happened to Malakai, just to never give a clear and concise explanation. Then the video of him made zero sense to the story, and it only have false hope that he was alive. Dutch being involved never was explained either, and Jahlil dying left more unanswered questions. They had a nice love story though.
This is just my opinion and maybe later it might change. I couldn’t get with this story. The FMC was my biggest fan. She seemed helped then went all out to try and prove how much she really didn’t need the help. Couldn’t listen and created more problems for herself then already created. The beginning was all over the place and the ending seemed rushed to get the ideas across.
This was a good one.. it became a bit cringy at some points because the FMC was just too stubborn. Like girl, sit down somewhere please. It also took a while and didn’t really explain the MMCs involvement with the brother but whatever.
I liked the second chance romance about it and the lil tug of war they had with their feelings. In the end, love conquers all.
No lie I love Dutch .. heart face emoji ahhh that me sighing … Makari hands down is my most hated character… she annoyed me after while bcz I get the whole independent woman vibe bcz I was relating to her until she was doing unreasonable things .. couldn’t rock with her after that but I don’t want to taint ur impression of this story… ITS INE IM HOPING HAS MORE TO COME … I need more Dutch .. sad face emoji heavy sigh !!!! Happy reading
I thoroughly enjoyed this Motorcycle Club story. Makari and Dutch's journey was filled with a rollercoaster of emotions, including trust, loyalty, love, hate, and turmoil, before they finally found their footing. The narrative was layered with doubt, mistrust, and secrets surrounding Dutch's past before his involvement with his Motorcycle Club brothers. Meanwhile, Makari sought protection and demanded answers about her brother's death, seeking closure. Despite some unanswered questions, I felt satisfied with the outcome. The suspense kept me engaged, and I appreciated how Makari and Dutch supported each other through thick and thin, becoming each other's rock." Great read!
