My family’s empty beach house, my older brother’s best friend, and a long, hot summer ahead…
I thought I’d be spending my summer all alone at the beach house, writing a new book with the perfect backdrop. No family, no distractions, and definitely no long-buried crushes popping up out of nowhere to strut around all sweaty and gorgeous.
It wouldn’t be so bad if most of the house weren’t under renovation, leaving us with just one bedroom to share… and, of course, just the one bed. I’ve written enough smutty romance novels to know we only have one choice. We’re going to have to bang. Just once, to get it out of our systems.
I don’t make the rules, but I’ll happily follow them. I just hope my brother isn’t too mad when he finds out how we’re spending our summer…
K.M.Neuhold has long since been a romance junkie. When she’s not writing she’s reading or spending time snuggling with her husky or her husband. She fell in love with M/M romance last year and hasn’t been able to turn back. There’s nothing she loves more than love in all its forms.
A completely rushed, over-enthusiastic but totally amusing story. Quite a lot was crammed into a few pages and of course it's insta-lust with a quick transition to "forever". But it's really well done, I had a big grin on my face and the characters are very endearing. And yes, definitely lots of sex, maybe too much? I don't know, it was fitting.
My hole twitches greedily, and another wave of needy heat rushes through my body. “But I hope you’re not expecting a quick fuck. I have a few long-standing fantasies I’d like to satisfy before I’m finished with you.”😳🌶️😳
But also a touch of depth and so swoon-worthy
“We can do anything you want, Nols,” he answers. “It’s our story, and we can write it any way we like.” “As long as there’s a happily ever after,” I say, and he brushes his lips against mine softly. “Of course there is. I’m a romance author, after all.” 🫠🥰🫠
Very rushed story with everything magically working out perfectly. Nolan hasn't drawn in years after getting his art degree and now after being laid off his data analyst job, he somehow manages to create a portfolio great enough to land an interview and a job working for a new video game company. Maybe this is just a tired millennial in me talking but come on.
I don't mind spice but the ratio of spice to the overall story was too high for me personally.
First of all this is a short story. It isn’t long enough to be called a novella, it needs to be 100 pages to be considered a novella.
It is nothing more than a formula heterosexual romance where the heterosexual couple was replaced by a gay couple. Love is love, but the dynamics and the intimacy is different in a gay relationship. They obviously are not in this story.
There is a group of authors who are writing gayMM romances and their audience is composed mainly of straight females. The works lack the true dynamics of real gay male friendships and relationships. This is fine there is a market for it, but most gay males are not going to relate to it. This short story is one of them.
All the above aside the story is too contrived and there is no description of the characters. All you know is one has a beard and is well endowed.
Super cute, super spicy, super quick read. I have mixed feelings about the ugly duckling trope, but it didn't bother me overmuch when paired with the brother's best friend trope and wasn't the main focus of the story. In general, I prefer a little more build up before the MCs fall into bed together, but with a novella timelines necessarily speed up. I loved how much swagger Caspian had and how confident he was in himself when he meets Nolan again after years without seeing each other.
The time skips don't do much to enhance the story as ultimately they only serve as a mechanism for the author to tell the reader than things are going well for the couple without having to show them getting closer or adding much depth, plot or development. I enjoy the author's easy writing style and both characters were likeable and had me rooting for them. Although things kind of move along too easily and smoothly I did enjoy the way Caspian encouraged Nolan to follow his dreams and passions. The big reveal to Slater (Caspian's older brother/Nolan's best friend) was done really well and I adored the little plot twist that was thrown in - I giggled like a maniac
This was a fun, light read for me to pass time with on a bus while on vacation.
Caspian and Nolan PLEASE be aware that this summary/review is meant for my own purposes in order to help me recall this book and definitely has spoilers. It is in no way a reflection of what I think anyone else will like or want out of a book. It is simply a memory aid and a rough voice-to-text which is completely unedited/reviewed for errors. Read at your own discretion.
This is a short story/Novella about Nolan who just lost his job and was asked to move out of his apartment so he's going to spend the summer in his best friend, Slater's, family beach house. When he gets there, Slater's younger brother Caspian is already there planning to spend the summer writing his next book. Nolan has not seen Caspian since he was a teen and he has grown into a very large confident man. Caspian has had a crush on Nolan since he was a boy. They are both gay and out. There is an immediate attraction and they hook up. They quickly realize they have feelings for each other. They are a little nervous about telling Slater but when they do he is immediately and completely accepting. Nolan gets his dream job as a video game artist and they move to Portland. They later briefly appear as side characters in Gymbos which is Slater's book.

This was fine. A romance author (of course) plans to go to his parents beach house to work but discovers his older brother's best friend Nolan (whom he's always crushed on) is there to recover after losing his job and his apartment. It doesn't take long for the author to explain that due to construction they have to share one bedroom (and one bed of course) and within pretty much minutes they are involved and just wondering how it's going to work out as Nolan lived on the other coast and do they tell Cas's brother.
It was very rushed and just kind of hopped around. It's now weeks later and they are doing x. Days later and they are having sex again. It just kind of glossed over how they got to know each other again as they hadn't seen each other in years. So it was fine but just didn't have much depth to the characters in my opinion.
As a super short, super light, very spicy and fairly romantic story, it works. Mostly. Kinda. Personally, I can't help wanting more: the sweetness had no bite to it, there was no hesitation over the best friend's brother, the friend was in a bad place in life but that was just a reason for him to spend so much time with him, only one bed trope (advertised with the title itself) feels false, the point is to force characters together, to create friction and tension and forced proximity that leads to.. something, these two would have fallen into one bed anyway (btw, where were the renovators?). I get that the short format encourages simple solutions and simple problems but this piece didn't have any, really and both tropes failed spectacularly to be themselves or contribute in a meaningful way.
Caspian is staying at the family's beach house for the summer to write. Unknown to him, his brother gives the house to his best friend, Nolan, for the summer as he has lost his job and apartment. Caspian has always had the hots for Nolan and lies to him, telling him there is only one bedroom as the rest are being remodeled. Will Caspian's fantasy come true this summer?
I had fun with this story. Nolan has no problem sharing a bedroom with Caspian. The whole summer is one big fantasy for them both. When Caspian's brother shows up at the end of the summer, the jig is up. It was fun watching the truth come out. I liked Caspian and Nolan a lot.
A very short novella-length story that felt like it was too rushed.
Nolan has been laid off and kicked out of his apartment all in the same week. He's offered space for the summer at the beach house that belongs to his best friend Slater, but when he arrives he finds Slater's very cute cub younger brother Caspian is also staying there. They amicably decide to share the house and then Caspian remembers that the other spare bedrooms are under renovation, so they'll have to share one bed. And that's how the two of them are in bed and fucking away the summer.
Caspian doesn't get much character building, and Nolan gets the bear minimum as a data analyst who falls back onto his love of drawing, long neglected for years, to land himself a new job with.a video game company.
A very great novella to read when u just need something fun and quick to binge in the summer time or a day at the beach (if ur in places that don't experience summer 🌞⛱️). This book being a 3⭐ isn't because I didn't enjoy it as much as people did but because I feel like it deserves the spot here as a novella. I only think that the five star spots belong to the books that are long and take time to develop a romance in them💒That's the reason why I gave this a 3⭐ and not a four or five! It was great and I would highly, highly recommend for the summertime 👍🏾😃
This was not my thing. Two guys get together, have lots of sex and decide they're in love. There's no conflict in the relationship, and very mild conflict outside the relationship.
This book introduces Slater, who will star in his own book later, but we don't really get to know him at all. He's big, not terribly smart, but a nice, affectionate guy. I'll probably read his book because I generally like Neuhold's work, but this book didn't make me want to read his book more.
If you like low angst romance with lots of sex, give this book a chance.
A quick freebie from one of my favourite romance author. It was cute and fast. The sex scenes were nothing to remember but it was a nice way to take a break today.
The only thing I found over the top was (mini spoiler) was that an artist who hasn’t touched his pencils in years not only managed to get back into it so quickly but also managed to switch to digital and have his new artworks be so good he’ll get hired so soon.
Nolan and Caspian were great. Nolan is at loose ends after being let go from his job and kicked out of his apartment. He takes his best friend’s offer to stay at the family beach house…not knowing that Caspian-the younger brother-is already there, or that Caspian has had a crush on him for years. I loved Caspian’s confidence and his cheerfulness. And I loved seeing Nolan find the joy in his art again and reach for his dreams. They were a great fit and I loved them!
A fun and lovely romance. Light and summery, Caspian and Nolan reunite after years of not having seen each other, and Caspian makes quite an impression!
It’s a quick and easy story, and given that they both already have history get to move forward quickly. Just catching up on life since, and particularly, what led Nolan to seeking out the beach house for the summer.
It’s full of exploration and vacation vibes, but what I loved most was Caspian pushing Nolan to follow his dreams.
KM Neuhold never disappoints! What a blast this was! I was giggling and kicking my feet through the entire thing!
Cas and Nolan were adorable and I love how instantly they gave in to their connection. Quick, fun super easy read and I just loved the “best friend’s brother and only one bed” and how they played into this!
This one is a keeper for me; I’m adding it to my library. The fact that a romance book plot could be for real is both fantasy and great. When my going gets rough, I’ll bring out this book. Please keep your stories coming. Can’t wait for the new series and to find out the future for Caspian, Nolan and Slater with the Beach house included.
I first read this as part of an author giveaway last year, but it wasn't on Goodreads, so I couldn't review. I figured it was time for a reread, so ...
Short, sweet, fun read. Great for an hour on the beach or in the garden with a cocktail in the sun. A perfect palette cleanser. Caspian and Nolan were both sweethearts and there was zero angst.
Brisk and enjoyable enough, but probably wouldn't tell anyone to go out of their way to read it. I guess I can't expect too much plot from such a short book, but still, I just didn't really connect to the characters or the romance. The tropes have potential but are not really dug into even a little.
Overall a cute, enjoyable read. As it was a Novella, there was insta lust turned into insta love where everything is sugary sweet and works out magically perfect at the end. That said I really liked the characters and was pleasantly surprised by the depth they both got in such a short amount of time. I wish that the characters got a full book.
I wish we woulda got a full on story with these guys. Don't get me wrong they were hot, fun and playful but it left me wanting. I learned of Cas and No even i was reading Jacked and the little presence they had there made me want to hot all the things about them. I guess at least the summer was fun!
Really cute and easy read. A perfect antidote to the heavier book I was in the middle of and needed a reprieve from. It's all very over the top and convenient but I'll not hold that against it as it made me smile.
This is a very generous 3 star because it's so short, lol. It was sweet, but the only conflict was that I was aware of this story but couldn't remember if it was supposed to connect to a previous series or just the new one.
What a lovely little story. The story moves along quickly and is a delightful read. Realistic enough to be possible. Definitely a feel good read. Leaves you with the hope that good things can happen to good people! Love the HEA ending.
Nolan’s best friend Slater is letting him stay at his family’s beach house for the summer. Enjoy how Nolan and Slater’s younger brother Caspian reconnect on many levels in fun and steamy ways!!!
ONLY ONE BEACH HOUSE was a cute and sexy novella with one of my favorite tropes, brother's best friend! Caspian was flirty and sweet and I loved the way he encouraged Nolan to go after his dreams. This wasn't overly deep but it was fun.
I didn't realize this was a novella (sigh), but it was fun. It didn't have much growth or tension -- it was just a fluffy, easy read (with lots of sex, as is usual with Neuhold). Since I skimmed all the sex scenes, it felt especially short, haha.
I just love a sweet, simple meet cute where the couple just gets it and stays together. I love the confidence of Caspian - he knows he’s a beefcake! I’m excited for more from K. M. Keyhold!
