The Beast Bangs Back
4.5 ⭐️ 5 🌶️

If you’re craving a steamy retelling of Beauty and the Beast, buckle up—this one trades ballgowns for bedroom growls. After Amelie’s run-in with a wolf leads her to a cursed castle (and an even more cursed beast with some ahem unique upgrades), sparks fly in all the right and very wrong ways. The plot? Light. The spice? Absolutely delicious in the best way. L.J. Burkhart blends wit, heat, and a touch of fairytale nostalgia in this fast-paced monster romp where the real queen might just be the witch. Short, sinful, and impossible not to devour in one sitting.

I am glad that I read it, but it wasn't for me. Definitely recommend it if you want a quick spicy monster-ish romance with zero plot.
This was a quick read, and I did enjoy some of the banter and spicy scenes; however, the main plot didn't make sense. This doesn't open with any world-building descriptions or how the character looks (I don't remember if she was described). This is almost the most basic version of the Beauty and the Beast story with a few changes. Beast is a combination of multiple animal types; "Belle" is a witch who is important to the storyline (hint, hint); and "Gaston" is a nice guy who is a bit obsessed with the FMC. I understand that it was just over 100 pages, but the plot was rushed and didn't flow well enough for the spicy scenes to make sense or to make the story fully enjoyable.

I've read a handful of LJ Burkhart books now, and while I think all of them need some substantial revisions, by far this one seems the most "first draft" to me.

I was hoping as more books were published, the writing would get better, but it seems to be going in the opposite direction...

LJ, if you want one shit ton of amateur revisions, hmu before your next publish.

This was a spicy novella retelling of Beauty and the Beast. I was pleasantly surprised that this one had primal play, growling and knotting. Fun quick read!
