The DOSA Files RETURNS with NINE new Superhero Stories!
The Award-Winning Supervillain Rehabilitation Project series expands with this new nine-story anthology of exciting superhero (and villain!) tales.
Enter a world of superpowered heroes... and villains. Of epic adventure and hope.
In this collection you'll find tales of humor, action, and suspense. Meet brave heroes, quippy villains, and desperate vigilantes.
All featured stories are PG or lower, making this a great read for all ages, but especially for fans of superhero fiction, heartfelt moments, and snarky humor.
Featuring New Superhero Stories from Award Winning authors as well as exciting new voices in the genre.
Each anthology in the DOSA Files contains one short story by series originator, H.L. Burke, as well as multiple stories from other authors writing in the world.
Born in a small town in north central Oregon, H. L. Burke spent most of her childhood around trees and farm animals and was always accompanied by a book. Growing up with epic heroes from Middle Earth and Narnia keeping her company, she also became an incurable romantic.
An addictive personality, she jumped from one fandom to another, being at times completely obsessed with various books, movies, or television series (Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and Star Trek all took their turns), but she has grown to be what she considers a well-rounded connoisseur of geek culture.
Married to her high school crush who is now a US Marine, she has moved multiple times in her adult life but believes that home is wherever her husband, two daughters, and pets are.
She is the author of a four part fantasy/romance series entitled "The Dragon and the Scholar," the Award Winning (2016 Realm Award for Young Adult Fiction) Nyssa Glass Steampunk series, and MG/Fantasy "Cora and the Nurse Dragon," among others .
This is a great anthology! Perfect for superhero fans looking for something bite-sized to read or listen to.
I'm like the OG KC fan, so I loved reading his backstory and how he turned from the "good twin" to teaming up with a supervillain to take down... well... if you know you know.
All the stories were fun additions to the DOSA universe.
I loved "Civic Duty" by Amber Gabriel, which showcases Elam Bentley, previously known as the Rubber Bandit, in his bid to go straight. However, leaving supervillainy also means doing jury duty...which turns out to be not as boring has he expected! (Gabriel has also just published Stretched Thin, a novella about Elam, which you should totally check out.)
"The Fluffy Guardian" by K.L. Miracle was a heart-warming read, about a sable deep undercover who's learning that maybe he's gotten it all wrong. Maybe he can be part of a family again.
"London Bridge is Falling Down" by C.O. Bonham follows Violet Revelt from Volume 1, and creates a super-involved family adventure.
"Cloudburst" by Talitha Renae Borstad is another heart-wrenching one, with two siblings trying to stay together despite their powers.
These are the four that I loved the most, but all of the stories were great reads.
H. L. Burke invited other authors to come play in her Supervillain Rehabilitation Project universe, a far-reaching and flexible enough setting to welcome a wide range of tones and imaginative concepts that all feel like they belong. Volume II features a lot of characters choosing to go it alone rather than join the Department of Super-Abled (DOSA) because they don’t trust the government superhero organization, whether based on experience or hearsay. Some are new to their powers and figuring things out, while others are former villains or trapped working for current villains. While all the stories in this volume were strong and feature fascinating superpowers, I was especially delighted to meet Amber Gabriel’s Rubber Bandit again. Stretchy ex-supervillain on jury duty? Bring it on!
Whether you’re already an SVR fan or just want to enjoy some short family-friendly superhero adventures, I recommend this book and the whole series.
I am one of the authors in volumes I and III and received advance-reader ebooks from the publisher.
This was a fun collection of superhero short stories. I'd never read anything in the SVR Universe before, but that didn't matter. Everything was well explained and easy to follow along.
I wasn't a huge fan of the first story, because it was more of a prequel than a complete story. So be warned, it isn't resolved. But the others were great! Especially the London Bridge one by C.O. Bonham and the one about an uncle being the family's dog by Kasey Miracle.
If you love superheroes, then you'll love this collection.
It's difficult to decide which of these stories was my favorite. "London Bridge is Falling Down" has great steampunk vibes, some unique non-conformist characters, nursery rhymes, and a surprise theme of healing and forgiveness. "A Fluffy Guardian" has some hilariously awkward moments, a cute little girl, and an admirably protective MC. "The Good Twin," by H.L. Burke is a must-read for fans of K.C. and Switch, plus many more interesting stories with unusual superpowers and unique takes on heroism. Loved them all!
