The book was adorable. It needed a little proofing though. There were a few minor grammatical errors, syntax issues, and Dovid was spelled David on at least one instance that I noticed. The story itself was very cute. It could've been more fun if the pages were written as rhymes, but it was certainly good enough without it.

Illustrations were beautiful, but they were also a little confusing because it felt like there were a dozen different illustrators involved. Some pages were photographs. Others were drawn, and the ones that were drawn had distinct styles from one page to another. Characters' hair, height, freckles, etc. all varied. But that was easy to ignore because they were so well done.

The only thing that I really didn't like was the little SpaceX mention. Would've preferred a generic rocket ship. Anything related to that man makes me nauseous. Kids won't necessarily know about it, but it felt like a little gratuitous product placement.

Short, sweet, and easy. Great for new readers.

Dovid and Sara: Searching for Martian Donuts is such a fun and creative children’s book that instantly pulls you into its world. The story follows siblings Dovid and Sara who hear about a strange donut discovered on Mars by NASA’s Perseverance rover. Instead of just being curious from a distance, they decide to take action they plan a trip to Mars to find out the truth about these mysterious donuts. This idea felt so fresh and playful that I couldn’t stop smiling while reading. It made me remember my own childhood curiosity about space and how I used to wonder if there were hidden surprises waiting on other planets.

What I love most about this book is how it mixes adventure with good values. Dovid and Sara don’t just run off to space they show respect by asking their parents for permission first. And when they think about bringing cookies as a gift, it shows how thoughtful they are. This part really touched me because it reminded me of how important kindness and sharing are, no matter where you are Earth or Mars. The book teaches these lessons in such a natural way that kids will enjoy the story and learn something without even realizing it.

The writing is clear and easy to follow, which makes it perfect for children. The story moves at just the right speed full of curiosity, teamwork, and excitement. I could picture the red Martian landscape and imagine the siblings traveling through space on their big adventure. It also has a nice balance of science and imagination, so kids might even get interested in space exploration while having fun.

I highly recommend this book to parents, teachers, and anyone who loves sharing meaningful stories with children. It’s a great bedtime read, a fun classroom activity, and an easy way to inspire kids to ask questions and dream big. This book is more than just a space story it’s about kindness, teamwork, and curiosity. I think every child will enjoy this adventure and maybe even start dreaming about their own trip to Mars.

This book is a sweet and imaginative space adventure that mixes mystery, science, and good values in a way young readers will adore. It follows Dovid and his sister Sara, whose curiosity about Mars leads them on a mission to uncover the truth about a strange “Martian donut” spotted by the Perseverance rover. The idea is playful yet intriguing, and it makes for a story that keeps kids engaged from start to finish.

The author has a wonderful way of turning a quirky idea into a fun learning journey. The Martian mystery adds excitement, while the space facts sprinkled throughout gently introduce kids to astronomy and exploration.

What sets this apart is that, alongside the adventure, there are moments that highlight kindness, respect, and good habits. These are woven into the plot naturally, so children pick up on them without feeling like they’re being taught a lesson.

My favorite part is how the story sparks curiosity. The sibling teamwork, problem-solving, and sense of wonder about the unknown can inspire kids to ask questions and imagine their own adventures.

The writing is light, engaging, and perfectly suited for younger readers, making it a great bedtime story or classroom read-aloud. It’s also unique enough to stand out among typical children’s books.

In conclusion, it’s a fun, wholesome story that entertains while encouraging learning and good values. A great pick for little space enthusiasts or any child with a big imagination.

Review —Dovid and Sara: Searching for Martian Donuts by Yerachmiel b altman

Rating:5/5

Review:

👉Dovid and Sara: Searching for Martian Donuts by Yerachmiel B. Altman is a delightful and imaginative children’s book that perfectly blends the wonder of space exploration with the warmth of kindness, sharing, and good manners.

👉The story follows siblings Dovid and Sara, who learn about an extraordinary discovery — NASA’s Perseverance Rover has found what looks like a donut on the surface of Mars. No scientist, rover, or satellite has seen anything like it before, and the origins of the mysterious Martian pastry remain a puzzle. The curiosity of these young adventurers is instantly piqued. Determined to uncover the truth, they make an ambitious decision: they will travel to Mars themselves in search of these donuts.

👉What makes this story so endearing is not just the adventure itself, but the thoughtful values woven into the plot. Before embarking on their interplanetary journey, Dovid and Sara show responsibility by asking permission from their parents. They demonstrate empathy and thoughtfulness by deciding to bring cookies as a gift for whoever might be making the donuts. This subtle inclusion of kindness, respect, and generosity elevates the story beyond a simple space fantasy — it becomes a lesson in how we treat others, no matter where they come from (or which planet they live on!).

👉The book’s charm lies in its lighthearted, playful tone. Young readers will be captivated by the idea of kids traveling to Mars to search for delicious treats, while parents will appreciate how the story introduces science-related themes like space travel, rovers, and the mysteries of the cosmos in a fun, accessible way. It sparks imagination while quietly nurturing curiosity about real-world astronomy.

👉The narrative’s pace is perfect for children, offering just the right balance between excitement and gentle teaching moments. The Martian setting adds a sense of wonder and creativity, making the story feel magical while still grounded in a real scientific backdrop — the actual photo taken by Perseverance that inspired the tale.

Happy reading 😁
