With a name like Melissa Whitney she had two choices become a Real Housewife or a romance author. Sorry Andy Cohen, she's chose romance!

A Jane Austen fangirl, Melissa hails from Western New York, but currently lives in Southern California with her husband and rescue pugs. When she's not brewing the perfect cup of tea, hunting for a delicious pastry, or traveling with her husband, she's writing swoony and steamy romance novels.

Melissa explores themes of disability, mental health, trauma, grief/loss, and family in her emotionally heartfelt and comedic stories. She often says, "Life isn't a romcom nor a high drama. It's somewhere in-between and so are my stories." As a legally blind woman and trauma survivor, Melissa taps into her own lived experience and her masters in social work to craft thoughtful/sensitive stories that delve into deeper themes, while still offering the swoon, steam, and humor that make us fall in love with a good romance.

Nora doesn’t believe in ghosts or love.

Gus is a hottie hosting Haunted Hideaway.

Will these opposites find what they are looking for at the Putnam House?

This was a great book filled with heart, banter and the afterlife! I was really intrigued and held captive as the story and internal tv series progressed! I liked that the story tackled the undertones of grief and mixed in the black cat/golden retriever romantic vibes with a dash of the paranormal; it all worked really well together.

I felt a connection to the brothers as the team traveled from locations and Nora worked to truly find her place.

Thank you to author, Melissa Whitney, and Happily Booked PR for the opportunity to read this book. I am leaving my review voluntarily.

This was a cosy read.
Nora is a sceptic producer of a paranormal TV show, and Gus is one of the presenters.
They are drawn to each other immediately, but it takes a while for anything to happen.
Nora has trauma in her past, which makes her keep everyone at arms length.
There's plenty of banter, and the side characters are great. Full of personality, and they really add to the story.

I fell in love with August and Nora from the moment they met and loved watching them fall in love with each other. August is golden retriever energy personified and I’m here for it. Nora is as black cat as they come in the beginning but you can’t help but love her. You get the feeling immediately the black cat of it all is more self preservation. There’s definitely that fun banter between them and you see the sparks fly even though they try to fight it and it’s so cute.

There is so much representation in this amazing book it’s heartwarming. LGBTQIA+, grief, anxiety, disability, and nerdy hot professor energy. Ok, the last one isn’t really representative but it’s definitely something we get with Derrick. Melissa wrote these characters so beautifully and maneuvered through some heavy topics with grace. Nora is the best therapized anxiety representation I’ve ever read. The tools she uses to combat her anxiety are the same ones most people who have had any therapy at all use. The accuracy is spot on.

The families, friends, and ghosts in this book bring so much heart into the story. Nora’s grandfather has such a huge influence on her life and their relationship is perfection. August’s parents are such a fun and loving addition. The ghosts had me laughing and sobbing over and over and I loved it! I want to know all of these people!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

Move over grumpy/sunshine, and welcome, skeptic/believer to the romance trope universe. Nora Scott is a producer for the Destination Network who believes both love and the paranormal are figments of the imagination. August Chandler is a ghost chaser and the host of Haunted Hideaway. When they are teamed up to produce a show featuring long believed haunted Putnam House, it’s an unlikely pairing that produces more than compelling tv.

Melissa Whitney has a talent for crafting stories that sizzle off the page and this is no exception. The banter is sharp and the chemistry scorching. Where she really shines, however, is in her ability to sensitively and honestly highlight mental health representation. Trauma, anxiety, and the challenging path to healing are at the forefront of this novel, but not at the expense of humor and romance—and a touch of the paranormal

Thank you to the author and Happily Booked PR for the gifted copy. All opinions are my own.

This is my second book that I’ve had the opportunity to read and review for Melissa Whitney. While At First Smile caught my attention by being a hockey romance, Happy Ever Afterlife caught my attention by being this opposites-attract romance sprinkled with a very fun paranormal element!

Nora Scott doesn’t believe in ghosts—or love. Her latest assignment at the haunted Putman House, however, introduces her to August Chandler, the charismatic host of Haunted Hideaway. August is determined to prove both ghosts and love exist, especially to the skeptical Nora. As they investigate the Putman House and discover the tragic tale of a feuding ghostly couple, Nora and August shift from ghost-hunting to matchmaking. In the process, sparks fly between them, leading Nora to reconsider her views on love.

This was honestly such a good, light read for me because it had a lot of things I genuinely enjoy in a book! I’m so happy I had the opportunity to read this!

A cozy paranormal romance between a ghost hunter and the skeptic producer of his show. Gus and his brother have a ghost hunting show and Nora is one of their producers. She's skeptical of ghosts, so she helped make the show more about the location and local people and places. Gus and Nora are drawn to each other but have never acted on it. They grow closer during a film shoot at a haunted house in the brother's hometown. Will Gus ever get Nora to believe in ghosts?

I have read several Melissa Whitney books, and she never fails to entertain.

What I love about Melissa Whitney’s books is the worlds she creates and the amazing characters she features. Her books are always sweet, cozy, filled with great banter, unputdownable, and full of great main & side characters. I knew 𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 would be a good read and I was not disappointed.

Nora Scott is a sceptic. She doesn’t really believe in ghosts, but she got a job as a field producer on a ghost show to advance in the industry and get to her dream job. But on day one, while heading to interview for the job, she meets August Chandler…and they get stuck in an elevator. Lol. That was such a meet cute. Though she gets the job, Nora tells herself that this is just a job, not a place to make friends, or fall in love with the man she met in the elevator, who also happens to be her boss. But August is not making it easy for Nora. With his caring ways, his sunshine demeanor, and his ability to push against the concrete walls she has created around herself, Nora is in for a fight…a fight to not fall in love with her boss!

With the loss of her parents at a young age, and then the loss of her grandfather who raised her, Nora has always been careful not to let others get too close. In her grief, she erected impenetrable walls around herself for fear that letting others in would mean that they could one day leave her. This story is not only about Nora dealing with loss & grief, but also how those around her, especially August, provides her the space, safety, and security to do so. It was great to see how August’s care for Nora and his patience with her, helped Nora learn that its ok to let down your guard and allow others to be there for you. Sometimes, we are afraid to be vulnerable with others for fear that one day they will no longer be in our lives, but this is not a good way to live, and I was happy to see Nora’s progression and her learning to be vulnerable and let down the walls she had built around her.

The funny banter and the slow progression of Nora and August’s relationship was also beautiful to watch. August is THE GUY! He never let Nora’s grumpy demeanor keep him from his goal of getting what he wanted….her! He was a true golden retriever. I love love and I enjoyed watching Nora and August find their happily ever after! I also liked that we got a bit of spice in this book.

I loved the paranormal/ghosts in the story. Beth and Bill were comedy gold. I loved their funny shenanigans. The other side characters (Derrick & Melody) were also fully developed with their own stories which was a plus. 𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 was a good read, and the overall story was very entertaining.

Melissa Whitney is my new go to when I need a squishy, golden retriever (with a little bit of growl ;)) MMC in my book reading world. She makes the swooniest, most squishable, approachable book boyfriends and if you love that, I highly suggest you check out her back list. August Chandler did not disappoint and while I usually don't connect as well with "black cat type" FMC's, Nora was very relatable and I enjoyed being in her head.

WHAT I LOVED MOST:
- The Chandler Brothers - so adorable and charming. They are loyal to each other and passionate about their craft and it made the book that much more enjoyable.

- The Paranormal - I am not a huge paranormal person... I have a select few authors I trust when I crave something outside the norm, and now.... Melissa Whitney is one of them. The paranormal aspects were embedded so naturally that it didn't pull me out of the romance part of the story and the paranormal characters had their own beautiful stories too! It was done so well.

- The side characters - I immediately got in Melissa Whitney's DMs and begged her to keep writing in this world. There were so many interesting characters to connect with.

- Mental Health Rep - Nora's anxiety and trauma responses were written in a way that felt natural, and not sensationalized. Melissa Whitney always does representation thoughtfully and she stayed true to Nora's character without making her "just another woman with anxiety."

FAVORITE QUOTES:
- "Remaining where she stood kept her ground but allowed his scent to have its way with her senses like a sneaky cat burglar. What it stole, she had no idea, but August’s aroma left her wanting as if something was missing."

- "'I’d like to share more, and I’d like to be someone you can share things with.' 'Like your coat?' She slipped it off, handing it to him. 'To start.'"

- "Sometimes she’d leave drained like an oversqueezed orange. Other times she’d leave as light as the Santa Ana breeze."

I 100000% recommend this book, especially if you're not super committed to a paranormal romance. It's a great balance and not jarring for those who like to keep their love stories rooted in reality.

Every time I read another Melissa Whitney book I fall more and more in love with her writing, her voice, and her ability to provide so much representation into her stories. Even more so, the representation isn’t forced, but organically that truly fits into her story as a whole. She always writes easy to love characters whose journey you want to be a part of and root for the entire time.
Along with beautiful representation throughout this story, Melissa always writes heavy topics with grace and tact. It is evident she spends time researching each of these topics before writing them. It is due to this tactic the topics may be heavy, but they flow naturally and our characters navigate them with accuracy and poise. And it makes our beloved characters even more relatable and real.

Nora black cat personality, as you read more about her, seems to be a coping mechanism, set in place to keep her protected and guarded. As I read about Nora her battle with anxiety hit home and I could easily see myself in her character. The heartache that she is working on healing brings such a warmth to the story as well.

August was an engaging MMC who exuded golden retriever energy. He was so smitten with Nora, despite her being closed off. He is beyond patient with her as he slowly encouraged her out of her shell. Due to his own trauma, he is able to connect with Nora on a level she’s never felt from anyone else. He accepts her for her, nothing more, nothing less.

Beyond our two MCs, the side characters bring heart and round out this story perfectly. There are a few things that I can’t help but think of as a spin off or a second book turning this into a series, but even so the story ended with love and healing. The paranormal elements of this story were lighthearted and fun to read. If you are looking for a cozy romance with paranormal elements; Melissa Whitney delivers a book that is a must read!

As always, review any author notes before reading.

Happily Ever Afterlife by Melissa Whitney is the kind of paranormal romance that lingers in your mind long after the final page. The story follows Nora Scott, a sharp and determined field producer for the Destinations Networks hit ghost-hunting show, and has no patience for: Her boss, August Chandler, is golden retriever energy personified and the show's enigmatic and driven lead investigator, a man who has spent his life immersed in the world of the dead. When tragedy strikes and August becomes the very thing he's spent years pursuing, Nora is forced to confront her feelings for him and be forced to believe in the very thing she has spent her entire career not beliveing while unraveling the mystery of his unfinished business.
The chemistry between Nora and August is electric. Their dynamic before August's death is filled with tension and unspoken emotion, but it's what happens after that truly sets this story apart. Melissa Whitney writes their posthumous connection with such tenderness and intensity that you can feel every heartbeat, even when one of them no longer has one.
What makes this novel shine is the way it blends the supernatural with deep emotional truth. It explores grief, love, and the idea that some connections are too powerful to be broken. Nora is a fiercely relatable heroine, balancing skepticism and longing, while August is both haunting and heartbreakingly human. I adored the representation in this story that covers LGBTQIA+, anxiety, disability and grief. I also will stand on that Nora is the best anxiety representation that I have ever read. I suffer with anxiety and ptsd myself and I cried for her because I know how she felt and this just brought me even closer to Nora.
This is not just a ghost story. It is a story about holding on, letting go, and everything in between. This book is for anyone that believes love can withstand anything even death and anyone who loves a romance that is a little eerie, a little tragic, and absolutely unforgettable!

I really loved this book. This book takes us on a healing journey for our FMC [Nora] who lost her parents in a car wreck when she was 6. Nora was flawed but wasnt a bitch, she was a multi layered character who was dealing with her trauma. She was closed off, but being able to see her growth through the story was so refreshing. We find that there is a lot of representation in this book, and its done well in both cases. It touches on the difficulties to navigate in life but also resilience and perseverance.

August is literally the definition of golden retriever vibes. He is sooo down bad for Nora that its almost too much, but its definitely what she needs. The support he gives her and the space to allow her to have her feelings. August has his own trauma, and it helps him to be able to connect to Nora in a way that shows his support without feeling like he knows everything about her specific trauma.

Beth, Bill and Gideon are both comic relief but also a big part of the story. I do hate how the Beth & Bill storyline doesnt really feel resolved for me, but I kind of understand why it was written that way. Overall I really loved this book, and felt the tropes were accurate to the story.

This was a first paranormal type romance I’ve read and I loved it!

Happy Ever Afterlife tells the story of Nora Scott, who doesn’t believe in ghosts, isn’t too big on love and simply wants a dream job as a producer for a travel show. She’s in for a surprise, however, when she accepts a job for of all things, producing a paranormal series with her scrumptious boss, August Chandler.

I adored the tension of attraction between Nora and August. While Nora thinks he’s merely being nice when it comes to going out of his way to get her signature tea or requesting her French fry need; August is casually wooing her in his own way.

I love that the ghosts of Bill and Beth bring out things Nora has pushed down and kept closed in her life; not to mention making Nora a believer that “ghosts are real”.

August Chandler is the biggest golden retriever with a heart so full for those her cares about. He had a great relationship with his older brother Derrick, who I absolutely loved reading, but his love for Nora was perfect. He took his time and went at her pace when it came to being together.

I loved that this book had several different stories from the leading and supporting characters that just connected together.

Overall a very entertaining story. Maybe Melissa will give us another book from these characters down the line.

This was one of the best stories I’ve read in a long time. There is so much going on in this book that it’s hard to include everything. I don’t want to miss anything out.

First off, there’s the main love story featuring August and Nora. August is the co-host of a paranormal show, travelling the world to haunted houses, trying to capture proof of the afterlife on TV. Nora is his field producer and the biggest sceptic when it comes to ghosts. However, the spark is there between them, the banter, the familiarity with each other, and they are totally great together. He helps Nora deal with her past traumas as well as navigating the new weirdness they encounter.

Which leads me to the second love story. The one that started over a century ago between Elizabeth and William Putnam, the resident ghosts of the latest Haunted House to feature in August’s TV show. Elizabeth died in the house, pushed down the stairs by an unknown party, but her husband William was hanged for the crime. They have been bickering and arguing and haunting the house ever since, along with their faithful butler Gideon, who also died in the house a few years after they did.

So two love stories (3 if you count August’s brother Derrick and the house’s owner Melody also flirting up a storm) plus the mystery of who actually killed Elizabeth and setting the ghosts to rest, make this a real pageturner and so much fun and romance, it will haunt my dreams for a while.

A story jam packed with heart!

A beautiful story of grief, love, and support, Nora has gone through so much and has only ever carried it with herself. This book is her journey of opening up to others, learning new things about herself, and learning more about her grief.

This book is single POV, but we are blessed with a very golden retriever MMC with August and we never have to wonder what he is feeling because he tells us (or his eyes do).

While there are plenty of heavy topics covered here, they are written and delivered with such heart and understanding. I found myself crying and grieving right along with these characters. And don't get me wrong, there is plenty of banter and humor sprinkled throughout!

I love how Melissa Whitney writes her characters, especially her MCs and this story was no exception.

This was such a great read. Melissa Whitney always writes with such passion and conviction, I can't help but be sucked into every world she creates. Not only that, but she stays true to who she is and sprinkles little Easter eggs throughout her books.

💬 Such a cute story! It's sweet, heartfelt and emotional.

August is adorable and oh so swoony, although I would categorize him as more of a cinnamon roll than a golden retriever. He's not as silly/goofy/outgoing I expected from the author's note, but he was still a great character. I also wish there he had a little bit more character development/history.

And Nora 💜 I just loved her. My heart kept breaking over everything she endured in the past and it's effect on her life. I'm so happy she was able to start healing/working through all that, and found her HEA even after swearing off love.

And really, the whole story itself was really enjoyable, with a great cast of characters. (Keeping it vague to avoid spoilers) I especially loved the little side romance between Derrick and Melody, as well as the ghost therapy sessions 😂 My only complaint is I wish there had been more resolution for the ghosts, even though it was explained.

I didn’t know I needed a paranormal romance with Hozier vibes until this book came alongand now I’m obsessed. Happy Ever Afterlife is heart-melting, spooky-sweet goodness with all the feels. August (sweet, golden retriever type) and Nora (grumpy, black cat energy) are total opposites, but the sparks? Instant. Their banter is everything, and watching their connection deepen had me fully invested.

This story balances swoony romance, grief, and growth so well. The ghostly side plot adds a really fun, emotional twist (yes, I teared up over a ghost), and the characters’ journeys—especially Nora’s mental health arc—are super relatable. The rep in this book is beautifully done too, including own-voice disability rep for a secondary character that really stood out.

If you’re into workplace romances with meddling ghosts, emotional depth, and a main couple you can’t help but root for add this one to your TBR.

This cozy paranormal romance was such a fun and heartwarming read, with just the right touch of spice! I really enjoyed the unique genre mashup and the overall premise.

Nora, our FMC, starts off guarded and closed off, and as the story unfolds, you begin to understand why. The depiction of her anxiety was so well done, thoughtful, realistic, and written with real sensitivity. As someone who’s seen a loved one go through similar struggles, it felt authentic and deeply appreciated.

And August… oh my heart. He’s the sweetest little golden retriever of a man! 🥹 I loved how he and Nora built a genuine, heartfelt connection that truly shone through the writing.

My only wish? A bit more of the paranormal! The romance was beautifully front and center, but I would’ve loved more time with the hilarious metal ghost and a fuller wrap-up of some of those supernatural threads.

Overall, this was a warm, quirky, and emotional read that I’d definitely recommend, especially if you love a romance with depth and a hint of the otherworldly.

This was adorable, fun and little spooky. 👻 (Oh, I almost forgot it's pretty damn steamy too.)

We follow certified skeptic Nora who somehow ended up as a field producer on a ghost hunting show. The story starts when Nora has been with this crew and it's hottie hosts for some time now. We get to know her through her inner dialogue and interactions with those around her. Melissa Whitney did a fantastic job of writing Nora as character who has many sides to her and feels real.
Nora has painfully obvious chemistry with one of the hosts, August. I wanted to scream "Kiss already!" at them from their first conversation. Their banter and easy familiarity with each other had me kicking my feet.
We get some mystery and a whole other plot line involving real life ghosts. I don't want to say too much on that for fear of accidentally tossing out spoilers, but I was invested!

Definitely check this one out if you were ever a fan of ghost hunting shows or just love some tension and adorableness in a romance.

Everyone calls him Gus, but not Nora. She calls him by his given name, and he likes it. When he first met her in the elevator before her interview for his show, he was smitten. But the longer he knows her, the more he falls for her. When she tells him, there's no such things as ghosts (the thing that the show follows and searches for) he finds it endearing and vows to prove her wrong.

Nora was sure the smug guy from the elevator was vying for her potential position, but lo and behold he's not a candidate for hire, he's one of the Chandler brothers and her potential boss. And the longer she is around him, the more she falls for him. Did he just tell him there's no such things as ghosts? As long as she can prove him wrong she gets a free drink drink out of the bargain.

This adorable rom com shows what true talent and imagination can do for a book. Melissa Whitney is a master when it comes to witty banter and a steamy scene. (Wait until you see what happens with Derrick! Mwah ha ha! Not so button up now, are you?)

I'd like to thank the author, and Happily Booked PR for the opportunity to read this book.

Melissa's books are fast becoming an auto-read for me!

This is an incredibly heartwarming and down to Earth story of Nora (a career driven lady who is all alone in life) and August (the laid-back boss!)

Nora is such a lovely character, and I can absolutely relate to her. It's just a shame that life dealt her with such a rubbish set of cards, but that all changes when she meets August who is the boss of a ghost hunting travel show, and interviews for a Producer Role.

The chemistry from day one was there between these two, and it was funny watching it increase throughout the book until both parties (mainly Nora) admit they like each other.

Of course, can August change 'the sceptic' Nora's mind about ghosts???

With older characters and new alike, this is the perfect book to delete into relationships, loss and of course whether there is indeed an Afterlife...

Another fantastic book from Melissa! ❤️

Happy Ever Afterlife is a pretty good read! I honestly wasn't sure how this story would be. I thought it could be cheesy or super dramatic. This isn't that, it has a great storyline, the characters and their stories are well written. It's a cute story about Nora who is a producer for a ghost hunter show with two good looking brothers. The only problem is she doesn't believe in ghosts, and her dream job is working as a producer on a travel TV show. She is also single, and doesn't really care to find someone, and has an amazing BFF. Will Nora ever find love, catch her big break or bump into a ghost? Guess you better read to find out!

Melissa has a beautiful way of writing about important representations of disabilities and mental health. And this book was just the same, very well written.

Nora has major black cat energy, but it’s more because it’s how she deals and it helps keep her guarded. She is a producer for a ghost hunting show, but she is not convinced that ghosts are real.

Gus is a total golden retriever. He and his brother are cohosts for a ghost hunting show. They are determined to prove to Nora that ghosts are real. He is smitten with Nora, but knows she needs him to be patient because she is still healing from some things and he doesn’t mind at all.

This story brings us a bit of a creepy spooky vibe, with a sweet romance and some emotions to go along with it. The growth shown in the characters is done so well, there is some past trauma and they are forced to cope and deal with it.

I loved this book from start to finish! The characters were all so sweet and I really loved the whole ghost element. The story centers around two brothers who film a show traveling around the country investigating haunted places. Nora is a field producer for the show and falls in love with one of the brothers August. He falls in love back! This all takes place at a house back in the brothers home town where Nora discovers there really is such a thing as ghosts!
The ghosts are the original owners of the house-turned-inn now run by Melody, a descendant of theirs. The ghosts have their own problems and it's up to Nora and August to try and help them. Sounds corny but it was actually very sweet. There is so much more to the story, but I don't want to give it all away. Plus there is just the right amount of spice!
And more than one love story going on. Highly recommend

I had such a great time with this arc!

Happy Ever Afterlife is a black cat x golden retriever, paranormal, workplace romance between Nora and August.

Of course, she’s a black cat FMC, so naturally I related so much to Nora😂. I understood her grief of losing a loved one and how it feels safer to just feel dead inside. I loved that August had the patience and the empathy to give her the time and space she needed to trust him with all of her, and I think so many people will love her story.

August is such a sweetheart. He truly wants Nora to have her best life, I loved how he sees something in her that no one else does and that’s what draws him to her. He wants to do whatever he can to make her smile and feel good. He’s the sweetest book boyfriend, and so many reader will fall in love with him just as much as I did.

Happy Ever Afterlife is now available on KU💗

Thank you to the author for gifting me this book

I LOVED this book!!!

This book is full of romance, laughter, sweetness, sadness and grief.
There is a connection between Nora and August from day one and I fell in love with the characters as they fell in love with each other. Beth had me cracking up, she is quiet the character and was always up to something.

There is depth to so many characters, what they went through in their lives drew me in and I could definitely relate to them in many ways. I love when books make me feel all the emotions, and if you make me tear up well I love it even more and this book did that for me, I felt every emotion!

If you love...well love, you will want to read this book!!

Omigosh, August is such a cinnamon roll! And that meet cute was so good. 😍 But if you are expecting an instalove story, you would be disappointed. Their love story is definitely a slow burn, and I totally enjoyed seeing their love for each other grow stronger over time, and built upon their strong foundation of friendship.

As for the girl (and ghost) talk, it was hilarious due to sassy Beth and Mae. It was nice to see Nora learning to open up her heart to share more with her friends. There were also many learning moments which reminded me to treasure those I love and to enjoy the everyday mundane moments which we always take for granted.

Grab this now if you would love a unique romance story, with some meddling ghosts, and a whole lot of romantic gestures courtesy of August.
