A decent book on the basics… perfect for new parents … derivative of Reggio… would had been nice to see more Reggio activities… did not like reading each phase of development though the eyes of one child … would had prefer a breakdown of each domain instead and then an example…
Claudia Schwarzlmüller's book is a useful parenting guide that makes the chaos of ages 0–6 feel manageable. It encourages you to ask, "Does my child need me to lead or follow in this situation?"
- Its lead-or-follow framework that is actually easy to remember while sleep-deprived. - Feels like practical coaching, not judgment or theory. - Shows when to take charge and when to step back so your kid’s personality can shine. - Nails the daily comedy of life with small children: tantrums, negotiations, and missing pants. - Ideal for new and exhausted parents who want guidance without a 400-page lecture. - Great for anyone stuck between “gentle parenting” and “whatever works today” parenting.
Best ideas: "All feelings are allowed, but not all behaviors."
Cooperative play starts at 2.5-3 years old, which is when empathy kicks in, but may not show up completely until they're 5.
Kids can't lie before 4 years old.
"Say what your hands are doing."
"Humor is the quickest solution to any standoff with your child."
Use stories to distract children who want to embark on a bad idea.
Lead with fun, humor, & levity. Play!
CONCLUSION: Although the book should have been shorter, it's still a fine book.
