Even though this book is nearly 30 years old, a number of the designs still hold up.
There are brief but informative sections on the history of samplers, cross stitch materials, how to get professional results, how to create your own designs (the old-fashioned way, since this was before computers were standard issue for everyone) and how to finish and display your work.
For the dollar I spent on this book, I am thrilled with it!

Overview: The editors of the ‘Better Homes and Gardens’ magazines have offered us a beautiful look into the art of cross-stitch.

Likes: The patterns are easy to read, having been marked out in both symbols and color. And we get some interesting facts about cross-stitch itself.

Dislikes: Sometimes you find the photo of the finished product long before you find the pattern to said project.

Conclusion: This is a terrific addition to a crafter’s library. I’ve got a few projects that I wouldn’t mind trying soon.

The patterns were simple and nice, but similar to every other country-chic pattern you've ever come across. If that's your thing, great. If not, look elsewhere.
