Retirement is supposed to be comfortable. No one expects to be rich beyond their imaginations. They also don't expect to find themselves homeless, food deprived, and without the ability to get medication or healthcare. For one group of seniors, they're about to hit a lucky jackpot. On the verge of being charged with shoplifting, Annie happens to meet two of the nicest 'young' men she's ever seen. Promising to help her and her situation, they rescue her friends and listen to their story.
For the men of the Gray Wolf team, this hits very close to home. All around the same ages of these people, they recognize how very fortunate they have been. They also recognize that someone is cheating seniors out of their homes, land, and much more. Worse, it might just go all the way to the top.
The crew will need help from two old friends who bring back memories for everyone.

This one almost feels like there are 2 different books in one. There is a common thread that connect the two stories, but they are so different. At the start, we have some golden oldies, that have been taken advantage of and are at their wits end. Making drastic choices in hopes it will save them, only to be shown things are now worse than ever. Luckily, one of them is seen by our guys from Gray Wolf and there things take a huge change for the better for them. Their immediate needs are met, then once they are safe, the whole crew steps in to see what can be done to help them. As they work on this, they discover this bigger plot that really pisses them off.
This takes us to the second part of the book, where everyone works to take this down, despite being told to step away. Now our guys at Belle Fleur never step away from what they know is right and this time is no different. It was fun to see them take down who they did, to see them rip into these people who should have known better and to see that maybe their paths need to start down a new road. This last part has been coming for a while now, but it will be interesting to see what that means for the group at large due to the history so many of them have. I also am hoping we get to see the powers that be (they are stepping away from) pitch a fit as they start to live the consequences of actions they have taken.
For the first time in a while, this book is character driven without any sex in the mix. I enjoyed the way the story unfolded one step at a time. Mary Kennedy shined a light on things that are happening to vulnerable people in our country today and how it is happening. This book struck a cord in me that has been missing for quite a bit, and I am delighted it's back. I am reminded of what made me a fan years ago.
I chose this rating because was a really great book. This was a book for the generations to come. Mama Irene is a force to be wrecken with. I love that little old lady. In this book there was protection, compassion, kindness, and being there for your people. When it came to there families they were all in as it should be. Really great read! I recommend this book to all mysterious lovers.
Mary Kennedy has a way with words and great storytelling skills. I'm not going to say imagination because I'm afraid there is probably more truth to her books than I want to know. But they are very enjoyable.
Mary Kennedy writes about subjects that are happening every day. When you become old you are forgotten, taken advantage of and barely at times surviving on a small pension. This story was so touching and brought tears to my eyes
Absolutely loved this book! Matthew and Irene kicking butt and taking names cracked me.up. The story is fun filled and active, it never slowed down! I sat and read it without taking a break.
