He says she’s here to help. But does she want me gone?

After my beautiful daughter Annabelle died in a tragic accident, I thought I would never recover. With my world in pieces, my husband Matthew did what he could to support me and our son, Noah. He hired a nanny, Reka, to help us at home, to be the mother for Noah that I couldn’t be. She cares for him like he’s her own.

But recently, I’ve seen her comforting someone else. My husband. They think I don’t see what they’re doing. But I do.

At first it was stolen glances and whispered conversations. Soon I understand what is really happening. I’m being replaced.

I’ll do anything to keep my son with me. But as the tensions between Matthew and Reka rise, I realise that I’m caught in a deadly trap. And one of us won’t make it out alive.

A totally addictive, page-turning psychological thriller that will keep you totally hooked. Perfect for fans of The Wife Between Us, The Girl on the Train and anything by Shari Lapena.

Suzanne isn’t doing very well. A year ago, her infant daughter died in a horrible accident, and now she’s struggling to take care of herself, her husband Matthew, and their four-year-old son, Noah. She had postpartum depression after having Annabelle, and after the child’s death, she developed a whole new set of mental issues. Being depressed, anxious, hallucinating and possibly psychotic made her unable to function, so her husband hired Reka, a young woman from Hungary, to help out around the house.

Reka has only been at their house for a few months when Suzanne starts to suspect that the woman they hired has ulterior motives. There was a long, blonde hair on Matthew’s side of the bed - how did it get there? Matthew and Reka are always whispering to each other - what are they being so secretive about? Noah won’t speak to his mother and is in his own world now that his sister is gone, but he shows some emotion when around Reka - why won’t he open up to his mom?

This is your basic “is the nanny sleeping with the husband” thriller, with a couple of twists. Suzanne is such an unreliable character because of the mental health issues and all the drugs her friend/therapist Jess has her on (and don’t think Jess hasn’t noticed that they seem to be disappearing quickly). I wish her work as a writer was more of a focus, as well as her relationship with her husband. Noah was a compelling character; I’d also have liked to hear his side of things. This could have been a bit longer without losing its page turner qualities, but it was still an engrossing story that was easy to read in one sitting. 3.5 stars, rounded up!

(Thank you to Bookouture for inviting me on this book tour! “The Woman In Our Marriage” is set to be released on May 16, 2025.)

“A house cursed with tragedy. A family plagued by loss. Surely lightening doesn’t strike in the same place twice.”

Suzanna is convinced her husband is having an affair with the nanny he hired to help their family. She finds a long blond hair matching the nanny’s description on her pillowcase and from there begins to convince herself that all her suspicions are true.

But Suzanna is struggling. Struggling to adapt to life following the loss of her baby, which she blames herself for. Struggling with her 4 year old child Noah who won’t speak to her. Struggling with the breakdown of her marriage.

After a turbulent time with the new nanny, Reka, Suzanna feels that she is trying to take not only her husband but also her son. However, when Noah has a freak accident in the garden under Reka’s watch she is nowhere to be found. Where has the nanny gone?

I feel like every character in this book is an unreliable narrator and I absolutely love it! The mystery, suspense and anticipation were being built right from the off and as the novel twists and turns each character becomes more suspicious. The short chapters, from different characters perspectives, really keeps the story moving and just when you think you have the story worked out, then comes the twist.

My only criticism, which isn’t even a criticism, was that this book just felt very short. I read this in under 24 hours which is testament to the story however I felt like it needed to keep going. I just enjoyed it that much! This really was one that I didn’t want to put down and coming from someone that really struggles reading electronically I think that says a lot about the book.

When I saw this was perfect for fans of Shari Lapena I knew this would be the perfect read for me.

4/5⭐️

Tw - child/infant death was a heavy theme throughout this book alongside postnatal depression/psychosis

I'm always happy when a book doesn't do exactly what I expect it to.

When the book began, I loathed our MC. While I never really warmed to her, I'm happy to say that the author made things definitely more interesting in regard to her personality, and I eventually found her engaging enough that I was concerned about her.

I will say that the *who* behind everything was not a surprise. It is exactly who you expect it to be.

All in all, an entertaining beach read.

Big thanks to Bookouture for a copy on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
The Woman In Our Marriage is an ok read.
A thriller with a little tension and a pace that just goes along moderately.
Suzanna is a mess after losing her baby daughter.
Her husband Matthew worries about her and her small son Noah keeps his distance.
Enter Reka, a nanny hired to help.
Her best friend and therapist Jess is on hand to assist with all the problems.
Then Suzanna sees Reka becoming close to Matthew.
Soon there’s trust issues, secrets and hidden feelings until the ultimate betrayal and death.
There’s no surprises here.
It’s a little predictable, the premise has been used many times before and the twist is meh.
I did find it easy to guess.
It’s a quick, easy read at just over 200 pages.
This author has been known to be hit or miss with me.

After the tragic loss of her daughter Annabelle, she thought her family would never recover. Broken by grief, she leans on her husband, Matthew, and the nanny he hires—Reka—to help care for their young son, Noah. At first, Reka seems like a blessing. Loving, attentive, the perfect stand-in for a mother who can barely function.

Jess is psychotic. How evil do you have to be to ruin a marriage and severely traumatize your best friend just because you were jealous? She practically killed Suzanne’s baby, which led to depression and medication, and then she went after Suzanne’s husband. Now it is all too late because Suzanne has murdered the nanny. That is heartbreaking. The nanny had suspicions and good intentions, but Suzanne was too out of it to see it. Very, very sad.

─── .¸✿¸.•❤•.❀• OVERALL¸•❀.•❤•.¸✿¸.⋆ ───

It is even more sickening that Jess went to such great lengths to ruin her best friend’s life while still pretending to be there for her and acting concerned. That level of manipulation is beyond evil.

Suzanna’s fear of losing her son Noah is understandable, especially after the loss of her infant daughter Annabelle. To cope with the grief, her husband Matthew has hired a nanny named Reka to help with Noah. Reka moves into their home.

However, there’s a disconnect between Suzanna and Noah, and she soon starts to feel threatened by the possible relationship between Matthew and Reka. Is her suspicion valid, or is it just her imagination?

When the unthinkable happens, Suzanna’s world crumbles. The repercussions of her actions could cost her everything, but the story takes a shocking twist that nearly broke my heart.

Despite the title hinting at a certain theme, this book delves deeply into Suzanna’s emotional struggles. She grapples with the loss of Annabelle, post-partum depression, and ongoing emotional issues. Victoria Jenkins’s writing is exceptional, and I eagerly anticipate her next book.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

After the devastating loss of her daughter Susanna is barely surviving—emotionally fractured, consumed by grief, and struggling to be present for her young son. When her husband hires a caregiver to step in where she feels she can’t, the arrangement initially seems like a lifeline. But what begins as help quickly twists into something far more unsettling.

The story masterfully explores grief, jealousy, and the quiet terror of watching your life slip out of your hands. The tension builds slowly and deliberately, fueled by stolen glances, whispered conversations, and the gnawing sense that something is deeply wrong. Suzanna's voice is raw and unreliable in the most compelling way—you feel her desperation, her fear, and her fierce determination to protect her child at all costs.

As the emotional stakes rise, so does the danger. The novel keeps you guessing, blurring the line between paranoia and reality, and leading to a haunting conclusion that lingers long after the final page.

Dark, atmospheric, and emotionally charged, this is a gripping read for fans of domestic suspense and psychological thrillers. If you enjoy stories about obsession, betrayal, and the terrifying lengths a mother will go to for her child, this book is not to be missed.

Suzanna’s husband hires Reka to help support her and their child after tragic events lead her to suffering from PTSD. Suzanna soon starts to suspect that her husband is having an affair with Reka and she is being replaced. Does Reka have ulterior motives?

This sounded like it would be a fun read and I enjoyed the premise. The story had a slow start and remained a slow burn throughout the majority of the story. This ended up being an emotional read and a well written psychological thriller with plenty of twists and turns. I found that even though this was a good book I struggled to stay invested in the story, most likely due to the pacing. Saying that I can see plenty of readers who enjoy slow burn twisty, compelling thrillers really enjoying this one. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this copy in return for an honest review.

Suzanna, Matthew and Noah went through something awful with the death of baby Annabelle. It was a true accident that the entire family had to endure. To get through, they enlisted live-in help to keep the home running and assist in the care of Noah. It was then that Jess became obsessively jealous and sunk her teeth into the family when they were at their lowest. She preyed on the live-in helper, Reka, and killed her because she knew too much. Jess was awful, manipulative and messed up. I was happy she got locked up!! Victoria Jenkins is hit-or-miss for me. This book was right in the middle at 3 stars.

"He says she's here to help. But does she want me gone?"

The Woman in Our Marriage by Victoria Jenkins is full of suspense and perfect for fans of slow burn, compelling and twisty domestic thrillers!

Suzanne is struggling after the tragic loss of her infant daughter. Having a 4 year old son already, Suzanne is finding it difficult to do much of anything because she is weighted down with grief. When her husband Matthew hires Reka, a live in nanny, she begins to help out with their son Noah while Suzanne gets help from her therapist and her friend. But soon, Suzanne starts to see that Matthew and Reka are awfully close for an employer/employee relationship. It seems like Reka is entirely too comfortable in Suzanne's house and around her husband and son. How far will Reka go to be the next woman of the house?

From the prologue I was highly invested in this story! Told in multiple POVs, we get to see the different perspectives of each character. This book does deal with some sensitive subjects including postpartum depression and also infant loss so definitely be aware before reading! The way Jenkins writes these subjects are real, raw, and emotional but also delicately written given the high emotions. I felt like the twists were well placed and written and the ending threw me into a completely different direction! Overall I recommend this book for fans of Shari Lapena and Lisa Jewell and also for lovers of domestic thrillers with emotion!

Thank you to NetGalley, Victoria Jenkins, and Bookouture for this ARC!! Publication date is May 16th 2025.

Suzanne is struggling with the loss of her infant daughter so her and her husband, Matthew, hire a live-in nanny to assist with their 4 year old son, Noah. But it seems the new nanny may be getting too close with Matthew…and may want to get Suzanne out of the way?

I really wanted to this story more than I actually did in the end. The prologue grabbed my interest and there were twists and turns that make this a solid read.

However, the reveal of the villain was very anti-climactic for me. I didn’t see it coming exactly but at the same time I was like, “oh okay so it was actually ……” The ending was just very abrupt.

The story is told from multiple POVs and each chapter isn’t always labeled with whose head we are in. This can lead to a bit of confusion at times. I do feel we got a good look into Suzanne’s mind and the postpartum depression-turned-infant-loss that she experienced. I do wish there had been more from Noah. He was an important character but there wasn’t much dialogue to really explain his take on things.

Overall, I do recommend this book and will be checking out other stories from this author.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with an advanced review copy.

After the devastating loss of Suzanna’s daughter Annabelle in a tragic accident, she never thought she’d recover. Grief-stricken and barely coping, her husband Matthew tried to keep their lives from falling apart — for her sake and for their young son, Noah. To help at home, he hired Reka, a young woman who quickly became a mother figure to Noah in all the ways she no longer could be. Reka cares for him deeply — almost too deeply.
But something has shifted. Reka is no longer just helping around the house. She’s grown close to Matthew — too close. At first, it was just passing glances and quiet conversations. Now, it’s clear: she’s being pushed out of her own family.
She’ll do anything to hold onto her son. But as the tension between Matthew and Reka intensifies, she begins to see the truth — she’s not just being replaced. She’s trapped in something far more dangerous. And not everyone will make it out alive.

Just a heads-up before anything else: make sure to check the trigger warnings before starting this book — there are strong themes around child and infant loss, as well as postnatal depression and psychosis. These are heavy topics and they're woven throughout the story.
That said, this book had me hooked from the very beginning. The suspense starts early and keeps building, and with every chapter, you start to question everyone. The short chapters from different characters' points of view keep things moving fast, and honestly, every time I thought I had it figured out — boom, another twist!
What I really loved was how the story explored the emotional and psychological side of the characters. It really digs into how far people will go to protect the ones they love, and it does it in a way that feels intense but believable.
If you're into psychological thrillers or just love a book that keeps you guessing, I'd recommend this one. Just be prepared — it's an emotional ride, but such a good one.

Victoria Jenkins delivers a gripping psychological thriller in The Woman in Our Marriage, exploring the complexities of trust, desire, and deception within a seemingly stable relationship. The story follows Louise, who, feeling disconnected from her husband Marcus, becomes intrigued by Erin, a new acquaintance from her yoga class. Erin introduces Louise to the concept of an open marriage, claiming it revitalized her own relationship. Desperate to salvage her own, Louise convinces Marcus to try it, leading to unforeseen consequences.
Jenkins masterfully builds suspense, with each chapter peeling back layers of secrets and lies. The narrative delves into the emotional turmoil of the characters, making their decisions, however flawed, feel authentic. While some plot developments stretch believability, the overall tension and unexpected twists keep readers engaged.
The novel's strength lies in its exploration of the human psyche and the lengths individuals will go to protect their relationships. Jenkins doesn't shy away from portraying the messiness of love and the gray areas of morality. The pacing is brisk, and the writing is sharp, making it a compelling read for fans of domestic thrillers.
In conclusion, The Woman in Our Marriage is a thought-provoking and suspenseful novel that examines the fragility of trust and the consequences of unconventional choices. It's a must-read for those who enjoy stories that delve into the darker aspects of relationships.

When you lose a child as a parent, it's as if the earth has stopped turning. Of course, it's a huge blow for both parents, but perhaps it's just a little different for a mother. After all, she carried the child for nine months, and that creates a special bond. It's also often the case that fathers throw themselves into work, while for mothers, that’s usually not as straightforward.

In this story, it's impossible for Suzanna to continue her usual activities as a mother or as a wife, and that’s why her husband Matthew decides to hire a nanny to make things a little easier for her. But sometimes, even the best-intentioned plans can end in tragedy.

It's clear how much Suzanna is suffering from the loss, and the more she tries to work on feeling better, the worse she ends up feeling. Gradually, she begins to lose the ability to distinguish reality from imagination...

You also get a sense of distrust toward the nanny. She’s almost too good to be true. Can she be trusted, or is she playing a dirty game?

And then there’s Matthew. Is he real, or is he fake?

This book has a great mix of emotion and suspense. The reveal of the mystery was surprising to me because I was on a completely different track.

I found the setting interesting, and the characters had good depth.
I really enjoyed this book. 5 stars

The Woman In Our Marriage by Victoria Jenkins is a deep and emotional psychological suspense story. Full of dark characters with deep secrets, it's hard to guess where this is going. I couldn't wait to dive into this and once I did it was so hard to put down.

Reeling from the unimaginable loss of their young daughter, Suzanna and Matthew try to pull themselves together to care for their son Noah. They hire a young nanny, Reka to help Suzanna with Noah. As a result of some heavy duty medications prescribed to her by her therapist and good friend, Jess, Suzanna has a hard time staying focused enough to carry on with daily life. When she suspects Matthew of having an affair with Reka, she really starts to lose touch with reality.

This book is such an emotional roller-coaster. Full of surprises and twists, it is a definite page turner. The pace is brisk, and the chapters are short and easy to read. A longtime fan of Victoria Jenkins, this is one of my favorites. I highly recommend this book to domestic suspense lovers.

Favorite Quotes:

Paranoia is different. It is a slippery, malignant thing– feared by those who know of its presence, an invisible threat to those who don’t.

I don’t remember what happiness sounds or tastes like, or how it feels between my fingers.

‘What if’ has been an enemy of mine for as long as I’m able to remember, standing in doorways to stop me passing, whispering in my ear at night to keep me awake. It has been the sibling I never had, competitive and sneaky, tripping me up then feigning innocence when I fall. Now, it stands here beside me, taunting me with everything that could go wrong.

My Review:

This was a tense and disconcerting read. But I am not a fan of angst, and I didn’t like these people; they were all rather heinous. Nor could I fully forgive them even after the driving force of their problems was revealed. But while I found them to be contemptible creatures who had done inexcusable things to each other and had knowingly neglected their child, I was unreasonably curious to find out what was going to happen next. Victoria Jenkins has penned a compelling tale.

I found this psychological thriller to be a real slow burn - it took a while to get into but definitely worth the wait as this story really packs a punch as it plays out in gloriously twisted splendour!

The story starts with an insight into Suzanna’s failing mental health. We soon learn that Suzanna and husband, Mathew, have tragically lost their infant daughter in an accident in the home. Toddler Noah is so traumatised by this that he rarely speaks. The family have a Hungarian nanny who is central to this story, as is Jess, Suzanna’s best friend and counsellor.

So much happens and the perceptions of different characters make it difficult to know what is real and what is imagined.

Overall a well written and ultimately gripping plot I would happily recommend.

My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an advance copy.

The Woman in Our Marriage is an AMAZING psychological crime thriller!

Please read the trigger warning for this book!!! There are some topics that may be difficult for some readers

"At first, it was stolen glances and whispered conversations. Soon, I understand what is really happening. I’m being replaced."

OMG!!! This book is fantastic! I don't know if I have ever read a prolog that had me so hooked that I knew this was about to be a 5-star read. If you want a book that you won't want to put down, then RUN and add this to your TBR!! This book is filled with twists that have you questing everything, and everyone. There were a few times I assumed I knew what was going on, then bam, another twist. The closer I got to the end, the more it was like oh ok I see what's happening.

BOOKWORMS REVIEW:
This is your typical 'Is the nanny sleeping with the husband' thriller. Following the death of their daughter,Suzanne is struggling. Her mental health has taken a nose dive and to ensure the proper care of their young son Noah,Matthew has hired Hungarian Nanny Reka to step in and help Suzanne. But Suzanne's noticing lots of whispered chats between her and Matthew and even found a long blonde hair on his side of the bed. She's an unreliable character for us which keeps us guessing...does she have just cause to be wary or is it the cocktail of meds for her Anxiety etc. making her see things that aren't there? Is the nanny moving in with ideas of replacing Suzanne? Plenty of hooks to keep you intrigued.

A grieving mother. A loving husband. A live-in nanny to help with their son. There’s nothing that can go wrong with this combination, right? Meet Suzanne, a grieving mother who thinks she may be losing her mind. Her suspicions rise as husband Matthew appears to become closer and closer to Reka, their nanny. And is she a good mother to Noah? She’s been in counseling with her best friend/therapist for a year and she’s not getting any better.

This book is fast-paced and full of all of the suspense and twists and turns you want in a psychological thriller. You can read it in one sitting because it will suck you in!

This is my first Victoria Jenkins book, but I’ve already got my eye on several of her other books. She’s definitely going on my list as a go-to for thrillers!

The woman in our marriage by Victoria Jenkins centers around Suzanne, who's daughter Annabelle died in an accident. Her husband is trying to support her and their son Noah through their grief, so he hired a nanny named Reka. Reka is hired to help at home and be the mother for Noah that Suzanne can't be at the moment. Recently though, Suzanne sees Reka comforting her husband Mathew too. Soon tensions rise between Matthew and Reka and Suzanne and Noah are caught in the middle.

The loss of a child was incredibly heavy theme and its shown well in the way that Suzanne is seen loosing her grip on reality and dealing with Postnatal depression/psychosis. I found this book to be a little predictable and similar to other books I have read. With just over 200 pages, it makes for a light read.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book in exhibition for my honest opinion and review.

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC!

We meet Suzanne and Matthew, trying to cope with the loss of their daughter while at the same time, needing to take care of their son, Noah. Matthew even hires a young woman, Reka, to help them out. Everything could only get better from here, right? Wrong. Because Reka seems to start taking more care of Matthew than his son....

This book was twisty, emotional and very gripping. I was rooting for poor Suzanna, who was struggling with her mental health after everything that has happened. Understandably so. It was a little hard to follow everything that happened with all the people involved, but still very much recommended! 4,5 stars from me for this one!

This book started off slow but built into an emotional roller coaster ride. I could not tell what was going on or who really did it in this one!!

Suzanna and Matthew are suffering from the loss of their infant daughter. Their 4 year old son is so traumatized by the death of his sister that he has withdrawn verbally. Matthew hires a nanny to help out with the house and Noah, due to Suzannas failing mental health. Suzanna has been seeing her therapist, and best friend Jess, to cope with the trauma.

The story goes on to unfold what really happened to the baby and how each person was integrated into the situation. Very well written, complex characters and twists galore!

What I liked most about this book was the way it grabs your attention from the very beginning and holds it until the end. I thought I had figured out the ending, but I was wrong. Certain parts are revealed gradually as you read, and each new revelation leads you to different conclusions.

While reading this book, I felt pity, compassion, sadness, and pain for the main character. At a certain point, I even felt some discomfort and disappointment with their actions, but that was because I didn’t know all the facts yet.

I loved the ending because I wasn’t expecting it at all. That’s what makes a book an excellent psychological thriller, in my opinion.

Suzanne and her husband have suffered such tragedy in their lives having lost a baby girl they do have another child Noah but Suzanne has never been the same since that terrible day, her husband hires a nanny to help as she just can’t cope with daily life anymore.

Her friend Jess is a god send and helps her no end and tells her that she is very suspicious of the relationship between Reka the nanny and her husband and thinks they are having an affair after she finds a blonde hair on her pillow.

There were a lot of twists in this story and you just had to keep reading.

From the very first chapter, this story had me hooked. It follows Suzanna, a woman overwhelmed by grief and unable to carry on with the daily routines of motherhood and marriage. In an effort to ease the burden, her husband Matthew hires a nanny—but what starts as a helpful solution quickly spirals into something much darker. As Suzanna struggles with her loss, her mental state begins to deteriorate. The line between reality and imagination blurs, and she begins to question everyone around her.

This book was a fast-paced, twist-filled roller coaster. The plot is clever, emotional, and full of suspense. Another fantastic psychological thriller from one of my favourite authors.
