The Way of Threadcasting (and Spinning Chaos)

Rate this book
In the City of Cargyll, the Order of Threadcasters holds power over more than just magic—they control time itself. But when Brothers begin vanishing without a trace, the delicate balance begins to crumble. Unbeknownst to the Order, Sadhrin, a ruthless advisor to the Lord of Urwil, has begun abducting threadcasters for her dark and twisted purposes.

Sent to Fujikura to investigate, Brothers Kilie and Kallae find themselves caught in a deadly game, where the line between friend and foe is as thin as a thread. As Kallae struggles with his own magic and motivations, he is forced to face the island’s corrupt empire, a ruthless inquisitor, and his own personal demons. As Fujikura’s secrets unravel, the stakes grow higher and the threads of fate twist tighter.

In a world where magic is a commodity and loyalties are fragile, both the Order and the islanders are on a collision course, and nothing—not even time itself—can stop what’s coming.

The first installment in S.T.White 4 book series, and it's a strong start with European/Japanese epic fantasy.

You follow 3 character, which is separated on 2 different quests, and each of them is crafted very well, and I can't really decide which one if the best.
Most of them are in the present time, but in the first few chapters, you will get to see the first couple of past months before his present events. Which I find very nice to have in the book.

With Akira, I was very aware of how her story was going and her quest.
Kilie and Kallae, i was a bit more unsure since i felt so much was going on, so my slow brain couldn't quite figure out where they were going at times. But hey, it's awesome to feel like that sometimes, I think. Makes it more fun.

One of the things I think S.T. did great was the humor. It's fantastic!
With so many laughable moments through the book, and it feels like she didn't try too hard to either as some books do. The humor is just so great, without being too overdramaticly done. It flows so perfectly, and I had a great time with it.

The start could feel a bit slow at times because i was getting to know the world and the characters' lives and motives. But at one point, it just snapped, and everything just got so awesome. I really liked the magic system, and the side characters are just fantastic. The story itself is pretty easy going with the nice flow and awesome character moments.

Overal, I really liked this one, and I'm defently going to keep on with the series. Can't wait for book 2, which is set to be released sometime at 2026.

Thanks to the author. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

I honestly don't know what went wrong with this one. I was loving it, and then... not.
And it was the strangest thing, because I loved the narrator (it's quite unique, and I loved it, truly), I enjoyed the characters (at least so far) and the story was interesting, but one moment I was invested and the next I wasn't.
I am really sorry, I tried to wait a bit and let some time pass before going back to it, but things didn't change so I decided to just let it go, even if I am sorry

This is a plot driven indie fantasy. The book feels like a set up for a very broad story. There were two main plot lines, I am interested to see if they converge in the next books in the series. The magic feels very tought out and like we only scratched the surface so far. It's interesting in how many different ways the magic is used. The story is Japanese and Europeen inspired. There are a few see fearing chapters I enjoyed.

The characters are not as distinctive as I would like them to be. It took me a few chapters to get into the story, it got easier a few chapters in.

The charm of the story is the narration style, which flows nicely and has a witt to it I enjoyed. It sometimes breaks the fourth wall and comments on itself.

I am interested to see what will happen and how characters are develpoed. Book 2 released in 2026.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book! The magic system is unique and I found the plot to be very adventurous. There are moments when it could have been slow, but then the point of view changes which I found to be refreshing. My favourite chapters came from Akira.

I always love a magical creature, but the Hainu and Tanuki will hold a special place in my heart. They made me laugh a lot and were the perfect addition to this story.

I also really enjoyed the narrative style, it reminds me of Tress of The Emerald Sea and The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi. I am very curious about this world and I look forward to exploring it in the sequels. Thank you to the author for a review copy of this book!

The Way of Threadcasting as a indie fantasy full of unique magic. With European and Japanese influences it makes for an enriched world. I absolutely loved the dialogue, the characters interact so well with great use of humour. The whole book is a joy to read, at times the narration style changes and it breaks the fourth wall, which I found to be very creative. There are three main characters and initially I did not know how they would link, but the plot develops and I liked that I was kept guessing at first. I would have liked the characters to have been more fleshed out as I found it hard to distinguish them, especially when we have similar names used. The plot is epic, with great battle scenes and use of interesting creatures. In terms of the magic system, I cannot wait to read more. Overall an excellent indie adventure fantasy that is a fun read. Thank you to the author for this advanced reader copy. This is a voluntary review of my own thoughts.

In this Indie Fantasy, you follow a cast of characters in a world of magic and corruption. Heavily based on magic and the various ways it could be used or manipulated, in very different ways than your usual fantasy novel.
Overall good read with a unique story and cast of characters. You follow two separate journeys, with some good banter and battles to keep it entertaining. With the plot coming together in a way I wasn’t expecting. The world had a unique feel, pulling from Japanese and European influences. A good start to what seems to be the first addition to a series of books by the author.
Thanks to S.T. White for giving me the opportunity to read this arc.

3.5/5⭐️

I found the writing style different to what Im normally use too, so it took me awhile to get into it, there was some parts that I thought had more description than needed but that might just be me😂i did find that it was still an okay read, I liked the wit and humour the characters show.

In this book there is European/Japanese epic fantasy and you follow the main characters Kilie, Kallae and Akira on their different journeys and see how it all begins to be interconnected.

In the City of Cargyll, The Order of Threadcasters have control over not just magic and time as well. But when brothers from the order mysteriously go missing it’s up to Kilie and Kallie to investigate. However they will not be prepared for the dark secrets and corruption that await them…

The Way of Threadcasting is book 1 of The Tales of Unravelling, and does a fantastic job of setting up for the rest of the series. The book has strong inspiration from Japanese and European fantasy, and with its own unique magic system makes the story not only a familiar and welcome setting for fantasy fans but also makes it stand out as well. The writing of Threadcasting has all the calling cards of a great epic fantasy series, but what made me love the book was its narration style, character arcs and the character banter. Book 2 is set to release sometime in 2026 and it’ll def be on my radar! Thank you to the author for giving me a copy of the book for an honest review!
