Buzz het worstwolfje

Buzzy Snuffelkont de Eerste (of gewoon Buzz) is een worstwolf. Hij is dus een deel worst en een deel wolf.

Buzz komt als een nieuw hondje bij de familie van mama, Leo en Britney wonen. Hij is niet alleen. In zijn vacht woont het muisje Viltje. Viltje is een lief, slim en verstandig muisje.

Voor Buzz en Viltje is het huis helemaal nieuw. Het huis heeft allemaal vreemde en nieuwe geuren, maar ook de mensen die in het huis wonen zijn nieuw voor hen. Buzz en Viltje gaan dus samen op onderzoek uit wat ze te weten kunnen komen over de mensen en wie er nu eigenlijk de leider is in huis.

Buzz gaat proberen met al zijn om de perfecte hond te zijn. Na zijn eerste “observatieronde”, komt hij erachter dat (denkt hij) zich moet gedragen als de dappere wolf die in hem zit. Al gauw komt hij er door wat er gebeurt achter dat dit niet de beste keuze was. Buzz wil geen dappere wolf meer zijn. Daarom besluit hij een nieuwe observatie te doen. Na zijn tweede “observatie” besluit hij meer worst te zijn. Uiteraard loopt dit ook niet zoals het moet gaan. Daarom besluit Buzz te gaan luisteren naar mama. Want als Britney en Leo niet de leider zijn dan moet mama dit wel zijn. Buzz probeert zich precies zo te gedragen als dat hij denkt dat goed is, alleen voelt hij zich daarna best eenzaam. Hij dacht dat hij het goed deed, maar opeens weet Buzz het allemaal niet meer.

Hij zegt zelfs nog tegen Viltje: ‘Jij hebt geprobeerd om me te helpen. Jij zei dat ik mezelf moest zijn’. Teleurgesteld gaat hij in z’n mand liggen, totdat hij allemaal geluiden hoort richting de voordeur… Wat moet Buzz nu doen?

Het boek Buzz het worstwolfje is een grappig boek vol hondenavonturen. Het is ook een boek met een mooie boodschap. Zoals Viltje in het boek zegt: ‘Wees gewoon jezelf’.

In de klas heb ik over dit boek een mooi gesprek kunnen voeren. We hebben het gehad over: Jezelf zijn. Want hoe ben je nou echt als jezelf? Er kwamen waardevolle antwoorden van de kinderen. ‘Als je jezelf bent mag je best grappig zijn, maar als het genoeg is moet je ook stoppen’ zei één van de kinderen. Ik vind het knap hoe kleuters zo mooi kunnen redeneren over zo’n vraag.

I don't think the title of this helps – but when you see what it really means it's an obvious one. Buzz is a dog gifted to a new family by an elderly owner, and happens to be part sausage dog, part wolf. Determined to show his best side to get to stay with the new family – Mum, Leo the eight year old and toddler Britney – he starts by letting the wolf side be prominent, but that doesn't work, so he tries to be more sausage – and that doesn't work either. As they both seem problematic, perhaps he'd better rein both in?

Oddly he does all this with the helping words of his own friendly mouse, not that any of the humans actually realise they've kind of gained two pets in one. So you can see what the book's trying to do – prove the benefit in being naturally yourself regardless – but it's a touch unusual and almost clumsy, like the title. It's certainly helped by the fact the illustrator has a sausage dog in real life, for the art is strongly characterful. But I didn't think the text was clear, logical or grabbing enough to make this a true winner. Three and a half stars.

Great fun. Buzzy wuzzy doodah (Buzz for short) is a part sausage, part wolf dog.
He has a new home as his beloved owner is too old now to look after him. He is very concerned about which human is the pack leader and what sort of dog do they want.
Things go wrong when he is too wolf, and too sausage but when he is super good they leave him. He thinks a new owner will have to come. While waiting he puts all the chocolatey pjs (you'll have to read it) in his bed and curls up.

But the family return and they have something for Buzz...

Fun early chapter book about a part Wolf/part sausage dog who needs a new home after his owner moves to a retirement home. My favourite part was Buzz trying to figure out which human in the new family is the pack leader.
