Well…another stunner. I don’t know how she does it one after the other and they’re never boring, never the same. Always swoony, always funny, always unique. I didn’t know if I’d get on as well with Felicity’s character, but I easily warmed to her (and Ash) and it was so nice to have Izzy back in the story a bit more! I love the women in academia angle, the villain angle…all of it, just utter perfection.

This book is just as good as the other two in the series, and this one is probably the best plotted. All those storylines come together so nicely and cleverly, I am very much in awe.
I adore the themes in this book, especially how Laura Wood recognised how we stand on the shoulders of brave women, who fought for our rights, knowing they wouldn't see the end result. Loved it!!!!

Amazing just like the two before! Felicity was such a great heroine and Ash? Literally swoon worthy! I slurped the audiobook in one day, I just couldn't stop listening. Also am I the only one or is Felicity aka girl on the cover literally Anya Taylor Joy? I can’t shake the resemblance. 😂😂

Ik vond dit derde deel helaas niet zo. Op de een of andere manier voelde ik de tension tussen de hoofdpersonen niet zo, terwijl ik de vorige boeken dat wel veel meer had! Ook vond ik het jammer dat het hele rekenen/kunnen tellen van Felicity niet mega erg naar voren kwam, terwijl daar de focus wel erg op lag in het begin. Ik houd wel echt van het Vogelhuis en alle mensen. Wat een geweldige organisatie.

Seit wann sind toxische Männlichkeit und Frauenfeindlichkeit denn in den Triggerwarnungen enthalten?🤩 I love it🥰🥰 allerdings kamen die erst am Ende des Hörbuchs, also da müssten wir noch mal dran arbeiten😅
Die Story war, wie gewohnt und erwartet, cosy und niedlich. Die anderen Teile haben mir aber besser gefallen.
Hier sind praktischerweise alle sehr reich, das macht die Liebe auch gleich viel süßer und den noch in den Kinderschuhen steckenden Feminismus erstaunlich durchsetzbar.
Insgesamt hat die ganze Handlung wenig Tiefe und ist recht oberflächlich gehalten, von den Charakteren ganz zu schweigen, aber es ist trotzdem unterhaltsam und ganz nett für zwischendurch.

Na het lezen van boek een en twee in deze serie en ze geweldig gevonden te hebben kon ook boek drie ‘A Game of Scandal’ niet ontbreken. Ik durf zelfs te zeggen dat Felicity (mathematisch academisch wonder) & Ash (gokestablishment eigenaar) hun verhaal tot nu toe het beste was! Ik vond de cameo’s van de personages van de vorige boeken ook heel fijn. Het brengt wat de vorige boeken brengen: een feministisch verhaal in een soort cross over tussen Bridgerton & Enola Holmes. Ik ben oprecht grote fan van deze serie en kan niet wachten op boek vier! 🥹

Al in het eerste deel van deze reeks hoopte ik dat Felicity Vane in de schijnwerpers zou komen te staan, en in A Game of Scandal is het dan ook zover. Ze is een heerlijk (hoofd)personage, geknipt ook voor een verhaal als dit: modern, feministisch, een wetenschapster, koppig, intelligent, en ze zegt haar gedacht. En de manier waarop ze dat verwoord, is al net zo heerlijk als de andere personages in de boeken, met Sylla op kop.
Over haar gesproken: Sylla, Izzy en de hele reutemeteut uit de vorige twee verhalen maken ook nu weer hun opwachting, de een heeft al een belangrijkere rol dan de ander. Ik vind die terugkeer altijd wel tof: je moet de oude personages niet missen en je ziet ze van op een afstandje nog wat meer groeien en zich ontwikkelen ook.
Het heeft het maar drie boeken gekost, maar ik heb nu eindelijk een manier gevonden om de schrijfstijl van Laura Wood te omschrijven: met flair. De vocabulaire en manier van spreken van de personages is ontzettend ongedwongen en toch bijzonder rijk. Lang niet elke auteur slaagt erin. Zo nu en dan zitten er echt originele zegswijzen in, ook met dank aan Tessa van Dooren, die deze hele reeks vertaald heeft in het Nederlands. Ik kende haar daarvoor totaal niet, maar ik ben op korte tijd fan van haar geworden. Die naam wil ik wel meer zien staan!
Misschien gaat het verhaal iets te rechttoe naar mijn goesting. Er bestaat nooit enige twijfel over wie het grote kwaad nu is, al blijft wel heel lang de vraag rondzweven waarom en hoe dan. Die antwoorden komen er, helemaal op het einde, maar iets meer mysterie had wel gemogen. Spanning was er in elk geval zeker - net zoals humor en de nodige ernstige gesprekken over vrouwen, rechten en (on)gelijkheid.
Van de romance was ik in Boek 3 iets minder overtuigd. Het werd me al snel iets te vleselijk (waarmee ik niet bedoel dat ze seks hebben, dit is een braaf boek, we willen geen tere zieltjes afschrikken) en Felicity blijft nogal over Ash' zijn geweldige lichaam doorbomen. Op den duur had ik dat wel een beetje gehad, maar het is gelukkig ook niet zo dat het er de hele tijd in zat. Ash op zich was wel weer een heel aangenaam mannelijk hoofdpersonage. Lezers van de vorige boeken kennen hem natuurlijk al.
Laatste punt, want ik was vergeten het toe te voegen bij m'n bespreking van Boek 2 - A Season for Scandal. Laten we eens even Feelgood Vibes van Unieboek | Het Spectrum eens goed ter orde roepen! Helaba daar, horen jullie mij?! Wat moet dat verdomme voorstellen met die lelijke marges bij de bloementekeningen bij de hoofdstuknummering, hé? Leg me dat maar eens een keer uit, ja! En ondertussen wel overal van die idiote, nutteloze speciale oplages maken met een 'persoonlijke' brief van de auteur 'speciaal voor de Nederlandse en Vlaamse lezers' (lees: zeker en vast dezelfde tekst voor de hele wereld waar alleen de landsnaam is aangepast), bladgoud op snee en liefst nog een glow-in-the-dark-cover ook als het effe kan, ja, dat lukt allemaal wel hé. Maar om over de competentie te beschikken om eens een degelijk, normaal basisproduct af te leveren is weer te veel gevraagd, da's wel duidelijk.

OH MY.
I am truly obsessed with this series. and though life forced me to put down this book every so often, I couldn’t actually think of anything else but this book.
Felicity is so so so magical. her mind is amazing and i loved that this was from her perspective. i did struggle with the fact she wasn’t an agent of the aviary, which meant she might not be in the action, but by the end i was sorely mistaken. Felicity is a force to be reckoned with.
HER JUMPING OUT A CARRIAGE?? with NO training??? HER DISMANTLING A BOMB??? she’s the best.
i loved, as always, the other characters showing up!! Iris and Nick’s wedding?? Marigold and Oliver?? CASSIE! and of course Mrs Finch, Sylla, Maud, Winnie, Izzy, and Max. it was was like avengers assemble!!
i do really hope Laura does a book from Syllas point of view, she’s always such a badass character and i’d do anything to have her pov.
and of course the cover is STUNNING. and the spines match the others!!
and the (slightly) new character of Ash. oh my god. i love pirates and he certainly fits the bill. i love the way him and Felicity chose not to marry, so unconventional for books like these, and a wonderful choice for the protagonist. the way he was so attentive to felicity.
the final one hundred pages had me actually physically shaking, jaw dropping, and disoriented to time and surroundings. genuinely. the bomb being in her dress???? the creativity and unexpectedness of it!
the villain, edward Laing was horrifyingly realistic and creepy. his calmness and efficiency was startling.
I hope Laura comes out with more of these books because i’ll read them all without question!!

I really like the series and remember having so much fun while reading book one and two. However, I couldn't really connect with the main character and the storyline here, and it took me forever to finish. It's not bad, but simply not as captivating as the other books.

Dit derde deel rond The Agency gaat over de zus van Max uit boek 1 - Felicity - die een zelfverklaard wiskundige is en liever wil studeren dan haar debuut maken. Haar denkkracht wordt door de Vinken ingezet tijdens een partij poker met een man die slechts zes jaar lijkt te bestaan en er schimmige zaakjes op nahoudt. En laat het nu nét deze heer zijn die zijn zinnen zet op Felicity - maar met welk doel?
Al voor het lezen snap je allang dat we allemaal als een blok gaan vallen voor gokhal-boss slash piraat Ash met zijn ruige uiterlijk, voor de elite nogal ongemanierde manier van zoenen en zeemanstatoeage.
Wat ik briljant vind aan deze serie zijn de echo's naar bestaande klassiekers in contrast met de zelfstandigheid die elke vrouw in het verhaal dankzij vrouwen om zich heen voor zichzelf verovert en het handjevol mannen dat die zelfstandigheid viert. Bovendien zijn de romans met enorm veel skills en humor geschreven.
Elk deel is afzonderlijk te lezen, maar het leuke is dat personages overlappen. Aan het begin van ieder boek denk je dat het gewoon niet leuker kan dan het vorige, omdat je van een hoofdpersoon bent gaan houden. Maar dan flikt Laura Wood het gewoon weer je verliefd te laten worden op de romance van dat deel.
Ik hoop dat er nog heel veel delen volgen, zodat ik zelf mijn hoop op het bestaan van romantische liefde hiermee nog een beetje in leven kan houden.

4.5🌟 An exhilarating adventure! Following feisty young Felicity (a reluctant debutante and brilliant mathematician) on her path to self-discovery was amazingly fun, hilarious and even touching. Although she doesn't want to disappoint her society mother and the Duke (her brother Max), she simply does not want to follow the rule of the time that she must marry and be a dutiful wife.

I really enjoyed this last book in the series, though I do hope there will be more. Felicity was a fun main character, probably my favorite main character of the three so far. I enjoyed her wit and her strong personality. She was a joy to read about. The romance was a bit less compelling to me, but still enjoyable.
I will definitely keep an eye out for more by this author.

Weer ontzettend genoten van dit boek! Het is vlot geschreven, de personages zijn geweldig en het blijft spannend. Aanrader! Ik wil zeker meer gaan lezen van Laura Wood.

Felicity Vane wil heel graag gaan studeren, maar haar familie is niet overtuigd. Dus dat wil zeggen dat er ook geen financiële mogelijkheden zijn om wiskunde te gaan studeren. Dus besluit ze maar om te infiltreren met haar wiskundige kennis in The Lucky Penny, een gokparadijs, om zo het geld bij elkaar te spronkelen om naar de universiteit te gaan. Ze wordt beschuldigd van vals spelen wat leidt in gerekruteerd worden voor Het Vogelhuis. Zo wordt ze opgeleid tot detective, maar raakt wel verstrikt in een gevaarlijk spel met de nieuwe vijand van het bureau. Ze mag niet verliezen, maar wat ze wel eens kan verliezen is haar hart aan Ash...

De romantiek in dit boek vind ik terug fantastisch om over te lezen. Ash kennen we al een beetje door de voorgaande delen, dus dat is ook een fijn terugzien. 2.5 - This was a disappointing read after I enjoyed the first book so much. Only the mystery plot motivated me to finish. The characters I liked most were Izzy and Max from the first book (another book about them would be fun) and Sylla (she needs her own book asap).
The romance was meh. Not a fan of insta-love, the relationship wasn't fleshed out enough so I couldn't believe they fell in love, and I didn't feel any chemistry between the two characters so I wasn't rooting for them.
At first, I found Felicity interesting but after she dismissed her concerns over her safety two times, I was annoyed, and as the book went on, I realized I didn't care for her much. Her entire personality was being a mathematician.

Is het altijd je droom geweest om deel uit te maken van Totally Spies, but make it Bridgerton? Wel, goed nieuws, want je kan het beleven dankzij deze geweldige serie van Laura Wood!
In dit derde deel volgen we Felicity, wiskundig genie overdag en geniepige kaartenspeler 's nachts. Het is zo verfrissend om een personage als Felicity in een YA te zien. Ze is een sterk, vrouwelijk personage, die precies weet wat ze wilt én hoe ze het moet doen. Ash is dan ook haar perfecte tegenspeler, die haar niet belemmerd, maar niet aanmoedigt in haar plannen.
Ik heb echt zoveel liefde voor deze serie. Laura Wood weet precies hoe de personages neer te zetten, een boeiende en spannende verhaallijn uit te werken en om het om zoveel meer te laten draaien dan liefde.

Ninguno de los dos es ni quiere ser lo que se espera de ellos. Felicity como hermana de un duque debe hacer un buen matrimonio, cuando lo que realmente desea es estudiar matemáticas en la universidad y ser una mujer independiente, y Ash, el tercer hijo de una familia noble mal avenida, tan solo quiere que su padre deje de controlar su vida.
Ambos se encuentran gracias a que él es copropietario de un famoso local de juego y ella siente curiosidad por poner en práctica las teorías matemáticas de probabilidades en los juegos de cartas. Ambos son dos personas libres e independientes, al menos en su interior, y se reconocen como tales el uno en el otro. Sin embargo se ven envueltos en una trama en la que deben enmascarar a un misterioso asesino sin saber cuán complicada va a ser la misión en la que se van a embarcar.
Laura Wood nos vuelve a traer una historia de mujeres plenamente conscientes del injusto mundo que les ha tocado vivir. En este caso, gracias a un personaje con inquietudes científicas, nos abre la puerta al debate sobre el escaso reconocimiento a las mujeres en el terreno académico e intelectual, no solo a las que lograron avances, sino también a las que hicieron equipo, a las mujeres anónimas que pusieron granitos pequeños, pero que juntándolos con los de otras mujeres y hombres formaron grandes montañas.
Una de las cosas más destacables en cuanto a los personajes principales de esta novela es el profundo respeto mutuo. Son capaces de verse el uno al otro claramente y sin artificios, sin el falso velo de “como deberías ser con respecto a tu estatus y condición”. Se miran como iguales y eso me ha gustado muchísimo. Aunque es un libro, como todos los de Laura Wood dirigidos al público esencialmente juvenil, que no tiene ni la sugerencia de ir más allá de unos besos, la tensión romántica entre Ash y Felicity es tan fuerte desde el principio, que a mi juicio, como historia de amor, esta es la mejor de la serie. Y comento esto sin desmerecer a las dos anteriores, que son preciosas, simplemente, aquí Laura Wood lo ha dado absolutamente todo.
El aspecto de misterio y aventura sigue estando a la altura de los libros anteriores, pero quizás aquí pasa a un segundo plano más rotundo, para dar toda la prioridad a los obstáculos que les ponen a los protagonistas en el camino. Los problemas con las expectativas no cumplidas, las decepciones y los sacrificios necesarios para llegar a ser felices sin perder su identidad son el tema central de este libro. Yo no puedo más que recomendároslo, más aún si tenéis hijas o sobrinas entrando en la adolescencia y primera juventud. Ellas necesitan libros como este.

I think this is such a great YA trilogy wich mash up smartly historical fiction, romance, mysteries, actions and secret society all of that intertwined with various feminist themes. Each character has his internal struggles and smash down a lot of misconception about feminist we can have .(which are perfectly understandable by the way,as it has been weaponized against us so much ) Or may i say, might prevent the young readers to have them as the target is teenagers.
Feminists hate men, love and wedding. Well, in the first Izzy,considered ''radical'' feminist, weds a Duke. You might think it is unlikely that a hot privivileged, wealthy white man who works for the government might embrace Izzy's ''radicality'' (let me laugh at that ) without second thoughts, says as a love declaration that he would be ready to fight the law for her, and also completely aknowledges the position of power he might have towards her (mostly financialy speaking ) if they are to be wed.
And That's exactly what my partner pinpoints '' men like that don't exist" (He said that, by himself. See i'm not a misandrist)
To which i drawled '' if i would seek a real man i would not read fiction '' (Now i have just become one i guess)
More seriously, a lot of radical feminist loved their partner dearly at that time. A lot of others , couldn't stand the idea of wedding , with reason, but continued to passionately write to their lovers. Also some embraced the idea of celibacy, and found love in community and sorrority. Some others found all of that at once.
One might disagree and judges some of those choices. To which i would argue that activists are not the solely holder of absolute truth . Each one is fighting in their fashion.
In that regard, I strongly appreciate the point of view laid out in the third novel: Izzy, our first steadfast activist heroin is kind of oblivious to Felicity predicament to not wanting to get married, turning a blind eye from her husband privilege and biais to handle the situation. And while the take about dysfunctional family was as bland as trite (one can't tackle every subject ), i saw this as the reminder that being a feminist does not make you exceptional or above others . Being a Feminist does not make you immune to biais and prejudice.You might be a killjoy but someone else could be yours. And at some point Izzy realise how much she underestimated her stepsister.
But, If everyone of us remains human, being a feminist certainly endows you with a strong sense of justice.Very much liked that this kind of nuance was deal with in this story.
But before diving more into this third installment (getting there I promise. who new it was a circomvoluted subject??) let me take a little detour to the second novel of this trilogy which features Marigold the florist, issued from the working class. We still have a romance of course (always soothing to have hot men allying the cause i might say. Can you beleive the male love interest is forging false jewels so the wives can replace them by the real ones and thus have financial insurrance? He also not have an ounce of fatphobia and smartly twarts any attempts of it toward his beloved. My partner made the same statement as above. He might be the sole misandrist here for all i know.)
What striked me in Marigold's Story, as well as in the first, is the emphasis on everything that is considered frivolous, feminine, and thus lessened. The secret society "the aviary" is even hidden in a haberdashery which is itself commonly belittled even by women themselves for all they have internalised since their upbringing.
Fashion and Flowers become a weapon and even a financial means as Marigold is a strong bussiness women using her passions and keen mind to acheive independancy.
Even if in the end , what delights Marigold the most is the sparks of joy her flowery choice trigger to other people, the flicker of emotion. It is a language in itself used to express a versatile panel of feelings. indeed, is everything of value only if it's pecuniary one way or another? something to be conquered or vanquished ?
Feminism prevent you to be feminine, to cook for your husband i often hear. I am sorry, if anything, it allows you to have choices. To endow yourself with special lenses so pink, make up and craftbooking might not be considered as something to be ashamed of anymore.
And speaking of choice, here comes the third installement of this trilogy with Felicity Vane who do not want to be married but rather becomes a mathematician and set up an example for women who aspire to have an education (gosh what an ambitious one !)
I might say this is pairing very well with Virginia woolf's "A room of ones own" i'm currently reading. Here we have a profile completely different from the other two, with a plot,even if i sometimes thought it was trying to do too much at once, which was wrapping itself up neatly while staying faithful to the serie's DNA. Once again, we have everything we could hope for in an action packed mystrery with all the needed pedagogy widely sprinkled all along.
The first time felicity entered the math lecture class at cambridge i swear i was thrown back to my first algorithmic one (not at cambridge but a shabby university in the countryside but still). Same thrill, but also same disappointment toward the pervaded misogyny my sole presence aroused.
Might have particularly related to this character, though i couldn't help but find her unrealistic in her unwavering beliefs. But i suppose this is why this is a YA book and not an adult one.
Lastly, i have to say i strongly appreciate that Felicity stands up for her desires all along and is not in the least ashamed of them, nor demure.
Feminists are bitter, they hate sex. Well if it pleases you to think so. In the meantime, let's move on.

Was für ein grandioser dritter Band. Ich mochte schon die ersten beiden Bände sehr, aber dieser Teil übertrifft es nochmals. Ich habe es fast in einem Rutsch durchgelesen, weil es einfach so gut ist. Die Protagonistin Felicity bringt erfrischend neuen Wind in die High Society des viktorianischen Londons. Sie ist unheimlich klug und weiß auch, wie sie ihren Verstand nutzen muss, um den Skandal letztlich aufzudecken. Ich liebe das Finkennest und bin sehr froh, dass alle Protagonisten der Vorgänger auch hier eine tragende Rolle einnehmen ohne im Vordergrund zu stehen. Die Handlung ist für mich das perfekte Gleichgewicht aus Cosy Crime und Romance. Es ist herrlich unterhaltsam, lustig und spannend. Auch die Interaktionen von Felicity mit ihrem Love Interest Ash haben mir sehr gefallen. Ich hoffe es kommt noch mehr aus dem Finkennest..vielleicht ja zu Sylla.

A great conclusion to this series! I loved the characters in this book and the fast-paced plot was compelling and fun.
It's full of strong, powerhouse women who right wrongs for other women in society, and say 'fuck you' to the system in 1800's London. It has so much heart and humour, and each character is unique but are so inspiring and badass.
I cannot recommend this series enough ❤️
