A large anthology of cozy travel mysteries. Most are pretty average and typical plots. It is an excellent way to discover new characters and authors.
Goodreads does not have many of these books listed individually to include on my 2025 Book Challenge. Most are books, not novellas or short stories
Margaritas and Murder Michele Pariza Wacek Mexico, Los Cabos 1993, Charlie wins a trip and goes alone when her travel friend falls ill. She finds herself a suspect (of course) when she discovers a body (of course). Apparently, in 1993, one only needed a license. As she's a suspect, it is confiscated by Mexican police. Her policeman friend flies in to help her solve the murder. It makes the Mexican police look dumb. It was all too trope for me. Apparently, in previous books, she sells tea.... **
Plot Todd-EE Patti Larsen TWO friends experienced in law enforcement decide to go on a Glamping river raft trip. It was supposed to be a calm, relaxing meandering trip down Florida's Keys. Gee, what COULD go wrong? Once again, there are too many cliques with spoiled bride to be, her simping bridpal party, the rampant drinking, and murder. Yet, it worked with an interesting twist of a locked room mystery and Agatha Christie reveal. I also liked the idea of individual fancy rafts connecting to a group dining and entertainment raft and the dangers that entailed. ****
Leis Lies and Lethal Force Carolyn Dean Amanda and Christy are in Kauai, Hawaii, at a resort. From conversations and descriptions, it's obvious this is from a series, Amanda has encountered many mysteries. They are both busy Mom's and wives, and of course, things go wrong. The snooping and questioning just felt silly. It was irritating that there was little or no description about the island.**
Aspic and Old Lace Jayne Morrow This reader feels like she's missed something regarding this series. It begins and ends with 2 friends and one of them introducing her new manuscript. Which is the actual story. Liz is one of several characters who are Victorian history experts. Despite the trope of poisoned aspic, this time it works. There are numerous suspects and many red herrings to keep the intrigue up. ****.
Death at Thistle Inn Kitty Kildare Another locked room, Agatha Christie type plot. This time, the main character and her friend are trapped in a remote Scottish castle during a blizzard. It is supposed to be a historical 1920s mystery. It isn't very obvious with the exception of a Great War mention. The protagonist is unconventional with knowledge of death and dead bodies. She was not that interesting. It just did not feel very original or creative. **
Whodunit at the Winery Carly Winter According to minor references within the storyline, its apparent this story is part if a series. Except, Sam and Jordan are vacationing by exploring the countryside and wineries. It was an enjoyable read, but it's unlikely I will be reading the series. Sam had a former life she wanted to keep as secret as possible. Unfortunately, she is recognized. The couple discovered that not everyone is friendly at the local celebrity winery. And more than one person wanted the victim deaf. It is an interesting and fun read. ***
Port of No Return Wendy Neugent Apparently, there is a series with the main sleuth is an cruise ship entertainer with a very cool parrot. In this storyline, she is not the onlyones being detectives. Sadly, there was no mystery. It was obvious who was going to die. It was obvious what crimes were being committed. *
Midnight Flowerpot Fiasco Mona Marple This storyline actually got interesting. I only wish some of the descriptions were developed deeper, and the ending was rushed and felt unfinished. Another future book? The main characters are part of a Christmasy series. But, currently, on a seaside vacation where an unpopular artist is in danger.
Betrayed at Belize Laina Turner Safly, there is little or no interesting descriptions of Belize. Our protagonist wins an exclusive resort trip that includes an actual 24/7 butler. They both start looking into a mysterious murder. Despite it being a bit silly, it was a great story. ****
Witch napped BG Wood. There is a touch of paranormal in this book. Our protagonist is accompanying her dear friend to an author reading event. It is a paranormal romance novelist genre that she barely tolerates. Lots of weird or suspicious stuff happens, and she is asked to investigate. It was a very good storyline with possible foreshadowing of a new plot line in the series. ****
Cursed Cousins Joanne Keder This felt like a prequel to a cryptic new mystery series. Although it was based in Norway, it didn't feel like the author knew Norway. There are obviously going to be more books. There was little or no intrigue with the exception of heavy foreshadowing of questions needing answers. **
