This is Will's book, and though it can be read as a stand alone, you will enjoy this so much more when you read book 1 and 2 in this series first. That's where you'll meet Will, Easton's baby boy, growing up to be Wyatt's son as well. He's this boy with his heart in the right place - he's sweet and caring, and tries to do good. That also means he got into trouble more than once, letting his fists speak when someone made a homophobic remark, not to defend himself, but to stand up for the victim the slurs were directed to.
When he's finally reached the age to go to college, he leaves for San Francisco, and he finds Tru to be his roommate. They fast become the best of friends, and even though they are both interested in other guys, they never saw themselves taking that road together. They share everything, Will is also very protective of the sweet Tru, whose parent's denied him the moment they found out about his sexuality. He also identifies as asexual, and even though it's something I'm not familiar with, it feels like the author did a great job portraying him. His disinterest in sex felt real - he's all in for the romance and the cuddles and the sweetness of just being together, but sex is not something he's interested in.
When Summer comes and Will takes Tru home to Plum Valley (and what a delight it was to revisit that small town in the Texas hills again!), they slowly discover their feelings toward each other have somewhat changed. There's a strong bond between them, and their friendship has turned into something more, but it's fragile and new and they have to navigate carefully through the things that have a potential to undermine what they have found.
That's where Cooper comes in. Will and Tru meet him as the new ranch help and they immediately like him. There's a physical attraction between Cooper and Will too, and Cooper, with his beautiful smiles and his easy going character, attracts Tru's attention as well.
I don't want to spoil too much about how this relationship develops, but it was beautiful to see it grow, to see how they make it work. I loved how natural it felt, and how they fit so well. From the moment they met, it felt like meant to be. They just belong and it was the sweetest, most lovely thing to watch.
I really love this series - it's become one of my favorites this year and I'm curiously waiting for book 4!
I kindly received an ARC from the author and this is my honest, voluntary review
