Dan Jurgens is an American comic book writer and artist. He is known for his work on the DC comic book storyline "The Death of Superman" and for creating characters such as Doomsday, Hank Henshaw, and Booster Gold. Jurgens had a lengthy run on the Superman comic books including The Adventures of Superman, Superman vol. 2 and Action Comics. At Marvel, Jurgens worked on series such as Captain America, The Sensational Spider-Man and was the writer on Thor for six years. He also had a brief run as writer and artist on Solar for Valiant Comics in 1995.
Dan Jurgens is my favourite comic writer. Few have contributed more to lore or written better Superman stories than Jurgens. So I thought this collection was fantastic.
Now that’s some good Superman reading. It has all you could want from a Superman book, some classic villains and some new, a black suit, a beautiful blue suit, bearded Superman, classic daily planet shenanigans, and the culmination of pre-52 & new-52 supes. The artwork here is just downright beautiful, some of these panels here are framed poster worthy. The fact that this starts from the actual beginning, meaning during convergence and the actual origin of Jon plus the time spent by OG supes during the New 52 era really brings this book up another level as it gives the perfect set up for this Rebirth story. Absolutely cannot wait for volume 2. You can often tell when a book is good when you catch yourself reading past where you said you’d stop and constantly think about coming to pick it back up for just one more story and that’s what happened here.

This collects allt he missing pieces that I wished I would have read in the first place before I picked up the Dan Jurgens Action OCmics run in the previous DC Rebirth Deluxe Editions.
It feels so much more complete now and the origin story of Jonathan Kent is one of the best since Damian Wayne.
