Some secrets are worth killing for.

Julia left London years ago, but now she's back - and so are the ghosts of her past. Angel Glover was her childhood best friend until the day everything changed.

Now Angel is dead, and Julia is certain it wasn't just some tragic accident.

Determined to uncover the truth, she starts asking questions. But the Mansfield estate hasn't changed. The same faces are there - Tom, Lindsey, Pauline, Frankie - the ones she and Angel used to roll with. And they know more than they're letting on.

The deeper Julia digs, the more the warnings come. Even Inspector Vyse tells her to tread carefully. But Julia's not going anywhere. She owes Angel that much.

And on these streets, loyalty is a dangerous thing - because some secrets are worth killing for...

Blurbed as a ‘new gangland crime novel’ but tbh there is no ‘gangland’ but plenty of crime

The book starts with Angel celebrating her birthday…..she thinks she is being led to a surprise birthday treat….she is being led somewhere but nothing is further fron the truth that it’s a treat

We then meet Julia who is back in London and via a chance meeting learns about what has befallen Angel and decides to go back to her ‘area’ and meet up with her long time friends ( and enemies ) once she does she realises there are many secrets being kept from her and as she investigates she finds out her and others lives are in danger, she is determined though to find out who is behind it all……whatever the cost

A good well paced ‘old friends re meeting’ drama with plenty of side stories and interpersonal carryings on to be involved with as a reader

Always enjoy this authors books and this is a good solid read that gave you time to get to know everyone and to make your mind up who was true and who was false while keeping the tension going

Julie returns to the Mansfield Estate in London after many years away and discovers that her once-best friend, Angel Glover, is dead. Struggling to come to terms with the fact that it was an accident, she begins to investigate her old friends. However, they seem to have closed ranks and are making it difficult for her to uncover the truth about what happened.

While this book is classified as a crime novel, I found it lacking in actual criminal activity. Instead, it focuses heavily on lies, secrets, and deceit. The characters are well-developed, allowing readers to engage with them. However, despite Roberta's usual talent for storytelling, this book is not my favorite.
